My corolla odometer is adding miles faster than usual all of a sudden. getting about 1.4 miles instead of just one mile. the car has 250,000 miles on it now... What can I do to adjust it, replace it, or what?
Also, when should rear brake drums be replaced. My bearings are bad so should I replace the drums too?
My speedometer decided to quit working this morning. The odometer is lit up but its not adding miles as I drive.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2000 Corolla CE (4-spd auto) and today had to merge in fast moving traffic....the engine hit about 4000rpm for about 2 seconds or so and then dropped back down to 2800 and eventually 2300.
Not sure what the redline is for the 2000 corolla, but I'm guessing that hitting it especially when under load is bad even for a few seconds?
My 2000 corolla has consistently gotten 35 MPG until last month, suddenly I've dropped to 18-20 miles per gallon, a friend suggested fuel filter fail, but i can't discern if it has an external one...
View 11 RepliesI am trying to diagnose a problem with a friends 2002 f350 7.3L truck. the engine has approx. 140,000 miles and is all stock, no programming or aftermarket parts. Anyhow, he said driving down the road the other day the engine all of a sudden lost power and the truck wouldn't go any faster than 45mph. he said taking off from a stop sign, the truck has no power and takes forever to get up to 45mph. after this issue began, he has changed the fuel filter & screen, air filter and fuel pump. The check engine light if OFF, no active fault codes.

While driving, I experienced a sudden bog down and inability to travel faster than 20 - 25 MPH. The more pedal you give, the less power. In neutral, free revs will not go above 3000 RPM at full pedal and will rise and fall between 2000 - 3000 RPM. The next day all is normal again. This happened twice now and I am not sure why. No CEL, no stored codes.
Plenty of pressure (felt by hand only) out the tail pipe except when fluctuating during free revs. There doesn't appear to be any vacuum leaks. What I can check to correct this? Could it be bad fuel or water in fuel?
I recently bought this Ford F250 6 with 117k... I've had it 3 weeks and it is now at 120k... My Odometer is reading Fast. From Tucson to Phoenix it read 302 mi, on my trip monitor it read 102 mi.. I've made this trip many times before and 102 miles is about right. It's a big issue because I get paid by the mile.
View 13 RepliesA few months ago I had the oil changed in my 06 Passat and they forgot to reset the service engine display. When I stopped by later, the regular guy was not there so the mechanic tried to reset it...after which , when the car starts moving, the odometer disappears and is replaced with the speed in kilometers. Nothing important, the trip odometer is still there but I think I would prefer the original setting.How to get my miles back?

I have 2 detectors and they are both not show the same speed compare to the speed odometer. For example, I am going 70mph, the detector reads like 67-68mph. So the speed odometer is off about 2-3mph. I have OEM size on my car. I know the GPS on my detector is more accurate. So my speed odometer has problem?
View 14 RepliesI have a 4 cylinder 2003. When we drive on the street less than 40 miles per hour all is fine. But when we go faster than 40 a bad vibration starts and gets worse the faster we go, but only when you step on the gas pedal. For example, if your doing 50 and step on the gas there is a bad vibration from the front but if you release the gas pedal there is no vibration.
View 5 RepliesMy 07 has 149K on it and I never have checked the oil. I do have it changed every 5K and no one has ever mentioned it coming in low. My last oil change was at 145K and about 2000 miles later the master warning light would come on when I slowed down fast, especially if there was a turn. I noticed this on the twisties driving up the west coast. The problem then went away after a couple hundred miles. Then recently it started doing it again and so I checked my fluid levels everywhere just in cast that might be throwing the warning light and found my dipstick was bone dry.
I am surprised the warning was so general. Why not an oil light? or an oil pressure warning? WHen the master light came on, the screen just said "problem". Kinda vague for such a specific and important matter. My guess is that the oil got so low that the oil pump sucked some air due to the acceleration when cornering or stopping. (negative acceleration).
My question is what would make it start using oil suddenly. True I didn't check it b4 so I have nothing to compare it to, but as we all know, the Prii do not use much oil and if in fact it was so low that it was sucking air 2000 miles after an oil change, they either forgot to add oil or else it started using the 1 qt/ 600 miles that the owners manual tries to tell us is normal. I seriously doubt they shorted me on the last change. BTW I added some oil ....

So, VAGCOM can adjust the odometer from miles to kilometers? Also, any info on where I might be able to get a instrument cluster in kph?
I have a 2011 Camry LE. I took it to have the oil changed today. The odometer was around 46,000 miles and that's what the service guy put in the computer. After the service was completed, the guy leaned in the car and had me turn the keys 2 clicks while he pressed the odometer button to reset the oil change light. It took him a few tries before he said "ok, got it." Afterwards, I noticed the odometer was reading 40,000. I showed it to him, and he had no explanation for what happened. Neither did anyone else that worked there. I called my local Toyota and they had never heard of that happening.

I have a 2004 Nissan Quest SE. We were on a trip and drove 15 hours to Florida which was a 870 mile trip. We had 104,440 miles on the van when we left, validated by the dealer service records and our own notes to track MPG. We arrived in FL and didn't notice the odometer. The van remained parked for 4 days. Upon leaving, we noticed it had 115,310 miles on the odometer. Upon checking the trip computer (setting 1), it did not reflect this 10k mile gain. The trip computer also didn't reflect a change in MPG with the additional 10k miles. The trip computer (setting 2) hasn't been reset in a very long time as we don't use it. and continued to show a total mileage just over 4k miles, therefore, also not reflecting this 10k mile gain in the odometer.What would cause this jump of 10k miles on the odometer?

I called GMC and was told the odometer is a new "tamper proof" one and it cannot be stopped from recording miles when the wheels are turning. Is there a 'work-around' that would solve this problem?

View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Toyota Camry with 110,000 miles that is burning oil too fast. A farm mechanic told me I should put thicker oil in it- straight SAE 30. It is a 4 cyl, 2.4 L Automatic. I had a oil and filter change less than 2 months ago, have driven maybe 2,000 miles. The oil is below the first dot. The manufacturer says to put 5W 20 oil in. I live in central North Carolina, so below freezing temperatures aren’t an issue. Last oil and filter change, they checked for leaks and they said it was clean underneath with none. Also, is it possible the car is burning the oil fast because I live in a warmer climate and I’m using the thinner oil? Is it ok to put the thicker straight SAE 30 oil in it? If yes, can I add it to what’s already there (5w 20)?
