I was asked these questions tonight, and realized I didn't know the answers. I have "E" load range tyres.
1. Does the Excursion use the metal valve stems like the other super duty's? Are these the press on type? or screw on?
2. What is the Valve Stem size?
I have a 1984 ranger with the 2.8L and I am doing the valve stem oil seals.
I have instructions from the ranger station. And I have access to mitchell1 and chilton online.
Also I read somewhere about better settings to use for valve lash? The truck has about 80,000 miles on it.
how easy is it to replace the Valve Stem Core of a tire? I got a hunch one of my Gen 3 Prius' valve stem core pin is slightly depressed and might be leaking air.
Is it expensive and do I need to worry about the TPM or is that a separate component?
We have a 2007 Passat. The tire pressure sensor broke off at the valve stem. In checking with the dealer, I was told the tire pressure sensor and valve stem are all one unit. My question is if you can use a regular valve stem and attach the sensor to it, or do you have to get the entire unit with the valve stem and sensor together.
View 2 RepliesMy 06' Camry has 141k on it and when I start it up in the morning it smokes and I have been told it is the valve stem seals, and since I'm pretty handy with a wrench. I was wondering all the tools and steps there are to replacing them and if you actually have to take the head off or not?
View 14 Replies2012 Elantra GLS. Wife comes home and says the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) light on the dash is lit. I check the tire pressure. None abnormally low but I decide to top them off. Notice that two of the valve stem caps are broken. The tips are broken off so I can see the little red gasket. On opposite sides of the car. No damage to the wheel covers. The valve stems don't stick out past the wheel covers so I wonder how the caps could have gotten broken. Could that be why the TPS system is giving me a warning? If by chance there was a pressure issue does the light reset itself or does the dealer have to do it?
View 19 RepliesI adjusted the slop out of my steering box according to this thread a couple days ago. Long story short I got the adjuster screw tightened down TOO far, probably when setting the locknut. Now the steering is unusually heavy and the steering wheel won't return to center on its own. Spent the last hour trying to go back the other way but I can't budge the allen head adjuster screw one bit. Locknut is plenty loose for it to turn, but the allen wrench is just flexing trying to turn it and it feels if I give it any more torque it's just going to strip out anyway. Is there anything I can try here to take the pressure off it so it'll turn or is the steering box now officially FUBAR?

View 13 RepliesI have a 2001 excursion and am trying to remove the second row bench seat. How do you get to the back set of of torque screws? The front ones are easy to get to but the rear are under the seat trac and I haven't been able to get to them. I am pretty sure I am overlooking the obvious.

View 12 RepliesThe brakes were sounding like metal on metal. Three wheels in, some of the pads needed replaced but none were worn out. I got to the right rear wheel and the inside pad is worn to the bracket but the outside pad hardly looks worn at all.
I'm already replacing rotors, pads and calipers (I wasn't going to replace the rear rotors or calipers until I got to this wheel). Is there anything else I need to check because of such uneven pad wear?
I have a 2001 F350 with a 7.3 diesel and automatic trans. I purchased it about 100,000 miles ago. It is all stock as far as I know. The mileage on it was about 14-15 on the road and I decided to put a chip in it. I was somewhat leary of putting too much power to this old of a rig. I put a TS Performance chip in it. It seems to have more power. I am towing a 30 ft. Gulfstream Seahawk I think around 10,000 lbs. When I started up a hill it made a different noise like a screeching noise when I pushed it. When I back off a bit the noise goes away. When I put it back to stock setting the noise is not there just the normal downshift and increased RPM. Not sure how to describe the noise but sounds like a metal bearing type noise. I get the same rush of air or what ever that sound is when it changes back to a higher gear. Is this sound normal or what might it be. It sounds normal when not pressing it.
View 6 RepliesI replaced a brake cylinder on my 2006 Focus rear drum brake. Now, I need to bleed the brake fluid, but I can't find a wrench to fit the nut.10mm is too small and 11mm is too big. What's going on? Could it be the rusted nut has grown in size enough to make the 10mm wrench too small? Or, is the nut standard?I know the drum bleeder nut I know the front disc brake bleeder brake is 10mm. So, I am thinking the rear should be metric, but since it's drum, I am not so sure. What the size is?
View 13 RepliesSo...I just took my car in last week to replace the TPS and noticed that the car is now making a weird sound when I reverse (out of parking spaces, etc). The sounds seems to be coming from the rear of the car the sound is similar to metal scraping concrete and happens intermittently. I'm wondering if this is a random coincidence or if this could be related to the recent work done on the TPS. If my brakes hadn't been completely replaced a year ago, I'd suspect it might be those. What could cause this sound?

View 3 RepliesWhat's the best way to changed a EGV valve on a 1996 Ranger? The metal line coming from the exhaust manifold to the EGV valve, is seriously rusted on both ends. It looks like if I don't heat the metal line, the line will just round out, what's the best way to tackle this job.
View 6 RepliesIt makes a weird 'fppp' air shooting noise before the exhaust note and my 2003 gti vr6 makes the exact same noise. It sounds like it's coming from the intake manifold valve and not really the filter, but I'm not sure and yes my filter is clean, the noise also sounds a little bit more obnoxious and problematic in real life. What it is, I thought it was a vacuum leak but I don't wanna bring it in till i know exactly what it is,
View 2 RepliesMy leaf spring swap is almost complete... its been almost 3 weeks with all the conflicts of life but its getting near completion. Just have to do front passenger side now.. Tomorrow and it should all be done.. hopefully... Any ways... my preliminary numbers are 40" front (ground to fender) and 41.5" rear.. Might be 1/2" to 1" off since I haven't finished the job AND the truck is sitting on dirt. Any ways, What size wheel/tires can I fit on there now? And will I need a spacer with that size?

I got new tires a few months ago and when the shop was putting them on they said the driver's side ball joints had a little wiggle in them. I've noticed it has gotten worse and I am going to change them prob next week. I am just going got do both sides while I have it torn apart. I have found some great info on how to do that. I also have noticed some ratcheting sounds from the drivers side hub when I start the truck and accelerate, and then it feels like there's a pop and the sounds goes away. Also if I flip on the 4x4 switch while there is the ratcheting sound it goes away. Is that just from a vacuum leak in the system? I don't know a whole lot about that, or what hoses are vacuum hoses etc.
I haven't really looked in the manual that much yet. My big question is this, I was driving down the freeway going about 70 when all of a sudden there was a gear grinding type sound, kinda like when you try to start a car that has already been started and the starter teeth make that grinding sound. Could it be that the axle has started to get some play from the ball joints getting worse and then it just reached the right RPM to cause a crazy vibration? Or could the 4x4 have a possible malfunction to where it tried to engage but the truck was going too fast? It hasn't happened again, but I have not gone 70 again either.
Just purchased a 2000 V10 Limited with 117000 miles on it. Absolutely love it....just have a noise that is bugging the crap out of me. My husband doesn't think it is a big deal, but I would love to find out what it is without dropping 60 bucks at the dealer.
Whenever I turn a corner that is a tad bumpy it makes a bump type sound. It usually happens only when one side is going over the bump. It is pretty loud. IT will happen also when I am going down my dirt road without turning but when one tire goes over a bump the truck kind of shifts from side to side and the sound starts.
We have thought it could be the shocks or maybe the springs making that kind of sound. My husband is clueless and he knows alot about vehicles. I just hope my description wasn't too vague.
