ENT :: Laser Tonsillectomy - My Experience
I would like to share my experience with the laser tonsil reduction procedure.
I am 32 years old with small tonsils with crypts. I have been suffering from constant sore throat, BB, tonsil stones, fever since the past three years.
I discarded the traditional tonsillectomy option as I have heard that its very painful in adults with increased risk of postoperative bleeding and the recovery takes 2 weeks to sometimes a month. Instead I opted for laser aided tonsil reduction.
My ENT gave me a prompt appointment and I had the procedure done yesterday. After the anaesthetic spray to the back of my throat that somewhat stinged, the ENT fired around 3 rounds of laser to each of my tonsils.Even though the anaesthetic had numbed my throat, there was a burning pain when the laser went deeper.
The whole procedure was completed in 15 minutes and the ENT informed me that he has reduced both my tonsils as much as possible. The tonsillar area looked black and charred. I had slight difficulty swallowing but it was not that bad as expected.
I returned home in the evening and gargled with difflam mouthwash and took one painkiller around 7 pm when the pain built up. Still a 2 out of a scale of 10.
Day 1 (today): Woke up this morning, feeling much better. My throat has started sloughing and I can see white coating where it was lasered. Pain 2 out of 10. Gargled again but didn't need to take a painkiller.
I have a funny taste in the back of the mouth and the gargle is not helping.
Off to have some lentil soup and veggies for lunch. I have 6 days of sick leave from work to recover, so drinking lots of liquids and mashed food & soup to get well soon.
Note: I have read that partial tonsil reduction may not solve the problems completely. But I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I am not one of the rare cases who has to go for a complete tonsillectomy after all this. I have a follow up appointment with the ENT a month later. wish me good luck.
Tonsillectomy Recently And Now Sore Throat - Pain Killer?
I'm on the start of day 5 now after my tonsillectomy and in the worst pain imaginable, I was aware the procedure would be painful but nothing like this did I ever imagine, the mornings we the worst, waking from my sleep with no pain resistance at 4am is horrible.
I would really like someone to help me make a plan so I can manage my pain relief better so I don't need to be in so much agony,il list below the medicine I have and the daily dosage told to take:
Paracetamol 500mg take 2 upto 4 times a day
diclofenac/volterol 50mg take 1 upto 3 times a day
codeine 30mg take 1 or 2 upto 4 times a day ....
HIV? White Spot On Tonsil
I had an unprotected sex four months later I tested negative.... being last month.... but now I notice white spot on my left tonsil, Am worried if it relate to HIV....

