Unexplained Spells For Years, Numbness, Metallic Taste

Oct 14, 2013

I was wondering if anyone can help. I have had these strange episodes for years that no doctor can diagnose. Out of nowhere my hands go kind of numb, I get a metallic taste in my mouth, my face gets hot, and I feel like I am in a fog. Sometimes I feel nauseous, sometimes I feel like I will fall to the floor. They are very random. When I do have them, I will have a few in one day, like I said, sporadic. Has anyone else had these symptoms?

Occipital Neuralgia - Metallic Taste And Cheek Numbness

I was told by my neurologist that's what I have which is fine I have a lot of the symptoms (burning in head, ache, sharp pains, etc.) however I would like to know if anyone else experiences a metallic taste with theirs?

Or bitter taste? Hard to explain the taste exactly but I noticed I only get this taste when my ON acts up.

My right cheek also feels numbish when it comes along. I have a nerve test for neuropathy in a few weeks (to see which kind I have) and have had CT/MRI of brain which was clear so the taste may be related to the neuropathy but it just seems weird it comes when the ON comes.

Gallbladder Removal :: Headache, Wobbly And Metallic Taste After One Week

My 74 year old mother in law had her gallbladder removed a week ago. After a year of intense pain she is now pain free, but seems to be taking a long while to recover from the anaesthetic- she has suffered headaches, backache, a dry mouth and a nasty metallic taste as well as feeling unsteady on her feet. She has not eaten well for months, due to near constant pain, but although she has been drinking lots of water and eating small but proper meals again post op, she is not feeling herself yet. She has not had a GA in over 40 years and we have been reassuring her that at 74 it will take a good week to get all the anaesthetic out of her system, but I had hoped she would have been feeling better each day. It is my father in law's 80th on Saturday and she would love to be well - any suggestions welcome, or just reassurance. She is seeing a nurse tomorrow to have the stitches removed so will be checked then but I suspect she will be told it just takes time.

Duodenal Ulcer :: PPI Side Effects - Dry Throat And Mouth With Metallic Taste

I was given lansoprazole due to a suspected stomach ulcer. I started taking it but was unable to continue to take the lansoprazole as it gave me a worse pain in my stomach than I already had and also a dry throat and mouth. I have now been diagnosed with h.pylori and started with triple therapy - esomeprazole (nexium)/amoxicillin/clarithromycin. The nexium isn't causing any stomach pain but is making my throat and mouth very dry and given me a sore throat and I am also suffering from a very unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth constantly. I went to the doctors again today and was given omeprazole to take instead but now I don't want to take it because I don't feel it will make much difference. Has anyone else had these side effects from the PPI and are there any alternatives I can take to inhibit the acid enough to let the antibiotics do their job?

Bowel Disorders :: Irritable - Urinary Incontinence, Metallic Taste And Smell

I noticed the following changes in my body when I experiencing some stress:

1. Frequent urge to urinate.

2. Restless legs (and other parts of body).

3. Heightened irritability (Anger/Mood swing).

4. Irritable bowel.

5. Metallic taste in my mouth and weak gums.

6. Metallic smell coming from my fingers.

7. Frequent feeling of thirst.

All of these seven symptoms occur simultaneously when I am late awake in the night or during stressful situations, and they are affecting my ability to function.

On a related note, I also experience sleep paralysis and hyperhidrosis but it is not simultaneous with the above symptoms.

I have noticed that these symptoms manifest themselves together. The restless legs problem occurs when there is urge to urinate (which is frequent) and I experience some relief after I urinate.

There is some bowel irritability and gastric problems which worsens during the night.

I have noticed that even at times when I do get my 8 hours of sleep in the day, I experience rage issues late in the night (at around 4-5 am) which recedes quickly in an hour or two.

I experience metallic taste in my mouth and a metallic smell in my fingers often. Other symptoms, such as gastric problems, urinary incontinence, and restless legs are almost always present when I am experiencing the metallic taste and smell.

The symptoms are relieved when I urinate (which I have to do quite often), brush my teeth, or sleep. They return quickly though when I am experiencing some level of stress.

The problems have been slowly worsening over the years and are interfering my ability to function normally.

Digestive Disorders :: Upper Abdominal Pain, Metallic Taste, Bone Pain

I'm a 27 year old female and I've been having abdominal pain for 2 months now. I've had a CT scan and blood tests done and everything came back normal other than an elevated WBC in the urinalysis. I can't get in to see my doctor for a few days and just want some peace of mind. I'm having bad sharp upper abdominal pain. It started on the left side originally but is now happening all over my stomach and I'm ridiculously bloated. I started having weird bone pain a few weeks afterward--there is no pattern. My hands will hurt, then my left leg will hurt, then my right hip, etc. Today I started noticing a metallic taste in my mouth as well. Anyone know what this could be? I've researched everything from hemochromatosis (my mom carries the gene) to H Pylori but nothing fits perfectly.

