Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: P2290 Code - Chugging At Operating Temp And Sometimes Even Die While Driving

Feb 20, 2016

I have a 2007 F250 6.0 L with 116000 miles. I have never done any modifications or changed anything on the truck. Now that the weather is starting to warm up I've noticed that once the truck is at operating temperature it starts to chug and sometimes even die while driving and while its doing this the truck has no power. It does not seem to do it when its cold. Here is a picture of my gauges KOEO operating temp at idle...

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Code P2290 - Injector Control Pressure Too Low

I just did a bunch of work on my 6.0. Here's a list- head gaskets, arp studs, new heads, 2 new injectors, updated stand pipes and dummy plugs, water pump, and all new injector o-rings. After messing around with a bent pushrod, cylinder 5 code and and replacing injectors the truck runs excellent. After driving it a bit I get a code "P2290 injector control pressure too low". The truck runs great with no low power, stalls, or hard start cold or hot. I do puff black smoke but that's because of the sct tuner on performance tune.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Code P2290 - Start But No Power

Long story behind it but finally got my scanner working right and checked the suggested systems for p2290.

IPR was 77+ on start up dropped to around 31 at idle

FMP is in the 46.5 to 47.5 range

SYC was at 1 and occasionally at 1.5

ICP was at 550-650 during startup and quickly ramped up to 1150 then settled into around 850 at idle.

The only thing that I'm not sure of is the IPR being 31 at idle, is that what it should be. The others I think are within normal operating parameters.

The truck starts but has no power. Can barely go up a slight hill on my street. Seems like it's going to be fine but as soon as I apply a little gas it just falls off.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: No Boost - P2290 Code For Low Injection Control Pressure

My 05 excursion died on me a couple weeks ago. First it threw a p2290 code for low injection control pressure. It did this a few months ago and had no problems. Cleared code and did not come back until now. So I cleared the code. Drove a few more miles and lost all boost pressure. Still fires up and runs. It does run a bit rough but only a little bit.

I replaced the oil cooler, did egr delete, and put an IPR remote oil cooler and full flow coolant filter on it few months ago. Since it died i pulled the ipr valve and it looked good. I put a new screen o-rings, and wiring pigtail on it since it was out. Put back together and still no boost. I really did not figure that would fix the boost issue but i wanted to make sure the screen was not clogged or torn.

Truck will fire up cold and warm with no problem and run. The hose from the map sensor to manifold is good and i put new clamps on it.

2005 6.0 with 95,000 miles.
ICP duty cycle = 0.29
map kpa = 102
Injection control pressure = 5.91 MPA

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: AC Blow Cold For 10 Minutes Until Everything Is Up To Normal Operating Temp

When I fire her up, the AC will blow cold for 10ish minutes until everything is up to normal operating temperature. Then it tends to blow warm, and that last for about 20 minutes, before finally settling back down and being cold AC again. I initially thought it was an issue with my compressor disengaging, but it doesn't seem to be...

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F350 - Truck Not Starting When At Operating Temp

The other day, I started having problems with the truck not starting when at operating temp. Went for a drive and stopped a a scenic overlook, and spent about 30 minutes taking pictures. Went back to the truck, and it wouldn't start. Outside temp was about 95 degrees.

I tried for about half an hour to start it, but all it would do is turn over. There was a work crew there with their heavy machinery, and I was able to borrow their starting fluid. One quick squirt into the intake, and it fired right up.

Although I do have an oil leak from the right valve cover, when I checked the oil, it was just off the full mark. The truck was parked on a slight angle with the driver side being about a foot higher than the passenger side.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 F350 - Poor Acceleration When Engine Is At Operating Temp

I have a 04 f350 6.0 with about 195xxx miles on it. The other day my truck started acting up. It starts and idles without a problem and drives fine till the engine gets to operating temp once there I cannot accelerate quickly like getting onto the highway to get up to speed it just the motor just goes quiet and won't accelerate. It usually does this a little after 2000 rpm. I can let off the throttle and slowly get to speed as long as I don't go past 2000 rpm. No check engine light was not on scanned it and got p0611 for the ficm. I tested the ficm and it read 48v with key on. While truck was running I got 46.xx v then Started to climb to almost 48v. The truck was warm but not at operating temp where the problems starts(didn't have time to let it warm up all the way) could these symptoms be the ficm still? What else should I test?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: P1260 And P2290 Codes / Oil Leak On Driver Side

Earlier this week, I had the p1260 pop up. Then while driving to the beach, I had the p2290 pop up. I do not actually have a check engine light on, but used my torque app to find the codes. I have found a oil leak on the driver side coming from somewhere. I have a mishimoto thermostat coming in next week. I will try to collect parts needed for this repair. From my understanding, it's a hpop leak and the adrenaline and stc fitting should be my next move.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Long Crank Start And No Oil Pressure When Warm - Codes P2290 And P2291

As the title says I am suddenly having a long crank when starting and low oil pressure when when warm (above approximately 100 degrees). IPR goes to 85% when cranking. Stored codes were P2290 and P2291. Other symptoms are low power and what sounds like a power steering pump with low oil whine and low power. (It is not power steering related however, I checked.) I pulled the oil filter and cranked engine and filter bowl filled in less than 10 seconds.

