Accent MC (2006-11) :: Rear Brakes Squeaking When Lift Off The Pedal

Dec 17, 2011

I've had my Accent for a year and a half and now it has about 23k miles on it. I noticed that whenever I would apply the brakes, and the lift my foot off the pedal, I would hear a squeak . . . kind of like a squeaky door. It would happen every time I would lift off the brake pedal. At first, I thought it was the pedal itself, then I rolled down the window and realized it was coming from my rear drums.

So I took the rear drums off which was a PITA to get them off, and used some brake cleaner and white lithium grease on the backing plates of the shoes and on the springs, and the squeak is gone!

I suspect this is probably an issue with drums since it's a relatively closed system and brake dust tends to accumulate in there. Any good technique to remove the rear drums, other than using a hammer to tap it loose?

Here's a pic of the rear brakes with the drum off.

Lexus RX 2010-15 :: Rear Door / Lift Gate Squeaking

My 2010 RX350 (~30k miles) recently has been making a squeaking noise when I close my rear lift gate. Sounds like the squeaking is coming from the left side "Rear Door Hatch Support" ..i believe that is what it is called. Is this something I can WD-40 and lube? Car is under warranty..

Accent MC (2006-11) :: Rear Drums Clicking When Applying Brakes?

I am having a issue with my 07 accent. Had front rotors and pads replaced because they needed to be. Clicking continued. Had drums and shoes replaced last month. Clicking went away for a few weeks. Recently started back up just the other day. The clicking is only when applying the brake and it sounds like it is coming from the right rear drum. It doesn't interfere with stopping, but it s so annoying and brakes shouldn't make that kind of noise anyway.

Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2009 - Noisy / Grinding Rear Brakes

My read brakes have been grinding. I bought new pads to replace them. After pulling the drums I noticed that they were hardly worn. 50,000 miles on the car. They was a bunch of brakes dust in them. Cleaned the dust out and put the drums back on. It was quiet for about 3 weeks, now the grinding is back.

Accent MC (2006-11) :: Loud High Pitch Squealing From Rear Brakes

I have a 06 accent sedan and I have been having some issues with the back brakes that were just replaced prior to the motor vehicle being done the end of June. I had the brakes replaced and everything was working fine up until the middle of last week; now the brakes in the back are squealing like the warning plates are rubbing together again (loud high pitch squealing) what could be causing this...I took it back to where I had the brakes replaced and they did a check and said that it did not look like anything was wrong and they asked me when my front brakes were replaced, I told him they were replaced last August when I have a issues with a caliper freezing up and had to replace everything in the front (brakes, caliper etc). So long story short he said to keep driving and see if you can tell if the squealing is coming from the front or the back and come back when its happening or if you can determine which one it is..

Hyundai - Accent :: 2009 - Brakes Squeaking Especially When First Driving

I have a 2009 Hyundai Accent with about 90,000 miles. I bought it with 30,000 from a dealership that had been using it as their "loaner" car. Don't know if the brakes were new when I got it, but let's assume they were.

The brakes have been squeaking since Day 1, especially when first driving. In the first few years of ownership I took the car to several different mechanics, convinced my brakes needed replacing. Was told that no, I had tons of life left on them and the rotors were in good shape. Each time they'd clean the dust off them and I'd be squeak-free for a day or two. After a few years of ownership, when it rained and I'd start driving my brakes would be SO loud and an almost-grinding noise could be heard. Not only that, but sometimes after a rainy night when I first braked, the car would almost lurch when making a stop. I honestly thought I had been lightly rear-ended the first few times it happened. Asked multiple mechanics to check the brakes and was told everything looked fine.

Now, I've put nearly 60,000 miles on this car. I still haven't replaced the brakes because each time I bring it somewhere to do so I get told I don't need it. I can't believe that brakes with 60,000 miles on them have any life left, but multiple mechanics say otherwise. The most recent mechanic attributed the lurching to moisture in the ABS. Seriously, what could be going on here?

I'm about to tell my mechanic to replace both my brakes/rotors next week no matter what, but it would be nice to know possible causes to my issue. I drive my toddler around daily and I just don't trust my brakes. One brake failure will be one too many. On a side note, this, coupled with low MPH, no power, and a transmission I feel is slowly on a death spiral.