Tonsil Cyst :: Flesh Coloured Raised Oval Shaped Lump?
9 months ago I saw a small flesh coloured raised oval shaped lump on my right tonsil, went doctors and was told nothing to worry about. Had a few sore throats since then (which I'm prone to), the dentist's last week was told bad decay in right lower molar, asked dentist to check lump as it was still there, again told nothing to worry about. Got home and felt throat a little sore, had a look and noticed the area next to the lump was also swollen a bit, freaked out, back to doctors who now referred to ENT, claiming he couldn't see lump 9 months ago while asking if I'd lost appetite/weight. Anyway then both my kids also came down with sore throat/virus thing, so I thought maybe the second swelling was just tonsillitis... then my uvula felt sore, still does a bit.. throat not that sore now but BOTH lumps still there. The second swelling goes into the bottom of tonsil crypt... I am praying it's somehow connected to tooth decay, or the first lump is maybe a cyst which is somehow draining into the tonsil via the second lump and into the crypt, but googled too much and now so anxious about cancer. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I’ve been dizzy for almost 6 months now. Vestibular dysfunction, tried VRT with no real improvement and my neurologist put me on Nortriptyline. He said it would take about a month to really start working and he’d see me back in two months.
About two weeks into it, I found my limbs were feeling weak and shaky, making walking even more difficult and anything requiring a lot of standing or balancing on one leg very hard. I called to let him know, and he said to keep going since I wouldn’t know yet, I was still adjusting and he’d see me at the end of two months.
Well, it’s over a month (this is my 32nd day) and things keep getting worse. The dizziness is stronger and more persistent, the shaking hasn’t gone away, my eyesight is worse, I sometimes feel like I’m plain going to pass out and all this has given me chronic headaches for the past two weeks straight – I feel like I live on pain relievers. But I’m scared to call the doctor – he’s made it clear, two months.
So… has anyone else taken Nortriptyline for the dizzies? Is one month just when getting better might start and you need to leave it longer to see real effects?
Prostate :: My Results After A PAE Procedure
I had a Prostatic Arterial Embolization (PAE) procedure done at the University of Miami on June 2, 2015 by Dr. Shivank Bhatia. Prior to the procedure I had completely lost my urinary function and was wearing an in dwelling Foley Catheter. I had been told by a prominent Urologist at UM that I would never urinate on my own again, I needed to learn how to self catheterize and that if I chose to have the PAE procedure I should expect it would not be successful. My prostate was over 100 grams, I was not a candidate for the TURP and I should go home and have a nice weekend.
My attitude was I had nothing to lose. If the PAE did not work I was no worse off than if I did not try. Dr. Bhatia was an expert in this procedure so I took a shot. My results have been nothing short of miraculous. The procedure was done on 6/2/15. I never had one ounce of pain, either during or after the PAE. I continued to wear the Foley, but it was horrible. I went for my first follow-up 10 days after the PAE. I still could not pee on my own. Dr. Bhatia wanted me to continue wearing the Foley for another week, but I just could not. He was understanding of my discomfort and I was shown how to self catheterize and went home without the Foley, thank God!
I used the catheters approx. every 6 hours or 4 times per day. Each time I used them, I would try to urinate on my own. On June 25th at around midnight I attempted to pee on my own and 6 drops came out. It was a revelation. I then used the catheter and went to bed, arising at 6 am. This time when I went to use the catheter 12 drops came out. Each time I went to use the catheter things would improve. From a weak stream to ultimately a regular pee. I reduced using the catheter from 4 times per day to 3, then 2, then I was comfortable knowing I did not need them at all. On July 1, 2015 I stopped using catheters. I never have looked back.
Three months post procedure I had an MRI. My prostate had shrunk from 0ver 100 grams to 72 grams. My PSA had gone from 8.7 to 2.5. I no longer had any symptoms that would indicate prostate or urinary issues. I sleep through the night. I pee when I have to go, but can go 6-8 hours in between bathroom breaks. I have no discomfort, no pain, my sex life is outstanding and I am 66 years old! Dr. Bhatia has given me my life back.
My suggestion to anyone who is having symptoms: Explore ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS!! I am certain the PAE will become Standard of Care in the future. Try and understand what the potential side effects are of the "traditional" surgical procedures. They may be acceptable for some, but they were not acceptable for me. I take no drugs or medications. The PAE had no side effects. There was no possibility of becoming incontinent or impotent or having an orgasm without an external ejaculation. Find a facility that is doing clinical trials with the PAE and a Dr. who is experienced. Peeing through a straw for the rest of my life was a real possibility. Now I function like I was 40 years old, not 66 years old. I highly recommend Dr. Shivank Bhatia of the University of Miami. He learned this procedure from the man who invented it and he trained with him in South America to perfect it. You have very little, if anything to lose, and you have getting the rest of your life back to normal to gain. Happy to answer any questions or inquiries. Good Luck to all.
Polymyalgia Rheumatica With Low ESR Results?
I have recently had blood tests again and have a low esr. I have symptoms of pmr and discussed these with my gp. I begged her for prednisolone and she reluctantly agreed but only one week. I felt great! I was walking normally, getting out of bed for the whole day where I was bed bound a lot before, just felt so wonderful having so little pain in my hips and shoulders. My blood tests came back normal and she said she cant give me any more and is referring me to rheumatology again. The pain has come back, my hips are crippling me my shoulders are so so painful again and nothing else has worked, just the prednisolone. My orthopaedic specialist may give me one more injection in ten days, vpbut that will be the third and he said 3 is the max so I should have relief for 3 weeks, if previous injections are to go by but after that.

I have been on roaccutane for while now, about a year or so. My skin has healed significantly, but I still get some small pimples from time to time but my face has become red on the parts that . Recently, I got a small pimple, it bursts by itself while I was asleep. 2 days later, the pimple healed by itself, the hole by the pimple has totally sealed, but there is this Small patch of redness where the pimple used to be. My questions are:
1) will the patch of redness go away on its own?
Recently, i have also taken up water polo, but with my condition, can I still play?
Gout And Pseudogout :: Allopurinol - No Results
I was on diclofenac 25mg tablets for a number of years for gout - however when I had a double heart bypass I was taken of this medication and put on allopurinol 200mg tablets - I have suffered the last 8 weeks with gout on my left ankle which has now also gone to my left ankle in that time I have been to the doctors 4 times and had 1 x ray. I do not think that allopurinol is the medication for me but my doctor will not take me off it. I have had another blood test and waiting for results, in the meantime I suffer with this. I do not think that the doctor is acting on my best interest

Abortion :: Taken A Lot Of Cytotec And Still Waiting For Results
I've been searching for a lot of articles, blogs, websites or anything that might help me with this. I'm 3 months pregnant and I've decided not to keep the baby because of these reasons: first is I'm a graduating student, and I'm not doing pretty well in school lately because I've been to distracted and burdened by this problem. Second is that, I'm only 19 years old and I'm pretty sure I cannot handle having a child right now considering my family's financial status. Third is that my boyfriend opted not to meet my parents and help me face the problem of telling them personally. Maybe he's just a big fat coward and he was too concerned of his future without thinking of mine too. And lastly, I do not want to have a child from him even if I know in the first place it's my fault for engaging in premarital sex.
So I took 7 (200 mg) of Cytotec 3 days ago and the experience was devastating. I inserted 4 pills in the vagina and took the remaining 3 pills buccally. After 30mins, I already started feeling itchy in my palms which also went all over my body. After an hour, I experienced severe cramps and chills which lasted for about 5 hours. I woke up feeling agitated and at the same time anticipating the pool of blood I will see in my pad. But to my disappointment, all I saw was tiny red dot and some clear sticky fluid. Until now, upon the third day of taking the pills, still no sign of blood except from the few drops of blood that went with my urine as I peed yesterday morning. But that was just it.
Am I being too impatient? Because I'm having a really hard time now trying to calm myself. I had to the process alone, and all the people I've told about this doesn't seem to support me, instead they condoned me for doing it. I feel really sad and depressed because I really have this strange feeling that the drug didn't work for me and all the feedback I'm getting from the people I love.

