I was diagnosed with non ulcer dyspepsia two years ago but the ppi make me sick. Been taking ginger capsules for three days not helping. Please help
View 6 RepliesI was given lansoprazole due to a suspected stomach ulcer. I started taking it but was unable to continue to take the lansoprazole as it gave me a worse pain in my stomach than I already had and also a dry throat and mouth. I have now been diagnosed with h.pylori and started with triple therapy - esomeprazole (nexium)/amoxicillin/clarithromycin. The nexium isn't causing any stomach pain but is making my throat and mouth very dry and given me a sore throat and I am also suffering from a very unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth constantly. I went to the doctors again today and was given omeprazole to take instead but now I don't want to take it because I don't feel it will make much difference. Has anyone else had these side effects from the PPI and are there any alternatives I can take to inhibit the acid enough to let the antibiotics do their job?

View 3 RepliesI was wondering if anyone can help. I have had these strange episodes for years that no doctor can diagnose. Out of nowhere my hands go kind of numb, I get a metallic taste in my mouth, my face gets hot, and I feel like I am in a fog. Sometimes I feel nauseous, sometimes I feel like I will fall to the floor. They are very random. When I do have them, I will have a few in one day, like I said, sporadic. Has anyone else had these symptoms?
View 6 RepliesI was told by my neurologist that's what I have which is fine I have a lot of the symptoms (burning in head, ache, sharp pains, etc.) however I would like to know if anyone else experiences a metallic taste with theirs?
Or bitter taste? Hard to explain the taste exactly but I noticed I only get this taste when my ON acts up.
My right cheek also feels numbish when it comes along. I have a nerve test for neuropathy in a few weeks (to see which kind I have) and have had CT/MRI of brain which was clear so the taste may be related to the neuropathy but it just seems weird it comes when the ON comes.
My 74 year old mother in law had her gallbladder removed a week ago. After a year of intense pain she is now pain free, but seems to be taking a long while to recover from the anaesthetic- she has suffered headaches, backache, a dry mouth and a nasty metallic taste as well as feeling unsteady on her feet. She has not eaten well for months, due to near constant pain, but although she has been drinking lots of water and eating small but proper meals again post op, she is not feeling herself yet. She has not had a GA in over 40 years and we have been reassuring her that at 74 it will take a good week to get all the anaesthetic out of her system, but I had hoped she would have been feeling better each day. It is my father in law's 80th on Saturday and she would love to be well - any suggestions welcome, or just reassurance. She is seeing a nurse tomorrow to have the stitches removed so will be checked then but I suspect she will be told it just takes time.
View 4 RepliesI noticed the following changes in my body when I experiencing some stress:
1. Frequent urge to urinate.
2. Restless legs (and other parts of body).
3. Heightened irritability (Anger/Mood swing).
4. Irritable bowel.
5. Metallic taste in my mouth and weak gums.
6. Metallic smell coming from my fingers.
7. Frequent feeling of thirst.
All of these seven symptoms occur simultaneously when I am late awake in the night or during stressful situations, and they are affecting my ability to function.
On a related note, I also experience sleep paralysis and hyperhidrosis but it is not simultaneous with the above symptoms.
I have noticed that these symptoms manifest themselves together. The restless legs problem occurs when there is urge to urinate (which is frequent) and I experience some relief after I urinate.
There is some bowel irritability and gastric problems which worsens during the night.
I have noticed that even at times when I do get my 8 hours of sleep in the day, I experience rage issues late in the night (at around 4-5 am) which recedes quickly in an hour or two.
I experience metallic taste in my mouth and a metallic smell in my fingers often. Other symptoms, such as gastric problems, urinary incontinence, and restless legs are almost always present when I am experiencing the metallic taste and smell.
The symptoms are relieved when I urinate (which I have to do quite often), brush my teeth, or sleep. They return quickly though when I am experiencing some level of stress.
The problems have been slowly worsening over the years and are interfering my ability to function normally.
I am 17 weeks this is my 2nd child my little girl is 5 years old but with her it was basically the perfect pregnancy. No morning sickness or anything. But this time around I've had this nasty taste in my mouth that won't go away unless I am eating or drinking something and then it comes right back. Have any of you experienced this and if so what did you do or take?