Honda - Cr-v :: Rear Brakes Won't Stop Squeaking After New Drums And Shoes

I took my car in about three months ago when brake indicator started squeaking in the rear. Shop told me that the drums, shoes and wheel cylinders needed replacing. After spending a few hundred replacing all those parts, the squeaking began. It's a kind of rhythmic squeak that starts towards the end of braking. the rate varies with the speed of the car, so it definitely seems to be coming from the brakes. I took it in not long after. They said they only heard a clicking noise, and that was because the brakes were mis-adjusted. They re-adjusted it. I drove it home. The squeaking is still there. This also happens a lot more when it's heated up so maybe that's why they didn't hear it in the first place.

I take the car back. They said the drum has been warped. They replace the drums. I take it home. Still squeaking a few days later, and I feel the brake pedal pulsating now. I take it back in. They say the issue is from the front brake rotors being warped. I get these replaced elsewhere with ceramic pads. Squeaking is still there.

I take it back in to the original shop because I'm certain it's from the rear. They look at it again and say the drums are warped, again, and that they'd never seen anything like it. They turn the drums. (and receipt says there will be no more warranty on the rear drums... what?)

Unsurprisingly, squeaking did not stop, not even the day after. I took it to a different shop. They spent all day on it and drove it around with me and their final word is that the reason for the squeaking is cheap parts. They recommended I call the original shop and ask for factory parts and offer to pay the difference for the parts.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: V6 Brakes Squeaking All The Time

I am asking this question for a friend of mine that lives about 2 hours away from me. She is having trouble with her brakes squeaking all the time. She just had new pads put on the car about 2 years ago. She stopped by a brake shop and they said the pads are good but the rotors have something on them which is making the squeak. I told her the rotors could be turned down to remote the varnish but she said the guy told her the rotors could not be turned down. Since she has moved since she had the new pads installed there is no way to get them to do it correctly. How to make the brakes stop squeaking short of changing the rotors.

Prius (2004-09) :: Rear Axle Cracks / Rust At Corner / Bushing Arm - Squeaking Brake Pedal

Just hit 225k with my 2004 Prius about a week ago. I passed inspection without replacing the (slightly) cracked rubber bushings for now, but what worries me is the cracks and a slight hole (it has not rusted completely through). Pictures attached. Should I do anything about this, and if so what?

Also, I've noticed that when I let go of the brake pedal, especially after a medium to the hard stop, I hear a squeaking... what's the cause for that? I know the front rotors have a bit of rust on the edges, but not sure if that's the cause... it seems to come from the back.

Other than that, the only other noise I've noticed is a slight clacking/tapping when the A/C is on, usually in hotter weather. The only thing I needed to pass inspection was to replace the muffler after a year and 1/2 ago, the last non-OEM part they put in at another shop was junk and rusted through pretty badly leaving a hole that was leaking. Ended up getting it replaced at the dealer with the OEM part this time...

Suburban :: Excessive Dust On Rear Brakes - Light Squeaking Noise When Tires Rotate

So my saga continues with my rear brakes on my 99 Suburban - had a glazing problem that was eventually discovered, glaze knocked off old pads and then glaze came back again. So we replaced the rear drums and pads. A month and a half later I get an irritating squeaking noise.

Noise - when the tires are rotating they make a light squeaking noise, a rotating/pulsing squeak; when the brakes are applied they make a lower pitch squeak and if I apply just the right pressure on the brakes I can get the noise to go away (while also giving it gas to keep moving).

Last night I inspected the rear brakes and found an excessive amount of dust/grime on the pads. The drums we fairly clean. The pads had a heavy layer of rust/grime on them. When I ran my finger over them it left no mark on the pad because it was so heavy, but my finger had this sooty grime on it. The rust covered about a 1/3 to 1/2 of the pads (each pad had a different amount of coverage).

Everything is brand new and I'm not sure what is causing all the dust coverage.

Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2009 - Squeaking Clutch When Depressed

2009 Accent 5 speed 66K miles. This is something which I recently noticed with the onset of winter. When I depress the clutch pedal, I have a very audible squeak. Think old door hinge squeak. So metal is rubbing against metal somewhere inside the bellhousing without enough lubrication.....not good. I pulled off the dust boot on the side of the bellhousing and tried my best to push moly grease around the clutch fork stud, hoping that was the origin. The noise went away for roughly a half a day but is back in full force....funny how cars do that.

