Unable to decode the B6 axle code on my f150,5.4 L,FX4 2005. Clearly located on the drives side door is the label 'axle' directly below that is B6 ! Unable to locate a listing for this code any where?

View 2 Replieshad a leaking rear driveshaft seal at the axle and replaced it and fluid. 75W145 full synthetic as recommended. it was changed at 128000 and I've started to get an axle whine over 25 MPH up to 65-70MPH. quites down around 80 MPH. I just checked it after 2 months (whine just started) with 133000. Any TSB. does this fall under TSB 05-23-3? Noise sounds like I've got really aggressive tires on the truck. Only have Dayton HT all season. Did not add the XL3 additive. Would this work at this juncture.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 ford f-150 5.4 l that the cel light came on. when it first started it did not give me a code but said I had a small emmisions leak. In a day or two it finally gave me a code (p0446). I pulled out the evap control purge solenoid to ensure that it was not plugged. I checked the voltage @ the plug/ with the key on it is giving 14 volts. when i plugged the valve in it would not shift. I took the valve out and jumpered it directly to the battery and it seems to work fine but when I plug it into the harness it does not work, I Cleaned all connections I could going back to the pcm and doublechecked voltage @ the plug and still have 14 volts but will not fire the solenoid. the coil omhs out @ 63omhs. I am going to try a new valve....

View 2 RepliesI just acquired a wonderful 2005 F-150 XLT 4.6 liter truck. I need to get it passable for smog check here in AZ and the failed test revealed a P0453 error code (EVAP) which translates to a possible pressure sensor malfunction.
My question is finding the sensor and if I am looking at dropping the fuel tank to service/replace the sensor. Also, could a vacuum line be the cause?
I have a 2005 f150 5.4 3 valve with the p0012 code the truck runs good has a rough idle not sure if it is worth changing the vct or not the truck has 190000 miles....

Had phasers, tensioners, chains, guides, and sensors replaced. After driving the truck, it started to get a rough idle at low speeds, primarily in reverse. Changed both vct solenoids with no results. Started to get p0022 code. Changed the oil with motorcraft filter and 5w-20 twice after the work had been done, thinking it might need it. Vct's were a little varnished, but not too bad.
After a couple days of light driving, got a misfire on #3. Replaced the coil and it hasn't been back since. I am stumped at this point.
The computer show the timing to be at +13 when sitting stopped and in drive. It fluctuates a little, but not much. When the truck goes into a rough idle. The rpm's fluctuate wildly. It seems to be happening more frequently, the more I drive it.
Had the check engine light in the 2005 F150 (90,000 miles) come on. Got the code checked and its P0420. I know that has to do with the cat threshold levels etc. so I believe I am looking to replace the o2 sensor, if I am not mistaken.
How hard of a job is this? Ive done a decent amount of engine work and worked in a shop in high school. Just looking to see if that is the right thing to try first, replacing the sensor, before replacing the cat.
Also I know its the right bank, but if I am not mistaken there is a before and after the cat o2 sensor, which do i replace? Both?
2005 5.4L She would have a hard time starting before but after I replaced and fixed everything below she was running really good. Now back to sputtering, taking a long time to start and now not starting at all.
I have replaced; Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, FPDM, Plugs and COP's, FRP Sensor, followed the power wire from the FDPM and found it corroded bad so I replaced it, also changed the ground location on the FDPM, I have checked all the wires from the FDPM to the drivers seat, checked all fuses.
I have power to FPDM and I have the diagram for the plug but how can I test (hotwire) the Fuel Pump without lowering the fuel tank? What should be the voltage coming from the FPDM plug? not sure about pin 1 & 6.
How can I test the FRP sensor? what are the specs for voltage?

View 3 RepliesTried searching, but I couldn't find any good write-ups on how to replace a front CV axle. The boot on mine is ripped and spraying grease so I figure I should just replace the whole axle while I'm in there. In a previous post, I also found out that replacing the CV axle (joint?) is easier than replacing just the boot.
View 1 RepliesI had a loud whine from the rear axle of my 04 SCREW and had the bearings replaced at the dealership. It has been about a year/12k miles since it was done and I just noticed that the vent hose is missing. I'm not sure if they left it off or if it fell off on its own. Anyway, my question is, do I need to replace the fluid once I put a new hose on? I'm not sure how much if any dirt or water might have gotten in there. Also, where does the hose go up to? I figure it must clip to the frame somewhere.
View 5 RepliesLooking to change out my front differential cover tomorrow, cover is pitted, rusted, corroded, and leaking at the seals. While under there I want to inspect the vent for the axle and differential (and replace if it's clogged - which I believe is leading to the seal leaking). Looking for info about the vent tube location on the front axle? Thought I read somewhere it was on the cover itself, turns out that's a negative.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 F150, 5.4L V8. A few years back I was in an accident when someone slammed into the front of my truck. The right front wheel & tire took the brunt of the accident. I thought the repair shop had everything back to normal until recently I occasionally have a grinding sound coming from the right front side, seems to be related to the axle. It doesn't do it all the time just at random while I'm driving. The only solution I can find is to pull over or slow my speed to a crawl. Once I slow down enough or turn my wheel one way or the other its like something SLAMS back into place. I had it looked at by a local mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong. Could it be something in my right front axle?
View 7 RepliesSome family members borrowed my truck, and when they returned I have a loud whining noise coming from the rear axle, which I have determined is a 9.75 rear. I checked oil level and it was high enough, but has a slight leak from the pinion seal. Everything feels solid but I have nothing to compare it to.
Its on a 2005 Super Cab with the 5.4L 183,000 miles. The front pinion seal was replaced in Feb 2 years ago, by the dealer's mechanic, who may have been a shade tree mechanic.
I am a Youtube Certified Mechanic, as in, I watched about 10 videos of people working on their 9.75 differentials, and realize I don't have all of the tools to do the job, such as a press, or race drivers, or the special gauge.
How many of you have tackled this issue? What did you find? What am I looking at for cost? I am on a very small budget.
Just picked up a 2005 Prius a few months back with 60k miles on it. It had an open recall related to the steering column so I took it to the local dealer for inspection. Well, they found it has a front axle seal leak and had a couple questions for the forum related to that.
1) It has not dripped a single drop of fluid in the time I have had it, so where would I look under the car to see the leak?
2) Anything else I should have them replace while they are repairing this issue?
A Lexus dealer in NJ told me my 2005 GX470 front axle boots leaking, they gave me a quote to re-build both side.
View 9 RepliesI recently had my rear axle seals replaced due to leaking. Does the rear diff fluid get replaced on that repair since the rear diff cover comes off? Trying to figure out when my next interval for changing rear diff fluid should be.
View 1 RepliesMy 2005 SuperCab 5.4 4x4 won't go into 4wd...I turn it on and nothing! No light, no clunk, nothing! (No 4Low either). I checked all the related fuses and relay fuses behind the passenger kick panel, and they are all fine. I don't do any off roading, nor have I ran anything over. The truck only has 20,000 miles on it.
I did have the brake booster hose recall a couple years ago, so I'm going to crawl under to see perhaps the technician didn't click a harness back together or something.
