Undiagnosed :: Viral Infection From Tick Bite?

Jan 24, 2016

I live near Sydney , Australia, 49 years old, normally very fit and healthy.  8 weeks ago I was bitten by a large adult tick on right shoulder while hiking. It was on me for about 24hrs before I noticed, killed and removed it.   A week after bite, chronic dull headaches started, sinus pain focussed on left side with whitish foamy post nasal drip, neck like a pepper grinder when I turn it, jaw joints clicking and stiff, darkened hollows around eyes, extreme unnatural fatigue.  Have been to 3 separate GP doctors and local hospital ED several times and they were at a loss except to give me painkillers and antibiotics. Given 4 blood tests and all returned completely normal with no markers for inflammation, serology negative for infections.  Had sinus x-ray: normal. Had brain MRI: normal  Have taken so far in sequence, Doxycycline 100, then Amoxicillin Forte with Clavulanic Acid, now on Cephalexin and Metronidazole in combination with grape seed extract.  None have made much difference except to lessen the headaches and I suppose rule out bacterial infections, so what I have is probably viral. Taking loads of vit C, garlic, horseradish, etc and resting in bed but nothing is helping. This going on for 6 weeks now, very debilitating.

Lyme Disease :: 4 Years Since Tick Bite

I was bitten by a tick in 2010. It wasn't until this week I learnt about Lymes disease. I got the bullseye rash, and as the months progressed I had the worst flu of my life, incredibly painful episodes of back pain and neck stiffness so much so that I was given physio  and literally couldn't move my neck when i was having a flair up. I got severe headaches which made me almost pass out and so dizzy  I was sick. I had tests for labarynthitis and saw a ear nose and throat specialist but found nothing. The right Side of my face I got facial numbness and neuralgia, and my eye would twitch and go blurry. Saw an eye clinic and found nothing.

Toddler Tick Bite - Bacitracin Cream? Or Antibiotics?

I removed a tick from my 3 year old son with tweezers. I estimate that the tick was on him for 2 hours. His pediatrician recommended that I clean the bite site and apply Bacitracin. I am pretty confident the tick was on him for less than 12 hours but I worry if I should still request antibiotics.

Skin And Hair :: Small Bump From Tick Bite

14 months ago I was bitten by a small tick. A few months later I still had a small bump looking like a pimple and it was itchy. I went to my skin doctor and he said it's nothing to worry about. He looked at it and had no further suspicions.

It is still there looking like a small pimple with fluid inside. Very Very small ! and not really red.

Should I test for Lyme ? Is there a possibility that the Tick's head is still there?

Is it possible that it is simply a scar from scratching it ? (can scars look like small pimples?)

Lyme Disease :: Nymph Female Deer Tick Bite

I was diagnosed with lyme and bartonella a year ago and have been on antibiotics and herbals. Solely Herbals for the last four months (I had been doing really well just some minor symptoms) until 2 weeks ago when my llmd put me on Zithromax 500mg (I had a family trauma and all my neuro lyme symptoms came back but not as extreme as first time around). Two days ago I found another tick on me, back of my knee. I don't know how long it was there but I think it couldn't have been more than a few hours. I called my llmd and she said I was covered for infections (currently taking byron white formulas in addition to Zithromax) except viral ones. I took the tick to the health dept. yesterday and they identified it as a nymph female deer tick. They couldn't see blood meal when they looked at it in the microscope but thought that perhaps my husband had damaged the back of the tick when removing it. Yesterday and today I've felt very lymie, headaches, stiff neck, sore throat, tired. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible that I got something even though the tick wasn't engorged. I'm freaking myself out that I have one of these horrible viruses like powassan.

Lyme Disease? Is This Lyme? Day After Tick Bite

I found a tick on my leg and it was not fully engorged and was able to fully remove The body with tweezers(stored tick in refrigerator with damp towel) and dumped rubbing alcohol on the bite site. Later that day there was a very small dark bruise like spot where the bite was, which I assumed was normal. next day early afternoon I realized it was red around the bite(small bruise spot still there) with a red ring on the outside, a little more red on the outside ring part but this was smaller than an American dime coin which is pretty small. I guess I should mention first, on the day of the tick removal I called my general practice doc over the phone and got prescribed doxycycline hyclate 100mg 2x a day for 14 days and started taking it the next day when I saw this redness. i have a pic if I can share?another thing to note is 1-2 days later the outer ring faded and is gone and now shows new very little amount of light bruising on the outer part.I had scheduled an appointment with my doc and showed pics showing this development and she told me she thought it was normal and not the notorious "bullseye" and said it was most likely irritation from dumping alcohol on the bite and was a normal reaction to bite. I am skeptical can the lyme rash be that small? she insisted it would be bigger I wish I could share pic are my chances good with this course of antibiotics I've read there are higher and/or longer doses people get.

