Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: No Coolant Will Come Out The Water Outlet Pipe

Sep 10, 2012

I replaced water pump and thermostat...thermostat 2 times.

This is the thing : No coolant will come out the water outlet pipe.... I sit there for way too long and nothing flows out the outlet. remove the thermostat or an inlet hose and coolant flows out.

I overheated pretty bad... I drove maybe 10-15 minutes unaware. I suspected blown head gasket but no missing coolant and nothing in the oil. I removed the water outlet pipe and thermostat and just poured coolant in to see if any reached behind the thermostat. It did.

I even started the engine with it removed and coolant flowed out. now it didn't pour out...as in filling the entire diameter and squirting out... HOW MUCH pressure or flow should be normal there.

I am really stuck. I don't think air is an issue because I don't have a radiator cap. I am thinking blown head gasket restricting flow? New water pump is not up to par ?

Why the hell won't the thermostat open at all!!!!??? removed I get some flow!!! Its a get a jiggle pin. I am about to take into to be diagnosed but I cant believe this problem has turned into this. Can they test head gasket? I am preparing myself to do the head gasket and the rest.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Coolant Leak On Right Side Of Cross Over Pipe

I have a leak on the right side of the cross over pipe. I removed one long bolt from the right side and two long bolts from the left side that go through the thermostat housing, and three bolts from the back of the alternator, but the pipe doesn't seem to want to move. I don't want to break anything.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Coolant Smell And Lots Of White Smoke From Tail Pipe

My DD just developed a head gasket leak. I've been noticing a coolant smell for a few days and today saw lots of white smoke from the tail pipe. I figured this is where my coolant was going and sure enough there is coolant coming from the driver's side head. I've ordered the gaskets and new bolts, but need the install.

I think mostly what I will need is the intake and head bolt torque and sequence. I will need to take a few days off work to get it done. Truck is a 2002 F150 with a 5.4L engine.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Heater Blows Hot Then Cold / Moisture Coming Out Tail Pipe But No Coolant In It

I have a 2003 Ford f150 5.4. Heater blows hot, then cold, then hot then cold. When it start blowing cold it pukes out the degas bottle. I have burped it, did the combustion test to make sure not a blown head gasket, the oil clean, there is moisture coming out tail pipe but it has no coolant in it. flushed heater core, pulled water pump off and checked it, its good. Changed thermostat 2 times, put front on ramps to get any air out. I am at a total loss now.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Persistent Coolant Leak At The Thermostat Outlet

The truck has been a dream for several months and I had a coolant leak at the thermostat outlet. Changed the fitting and thermostat and sealed with lots of blue monkey snot. It's been perfect for a couple months but a week ago it started leaking again. Exactly the same as last time. I cleaned the mating surface of the water pump with a plastic scraper to remove the old sealer and then finished it with fine scotch brite. I looked at several parts breakdowns and none of them showed a gasket.......

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 - Coolant Pouring Out The Tail Pipe After BPD Oil Cooler Installation?

My buddy install a BPD air/oil oil cooler in his 2003 F250 last week and now there is coolant pouring out the tail pipe. I haven't seen it but he tells me there is quite a bit coming out. It wasn't doing this before we installed the BPD oil cooler. Normally I would say bad EGR cooler but his EGR is deleted. This is the 3rd BPD cooler I've put in and this is the first time I've had any issues after the install. The install went smooth other than we broke the radiator and had to install a new one. I feel bad cause I'm hoping it wasn't something I caused but I just can't think of anything I did during this install that would cause coolant to be getting into the exhaust. He just had it towed to the local Ford dealership.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Blue Smoke From Tail Pipe

After tooling around town and a complete warm up cycle for the engine I encountered a problem. The situation is this.... Had to go around a slow poke....waited until traffic had cleared and nailed it. My truck belched out a boat-load of blue smoke from the tail pipe. Could not duplicate this on the return trip to the stealer (Dealer). Needles to say, I am worried about the health of the engine....(no codes popped, or anything else as I had a code reader hooked up) My truck did the blue cloud again with a rev up in park after a cool down but wouldn't do it again, but there was a strong smell of unburned fuel at the tail pipe.

LeSabre :: 1997 Buick - Small Drip Of Coolant On Driveway Under Water Pump

Lately I have been noticing a very small drip of coolant on the driveway under the water pump. Most would assume this to be coming from the water pump, right? Problem I have, is I can drive the car say 10-15 miles, return the car to it's parking area on the drive (previous spot cleaned and dried) and monitor thru out the day, some 10-12 hours, NO DRIP! I can forget about it, return the following morning only to see it has dripped overnight! I have visually inspected the coolant elbows at the tensioner and dry as a bone. I see no damp areas near the water pump pulley area. You might ask if the upper and LIM work has ever been done and the answer is yes, the local Buick dealership did that a few years back.

The coolant levels rise and lower normally depending on engine temp and it's hard to see any loss of coolant when looking at the reservoir when cold. I have read there is a small weep hole near the output shaft of the water pump which allows a release of coolant to protect the bearings of the water pump. Could this be where the coolant is coming from? I wouldn't mind replacing the water pump and even the coolant elbows while I have every thing apart, but I would hate to do that only to find it was something else, maybe an easier fix!

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Water In 4WD Vacuum Actuator

I have a 2003 F150 supercrew 4x4 and I'm on my 3rd - 4wd vacuum actuator this winter so far. Somehow water is getting into the actuator itself mounted on the axle and then when it gets cold enough it freezes up and won't work until the heat from the engine thaws it out and then the 4x4 will engage.

Every time I've changed it I have found the part to have about a quarter cup of water in it. and can't figure out where the water may be entering these things. There also was no moisture in the vacuum lines when I blew them out.

I've been using the Dorman brand replacements from O'Reilly, they have a lifetime quarantee but I'm sick of swapping them out every month...

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Steam And Water Coming Out Of Intake

My truck over heated and I now have a looks like a pin hole leak next to the front injector on the left side looking at it. I have used sealers and it does not work. Water pools around the injector. Does this sound like a cracked intake housing? I have done many repairs but this is something I'm not sure I want to do. I can get a new intake setup for 160.00 on rock auto but ford would be in the 300 or more just for the part.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Water In Spark Plug Recess

1997 f-150, 4.6, 147K miles. This morning I started the truck and the engine light was on. Felt a miss in the engine. Drove 1 mile and back then checked the wires. Found one not firing. Traced it back to the plug. When I pulled the plug boot off I noticed water in the recess, surrounding the plug. Once I blow out the water, I'll checjk the plug but I would like to know if this is a natural occurrence. I thought the boot would prevent water from filling the recess and sitting there. Or does the water just evaporate when the engine gets hot?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Water Pump Pulley Shims

Is it common to have to shim the water pump pulley? I don't know why but mine seems to have moved back a fraction of an inch. I loosen the belt tension and slide the belt back and as soon as I start the motor, the belt slides forward again. And as I rev the motor, the belt moves even further out onto the edge of the water pump pulley and starts to squeal. All other pulleys are aligned and the belt spins fine on them. I thought about buying a shim kit, but I ordered a new Motorcraft water pump since I have 154k miles on my truck.
