I have a shake at 60-78 mph. Have had the tires balanced three times, last balance is beter. I'm thinking of switching the wheels from my 05 F250 to the 03 Excursion to verify a tire problem. Will the factory F250 17" wheels fit for the test? Both are 4x4 vehicles. The truck rides smooth.
View 5 RepliesI had a balancing problem with some tires I bought with the car. At about 80 they shook and hard enough to not want to drive at that speed. I replaced them with Falken tires and it was so much better, but......
At 75-82 mph I still have a shake in the steering wheel. I bought the tires from Discount and they claim the rim is bent and they cannot completely balance the tire. I am going back once more to get a definitive response.
I am at a loss at what to do next. My other Lexus was smooth at any speed, even at 90. Smooth. 2007 Lexus es350
I did wheel balance and alignment on my car and it still drives rough at around 105 km 110 and the mechanic said my rear left shaft needs to be replaced. I feel it in the floors like the car shaking a little about around that km.
View 3 RepliesI have a Venture with a steadily-worsening vibration problem which is always worse at the front passenger side. The vibration is not the growly rumble I remember from the bad bearings I replaced 3 years ago. It's more like the thudding feel of an out-of-balance tire, but the tires are relatively new and have been rotated and balanced since purchase and since I noticed the problem. The vibration shows mainly from 45-55 mph, but not if coasting. It's only when the engine is under load that I feel it. It occurs when the gear select is in D or 3. At any other speed it is not as bad, but if I get on the gas, the vibration becomes worse. Revving the engine in park or neutral reveals no abnormal vibration.
I jacked up the van and rotated the tires again and checked for any play in the bearings or loose mounting bolts - nothing obvious there. I did notice on the passenger side of the engine, around the inboard CV joint, a spray of thick axle/moly grease, like one would find inside a CV boot, as if the boot has a small hole in it, but the CV joint does not grind or make any typical noise on sharp turn.
My list of guesses include: motor mounts, tranny mounts, bad bearing/hub, bad half shaft/CV joint, tranny going bad, bad bearing in engine.
History/details: 2004 Venture LS long wheelbase. 160,000 miles. Goodyear Viva 2 tires. Front bearings have been replaced as a set once, driver side again since then, when the ABS sensor went bad. Sometimes when I put it into drive and turn sharply to the left, traction control turns on momentarily. The tranny has begun to slip and grab on a coast-to-stop followed by sudden acceleration.
I have a 09 Ford Focus, this morning I heard a noise that sounded like shaking, something in my back passenger tire. Sounded like something that should be connected and has now come disconnected, rattling around, only when I drive over a bump in the road (ie. manhole, crack in road, pothole) etc.
At times it feels as though the car is shifting when a bump is hit. I think it is the sway bar or stabilizer bar, is that what this sounds like? If this is what it is, is it time sensitive to get replaced? Or can it last a few days?
First off, vehicle is a 1993 Volvo 240, 5 speed with 131,000 miles
1) Temperature gauge is reading hot, but I believe it's running at a normal temperature. I read a few things discussing this issue. First off, a yellow wire that runs through the firewall becomes corroded (as do all Volvo wires of this age!) What exactly is this wire and what does it lead to? Could I just rerun that wire with possibly a thicker gauge? My dads an electrician so no worries with the wiring. More commonly, however; I read that the temperature compensation board fails and gives erratic readings! is this board expensive and how difficult is it to replace? I have experience with this dashboard because I rebuilt my odometer and installed a tachometer, that gives you my basic level of expertise.
2) My passenger side rear fog light won't work, a new bulb didn't fix the problem, what could it be?
3) My car shakes kind of vigorously while braking, especially at LOW speed!? I replaced front pads and rotors, what else could the problem be?

