Eye Exam :: Swelling In The Optic Nerves And High Pressure Cerebral Fluid

A $60 eye exam revealed swelling in the optic nerves that got me a referral an eye specialist, the eye specialist then told me I most likely have high pressure cerebral fluid that is causing the swelling and need a CAT scan to look for brain tumors, no brain tumors were found ....... but the cerebral fluid must be drained to prevent continuous swelling of the optic nerves that will cause separation & blindness.

The CAT scan cost me $1,000

The cerebral fluid draining cost me $1,700

The cerebral fluid draining required a large needle to puncture through the lumbar area into my lower spinal cords, as the lumbar area does not have 1 solid nerve as the upper portion, it is basically like spaghetti so there is NO risk of paralysis when done by professionals with a live X-ray machine to line up the needle between vertebra for safe insertion.

I don't know what measurement scale they used, but the pressure reading was above 40+. They told me normal pressure should be between 8 and 12.

They then drained the pressure to about 18

As I was walking out of the hospital, I had never in my life had such extreme mental clarity and excellent vision.

Shortly afterwards, I noticed that my normal clumsiness was gone that I had dealt with all my life.

Reading
Math
Memory
Physical agility
Strength
Desire
Aggressiveness
too many to list

As I know all my life I was mentally slower than average until that procedure. It has been 1 1/2 years since then, and starting 2 months ago I noticed diminished capacity slowly creeping up as before, as I probably need the procedure done again and don't have the money to do it.I realized that if this high cerebral pressure would have been detected as a child, I could have gotten a better education if it had been corrected.

Achilles Tendon Surgery Tomorrow

Ruptured my AT two weeks ago playing squash. All the usual symptoms although not as painful as my previous calf tear - although now I'm starting to realise it's much more serious. And not a quick return to sport.

I'm in for surgery tomorrow morning and having read loads over the last fortnight, still not sure what the immediate post op advice is. It seems everyone has a slightly different experience.

I'm a self employed graphic designer and eager to know when I can sit at a desk again and do some work to keep the wheels turning.

Should I be lying down with foot elevated above heart for first few days or much longer?

Disc Prolapse :: Discectomy Tomorrow - What To Expect?

I have my discectomy booked and I go in tomorrow morning, I met the surgeon yesterday he seems really positive and he seems to have a good reputation, he said I won't need a laminectomy I thought everyone needed that... Don't they? Is he just trying to make me feel better! I was asking him about mega blood loss, spinal fluid leaks, staples and he was a bit like what have you been reading! I am so scared, he said they used to do a laminectomy but now they don't and I don't get a micro discectomy as they have sufficient lighting only difference is a microscope!

Pregnancy :: High TSH During 1st Trimester

Currently I'm 31 weeks pregnant.

I'm a hypothyroid patient since past 2 years and was on medication Thyroxine 50 mcg with regular GP.

However after I became pregnant and was tested for thyroid result were TSH 19 at week 7(thyroxin 100 mcg) and then TSH 12 at week 11 (thyroxine 125 mcg) adjusted by OB.

Thereafter I started referring to an endocrinologist who put me on thyronorm 150 mcg and my TSH was down to 2 at week 15. Subsequently monthly tests are showing normal range with regular follow-up and dosage adjustments.

From what I have been reading, I see that it should have been normalised in the first trimester itself as it affect's the baby's development. Can you please let me know if there's some tests that can be carried out asap (or new-born screenings) to know if baby has been negatively affected by this ? We want to ensure best possible care for baby once she is born so that it does not cause issues in later life.

(Age 18-24) Pregnancy :: High Protein In Urine

Pregnant with my 5th baby and have had pretty crappy morning sickness I'm currently 16 weeks and since my first apt At maybe 7 weeks I've been showing a lot of protein in my urine, the first time it was 2+ and the the pat two times it was 3+ the last one was just today at my drs. My Dr is concerned because my actual urine analysis showed no signs of infections or illness at all besides this ton of protein always in my urine. She says its way to early for pre e and isn't really sure what's wrong so she is having my kidney function checked, she's is always checking all my sugars because I keep continually whiting out to the point of almost fainting every time I stand up! I've never experienced anything like this in any of my other children or even my m/c has anyone experienced very high urine protein levels and whiteouts and actually get a diagnosis? I am still pretty sick puking wise but nothing as bad as when I couldn't even keep down water at first .. Ok well now I'm rambling lol so any info or insight would be greatly appreciated im sort of freaking out as I don't even know what to expect. Does this mean I'm way more likely to get pre e once I hit my third trimester? Ugh I hate the unknown.

Pregnancy :: Stretching Your Hands Up High - Bad?

Is it true that stretching up high (like stretching your hands up high, like reaching for something that high) is bad? I'm hearing all these stories is bad because it can tangle the baby's umbilical cord around his neck. Is this true? Or is it just a old wive?

Because I stretch sometimes waking up & stretch up high to get something or turn off my light?.

Am I Pregnant? Have Fluid In My Uterus

My doctor had me get a sonogram because she thought I may have endometriosis. While this wasn't true, I do have fluid in my uterus, and on top of that, my thyroid levels have dropped just over the past month. I think I may be pregnant, and my doctor seems to agree with me, but I'm not sure. I'm only nineteen. Are there any other reasons this stuff is happening or could it be that I'm pregnant?
