I have been on venlafaxine 225 for 4 years now and I am currently coming of it slowly every month down by 37.5mg, I am now on 75 mg and feeling so awful with all the normal symptoms.
Can anyone advise me as to which antidepressant to go on next as unfortunately I can not be without one and can I start taking it alongside the 37.5 which I am about to go on.
I was thinking of trying Citalopram which my son is on.
My doc is switching me from escitalopram to venlafaxine.
View 3 RepliesI didn't do well on cymbalta (duloxetine). Initially, I started to feel better, but after a couple of months I started to feel depressed again. I also gained weight.
When I started to withdraw from cymbalta, my weight started to creep up even more. I've always been 7 st, and now I'm 8 st and 5 lbs.
My Psychiatrist wants to start me on venlafaxine, but I'm so worried that I'm going to end up gaining more weight. In the past, I've been on Citalopram and Fluoxetine. None of those worked for me, that's why my Psychiatrist tried the SNRI.
I feel like a complete failure, and am believing I'm unhelpable. Weight gain is a big issue for me, I don't like not being in control.
Told him that after 12 weeks, the Citalopram, even at 40mg per day is not working. :blue: He's told me to reduce my dosage of Citalopram for a week and then start taking Mirtazapine which he says should help with my sleeping also.
Wants to see me in a fortnight to check side effects and signed me off another month.
Has anyone switched from citalopram to another antidepressant? If so would you be kind enough to tell me which one and is it working better than cit.
View 6 RepliesI have been taking venlafaxine for 4 weeks now 2 weeks at 37.5 with 10mg of citalopram and the last 2 weeks at 75mg a day on its own the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing more anxiety and feel tense all the time I'm more snappy with my kids too will this pass as Iv changed on to this medication as citalopram wasn't helping me any with anxiety and low mood. I just want to be me again I keep having racing thoughts which had all stopped.

Injuries..fractured acetebulum and broken left pelvis plus 3 fractured ribs and puctured lung. Now 11yrs later im 34yr old mother of of 1, 6yr old son a wife... On ssi since 09... I have been on 10mg methadone bid for about 2months and much higher doses in the past.now my pm is switching me to opana er 7.5 bid. At my request. Just needed a change...methadone was making me feel exhausted and not helping my pain as it usrd to. So i tried the butrans patch a few months ago and it went horrible...after 7days without methadone and 3days with butrans patch on i had major withdraw symptom and i started to have major difficulties breathing. So to no prevail i went back to the beast (methadone)up till now... Now im on my second day of opana er7,5 bid with vicoden 5mg tid for break thru. Im not sure what to expect...im very confident in my decision in swithing meds but...i just started feeling slight withdraw effects n having insomnia...how long will this last...has anyone been on methadone for 10+yrs and swithed to a pain med that significantly helped...thank you for reading. View 4 RepliesI have read a lot of entries about this drug, and I do agree with many that at first it did its job. To pout you in the picture I have been on 225 mg for 25 years now and like some have been very apprehensive about stopping due to extreme withdrawal.
Yes some may criticise my deciding to go cold turkey, but I do feel that venlafaxine is like any addictive drug with one exception, it is fear of withdrawal that stops many from even trying. I am now on my 5th day and yes the symptoms are shocking in more ways than one (srry bout pun). My reason to decide is simple.. Do I need venlafaxine anymore? Simple answer No! I just got to the comfort and routine of taking it every day. Don't get me wrong cold turkey is not necessarily the right way unless you have an iron constitution, and willpower. I am no expert so please do not take all I say as gospel.
Whilst the withdrawal is bad at the moment, I have noticed a clarity in my mind growing as time goes by, it almost as if I a getting part of myself back and it is no longer negative or suicidal as of many years ago that I lost to venlafaxine (My faith is a big part of this too.).
So what is happening this early in cold turkey? Brain zaps like mad I also have slight nausea, I have decided to consult my GP to request some anti withdrawal medicine I am aware that this prob will not stop the zaps etc but poss offer a cushion. Maybe I am stubborn but I will not do the weaning off method, I have stopped illegal drugs and alcohol without weaning off, and even though venlafaxine is legal, for myself would be like having dope or a drink to solve the problems, but in fact I consider doing that a step backwards. I would be very interested in any one especially who did cold turkey to share what they found out with me, and of course any other comments you may have.