Sexual Health Men :: STD Like Symptoms With Negative Results
Iam 25 years old and have been dealing with an irritating soreness in the shaft of my penis for quite some time. In 2008 i was diagnosed with chlamydia,(its now 2014) i was treated and all test since have been negative. Here's were it gets tricky, i also infected my girlfriend, she was treated and also currently negative in all categories. Now, this unidentifiable soreness in me, from her doc is being labeled as BV but evidently men cant get BV so here i am searching for answers. I noticed this is actually common which isn't comfortable because everyone seems to have no clue on how to fix the problem. Hopefully i can offer some insight being i've been dealing with this for over 5 years. Since the initial infection i've been issued antibiotics over 5 times and once an anti-inflammatory steroid that worked well but seemed more like an aspirin to a headache and when off it had no real presence. Also, my lymph nodes are swollen, i'm not afraid for the simple fact i've been tested for everything and haven't had any new partners but this just needs to end. Another thing i notice is my girlfriend gets a scent, yea & also a taste, a metallic scent and a chalky taste almost like sweat but different. She gets BV antibiotics and that "solves" her problem, i'll take doxycycline and we have protected sex for a while and everything is seemingly cool. But the minute we decide on unprotected sex we're back at point A. Should we give it time? What is IT? First i thought maybe some rouge bacteria made it from the initial infection, maybe we were offset with our meds and not fully clear. I don't know but im at the point now were my doctors refuse to give me antibiotics because they just cant find anything wrong. To me it feels like i still have an STD, minus the constant pain, discharge and stuff, i basically do. I even sometimes get a flash of burn like irritation throughout the penis just out of the blue, whats that about? My next step is a cystoscopy, i'm not looking forward to that but in a sense i am. Im retiring from unprotected sex for the next year to give everything time to completely heal and questioning the importance of sex completely until then. Honestly im more interested in getting the metallic scent issue figured out because i've basically been cured of this soreness but there's something my ladies doc is overlooking. Maybe its the anti-inflammatories, im not sure but if anyone out there knows what im talking about don't hesitate to talk to me. Lets get this **** figured out. I am being tested for Addison's Disease and just received the below test results. I don't see my endo until 12/4/13, and wondered what the results might indicate. Any thoughts?
Historically I presented with low Cortisol and High ACTH.
* After a Dexamethasone Suppression test my blood cortisol was less than 1mcg (whatever that means)
* 17 Alpha Hydroxyprogesterone was 849
* ACTH Stim test results:
Baseline- 10mcg
30 min.- 13mcg
60 min.- 15mcg
CTH Stimulation Test Results - Cortisol Decrease
By way of background I have typical cushing's symptoms but my early labs including 24 hour urine were normal. So of course doctors have been dismissive. I had a brain MRI for tinnitus and convinced the radiologist to include the pituitary and a microadenoma was found. Now doctors are taking me seriously thank goodness. I had a an ACTH stimulation test a couple of days ago and these are the results posted online:
Base cortisol 42.0
30 min cortisol 26.0
60 min 49.2
Normal range for morning (test done at about 9 am): 6.2-19.4
Herpes :: Flu Shot Interfere With Test Results?
At the end of December my blood work came back positive for hsv2. I haven't had symptoms or outbreaks. After doing research I found that result index levels above 1.1 are considered positive but below 3.0 are low risk and could be false. Mine was 1.2. I had a flu shot the same day as my blood work. Could this have given a false result?

2 weeks ago I tried starting a strict gluten free diet following possibilities of coeliac disease or sensitivity to gluten. I expected my bowels to improve following a 6-8 week diary I had been keeping i regulated my intake of food and drink to give myself a 'reference' to begin with.
So I was generally ok, slightly bloated prior to gluten free. 3 days into gluten free I felt awful. Stomach pains, diarrhea really smelly gas, felt weak, headaches etc. Struggled to concentrate at work. My intake of fruit and veg increased and this period of feeling crap lasted 3 days. I was bad. I felt awful. Anyway things improved slightly and the diarrhea calmed but the stomach noises, pains etx were still present.
I'm just confused? If I drink beer, eat pizza, eat pasta...etc usually it irritates me. This week (after being gluten free for 2 weeks and feeling bad) I've sacked the gluten free diet, had bread, pizza etc...but just watched my sugar intake (as this is a sensitivity for me) and I'm having relatively normal bowel movements, no headache, no morning rushes...slightly constipated.
Not sure where to go from here? I seem to be going in this cycle where I will be ok for about a month, then have a proper bad spell usually 2 days of diarrhea, aches, headaches, brain fog etc...then back to normal. I've kept a diary of everything I've been eating and can't link anything to my causes. The 1 thing I thought would help...staying off gluten...actually seems to make things worse?