Vestibular Neuritis - Viral Infection In Ear?

About 3 months ago (Nov 1). I woke up one morning and did not feel dizzy but definitely off. Groggy, lightheaded, wonky I guess you could say. I can describe it like how it would look if you were standing at the top of a tall building. Things just looked foggy to me. It scared the hell out of me. I waited about 2 weeks because I thought I was just tired. It wasn't going away so I went to the emergency room and the first thing he did was check my ear and told me it was red and inflamed which is causing me to feel wonky. He said it was a mild Vestibular Neuritis. He said it's just viral and it will go away on it's own. Well, I have gone to my family doctor about 5 times since then JUST to have her check in my ear. It's now February and she still sees that it is red and inflamed. She said she doesn't want to just throw antibiotics at it because it DEFINITELY is NOT an infections and that it is viral. She said she also does not want to prescribe dizzy meds because if the room is not spinning then she doesn't want me to take them. I feel like I'd rather feel dizzy than feel this!!! How long does this "viral" crap last???? I have not felt ANY improvement since it started. Unless I am just used to feeling this way so it doesn't seem as scary anymore?? The only way I can describe it is that I am the most tired I have EVER been in my life. (gone for TONS of bloodwork and I am totally fine everywhere). SO just super tired and I have MASSIVE sensitivity to certain lights. I work under one at work and maintenance had to come in and dim the light for me. It's so frustrating because people look at me and automatically know that something is wrong with me because they see I am trying to focus on their faces. It's been like 4 months and I can't even deal with this anymore. My doctor seems as if she is fed up with me which I hate because I obviously wouldn't be going there if there weren't a problem. Last time I went she said the ear was still red and that she was going to send me to an ENT specialist. I have been waiting SO long for this appointment and it is finally on March 3. I just have the strongest feeling they are going to send me away AGAIN saying I need an MRI and then I have to wait even LONGER. My husband and I want to try and have a baby and we have totally put our lives on hold because I don't want to be pregnant and not being able to go for these tests that you can't go to when pregnant. I just want answers. I'm so upset. I know it's not vertigo because things aren't spinning. It's so hard to describe I'm just so tired and have a foggy head and sometimes that same ear aches and even that side of my head aches too. And forget being under certain lights. Does anybody know what I am talking about?? Please help me. I'm so nervous about going to this END as well because I don't want them finding anything super serious. I am so scared from all of this and I just wish I could get some answers. Will the ENT confirm that it is in fact VN? My doctor hasn't confirmed that. She just keeps saying "it's red and it's viral." I am so fed up and so sick and tired of feeling tired and foggy and wonky.

Vestibular Neuritis - Inner Ear Due To Viral Infection - Imbalance

After 3 long months and what seems like an endless struggle to get diagnosed, I have been diagnosed with an imbalance between my inner ears due to a viral infection, leading to a diagnosis of vestibular neuritis. The doctor said my migraines could also possibly be presenting themselves atypically and aggravating the situation.

I am doing vestibular rehabilitation exercises and taking steps to unclog my sinuses.

This is the longest ailment I've had and quite frankly I'm fed up, I know rehabilition will take a while, however does anyone know how long this thing can last??? It's ruining my concentration at work and puts me off social situations (I can't drink, it makes me wake up the next day feeling extra dizzy)

Pleural Effusion :: Viral Infection With Chest Pain

I have had a viral chest infection for 10 weeks, have just gone back to work part time after 6 weeks off sick. My cough went weeks ago but I still feel unwell (which varies day to day) with lung pain (worse when I lie down, walk, bend etc) and ringing in the ears.