As it says Venlafaxine for 4 years '' not good '' been reducing to one a day for a week '' not to bad '' know second week 37mg once a day ; and so it starts '' bad head'' sickness ''and every thing else that comes with coming of this drug '' its bad '' crying all the time god help me please i think i will go mad ''been to Dr and this is what they want to do to help ''

View 1 RepliesI've been on it for years and it's been brilliant. I was tired all the time and it gave me new energy.
The downside is that if you miss a couple of doses the withdrawal side-effects are quite horrendous. Venlafaxine XL (time released ones) are gentler with the side effects than the ordinary ones.
They've definitely worked for me.
I gave up my job because I was so stressed and such an emotional wreck. I 've gone back to uni to do another course, I have tasks to complete and I just don't feel motivated to do anything at all. I m doing work experience and I don't care anymore. I m On list to see therapist at the end of month. I'm usually active person and maybe it's the anxiety that kept me going but all I do now Is not to do anything at all I lay about and sleep I postpone everything I need to do is this normal? I have no energy or drive, has anyone else experienced this?
View 2 RepliesI have had a really tough year, and was prescribed citalopram 12 weeks ago, started on 10mg for 2 weeks then 20mg ever since. I haven't been feeling any better, I have been going through a break up so its hard to know what's heartbreak and what's depression but the only thing that's seemed to be improving is anxiety which was taking over my life.
I still wake up most days not wanting to move, feeling hopeless and like I don't want to be here (I wouldn't physically hurt myself) and non stop crying and fear of the future and low self esteem. I used to be so confident and outgoing and happy, my world has crashed in the last year and recently I spoke to my doctor who has raised the dose to 40mg which I have now been taking for 3 days. I feel absolutely worse and again not sure if it's circumstantial. I feel embarrassed In Front of my friends and family as one minute I'll be crying and struggling to breath having a panic attack and the next I'll be laughing and smiling. Has anyone else suffered in the same way? I am hoping that this dosage is what I need but I'm just having teething problems. Right now though I feel very scared and worried it's not going to do the trick if I feel like this.
So basically I was on microgynon for about 3 years before switching to cerazette as I told the doctors I had headaches from microgynon as I didn't want to have periods anymore (stupid I know). So now I have been on cerazette for about 6 months my bleeding is extremely light however can come at any time. Sometimes for weeks of light bleeding. I now want to swap back to microgynon as I am going on holiday in November and want to ensure I am not bleeding whilst I am there. I am worried that If I switch back I could potentially bleed for a long period of time. My doctor told me to double up on cerazette but I have had other symptoms such as vaginal dryness which is affecting my sex life. If I switch back to microgynon will I bleed for ages or will it just be for a week, I never had problems with this pills before.
View 1 RepliesI’ve been on Lipitor for over a year now and I feel like like I’ve been putting up with side effects of this medication for far too long. I’ve not been having muscle aches, but I feel like I’m having flu for this whole year I’m on the Lipitor.
My doctor says that as far as statin medication go, Lipitor is one with least side effects and its more potent than simvastatin, but I was on simvastatin before and it didn’t feel as bad as Lipitor does. I guess I can insist that my doctor puts me back on simvastatin, but still, I’m wondering will it be as effective in controlling my cholesterol?
I'm changing from Atenolol to propranolol having had a bit of a reaction to atenolol ( my dosage was increased and I suddenly got tinnitus and vertigo) after 18 months. Has anyone else had to do this? It took me a while to get used to the Atenolol, the thought of going through that again is a bit worrying. Ive read about the side effects ( I suppose I shouldn't have) but I want to start taking them now to get rid of this blooming awful reaction...
View 1 RepliesI was prescribed Zetia after my regular physical showed I have borderline high cholesterol and Zetia was supposed to bring it back down to normal range. However, that did not happen at all, in fact during the time I was on Zetia I had either the same cholesterol results or even an increase.
Now my physician wants to switch me to statin medication Zocor and to be honest I’m reluctant to start taking it mainly because all the experiences and warnings about statin side effects. Would an increased dose of Zetia be enough to prevent my physician from switching me to Zocor?
I had a scan in September last year and I had a retroverted uterus. Does it sound right that another scan I had in April showed I had a anteverted uterus. Then I just had another scan done in June and I now have a retroverted uterus again. Does this sound normal. I might add that I had cysts removed early in January of this year. Could the doctors have fixed my uterus and made in anteverted and then it went back to retroverted?