View 2 RepliesApprox 6 months ago I developed a nasty salty taste in my mouth which seems to emanate from my tongue, I think, I have been to the dentist, no problems there, I have been to the doctor, had blood tests to eliminate anything more sinister, bloods came back fine so what is causing this. I did read somewhere that when going through the menopause, which I am, can cause a lot of things to change in your body, could this be one of them. Also I was told that it could be a sign of not enough Zinc in my system. I would love to hear from anyone else who may have encountered this problem. It doesn't make me feel ill so I do feel a bit of a fraud but it is the most irritating sensation and at its worse it is a real stinging sensation on my tongue.

View 7 RepliesI'm a 27 year old female and I've been having abdominal pain for 2 months now. I've had a CT scan and blood tests done and everything came back normal other than an elevated WBC in the urinalysis. I can't get in to see my doctor for a few days and just want some peace of mind. I'm having bad sharp upper abdominal pain. It started on the left side originally but is now happening all over my stomach and I'm ridiculously bloated. I started having weird bone pain a few weeks afterward--there is no pattern. My hands will hurt, then my left leg will hurt, then my right hip, etc. Today I started noticing a metallic taste in my mouth as well. Anyone know what this could be? I've researched everything from hemochromatosis (my mom carries the gene) to H Pylori but nothing fits perfectly.
View 2 Replies(Background: Had an ear infection over the Summer that had me taking antibiotics, nose and ear drops. Put flea powder on my cat that went up my nose and caused a metal blood taste in my mouth. I stopped drinking well water because of it. A couple of months after the ear infection seemed to go away.) My sense of taste sent me to the doctor to begin with. If I ate certain foods my body felt sweat through my veins, burning almost. So I went off sugar thinking that was it. I had my blood tested and they said I was on the border of having thyroid. I took the synthroid medicine prescribed and had a really bad reaction, so they took me off of them. I haven't had any medication for 1 month and a half, but now my taste went from sugary to bitter. Like maybe I had ate too much cheese or something. Sometimes it feels like I have a lump of cream cheese in my stomach. I am waiting to go to a specialist about my thyroid, but I have my doubts about it. I think I might have a bacteria infection throughout my body. I did notice a bump on the roof of my mouth on the right side. Is this normal? Can someone please tell me what is going on? I have always been a worry wart, but I am not tired, I have a little difficulty going to sleep, and I lost 7 pounds since June.

First, I am diabetic and have had a fairly normal healthy life except in the last two years where I gained 40 pounds, did not control my blood sugars well, and went off the rails. I have had a lot of issues this year, but to focus on my most recent issues, I had a A1c of 10.5 two month ago and went to 9.1 a month ago finally to 7.6 right before my single incision laparoscopic with robotic-assisted single-incision surgery to remove my infected gallbladder (Hida Scan 11% no gallstones). 6 month ago i started experiencing a lot of bloating, indigestion and took charcocaps that helped a lot after meals.
Two weeks ago I went out for a cup of iced coffee (huge coffee drinker 3-4 cups a day for a long time no problems for years), and something hit me, it felt like a sharp pain and instant feeling of bleh no appetite and sick feeling the rest of the day. This continued for a week before I knew something was wrong, I could not have anything acidic or felt like I could eat anything. I had just seen my doctor for a bike accident a month prior to get a referral to a PT and osteopathic doctor. I had a l3/l4 compressed nerve with a twisted sacral (this is much better now with some minor spasms in my right leg from time to time). With all of that pain (took hydrocodone and muscle relaxants to sleep, sleep was poor) and school, I figured I must have given myself an Ulcer. My doctor game me a ppi-omeprazole (i've never had reflux and didn't then) since I had symptoms of some burning sensations and this chronic dyspepsia so this would treat the possible Ulcer for two weeks while I was sent for an ultrasound to check out my gallbladder (family history - Mom, aunt, and uncle had their's out with gallstones). The ppi sort of helped but I just was fatigued, could not eat anything but a bland diet, I had chronic dyspepsia and general nausea that I could never shake. My daily caloric intake decreased with each new day and food just made me generally feel sick, however if I skipped meals it would still be bad, worse with food.
