So I bought and installed this.. [URL] ..... Everything seemed to go just fine, but now when I turn the wheel I get a rubber on metal type squeak out of both fronts, the right worse than the left. Is there a secret trick I didn't know about? Did I do something wrong?
View 12 Replies1999 Ford Windstar started overheating. I discovered coolant leaking from a small metal tube coming out the top of the rear right (drivers side) of the engine. There are two similar small tubes. This one appears to be corroded through. I tried to pull it off, but if felt like it would break off.It's pretty far back and somewhat difficult to access. I'm wondering if this can easily be replaced and if so, how would I go about it.

1. Does the Excursion use the metal valve stems like the other super duty's? Are these the press on type? or screw on?
2. What is the Valve Stem size?
Took 08 Camry w/50k miles for rotation & balance and Alignment check at my neighborhood Michel Tires Plus, was told left front strut is leaking an oily-type fluid. I bought the Platinum Warranty when I bought this car new. The warranty is 7 yr/100,000 miles and there is -0- deductible.
While reading my copy of the Platiunum warranty, it states Exclusions from Platinum Warranty coverage includes shock absorbers, but it says nothing about struts. So are struts covered ?
If Toyota refuses to pay for any repairs, is there any room for negotiation? At this time there is no unusual noise from the strut area of the car.
I have a base v6. When I turn the steering wheel (for example, to make a left turn), it sounds like there is metal-on-metal rubbing. The wheel is not extended (turned all the way til it stops)...
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 F350 with a 7.3 diesel and automatic trans. I purchased it about 100,000 miles ago. It is all stock as far as I know. The mileage on it was about 14-15 on the road and I decided to put a chip in it. I was somewhat leary of putting too much power to this old of a rig. I put a TS Performance chip in it. It seems to have more power. I am towing a 30 ft. Gulfstream Seahawk I think around 10,000 lbs. When I started up a hill it made a different noise like a screeching noise when I pushed it. When I back off a bit the noise goes away. When I put it back to stock setting the noise is not there just the normal downshift and increased RPM. Not sure how to describe the noise but sounds like a metal bearing type noise. I get the same rush of air or what ever that sound is when it changes back to a higher gear. Is this sound normal or what might it be. It sounds normal when not pressing it.