Space seems EXTREMELY limited on lubricating the proper area. Or....is this a warning mechanism built into the clutch pressure plate assembly to warn of replacement soon? While I am asking these questions, what is a good time to look into replacing the clutch? The parts for the car seem relatively cheap, if I replace the clutch assembly, I may consider replacing the flywheel and clutch hydraulics as well as a whole system replace/refresh.

That aside, is there anyway to eliminate the squeaking without having to crack open the bell housing?

Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2010 - Seat Squeaking Even On Tiny Bumps

This seems like a trivial issue, but it's driving me crazy. A day after driving my new Accent SE off the lot, I put the seats down to move the family Christmas tree back into storage.

When I returned the seats to their upright position, an annoying squeak replaced the silence of the car. Every tiny bump triggers the squeak.

When I put the rear passenger side seat flat, the squeak stops, so I know it's somewhere in that area.

What kind of lubricant do you recommend for hinges and latches? White lithium grease? Should it be the paste variety or spray?

Any similar squeak in their 3-door Accent? I searched HMA Service, but no relevant topics came up.

Have no clue what it is, I have 145000 miles. Also when running the engine hard notice a hissing sound sort of like turbo at high rpms especially with ac on high.

Ford Brakes/Suspension :: 2006 F250 - Rattling After Doing Brakes / Emergency Brake And Rear Wheel Bearings

Before I get started... My truck is a 2006 F-250 Super Duty XLT 6-speed 4x4 with a Limited Slip.

I just got finished with a big job on my truck. New pads all the way around, turned rotors, new emergency brake shoes, hardware, and backing plate as well as replaced the rear wheel bearings both inner and outer as well as the axle o-ring and inner seal. Also, took off the rear pumpkin cover painted it and put fresh fluid in, went with Mobil 1 75W140 LS.

Took it for a drive and the brakes work great. Followed the directions for breaking in the emergency brake which worked fine.

Now the problem is I'm getting rattling from possibly all of the wheels. Definitely from the front driver and at least one of the rear wheels. It was so dark I didn't get a chance to look at it I just pulled it back in driveway.

I'll start looking at things tomorrow but, any common mistakes or things I should check first?

Prius (2001-03) :: Only Rear Brakes Engage When Pedal Pressed

I purchased a 2001 Prius with 123K miles about two weeks ago. I knew the HV battery was shot when i purchased it. I decided to see if I could rebuild the HV battery on my own.

I'm very mechanical but not the brightest bulb in the room when it comes to batteries and anything electrical.

So here is where I'm at so far:

- I removed the HV battery.

- safely rested it on 2 horses (I used horses because it would give me easy access to the bottom to remove the bottom screws)

- Removed all 38 modules from the battery pack

- cleaned the busses in vinegar

- inspected each wire that connects between buss and the nut.

- tested each battery ( one of the batteries tested at -0.1, the others tested at 6.8)

- I don't know how to load test the modules, so I couldn't tell if they would drop dramatically under load, so I ordered 38 used replacement batteries off of Ebay. (Gen II)

- these replacement modules were about a half inch longer than my original modules.

- The replacement modules arrived. I cleaned the terminals, tested each one and installed them.

- Connected the battery back into the prius.

- Installed new 12V battery from the Toyota dealer.

- The Prius started right up.

- Drove it around for the first time for about 10 minutes.

- When i was driving it, the monitor in the Prius would show the engine running most of the time but sometimes it would show it charging the HV and other times charging the 12V. the engine would shut off at stop lights and resume when I pressed on the gas pedal.

- while driving back into my driveway, all of the warning lights came on and the battery fan kicked into high gear,

- I can't remember the code I pulled but it was in reference to the cells being out of balance I think. I'll have to check it again tonight when I get home.

- I removed the HV and tightened the nuts around the busses hoping the issue would be resolved.

- I was able to drive it only a few minutes before the issue returned.

other issues I noticed.

While waiting for the replacement batteries to arrive, I did the following:

- changed the cabin filter

- did an oil change.

- changed the tranny fluid and removed the tranny pan to clean out the slime and clean off the magnet.)

- changed the rear brake shoes.

- changed the front brake rotors and pads. ( they were in awful condition due to sitting so long)

***when I pressed on the brakes, only the rear brakes seem to engage, not the front. I never attempted to bleed them because I know only the dealer can do that)