TEST RESULTS
After the Hida scan came back positive with an ejection rate of 11%, I scheduled my new a1c test, ekg (family history of heart disease), I was cleared and scheduled for surgery. I stopped taking the ppi as I believed this to be the cause of all my problems. btw, I was 254 the end of june and lost 25 pounds by the time of surgery (average daily caloric intake ~900-1200 prior to surgery
POST SURGERY
After the surgery 7/21-one week ago, I had my two days of pain and adjustment, and recovered decently with a soft food and liquid diet. I noticed the general sickness was gone! Hazzah!, except on Saturday I was feeling bloated, cramping, and I could not eat a solid one bite without feeling sick. I knew I was constipated. I stopped the pain meds the day before and I knew I had not eaten too much but it was over a week since i went. I took magnesium citrate and nothing after 7 hours, I drank another 1/2--then BOOM it was insane. I was sooo wiped out and tried to replace lost liquids but I believe I was dehydrated. I was sick that night and stomach was not happy.
Sunday was much better but I was wiped out still and felt generally just depleted of all my energy. I ate, walked a bit and then came back home. That night I started feeling very uncomfortable and the symptoms were somewhat similar to prior to surgery of the general dyspepsia and nausea chronically. I could not sleep because of my back problems (had to sleep upright on my back all week). I woke up in the middle of the night turned to my side and then all of a sudden I felt a warm rush of something just above my stomach and the constant burn in my stomach no reflux. I could not sleep until the morning.
NOW,
I have had really bad gas (low fat diet) for the past few days. I was getting and feeling better on day four but now this!
I felt extreme discomfort all day, felt like a low grade fever 98.6 (no fever) incision site is also slightly red, but the doctor said to call if I had a fever. I was worried about an SSI. The pain was like I threw up (I never have even starting out back in at the coffee shop) and that ache afterwards. The burning sensation let up later in the day after I took some antacids and saltines (I must have some acid issues, but I have read a lot of people suspecting many people may actually have low acid).
The thing is a lot of people have episodes after food, but mine is chronic with mild discomfort, burning sensations, upper abdomen and stomach discomfort (with some nausea), and food helps it initially and then it comes back. I feel week, slight low grade fever even though I don't have one. I keep thinking I have an infection of H. Pylori or something. Food takes a while to do much, I walk after I eat everything. I feel like I could eat but I get so much bloating and indigestion that it is uncomfortable. I drink plenty of water, but I wonder if I am low on essential things for the long ongoing low calorie daily diet. I can't eat more then 800 calories even with smaller meals-since Thursday.
Why was my gall bladder inflamed in the first place? I had no stones, and the surgeon said I had a very long a big gallbladder (ready to rupture!) that was really inflamed including a little on the liver. Pathology reports came back negative. I theorize my rapid change in weight and blood sugar levels inflamed the organ or an infection.
Possibilities:

H. Pylori
Peptic Ulcer (was never officially tested)
Gastritis
Anxiety
Low/High Stomach Acid
Low bile leak?
Sphincter of oddi dysfunction
What I feel could help:
HCL Betaine
Digestive Enzyme (Garden of life chewable vegetarian)
ppi (I would hate to take them unless I had to)
something to coat my stomach if I do have an ulcer to heal
ability to eat more so I can have more assimilated minerals, ect.
Anxiety med (first year i've had a lot of anxiety-mainly school related and upcoming wedding planning for next year
more tests!

When will I get my appetite back?
(i really suspected my odds were decently good that I would get better after surgery, I had a great surgeon)
Did anyone have any of these chronic symptoms? Is it due to an infection or some issue with surgery?
Have some people eventually been able to eat what they wanted after a period of time?
How many had these excessive bloating, indigestion, nausea and general malaise through the day, worse a little while after food or between meals?
