Switching From Zetia To Zocor

Aug 3, 2014

I was prescribed Zetia after my regular physical showed I have borderline high cholesterol and Zetia was supposed to bring it back down to normal range. However, that did not happen at all, in fact during the time I was on Zetia I had either the same cholesterol results or even an increase.

Now my physician wants to switch me to statin medication Zocor and to be honest I’m reluctant to start taking it mainly because all the experiences and warnings about statin side effects. Would an increased dose of Zetia be enough to prevent my physician from switching me to Zocor?

Difference Between Zocor And Zetia?

I’ve had problems with high cholesterol for years, but it wasn’t causing me any major issues until recently when I had to be hospitalized because one of my arteries was almost completely clogged. I’m waiting for the stent placement surgery and in the meantime I was given two medications that are supposed to lower my cholesterol: Zocor and Zetia.

Ever since I started taking them I feel more tired than usual and the nurse said that is relatively common side effect from Zocor, but I’m not really sure what is the difference between Zocor and Zetia and do i need both of them to lower my cholesterol?

Zocor And Zetia Comparison

I’m 52 year old male and I’ve considered myself to be pretty much healthy overall, never really needed to see my physician, but I had to get a general check up for work and the bloodwork showed my bad cholesterol levels were in high range. I was immediately given prescription for Zocor (generic simvastatin)

Despite feeling like I had a worst flu ever, with bone and muscle aches for the few months I was on Zocor, my cholesterol went down enough for me not to have to take Zocor anymore. But, my doctor is prescribing me different cholesterol lowering medication, Zetia and will it cause the same side effects as Zocor?

Zocor And Zetia Together? Headaches, Constant Tiredness

I’ve been on Zocor (generic simvastatin) for years now and my cardiologist finally thinks it’s OK to lower my dosage from 80 mg to 60 and then hopefully 40 mg of Zocor. He probably wouldn’t have started tapering me down if it wasn’t for pretty bad side effects I was having from Zocor, including headaches, constant tiredness and pretty much feeling worn down for more than two years.

But, together with lowering my Zocor, he also added Zetia as another medication for lowering cholesterol and I’m wondering is it safe to take it at the same time with Zocor, given all the side effects I have?

Zetia And Zocor For High Cholesterol - Side Effects?

I was prescribed Zocor for high cholesterol I have for years. Before Zocor I was on Tricor and it didn’t help to lower my cholesterol at all, so my cardiologist switched me to statin because I was under a very realistic risk of having a heart attack. My cholesterol numbers did went a bit down, but it seems like they haven't gone down enough since at my last checkup my cardiologist added Zetia to my treatment with Zocor and Lisinopril I have to take for hypertension.

What worries me though is will Zetia make Zocor side effects worse and is this a good choice when there are other statin medications out there?

Zocor (simvastatin) Causes Impotence?

I’m male, 42 years old and I’ve been having genetic problem with high levels of bad, LDL high cholesterol, in ranges between 250-270 over period of two years. The first statin medication I was prescribed was Crestor. It took me almost a year to convince my doctor that muscle and joint pain I’m experiencing because of Crestor are ruining my life completely.

So he took me off statins for a short period, just three months, and together with dietary changes, my LDL cholesterol levels were around 250. I was having a completely normal and healthy sex life. Then my doctor decided my levels are still too high and that I need another statin - Zocor  (simvastatin) and for the past six months I’ve been on Zocor, I’ve been having extreme erectile dysfunction.

Zocor Causing Me To Get Tired?

Even though I was aware of potential side effects statin medications might cause, mainly them causing muscle and joint pain, I had little choice but to start taking Zocor after I had heart attack. At that point, my bad cholesterol levels were through the roof and it’s still uncertain if I’ll have to have coronary artery stents placed or not.

Ever since I started Zocor I feel more tired than I ever was in my life. I have a feeling I could sleep all day, with barely any motivation to do anything. Could this tiredness be another side effect of statins?

Hair Loss On Zocor

I’m female, 52 and due to my high cholesterol levels and family history of coronary disease, my physician had me start taking Zocor (simvastatin). I’ve been on this medication for almost six months now and from the last month I’ve been starting to lose more and more hair. When I asked my doctor is Zocor causing this, he completely denied that was possible and instead sent me to various hormonal tests. They all were in normal ranges.

After this I decided to take the matter into my own hands and continue with healthy diet, exercise and no Zocor (but I do use red rice supplement instead) and finally my hair is not falling off any more.