View 14 RepliesI have had the right rear strut replaced three times in the last year and a half. The second time I also bought a new set of tires. It drove much smoother after that, however, it still has the following problem. When I'm driving on even a slightly bumpy street, it sounds like the right side of the backseat is loose. It rattles and squeaks. I've had the backseat removed each time I've replaced the strut and nothing is wrong there. Recently, I had some body damage repaired to the rear bumper and told the guy about this problem. He took out the backseat and found that with it removed and while being driven, it still made the same squeaky, rattly, loose sound and that the strut is still leaking. I have been avoiding bumpy roads and speed bumps.
View 6 Replies1999 Windstar 3.8. I heard a slight squeak noise fron front end, when low speed driving. Sounds not really horrible, but annoying, and I wish to find out the real cause before it turn worse. It's not easy to describe what the noise sounds like. I can hear it at low speed, seems not relates to steering. At higher speed, it disappears, not sure really gone or covered by other noise. And, when I just parked, and kick the tire, the same noise can be reproduced. But when I tried to kick next day, no more noise.
View 10 RepliesSo...I just took my car in last week to replace the TPS and noticed that the car is now making a weird sound when I reverse (out of parking spaces, etc). The sounds seems to be coming from the rear of the car the sound is similar to metal scraping concrete and happens intermittently. I'm wondering if this is a random coincidence or if this could be related to the recent work done on the TPS. If my brakes hadn't been completely replaced a year ago, I'd suspect it might be those. What could cause this sound?
View 5 RepliesMy parents own a 2013 Elantra 4-door (sedan) and for the last few months it's been making a metal grind/squeak. Here are the following characteristics:
-It occurs only during acceleration from a full stop or low speed. It would then disappear if we drive it longer or get to 60km/h.
-We've diagnosed it to the front right wheel.
-It sounds like the squeak at you get when your break pads are almost used up - metal on metal grinding squeak
-It seems to be temperature related as the squeaking occurs less during cooler temperatures - it comes back once (I assume) the wheel / brake / rotors are sufficiently warm.
We have brought it to a mechanic and he did hear the squeak. He took of the pads and re-lubed (not on the braking side obviously). No change. BTW the pads are still very beefy and is the original pads that came with the car.
Searching online it seems this issue is fairly common and it seems to be the brake pads. Is this what's happening to my parents' car? If so is it as simple as replacing the brake pads with a different brand?
I have an 08 F-150 5.4. When sitting still or moving, and turning the steering wheel to the right and only the right past center, there is a popping type noise somewhat like a screw driver down a washboard (for those who'll know what that is). I replaced the ball joints because I saw a slight amount of play, but the noise is still there.
View 12 RepliesI got a 98 f150 with a 2 year old starter in it. When I go to start the truck I turn the key and it makes a horrible metal crunching sound. If I quick stop, then turn it again, it'll start.
I saw another thread here with 'occasional grinding noise' but this just started, and happens every time I turn the key. Is it time for a new starter or should I look towards the fly wheel or something else???
So for about two years now I have had this creaking, squeaking noise coming from the left side of the truck. It only happens when turning left(such as 90° turns). It doesn't happen over bumps or while turning right. if you turn slowly the sound is minimal or not there. When it rains and there is water on the road the noise usually stops all together. The noise is not constant. Almost sounds like a shopping cart with bad wheel.
We replaced all the ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, sway bar links, tires, sway bar bushings, and brakes(not all because of the sound, just taking care of maintenance along the way). My mechanic did my alignment about two months ago and could not pin the noise down and didn't see anything binding. Suggested to change out the sway bar links, but that didn't stop it.
I have a squeak that developed in the steering column whenever I turn the wheel. It is as if something lacks lubrication. It does it in all steering positions. I guess next step is to open it up and see if I can get closer to the source so I can hit it with WD40.
View 6 RepliesMy 04 Focus squeaks like an old mattress when negotiating uneven ground while turning. Quiet on speed bumps, rain also quiets it, then it comes back after a few hours. (Brief) search on internet indicates no lube necessary, not making sound that would indicate boot problem.
View 4 RepliesHave my truck in signature making a very high pitched, annoying squeak from the front end. I believe it is coming from the right side because i just took the wheel off and it has a coating of brake dust on it (the 3 other wheels are clean). Only makes the noise when turning right at speed, and goes away when i straight it out or hit the brakes. I am not very good with brakes or the front end parts.. what could be causing this noise? Could the slide pins be frozen? i know that is a problem with these trucks... but not sure if these are the symptoms.

View 11 RepliesI have a 1999 cadillac Deville that my mechanic says needs a new front strut mount. My symptoms are mostly in cold weather a very slight groan when parking the vehicle or turning into my driveway. It seems like it happens when the steering wheel is on its return back to center and it can be felt slightly in the wheel and heard as the sound a zip tie makes when pulled together with a slight groan. The car has been recently aligned and rides pretty good but sometimes can be a little noisy over bumps.
View 6 RepliesStarted hearing a squeak from drivers front wheel area when turning right, thought maybe pads might need replacing but they were fine as were the pins. So I checked for play with tire off ground and there was def some play pulling from top to bottom, so that lead me to the front hub, I read some posts about pulling the abs sensor and getting some grease in the the hub bearing so I did that but when I replaced the sensor and spun the hub it was scrubbing on the bearing.?
So I shimmed the sensor with a washer but now the abs light comes on but there doesn't seem to be a squeak when turning right anymore. Any example of doing this and had the sensor scrub? And with the play I would assume I need to plan to replace the hub assembly fairly soon...
2000 X 4x4 V10 with 147k
Windstar 2000, 260K, ABS not functioning, previously ABS light on all the time now of even with Key on Engine Stopped. While a long drive after 1600 KM failed to apply the Cruis. Horn not blowing. Retried cruise engaged but resume, horn, deceleration did not not function. Stopped, disconnected battery for half hour cruise and horn started functioning. Again after 400 KM stopped functioning. Now it is intermittent. Tail lights normally working. Cruise deactivating switch (switch unser the master brake cylinder) was changed by ford 5 years back, it is dry no signs of brake oil on it. Fuse no 10 is OK. Rapid repeated turning steering wheel has no effect. CEL On since 4 years code is for bank 2 CTM.