Undiagnosed / Unexplained Chest Pain For 10 Years

After struggling with docs for years over this I thought I would turn to the wider world some input. I am a 27 year old, healthy (enough) male who has been getting intermittent, irregular and infrequent chest pains on and off for around 10 years.

During an 'attack' the pain can be quite severe and sharp - I guess a bit like being stabbed. The pain is localised to the left side of my sternum and feels fairly deep (i.e. it cannot be palpated).

Attacks can last anywhere from a few seconds to a day or so, and tend to come in 'clusters' that can be present for up to a week. There can be months between each cluster of attacks (if you get my drift!).

Pain can sometimes be exacerbated when leaning forward, coughing, lying on my side or raising an arm (seems to always vary - and can sometimes not have any stimulators).

During a 'cluster' period and between attacks I can often feel a mild, underlying ache in my chest. This is easy enough to ignore however.

I have had ECGs and chest x rays that have all been fine, and am not affected at all during exercise - I can happily go out and run 10k with ease.

Doctors have in the past ruled out gastro reflux as there was no tenderness on palpation of my stomach area, although I have sometimes thought that attack can follow a big meal and be accompanied by burping (although this may be my mind tricking me).

Musculoskeletal problems have been mentioned, but why would attacks come in clusters and seemingly out of the blue?

I am at a complete loss and doctors have been no help. My wife is scared that I will just drop dead from a heart attack - and I am struggling to find new ways of reassuring her.

Nervous System :: Dizzy Spells For The Last 15 Years

I’ve experience dizzy spells for the last 15 years; perhaps less than 10 attacks from 1997-2011. I’ve had noise in the ear and plugged ear always the same one ear. I had multiple ear infections in childhood and have had a few head traumas. Sometimes my hearing can improve. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with cat allergies?

In 2004, I had a MRI show 5 bulging discs in my low back. L1-5, SI. I’ve had 2 car accidents hit on the right and left, no whiplash though.Recently, Dec – Jan 2012 severe Vertigo 5 attacks in the last 10 weeks, the vertigo went away after the 6th week, the loss of balance has continued intermittently with an impending threat of vertigo(PTS) I've have severe neck pain, jaw pain, cranial pain, headaches.

The ENT doc(s) have determined that I have Meniere’s (hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness) this is based on symptoms and hearing test. They have prescribed diuretics to remove fluids. The first time I took the diuretic I had adverse effects. Not satisfied, I pushed for an MRI. Good thing; it showed 5mm cerebellar tonsillar ectopia on horizontal MRI, vertical MRI can show much worse. The neurologist working with the ENT, said it was mild and unremarkable (typical response). CTE can considered dangerous in most of the online information that I’ve found especially if it becomes a Chiari malformation with the development of syrinx - a buildup of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). The symptoms of CTE can be as follows: dizziness, nausea, hearing problems, ear problems, and loss of balance, head and neck pain, pressure in head (cranial). Now I have been reading about Occipital Neuralgia and the symptoms, which include dizziness. I’m getting confused, and frustrated. I’m losing hope in this effort to find the answer to my problem. I immediately improve with chiropractic adjustments; the problem is I cannot afford to go to the DC every other day. I’m requesting a second MRI (vertical) and a second opinion to rule out (hopefully) CTE or Chiari Malformation. At this point I would choose to have a surgery in hopes of a restored heath and vigor as opposed to taking medications that are supposed to address symptoms because they can’t find the solution.I used to be a person who went to exercise daily, I have a healthy diet, and drink plenty of water. I’ve never used recreational drugs. Drink very little alcohol. It’s really hard to feel like I’ve had a stroke or I’m debilitating. On a good day I am nausea free and almost feel normal, I feel my heartbeat in my ear,it feels like my brain and eyes are delayed not tracking when I move or like I’m moving inside my head, sometimes I feel pulled to the left, like I might fall over, last night I felt like I was going have another attack of vertigo. When I start to move with some momentum I all of the sudden feel uneasy and begin to feel a vestige of nausea Can anyone on here make some suggestions?

Thyroid Disorders :: From A Sweet Taste To A Bitter Taste

(Background: Had an ear infection over the Summer that had me taking antibiotics, nose and ear drops. Put flea powder on my cat that went up my nose and caused a metal blood taste in my mouth. I stopped drinking well water because of it. A couple of months after the ear infection seemed to go away.) My sense of taste sent me to the doctor to begin with. If I ate certain foods my body felt sweat through my veins, burning almost. So I went off sugar thinking that was it. I had my blood tested and they said I was on the border of having thyroid. I took the synthroid medicine prescribed and had a really bad reaction, so they took me off of them. I haven't had any medication for 1 month and a half, but now my taste went from sugary to bitter. Like maybe I had ate too much cheese or something. Sometimes it feels like I have a lump of cream cheese in my stomach.  I am waiting to go to a specialist about my thyroid, but I have my doubts about it. I think I might have a bacteria infection throughout my body. I did notice a bump on the roof of my mouth on the right side. Is this normal? Can someone please tell me what is going on? I have always been a worry wart, but I am not tired, I have a little difficulty going to sleep, and I lost 7 pounds since June.

