Celica :: 2001 Crank Slowly - Changed Battery But After 1-2 Seconds Engine Dies

2001 Celica, battery dead after seeming to crank more slowly each time it was started during the day (wife was driving). I disconnected the battery to charge/test it, after reconnecting it started immediately but after 1-2 seconds engine dies. RPMs can be coaxed up to 3,000 in that time, but even though it seems to be running fine it shuts completely off, no coughing or sputtering. Won't start at all unless key is turned off and then back on, then it will do the same as described above.

It's giving a P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction No. 1 error code. Possible causes listed are:

- Ignition Coil No. 1 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil No. 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition Coil No. 1
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Seems to me a lot like the last, the ECM.

Ford - Escort :: 1998 - Run For About 15 - 30 Seconds Then Slowly Idles Down And Dies

Iv got this escort from my sister, i assume it has been hardly maintained considering the... state. I bought it because she was tired of dealing with the problem... driving, it will turn off. She said it got to the point where she just stopped driving it, although it only happened twice. It began when first time it shuttered then died. Took air filter off and it only ran it like that to get it home. Now it doesn't run but for a few seconds even without air filter, so Its the best choice to leave in.

Anyway, I've replaced:

-PCV Valve
-Fuel Filter
-Some dry-rotted hoses
-I didn't replace it, but i cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor in the intake.

I've tested alternator and batter, both are good. I tried fuel treatment. Being honest this is the extent of my.. automotive understanding. But Im fairly certain it is a fuel system problem.

Nissan - Sentra :: 1999 - Airbag Light Flashing / Battery Slowly Dies

I’ve been having a bit of a problem with my 99 Nissan Sentra that is becoming more and more costly every day. It started with my airbag light flashing, so I pulled over to see what might be wrong. I turned the car off, and when I went to start it again it wouldn’t start. I had the battery checked out and it was fine; I ended up changing the starter and the ignition switch. This worked for a week. Later I left my car running in the morning to warm it up, and it did the same thing, the airbag light came on and the battery went dead.

I jumped it and the battery wore itself out again, so this time I took it to the mechanic to replace the alternator. This worked for a week. This time my wife was driving down the highway, the airbag light came on again, and the battery went dead. After a costly tow from the police impound to my home, it will jump, but the battery slowly dies. The only noticeable problems the car has (aside from the obvious battery going dead) is that there is a belt that squeals when I have the air conditioner turned on and I have an oil leak somewhere.

Celica :: 2000 GTS Won't Crank From Its Own Battery

It's a 2000 Celica gts 6sp manual and it won't crank from its own battery. The alternator and battery are both fine. It cranks and drives fine when jumped from another car, but the dash lights wont even come on unless it's being jumped even after having the battery tested and freshly charged. Could a lost ground or a short cause this?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Car Turns Off Slowly / Taking About 5 Seconds Or So To Wind Down And Stop

New post for a better problem. It was a hot day today in vegas, but my santa fe was running at normal temp (I double checked with my analyzer), running great. When I got home I turned the key off and took it out of the ignition, all the electrics went out (lights, gauges, etc.) yet the car was still running. It took about 5 seconds or so for it to wind down and stop.

2001 Santa Fe, 2.7ltr, 120,000 mi., 2 wheel drive, great shape, no codes.

1997 Jimmy, 4.3 ... This has gone on for two years and over two grand. I am slowly going insane. When it starts, it runs GREAT...but if it is moist outside, it is not going to happen...can crank it til the battery dies. I have replaced: spark plugs, fuel pump, MAF Sensor, distributor cap and rotor, stupid poppet fuel injection, battery x 2, and the ignition switch. It used to pull a random misfire code, but now has NO codes. I have been through five garages and four really good at home mechanics. When it is not starting, it has spark at the plugs and good fuel pressure. Last mechanic wanted to do a second fuel pump with the new injection system...I swear I think it is because I am a girl.

Celica :: 2001 GTS Won't Crank All The Way Over And Smells Like Gas In Oil

I just had the engine rebuilt on my 2001 Toyota Celica GTS (2zz engine) also had a new crankshaft put in new battery, alternator, and starter. For the first 20 miles I had no issues. I get up the next day and my car won't crank all the way over and it smells like gas in in the oil/engine chamber what could possibly be wrong is there a way I can get it to start to take it to Toyota to have them check out.

Toyota - Celica :: 2001 Dies Every Time When Fill The Tank With Gas

I just had the engine in my 2001 Toyota Celica replaced with a rebuild at 145,000 miles (the original engine was burning oil). It runs fine but now every time I fill the tank with gas and start the car it runs for about 15 seconds then dies. This goes on about four times then it runs fine. After the initial dying eposoide the car runs fine until i fill-up again (i usually fill-up when i have avout 1/4 tank left). Before the engine replacement I had no problem like this. The mechanic thought the problem was the fuel pump and replace it and the filter and inspected the tank for debris. I am still having the problem

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Truck Starts Then Dies A Few Seconds Later And Battery Light Illuminates

This is concerning my little brothers truck. It is a 2008 4.2 liter with around 55,000 miles on it.

He drove it to work today, and called me this afternoon saying that the truck starts then dies a few seconds later, and the battery light illuminates. He and a coworker checked the battery and connections....cleaned off corrosion on terminals, battery reads 12.xx volts without a load on it, it is the original though.

As of right now he is changing the fuel filter which hasn't been done yet. I also know of issues with the fuel pump driver module. I remember checking the one on my 2005 back when I owned it. As I recall it causes a no start condition, but would it cause a start then stop condition like this? He will check this when he is done with the filter.

Anything else that we can check in a parking lot to try and at least get it home?