Weight Gain Caused By Zocor?

after I had TIA stroke, or mini-stroke 3 years ago I’ve been on Plavix, together with Zocor (I’m taking the generic simvastatin since last year). Even though I’ve completely changed my eating habits and I try to be as active as possible, I seem to be gaining weight constantly. I’m now some 20 lbs heavier compared to when I had the stroke.

Is it possible that Zocor is contributing to my weight gain? And if that’s the case what can I do about it?

Zocor Causing Pain Or Burning During Urination?

My mom, now 65 years old, started experiencing problems with frequent urination and pain during urination. At first she thought it was just UTI and her doctor gave her antibiotics. However, it’s been 3 weeks after she finished her antibiotics and she still says she has problems with urination.
The only other medication she is taking for high cholesterol is Zocor and she’s been on it for years now, but is it possible that Zocor is causing my mom’s issues?

Switching Between Microgynon And Cerazette

So basically I was on microgynon for about 3 years before switching to cerazette as I told the doctors I had headaches from microgynon as I didn't want to have periods anymore (stupid I know). So now I have been on cerazette for about 6 months my bleeding is extremely light however can come at any time. Sometimes for weeks of light bleeding. I now want to swap back to microgynon as I am going on holiday in November and want to ensure I am not bleeding whilst I am there. I am worried that If I switch back I could potentially bleed for a long period of time. My doctor told me to double up on cerazette but I have had other symptoms such as vaginal dryness which is affecting my sex life. If I switch back to microgynon will I bleed for ages or will it just be for a week, I never had problems with this pills before.

Switching From Lipitor To Simvastatin?

I’ve been on Lipitor for over a year now and I feel like like I’ve been putting up with side effects of this medication for far too long. I’ve not been having muscle aches, but I feel like I’m having flu for this whole year I’m on the Lipitor.

My doctor says that as far as statin medication go, Lipitor is one with least side effects and its more potent than simvastatin, but I was on simvastatin before and it didn’t feel as bad as Lipitor does. I guess I can insist that my doctor puts me back on simvastatin, but still, I’m wondering will it be as effective in controlling my cholesterol?

Switching From Atenolol To Propranolol

I'm changing from Atenolol to propranolol having had a bit of a reaction to atenolol ( my dosage was increased and I suddenly got tinnitus and vertigo) after 18 months. Has anyone else had to do this? It took me a while to get used to the Atenolol, the thought of going through that again is a bit worrying. Ive read about the side effects ( I suppose I shouldn't have) but I want to start taking them now to get rid of this blooming awful reaction...

Uterus Switching From Retroverted To Anteverted

I had a scan in September last year and I had a retroverted uterus. Does it sound right that another scan I had in April showed I had a anteverted uterus. Then I just had another scan done in June and I now have a retroverted uterus again. Does this sound normal. I might add that I had cysts removed early in January of this year. Could the doctors have fixed my uterus and made in anteverted and then it went back to retroverted?

How difficult/easy to switch from lantus to tresiba. My dose of lantus is 10 units in the am and 7 units of lantus in the evening and my doctor wants to switch me to one dose daily of 14 units of tresiba. My doctor says it can take up to 3 days for tresiba to stabilize my BG. I'm a little worried about this and my Lantus is about to run out which means I guess I have to buy tresiba.

Sertraline :: Switching From Prozac To Zoloft

I've been on Prozac about a week and a half and it isn't agreeing with me. My anxiety is the worse at ever been and I can't leave the house. My doctor wants to switch me to Zoloft. The main reason her and I agreed to try Prozac first was because I'm terrified of gaining weight. I'm 23 and already have a major weight issue. I took lexapro as a teen and gained tons of weight. So, I am wondering, does anyone notice any significant weight changes on Zoloft? Also, how do people find Zoloft to help with anxiety?

Switching From Prozac To Mirtazapine - What To Expect?

I have been signed off work for the last 6 months with depression.  I was prescribed Prozac, the dose of which was doubled after a few weeks, but I didn't find it helped with my anxiety.

A trip to Morrisons puts me in panic mode, I recently had to renew my passport at the Post Office and was sick on the way home as it caused me so much distress.

I stopped taking the Prozac cold turkey a few weeks ago and didn't have any problems.  I didn't feel and better or any worse.

I have now been prescribed 30mg Mirtazapine - my first tablet will be this evening.  However, I have read bad things about the side affects, I don't want to put on weight or feel any more down and sleepy than I already do.

Are there any positives to this medication - surely there must be!