For about a month now I have noticed a metallic smell coming from my vagina. Recently it has gotten stronger. During intercourse is the only time I smell it. I also am experiencing dryness during intercourse as well. My fiance noticed it a few days ago while we were intimate. He also said he felt a burning sensation, but I feel nothing. We don't use protection when we have sex..Its not my period, but I know something isn't right. Now my fiance feels burning. I'm very worried and have an appointment in a few days to get checked out. What can this be?
View 1 RepliesTwo weeks ago my eye began to tear continuously, and I was sensitive to sunlight. The next day my eyes were paining and were red and tearing, and I could not stand the presence of light. Whenever light appeared, I had sharp pain in my right eye and constant tearing. I tried to sleep that night but could not. I went to a local eye doctor who said I had a corneal ulcer due to bacterial infection through contact lens and referred me to a cornea specialist. The specialist prescribed me a number of antibiotic drops such as Vigamox, Amphotericin B etc. Next time I visited( 5 days later), he said the ulcer was healing. He cultured my cornea scraping and it was determined as pseudomonas spp. So I was prescribed ciplox(as it was determined sensitive to ciprofloxacin) and Vigamox. 7 days later, my eye is now almost clear and the pain and redness is gone but my vision is incredibly blurry, as if I am looking through a cloud. At times, my vision seems to be getting better, but then, particularly in the morning, it is blurry. Can anyone tell me how their vision came back during the healing process? Was it a steady progression or uneven? When did the blurriness go completely? How long does the recovery process last? How do I know how much scarring has or will occur?My doctor tells me that he does not know how much scarring I will have or how much of my vision will return, so I am very scared. I am a software developer, and now I can't read anything clearly and all activities have been on hold. This is particularly hard for me as I just can't sit at home all day. View 1 RepliesMy son, who's 23, texted me that he thinks he has an ulcer. I asked why and he said he has been sneezing (from his mouth) blood, burping up blood and has BM's with blood streaks...
He's many states away and his Dad (who he lives with) is telling him it sounds like an ulcer. He said the gagging and burping up blood happens anytime he eats or drinks something. I don't know what his daily habits are, since I'm not there, but I know he does drink. And he's trying to quit smoking by using a vape pen. He's talked in the past about a feeling of having a huge gas bubble in his gut, that moves around and can be very painful. Please help me to know if I should insist he go to the doctor, He has no insurance so he would need to know it sounds serious.
Im a 25 year old male, I was diagnosed with Gastritis and esophagitis about 6months ago and was put on lansoprozol. I then went for a second camera into my stomach 2 months later and the gastritis had gone but i still had esopagitis and a stomach ulcer had developed.Im currently waiting on my 3rd camera which will take it up to 9 months with all of these problems. I'm currently on omeprazole twice a day and my diet is perfect plus i don't smoke and haven't drank in 9 months.
View 19 RepliesThe last couple of months, I have been suffering what I find to be an unusual vaginal odor. It is not "fishy" or "bleachy" but rather smells... metallic/coppery? Could also be described as a slightly "sour" smell?
Similar to the smell of menstruation-- yet occurs even when I'm not on my period. My discharge doesn't have this odor at all, and doesn't seem to be out of the norm. I can only smell it on my partner after we've had intercourse, etc
My doctor has prescribed me medication for yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis and both didn't seem to have any impact whatsoever on the issue.
I'm taking Blackmores Women's Bio Balance probiotics and I haven't seen any change either.
This is becoming very frustrating and putting a damper on my self-confidence and my sex life.
Ok so about 6 days ago my husband and I have had unprotected sex for 3 days in a row and then 3 days after I started spotting its a little pink with a high metallic smell slight cramp and slight pressure almost like I'm fixing to start my period.
View 4 Repliesif i eat after 10.30am in the morning by 8 pm im bloating up with gas in my stomach, it will not pass either direction, it causes nausea after a while and vomiting of some very strong stomach acid that burns my throat. this may last anywhere from a few hours to the early morning of the next day....but i do find that when my stomach is completely empty after vomiting the pain subsides and im fine again....sometimes i get the sweats with the abdominal pain and discomfort.....now if i don't eat at all and fast for the day i have no stomach issues at all....i have questioned whether i have an ulcer but have had no other symptoms of that.....
