I have 2003 f250 6.0, had the turbo rebuilt and I put it back in, my turbo is whistling but I'm also getting a humming noise kinda sounds like a when u down shift at high rpm's idk what's going on, I try and power break as well to build up boost and the tires do not even spin...
View 4 RepliesSo I just purchased my first diesel a couple weeks ago (2003 f250 Lariat). I love it! However, I'm having concerns about my turbo whistle on it. At idle and while in higher RPMs is sounds ridiculously loud (even at 0 PSI in the boost). I've been doing my research on it and I know the 03's have the loudest sounding turbos because they have less vanes than the later models. I know without a video it's going to be hard to diagnose, but I am wondering if a loose boot would cause a turbo whining sound through the exhaust? I have yet to hear ANY other diesel in person that has a turbo whine as loud as mine.
View 14 RepliesFor a while now, I have been hearing a very high pitch whistle noise from the turbo/exhaust area. Everybody told me it was an exhaust leak, but I never could pin point the leak. While I was under the truck last weekend I found the flex joint on the passenger side up pipe was broken a leaking.
I ordered a Dorman replacement pipe that comes with a new gasket and hardware.
I will be the first to admit, I am not a fan of Dorman parts... BUT, this pipe is really nice. It looks identical to the pipe being sold on Dieselsite.com, it doesn't have the scoop inside to direct exhaust gas to the EGR cooler and it comes with all the mounting hardware.

Once I got the turbo down pipe out of the way and soaked the bolts with penetrating oil, I had the broken up pipe off in 30 minutes.
The last few weeks, I have been hearing a whistling/whooshing noise on WOT when going to pass someone.
It is coming from the right side of the engine compartment between the turbo and firewall.
At least that is where it sounds like. I have no clue how to verify that driving it. What to check?
Stuck turbo and high deltas so I replaced the oil cooler, coolant, thermostat, rebuilt turbo. Etc etc. Now I'm getting p2284/p2285 intermittently. Upon inspection ICP looks great at idle and 2500. IPR at hot idle is 20.9 but when you run it up to 2500, it drops to 14.7 and after a few seconds hpop at idle jumps to 875 and I get the p2284/2285. Bad IPR?
View 14 RepliesI've got a 2011 F350 Lariat crew cab and when i get up to 75 mph with a cross wind, there is a whistling noise. it sounds like a turbulent whistle as if its blowing across the ribbed portion down by the wipers. I tried to get audio but for some reason my phone wont pick up the noise, but its extremely loud at times. Sometimes it will wake up the kids if they're napping in the back seat.
View 14 RepliesFor a month or two now my truck has been making a squeal and the turbo has been sticking after hard acceleration. The sticking was a woebegone unison ring and I was hoping the squeal would be resolved when I cleaned the turbo but it didn't, in fact, it got worse.
It used to be occasionally and go away after warming up, but now it's more constant than not. It goes away when the VGT does its idle cycle and once you get up to speed.

I literally just got this truck 1 week ago. '05 6.0 F250. I have read numerous other threads and have not found an answer. I will start from the beginning.
I was driving on the hwy and once the engine is hot and I am over 55mph the truck feels like it wants to stall. The rpms drop and come right back up. Its like a 'hiccup'. If it starts to act up and I pull over it remains at idle and not stall. Once i get back on the hwy IF I go over 55mph the truck will stall and I will not be able to start until cool.
After doing some reading through the forums I replaced the IPR on the HPOP.
I tested the high pressure oil system. I took off the valve covers and tested both the right and left side individually, with the IPR valve open and close; cannot find a leak.
I took the fitting off of the top of the HPOP and tested with air there as well. I only hear air out of the weep hole in the back behind the gear on the pump.
I took the oil pump off and charged the branch tube with air, no leaks.
I checked all the dummy plugs. They have been already replaced with the upgraded ones and the orings all looked good.
I took the upper half of the standpipes out - look good, orings looked good. I was unable to get the lower half of the standpipe out on the passenger side due to the air box and the driver side only the top half came out when unscrewed from the oil rail.
I put it all back together with 2 new batteries.
I started it, (started cold), drove it 25 miles and it stalled, let it cool down and it started. Drove it 20 more miles and I pulled into a parking lot and I shut it off, and it started right back up 3 times. When it shut it off on the highway I unplugged the ICP sensor and it did NOT start.
It runs fine until I go over 55mph then I am getting the same stall issue. I can drive it around under 50mph and have no issues. I drove it under 50mph and shut it off a total of 3 times and it started back up no problem. If I drive it over 55mph rpm gauge drops and then comes right back up and IF it stalls I cannot start until it cools. Once it stalls out, If I try to crank on it, my IPR is 84.8% IPC - 99-120.
I am using a Scanguage II at idle:
ICP - 18.5
IPR - 585
FMP - 47.5
My FICM Voltage stays between 12.5 - 13.0 while running.
I have a 2011 that does not currently have the complete factory exhaust system on it and no muffler. With the nice weather I have been driving around with the windows down and hear a noise out of the exhaust that sounds like tires spinning on wet pavement when I let off the throttle or at some shifts of the transmission. Boost seems normal, and don't hear any noise while under load. I think it is just the VGT closing and making the noise. With deleted sys heard this noise in exhaust?