Prius (2001-03) :: Dies After Being On For 5 Seconds

I haven't driven the Prius for months. The other day, I needed it and tried to start it up but of course, it was dead. I should have known that would happen but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to these things.

So, I jumped it with another car, making sure not to reverse the polarity by doing it wrong (I think I did okay) and sure enough it started...for about 5 seconds and then died. The car we were using to jump it was on just like the manual said and we pushed it to 2,000 RPM again, just like the manual said. We tried it again and it comes on for about 5 seconds and then goes right back off. We even juiced it for about 3 minutes straight at 2,000 RPM and same result.

The display comes on and the icon with a car and an exclamation mark is red. What should I do? I guess the v12 battery is dead?

I've got a 2002 Ford Sports Trac that won't start ! It will crank till battery dies but is not getting fuel. I have had it towed 4 times in the past year. of the 4 times,this last time it wont start. Every time that I have had it towed back to my house and dropped in the driveway it has started up with no problems. It will run for a few months or more.This last time it would not.

Could this be an electrical problem.Maybe loose ground somewhere or something else. Would like to rule out some things before investing in a fuel filter or fuel pump. Would hate to buy new FuelPump and that not be the problem. Can't find free wiring diaghrams for this issue.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Changed Injectors / Cannot Even Get Engine To Crank?

I changed my injectors and glow plugs on passenger side. I tried to start the engine and it wont crank (turn over). I tried to turn over by hand by turning alternator bolt counter clockwise, turns a little bit and then get very difficult. Is this hydro lock? I stuck a suction tube down injector holes and made it to the piston not much oil came out, I think the truck was a little low on oil before I started the project. The starter wont turn the engine over. I even turned the engine over by hand many times before I put glow plugs in to evacuate the cylinders. I don't know what to do?

Celica :: 1992 - The Engine Dies With Stroke On Accelerator

I am repairing a 1992 Celica GT w/2.2 litre I4. Just replaced the TPS. Now, it will only idle. Any caressing of the accelerator, and the engine dies. Will idle smooth as glass for abt 5-10 minutes, then begin idling rough, and then die. Will not allow me to restart immediately after it dies. Must wait 10-15 minutes before restarting. When the vehicle is placed in gear, it will continue to run, but the moment the accel. is pressed, the engine dies.

I think part of it may be vacuum-related.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Battery Draining Slowly When Powered Off

2001 Elantra, Going good now apart from the fact its draining the battery slowly overnight when powered off, I've hooked up an amp meter with everything powered off and still its drawing around half an amp, Is there any known faults that could cause this or any tricks for finding this kind of fault or do i have a hunt on my hands?? Not sure if this is related or not but when driving an intermittent clicking sound can be heard from inside the driver door.

Problem with car: When pressing on the gas, the idle drops and then the car dies (a scary event that happened to us and on a main road). I do not wish to bring it to another fail mechanic shop.What the shops did: changed all fluids, distributor cap and plugs, new spark plugs, and replaced air intake piping with oem piping.

Celica :: Oil Lamp Stays On For 2 Seconds After Turning Engine On

I rebuild my celica st182 end grinding(I'm not sure if that's the word) the crankshaft I put 1st repair bearings. Rebuild head and put new oil pump(from e-bay). I bought Eneos 15w40.After 1000km oil pressure lamp began to go off after 2 sec after I start the engine. That starts just when weather temperature rises to 30'C.Today I changed the oil filter and there was no leak from it(empty). What is the problem -oil filter.oil pump,crankshaft gaps or bad oil. When I tried to cut the ignition cable and run starter the oil lamp goes off(warm car). If the car is warm and turn off the engine and started it again lamp goes off immediately. If stays about 4 hours lamp goes off after 2 sec. Tomorrow I'll warm the engine and measure the oil pressure.

Jeep - Cherokee :: 2001 - Starting After Crank For 20 To 30 Seconds And Idling Rough

Pretty soon this thing's gonna have ALL new parts and STILL running rough! The Jeep has about 40K on a Jasper motor, 175K on everything else. I was experiencing starting issues (crank for 20-30 seconds), and noticed a P0171 code on my odometer (O2 sensor?) so off to my mechanic. He replaced two O2 sensors, no change. New code read MAP sensor, replaced, no change.

Finally, changed Fuel Pump in tank (Fuel filter was changed 2 months ago), still no change. I tried starting it tonight by turning the key 5-10 sec. to prime gas, started but still rough at idle. Runs strong above idle 1500-2000RPM. Mechanic can't check fuel pressure at rails? for some reason. My next thoughts were spark plugs and vacuum lines...

2001 Ford Excursion 7.3 will run barely for about 20 sec. shudders, then dies. Bought new, driven 334K miles. Performed the usual fixes common to 7.3 issues over the years. All original injectors except for #7 which I replaced about 5 yrs ago. (I know should have replaced in sets but not in the budget at the time). Anyway had my wife turn the engine over after I had removed valve covers for inspection and observed a lot of smoke coming out of what appears to be at or around number 7 rocker arm valley? All rocker arm/pushrods look to be moving as they should beyond that I'm in over my head. Am I screwed or could it possibly just be a bad injector/injectors?

Ford Fuel System :: Engine Runs For 10 Seconds Then Dies

I have an 84 Bronco II with a fuel injected 302 in it. I was out wheeling with it the other day, and it was doing great until about 3:00. I got out to see that my brothers radiator had sprung a leak. When I got back in my Bronco and put it in gear, it just stalled. I started it back up and it ran for about 10 seconds then shut off. It kept doing that over and over again. Finally, I got tired of it and had someone get my truck and tow me out of there. Why would it run for about 10-15 seconds only and then shut off like it was getting no fuel (yes, it does have fuel in it)? I have a feeling it might be fuel pressure regulator valve because it was acting up a while ago..