I am worried about how long it is taking to get better, the Doctor gave me nothing apart from painkillers and said it is just a nasty bug. I am also worried whether going back to work was the right thing, do you think it will make it worse?

Lyme Disease :: Bitten By Tick - What To Do?

Yesterday (Saturday) I went for a cycle along a rural cycle path in Devon. When I got home and took my top off my wife noticed something that turned out to be a tick embedded in the left side of my lower chest. She removed it carefully.

I had been on a residential for three days before, in some woods, but had showered every morning and I had a long bath on Friday night and noticed nothing.

We suspect it bit me on Saturday morning but could potentially be any time from Wednesday to Saturday.

What shall I do in terms of going to the doctors / monitoring symptoms?

Insect Bites :: Bloated Green Tick?

I found a tick on my back - it was very bloated, soft, and a light olive green color (almost like a small berry) and came off easily. I squished it and dark brown liquid came out. Does this have any significance? I've never seen/heard of such a thing.

Infectious Diseases :: Tick Borne Encephalitis

I got back from a 2 month trip across Eastern, Central and Southern Africa about 6 weeks ago. A few days after I got home I felt quite unwell, fever, headache etc and I was concerned I may have contracted malaria as I wasn't brilliant at remembering to take my pills. So I got referred to infectious disease department who tested me for lots of travel related illnesses. I was negative for malaria but came back positive for tick borne encephalitis and also Rickettsia (related to African tick fever) I think.

I am actually feeling fine now but they called me in for the results ... I'm just a little confused as from what I've seen on travel health websites is that you can't get tick borne encephalitis in africa! I didn't know this at the time so I didn't say anything to the doctor. You get it in Asia and Europe..I did go to Asia about a year and a half ago but would it be possible for this to still show up in my blood?

I'm just a bit worried as I know this disease can be potentially deadly or cause lasting neurological problems and there's no treatment. I'd feel a bit better knowing I definitely caught it from the earlier trip to Asia as then I know it would have made me much sicker by now if it was going to.

Infectious Diseases :: Flu Symptoms After A Cat Bite

So last friday night, my cat bit me on my lower leg. I washed it coz my mom got mad at me with water and soap. Yesterday I feel fatigued (probably due to my brother's birthday and I cooked half the day ugh) and just this morning when I woke up my throat feels itchy and I have had chills. I don't have fever but feels like about to have a flu. I had myself vaccinated after waking up but still feels chilly. Is it rabies? My cat looks well anyway so I don't think she has rabies but I want to be sure. Everyone in my family has had flu last week so I'm not really sure.

Dental Health :: Braces Or Jaw Surgery? 0.7 - 1mm Under-bite

I'm 19 years old and I have roughly about 0.7 - 1mm under-bite. My orthodontist recommended me to get jaw surgery or braces. I've heard that jaw surgery takes a long period of time for recovering, and plus, it's expensive. And for braces, I worry that they might not be able fix my teeth into the right positions, but I'm more convincing to it.

Dental Health :: Bite After Braces - Can Chew Normally?

Temporomandibular Joint :: Dental Work - Improper Bite

I have suffered from TMJ in the past but it always cleared up when the bite was adjusted properly. My latest dentist changed my bite with a filling on one side and then ground down the opposite side so it would match. The side he ground down was the "good side" as the other had been ruined and ground down previously because of a root canal. The result are teeth that are much to short and a bite that is all over the place. The facial pain is intense even after I went to another dentist who further adjusted me. It seems as though no one really knows what they are doing...everyone tells me I'm "ok" now and shuffles me off. I honestly feel like a don't have teeth on one side and all the natural ridges have been shaved off ALL the bottom teeth at this point. Frustration does not even cover what I am feeling. Does anyone know how on earth to fix this mess or what type of dentist can best alter the bite for the better. A month ago I was perfect..pain free for over a year and now I feel like a zombie who cannot talk or eat or do anything without extreme facial pain. I'm hoping someone clever can build it up properly or maybe do crowns or onlays ( all very tricky when you have tmj). One dentist offered me the little mouth guard ( the one who messed me up) I felt like yelling fix what you messed up and stop trying to sell me things I didn't need before you touched me. Just wondering if anyone ever suffered from the "too short ground down teeth" dilemma and if anyone was able to fix it. I've been living on pills that have done little to help for over a month.