My 2004 Jetta with 58.5K miles (bought new) stalled in traffic 3 weeks ago. A few seconds later I turned the key and it started OK- no stalling since. For the last 3+ years I have taken it in for shaking as if the vehicle will stall and sometimes it's close to that, especially when I come to a stop at the traffic light. This week the rubber thing I think called under tray came down. Also, the clock is off with an hour. This car usually goes to the VW dealer for service.
View 4 RepliesI love my Rig, however I wish I had more time to drive the Beast. My Ex sits at home about 90% of the time patiently waiting for it's next assignment. Service is reserved for family trips, once in awhile light duty towing, occasional date nights with other couples, loading up the kids & their friends to get ice cream, etc. I have other vehicles for my daily driver.
Curious to see how often other Ex DIESEL owners drive their rigs and what the average time the truck sits vs. being used. I'd rather drive the truck than let it idle for 1/2 hr.
My Truck has the 7.3 so, to keep the Diesel happy I don't drive it less than 20 miles when it does move. Diesel motor experts agree that driving a diesel less than 4 miles roundtrip is not good for the motor because the engine has not had time to reach full operating Temp. About to roll 260,000 and that 7.3 motor seems like it's just starting to get broken in.
My daughters '09 Corolla was shaking and misfiring occasionally. When she took it to the shop the mechanic had it for a couple days and after many attempts finally reproduced the issue. After several diagnostics tests they determined it to be a damaged cylinder. We had the option of
1. replacing the engine
2. retooling it
I called around to a couple other mechanics and they told me the same thing. One particular mechanic (no affiliated with Toyota) told us that he had heard this happening on both the Camry and the Corolla. Sound like a manufacturer issues if it's been seen frequently.
I just got an Ex and am going to take it out next weekend and am trying to get it all squared away. What I am wondering is if there is a way to program it so all the doors unlock when shutting off the vehicle. Currently the drivers door will but I have to hit the unlock button to let everyone else out.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 5.4L excursion that intermittently shakes (feels like rumble strips/rough pavement) usually at 45-50 mph when the rpms are between 1500-2000. Increasing or decreasing rpms stopps the shaking. What could this be? I'm trying to figure out how much I might have to pay for repairs (pretty sure I'm not up to diying this one) without an expensive estimate.

View 6 RepliesWent for a drive last night in my "new" 2002, 4wd and which brought up some newbe excursion owner questions. First of all it has 95,000 miles on it and it is a V10. I noticed a clunk sound from the back of vehicle intermittently. u joints?, rear springs? or rear end?
Noticed that the front springs looked like they were sagging, is this normal or do I have an excuse to lift it? Also the shocks appear to be the original units and I figure that they are going to be on their way out. In the past I had good results with KYB gas-a just on a old F250 2wd.
I am going to compile a List of Parts for swapping a manual transmission into an diesel Excursion. My search for the ideal vehicle has not been fruitful to any degree...I would like an F350 (or comparable with a stick) but the wife doesn't want a "truck"....and the only kind of vehicles I like to drive, are vehicles with a manual transmission...
I would be lying if I didn't call it an obsession.....but that is just the way I am wired. So the wife likes the Excursions....and I like the manual trans.....so I figured since the Excursion and the F250 and F350 are built on the same basic frame/body the swap would be "easy". Enough of that, my initial list looks something like this:
Transmission
Manual Trans Crossmember
Transfer Case (is it different between the auto and manual trucks?)
Clutch/Flywheel Assy
Pedal Assy
Slave Cyl/Master Cyl and plumbing
Dash Gauge cluster from a manual trans truck(without the Automatic Gear Select Display)
Steering Column from a manual trans truck
Shifter and Shifter boot
Wiring Harness for manual trans(?)
What else?
My "theory" is that all of the parts will be "bolt in". Besides the fact that this would be a serious undertaking, what problems could I expect?
Have been battling this for months. Thought it was warped rotors, but has continued to go crazy. Truck is fine until braking at freeway speeds to 0 at about 35 front end goes crazy with shakes. Wheels physically wobble. Thought it was bearings replaced them. Put on rancho 9000 shocks replaced all steering and tie rods had aligned. Put on EDC slotted and drilled rotors with yellow stuff pads, new calipers. Each time worked for about 15 miles than started again until crazy wobble. Scaring the wife and kids to point they will no longer ride in truck. Steering is now slack need to adjust and probably need to look at everything again but it still is rectifying symptoms not problem.
View 5 RepliesThe Ex has started intermittent (less intermittent now) shaking while driving down the road. Not very noticeable at low speeds 20 or less. Idles smooth. Took it in and had tires checked, balanced, rotated, and aligned.
No difference. It was so bad my wife got pulled over by a police officer on the freeway here. He was extremely nice, looked under the car and suggested as possibilities. The locking Hubs on the front (4x4), U-Joints, Axle issue, Stuck in 4 wheel drive, or bad power steering pump.
Once she picked me up and we drove home from our dinner, I got pulled over. When it is in its violent shaking mode, it pulls to the right. when the shaking subsides (for an unknown reason) the pull to the right is gone. I do not notice anything that causes it to start or stop the shaking.

My vehicle is making a noise like a flat tire but no flat tire it is the loudest when my foot is off the gas and I am coasting I have had the bearing checked that is not the problem of course the mechanic couldn't hear it when he took it out but as soon as I left it started doing it they also told me the motor mounts are a bit loose but they didn't give me much information on it they kinda rushed me out my car is also vibrating quite a bit ....
View 3 RepliesI have a 1.5 year old Forester. I have rotated the tires twice now, and each time I notice some excessive tire noise after the rotation, for the next hundred miles or so. The tires look OK. Is this a sign that I need alignment? That is, the rotation is equalizing some uneven wear due to a misalignment?