Oil did have a fair bit of air bubbles. Oil has 5000 miles and is Motorcraft 10w30 diesel. I have not added any since the last change. I do not have the new style pump so it's not the STC fitting. What my issue is? I do have AE if any other info is required. Particulars are in sig. The searches I have done combined with the mileage I have lead me to either the low pressure pump is failing, or the high pressure pump has lost the ball bearing out of the side.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2007 - Chugging White Smoke / Smelled Like Unburnt Diesel

2007 6.0 6 speed, 187,000 miles. The other day started truck, had been running about 20 minutes before. Started fine, go to drive, chugging white smoke, smelled like unburnt diesel, baby truck home, seemed to run ok at low rpm, truck warmed up and ran fine. But I also noticed turbo boost was acting funny. Truck ran fine next few days. Then this morning, started cold fine, started to drive it and same chugging white smoke, it quit by the time j got to the end of my driveway, but drove to work, it quit smoking, ran pretty smooth, but will not build any boost. Truck is bone stock except for exhaust, it's straight piped. Ok. So this eve I borrowed my dads edge cts, here's all the engine codes:

P0069
P0269
P0299
P2262
P2269

The last one is water in fuel, since it started this crap I did notice it was right after it came on in the dash. I'm trying to figure out where to start....

On another note. VGT duty shows 85% at idle ?
Ficm voltage is constant 48 volts

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2015 - Code P0073 For Ambient Air Temp Sensor Circuit High

I'm excited to be a Powerstroke owner again! I had a 2000 with the 7.3L and since bought and now sold a Chevy 1500. Last week I bought a new 2015 6.7L. I am MORE than impressed and love the truck. Today I brought it to get the windows tinted. I have not had one issue with the truck since I have had it. When they finished with the windows, my check engine light was on. The shop I had it done it EXTREMELY reputable. They brought out their snap on scanner and pulled the code. p0073 for the ambient air temp sensor circuit high. Is this a coincidence that this came on after they got done, or could something they did while tinting the windows tripped this?

As I drove off down the road after determining I wasn't going to hurt the truck, the air temp sensor went from showing -40 to the actual temperature. What would cause this? I deleted the code when I got home with my actron, and the MIL has stayed off since, however, it shows P0073 Permanent ...

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Check Engine Light Came On / Code P0181 Fuel Temp Sensor

Just over 6000 miles....Yesterday morning the light came on. Dealer wouldn't look at it for a week. Went to my mechanic this morning to check the code it was p0181 fuel temp sensor. I read something online about the block heater making it too warm. The other night it was cold so I plugged it in, then yesterday morning it got warm overnight like into the lower 40s. I noticed the grill felt warm too. My mechanic cleared it if it comes back on do I have an issue? Is it ok to drive?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Hesitation / Chugging And Bad Smoke

So lately I have been having issues with my 6.0 smoking, hesitating, and chugging. It seems worse when the vehicle has been idling for a minute or two (as in at a red light) and when I depress the accelerator it starts to move, but chugs and sputters, spurting light gray smoke, then the boost hits hard, the truck surges forward, leaving a massive cloud of smoke behind, then seems to run fine until I come to a stop again. I got the usual EGR codes, so I cleared the codes, pulled and cleaned the EGR valve of all built up soot and carbon, and reinstalled it. It seemed to run okay again right after doing that work on it, but then started acting up again this afternoon.

Shot the same codes for EGR (P0404, P1335). I cleared them again, and it continues to drive like crap. Other than EGR that I can look into? Or will I need to pull and clean the valve again tomorrow when the sun is up? At first I was thinking I might also be having fuel injector stiction issues, possibly turbo vane stiction issues, maybe FICM issues, but it's only feeding me codes for EGR.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Truck Started Chugging Like Going To Die And Had No Power

First post since I bought my powerstroke. I was looking for some diagnostics.

On my way to work this morning and the truck started chugging like it was wanting to die and had no power, the pedal was to the floor and I was barely moving. I was able to nurse it to a parking space at work and pulled the codes, using the Torque pro. This was what I pulled:

P0284 - Cylinder #8 contribution/balance
P0299 - Underboost
P0611 - FICM
P0401 - EGR
P0671 - Cylinder 1 glow plug

On the way home I didn't even hit 5 miles and started into the same symptoms. So I decided to call for a tow, because my commute is about 60 miles one way. In waiting for the tow truck I disconnected the batteries and reconnected them thinking that it might "reset" something. I started it up and the same thing occurred, so I tried revving it up, and starting it up and shutting it down on and off for about an hour. Thinking I picked up some bad fuel. Drove it for a short distance and found things were getting better. I was able to make it home and pulled the codes again. It came up with these:

P0284
P0603 - Internal Control Mod.
P0611
P1000

Also on the ride home I had excessive amounts of black smoke from the exhaust and found a couple of large drops of oil on the driveway where i normally park, larger than what I normally see.

So my question would be what is the cause of all of this?