Unexplained Itching On Elbows

Recently, I have experienced an itching sensation inside my left elbow. There is no sign of a rash or any bites (I have examined under a magnifying glass) and it comes in episodes of several minutes both day and at night when it wakes me up. It does not respond to any gel or cream including moisturising creams and hydrocortisone 1% cream. Episodes last between five to thirty minutes and it is very difficult to resist the urge to scratch.

My recent history has been that of a second heart attack in January and a procedure to carry out angioplasty and the insertion of a single stent. I have recovered fairly well. I am also type two diabetic and take metformin to control my blood sugar levels. I take a beta blocker, an ACE inhibitor, blood thinning agents and a statin.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome :: Unexplained Bruising?

Just wondering whether people get any unexplained bruising or get easily bruised? I get them quite often and it's worrying me. My rheumatologist said that it can happen as our body is over sensitive.

General :: Unexplained Muscle Pain And Weakness And Fatigue

About 10 days ago, I began to feel little prickly feelings, like a light needle poke, in random places on my body. I was a little concerned but figured it would go away. After a day or 2, I began experiencing a little muscle cramp in my left and right legs but my cholesterol and blood had just been checked so I called my doctor's office to find out if it might be a blood clot. They told me there were no blockages (they had just done a routine cholesterol test on me about a week before). Another day went by then my muscles began to get sore and my joints were popping sometimes. My muscles in my legs, arms (mildly), around my ribs (sometimes) and my under arms (sometimes) felt sore. I used a heated massaging pillow to make them feel better but was perplexed as to why I was having these aches. Sometimes I felt an arthritic ache also like the pain might have been in my bones. I was also having mild dull headaches. Then came a day when I felt extremely fatigued and so after a couple of days I went to the doctor. She said she was thinking I might have anemia so she had me go to the hospital and get a CBC test, a CPK test and to have my thyroid tested (I have hypothyroidism which I take medication for). The day I had my blood work done (yesterday) I felt very fatigued and was asleep by 9:00 pm, which is very unusual for me. I didn't feel muscle pain just weakness sort of. Today I feel a little muscle pain but not much, but I do feel a little weak. Also I had been having panic attacks a few times during all of this. I called the doctor's office today and the nursing staff told me the results of the blood tests from yesterday morning were all normal. I had thought it could be anemia which at least then I would have a diagnosis and could be treated but now I am even more scared because I don't know. What could this be?

Metallic Smell Coming From My Vagina During Intercourse

For about a month now I have noticed a metallic smell coming from my vagina. Recently it has gotten stronger. During intercourse is the only time I smell it. I also am experiencing dryness during intercourse as well. My fiance noticed it a few days ago while we were intimate. He also said he felt a burning sensation, but I feel nothing. We don't use protection when we have sex..Its not my period, but I know something isn't right. Now my fiance feels burning. I'm very worried and have an appointment in a few days to get checked out. What can this be?

Depo-Provera? Constant Migraines, Bloating, Irritation And Unexplained Anger

I was on the depo for a year. The first 3 months were fine, no side effects at all. The second month started the pain. Constant migraines, bloating, irritation and unexplained anger, depression, mood swings, panic attacks, and severe hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia so bad that I had to eat ALL THE TIME or I would be close to fainting.

I never got the 4th shot. Coming off of the depo was complete torture. I was more depressed, I was fighting with my fiance so much that we almost broke off a multiple year relationship.. I was suicidal for a long time. But the problem is, the symptoms from coming off of it never got any better.

It's been 2 years, and I"m still depressed. Almost suicidal most days. I"ve been off and on a few different antidepressants and mood stabilizers but they only help until something triggers me into a depressive-bipolar state. I've also gained close to 50 pounds since coming off and that hasn't helped the depression either =/ (no real change in diet or exercise. I exercise the same but honestly eat better than I did when I was on it)

Is it even possible for the depo to be affecting me still? Could it have permanently affected me?

Women's Health :: Copper/metallic Vaginal Smell?

The last couple of months, I have been suffering what I find to be an unusual vaginal odor. It is not "fishy" or "bleachy" but rather smells... metallic/coppery? Could also be described as a slightly "sour" smell?

Similar to the smell of menstruation-- yet occurs even when I'm not on my period. My discharge doesn't have this odor at all, and doesn't seem to be out of the norm. I can only smell it on my partner after we've had intercourse, etc

My doctor has prescribed me medication for yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis and both didn't seem to have any impact whatsoever on the issue.

I'm taking Blackmores Women's Bio Balance probiotics and I haven't seen any change either.

This is becoming very frustrating and putting a damper on my self-confidence and my sex life.