View 14 RepliesMy 6.7 makes a humming noise when i shut down my engine. Starts a little loud and gets softer at the end. it last maybe for a minute. But here's the catch if i stick the key back in the ignition it stops and as soon as i pull it out it starts again.
View 4 RepliesIn addition to significantly louder noise from the Turbo on start-up, we've started to hear a pretty concerning noise while descending a hill in Tow-Haul. Not sure that the T/H has anything to do with it other than getting the engine in a RPM range that causes the noise. We've taken it in and tech says "That's just normal noise"... What ever that is.

I have a 2013 F350. Since it was new in August the turbo has made a chattering sound that sounds to me like the waste gate (if it had one) is opening and closing rapidly. Almost like its building boost and dumping it over and over again. Usually happens when it is in 6th gear around 1700 rpm under light load. It also does it from time to time while plowing snow. You can power through it or let off and it will go away. My local dealer where it was bought new put a new turbo on it and the problem still persists. The truck just turned over 8k miles and has been in several times in attempt to resolve the issue. They say that there are no codes on the truck nor does Ford have anything on their service web. My dealer claims that no one has ever had the issue.
View 14 RepliesSo I changed my fuel filter today and everything went as planned. I replaced it with a Ford OEM filters. I drained the filter housing under the truck by turning the yellow thing 1/4 turn. I then used a wrench and changed the filter. I put the new gasket on there and and tightened back down until it mechanically stopped. I then changed the one under the hood. I then did the bleed procedure 10 times and the truck fired right up.
Now for the reason with the post. I am getting a humming noise from the lower filter. I can find the issue. The yellow thing if fully seated closed and the housing is tightened as far as it can go. Under the hood, both lines are snug and on there properly. I can't figure out what is causing the humming.
The truck fires right up and the noise seems to go away, but I get the humming noise each time I turn the key on. I know something isn't right. I drove the truck around the block and didn't get any codes, but I have to drive it tomorrow and I don't want to risk damage to the truck.Thoughts on things I should try?
2011 F-250 Lariat with 38,000 miles. What is the cause or source of humming or buzzing noise from the under the hood that starts once I turn the truck off and close the door? Lasts from 3-4 minutes and only started noticing it in the last two thousand miles or so.
View 13 RepliesSo with the hurricane coming to my house I did the balljoints on my drivers side yesterday to prepare to evacuate today. Everything went smooth with no problems. Now fast forward to the drive to Orlando, I hit a bump going 65 and my front right side (ball joint replacement side) starts humming. I pull over and it stops, get out see nothing obviously wrong and start back on my way with no noise to speak of. It happened again and again I just slowed to almost a stop and it went away. Yesterday after the repair I took it on a trip through some crappy roads, the freeway, and all that to ensure she was safe with no problems. Maybe it is the bearing failing all of a sudden (it looked fine when I took it off). I have had a vibration at 55 consistently i think is the tires now that I replaced the ball joints (was waiting to have the tire shop check balance until after the repair) maybe that could be it?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 F250 with 186K miles. I do minor work on my vehicles but have little experience working on my diesel. I was accelerating when I heard a pop and a hiss similar to disconnecting an air hose from an air compressor. Total loss of turbo power. No turbo reading on the turbo gauge on dash. No loss of oil. No smoke. Oil and coolant look fine. Took off turbo and everything appeared to operate like it should (according to YouTube videos). Inspected lines and rubber boots.
Rubber has some cracks but not certain if they are holes. How small/large of a hole would cause total loss? Was originally scared to take it to a shop knowing they could name their price. Not opposed to taking it somewhere now knowing the turbo works but obviously would rather save the money. Any tips on troubleshooting? I'm not opposed to proactively replacing parts/sensors as the truck has given me 186k and I plan to keep it as long as possible.
My truck's been doing this ever since I got it when the engine is cold. Haven't brought it up to a dealer yet because I'm not sure it's a real problem, and since it only does it when it's cold I'd have to leave it overnight.
It seems to happen when the turbo hits a certain RPM. I got it on video but you can't really hear it until the end when I raise the RPMs a bit.

I have a 2013 Accent GL AT (Canadian spec). I recently had an oil change in which a Fram Xtra Guard was installed. However, when I reached my first hill with the new oil and filter, it sounded like the cars engine noise was different from before. It had become a low humming noise, almost like it was straining and didn't have enough power and would downshift later than usual. I changed the filter back to an OEM and still have the noise there, but not as bad.
View 22 RepliesMy girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.
Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?

Ratchet buzz noise my truck makes. Is not present until motor warms up. Noise is not present as much at idle but when you accelerate upwards to 1800 RPMs it makes such an obnoxious buzzing noise its embarrassing. Noise seems to come from top center area of motor.....