A little about the truck. it is a F250 CCSB with about 139xxx miles on the clock. I bought it from my brother when he had it he had the FICM replaced (with the 58V option) and the Bullet proof EGR installed. I replaced the fuel spring with the blue one shortly after I bought it.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: While Driving F250 Start Chugging / Lose Power And Shut Off

I have a 99 F 250 7.3. It runs fine at idle even for a long time. When I drive around the block a couple of times it will start chugging and lose power and shut off. I have been mixing fryer oil with the diesel. I changed the fuel filter, oil change, crank sensor and fuel pump. I added 15 gallons of diesel and diesel treatment. Pulled fuel filter and bowel is full I'm not sure where to look next.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: No Power At Operating Temperature?

This is my wife's daily driver so I've got to get it done this weekend. 05 Excursion with 04 motor, 95,xxx miles. No problems until Friday. My wife drove to Seattle for a physical therapy appointment for my daughter and when leaving she said it felt like it was idling a little weird. She was at a stop light and when it turned green she could barely move, no power. Called me and everything sounded good from the Edge. Had the truck towed from Seattle to our house, about 60 miles. Idles really rough in drive, smooth's out a bit when in neutral. Starts totally fine when cold or hot, but doesn't start acting up until at working temp. When I say there is no power I mean the truck won't even pull up our drive way that only has a slight incline and is the length of the Excursion.

Only code I get is a P1000, but that is always on the tuner for some reason. I pulled the upper fuel filter and I'm getting fuel. Checked all the fittings I can see and nothing electrical seems out of the ordinary. New IPR and ICP within the last year. Tried disconnecting the EGR and it ran the same, but threw a P0403 and P0405 code. I've tried researching this and can't seem to find anything having to do with loss of power when hot. Sitting in the street in front of the house with the truck running I show an ICP of 750psi IPR of 28% @ 680 RPM VGT is 64.6 and MAF is 44.0. I can hear the turbo whistle, but show 0 boost which I think is normal when no load. I tried pulling into the drive when at temp and the truck was hitting 1000 rpm with pedal to the floor and wouldn't move, shaking and rough the entire time. Before all this my delta on EOT and ECT were under 5*

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Misfire / Chugging Usually At A Stop Light?

I've got an '04 6.0 that's recently developed an engine performance issue and I was hoping to get some leads on what to chase down this weekend. The truck has 75,000 miles on it and has been trouble-free since new when it comes to the motor. Recently I've noticed that, usually at a stop light, the idle will occasionally get very rough and the normal diesel "clatter" noise becomes rather rough sounding- almost like every other "clatter" disappears if that makes any sense. Up until last night this was happening very infrequently and usually only for a couple of seconds. I wasn't really sure what the issue was then and would rev the truck in neutral and the issue would go away. This has happened a handful of times in the last month or so.

I drive a company car all week and the truck only gets used in the evenings and on the weekends, and last night my wife and I drove it to dinner. The truck cranked and started normally and was operating smoothly until we got out of our neighborhood (about a mile of driving), then the rough running condition described above surfaced and continued throughout the 7 or 8 mile drive. This was the first time that it ran like this for more than a few seconds. The truck was running bad enough that you could feel the misfire or 'chugging' at speed. When the truck would shift into overdrive and the torque converter went into full lock-up, you could really feel this as the engine was lugging. I tried to keep the truck out of overdrive because it was shaking the truck pretty badly. When we came out of the restaurant I thought maybe the issue would be gone but it did it all the way home as well. Throughout both drives the Check Engine Light did not come on.

When I got home I got my DiabloSport Predator because I remembered it has a code scanner in it. I have never checked for codes before so I do not know if these are fresh codes, but there is a P0282 Cyl 8 Injector Circuit Low and a P1000 OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete in there.

While I was in the driveway with the engine idling badly for a few minutes, the issue completely went away and the truck smoothed out for a few minutes. It was like someone flipped a switch and the truck instantly ran properly. After a couple of minutes however, the issue instantly returned. I tried to clear the codes with the Predator but they will not go away. I am not sure how solid of a scan tool the Predator is????

I did a lot of searching on here last night because this is bugging me, and the symptoms I saw on here about the ICP sensor make total sense based on what I am experiencing. People were describing to a 'T' what I am experiencing. However, I do not have an ICP sensor code and when I searched for the P0282 that I do have I read about FICM issues here.

The rundown on the truck- '04 F-250 CC 4x4, truck was bought 10-03 and I THINK I remember the build date as 9/03 (maybe 8/03). Automatic transmission, DiabloSport Predator with 60hp tune, MBRP turbo-back exhaust, everything else stock. Oil was changed about 4,000 miles ago, both fuel filters done about 2,500 miles ago.

A few questions:

Could the ICP be my issue even though there is no code for it? Could the P0282 be coming from an ICP issue?

I've read about early '04 trucks having '03 motors and something about an updated harness for the ICP- could I get more info?

Is my truck part of the affected group with the wire-chafing I read a little about? If so, could that be causing this and what should I look for?

Does the P0282 immediately point to a FICM issue?

I have put a trickle charger on the battery on the drivers side, and plan to leave it on for an hour or so.
