I was driving down a road tonight and my entire truck shut down, and it said engine safe mode. I lost all power steering and gas, all I had were breaks and electronics. What does that mean?
View 1 RepliesThere had been a lot of discussion about the engine light coming on and the Engine fail safe mode. A lot of folks said the dealer could not fix it. It happened to me and my dealer fixed it. This is what the dealer did to correct the problem

No more problems.....
Is it safe to rev the engine while in inspection mode (forced idle). Someone has a question about checking for valve noise in the top thread about common 2G problems in the maintenance discussion, and I unsure about giving advice concerning revving the engine via the throttle motor. I will mention, I suppose, the check engine light will turn on.
View 3 RepliesI've got an 06 F150, 5.4l crew cab lariat. So to start, I had a programmer screw up my ECU, so when I got it re programmed at ford, everything works except for the ABS sensors. I recently had someone break into my truck and broke my stereo when they couldn't get it out. So I was driving home from work the other day and lost my whole instrument cluster, windows wouldn't roll up or down, wipers worked very slowly until not at all. shut off the truck and wouldn't restart. I jumped it and started it. ran fine. with the exception of the previous problems. I noticed when it got dark out that my my taillights and head lights were on very dimly with the switch off. Also hearing a clicking sound coming from under the truck, at the back of the cab and front of the bed. the only thing electric that's back there is the fuel pump (i believe). I am at a complete loss.
View 5 RepliesWell my p2106 code seems to be different from all the other ones Ive read. I get the p2106 code after the truck goes into "FAILSAFE MODE" and it only goes into failsafe mode the moment the truck reaches 40mph and then loses all its power. I turn the truck off and back on and its back to normal until I go 40mph again. I scan it and only get one code p2106. The truck idles and runs perfectly until it reaches 40mph! I've replaced the entire throttle body with a new one from ford and it keeps doing the same thing. I don't want to keep buying electronic parts as they are not returnable. My truck is a 2005 Expedition with 72k miles on it

View 4 RepliesHaving that flash on the dash? Truck was running fine and the buzzer when off and dash said I think -- when safe stop and shut off engine immediately. Scared the scr-p out of me so not sure if that was word for word. Jump on the binders and got it off the road and called a wrecker. Now it's at the dealer waiting for them in the morning. Checked oil and don't see any leaks. Now I have lost my confidence in the truck. 42000 miles on it.

View 2 RepliesWhat happened is I went to get in the truck I opened the door and the gauges and blower motor came on by itself like the ignition is in the on position. I put the key in the ignition and the truck didn't do anything. No crank or anything and I did notice the anti theft light blinking really fast. I unplugged the battery and plugged it back up then the truck started but I went to shut it off and pulled the key out the ignition and truck stayed running. But also the blower in the truck and the gauges are still staying on. People keep saying it's my key but why would the stuff cut on by itself inside the truck when I just opened the door?
View 9 RepliesI am usually on 6.0 site and don't know much about a 5.4 gasser, hope to get some tech info. My buddy was driving to my house yesterday and his 06 F-150 with a 5.4 liter just shut off while driving. He got it restarted on first try, all engine vitals normal. I sent him to Advance Auto Parts and they pulled codes; P-2112 and P-2104 and throttle actuator stuck closed. Engine is running fine and he has driven it about 100 miles since yesterday with no problems. 06 F-150 5.4 liter 58,000 miles.
View 3 RepliesAt a loss right now. My 2004 F150 4X4 and just recently started sounding like the truck is trying to shift into 4X4 mode while driving it. It stops if it's switched into 4X4. I have taken it to a local mechanic shop I use and they said it was the Actuators and they replaced those. I got it back and the same day the noise came back. Took it back and they have had it for another week and still unable to figure it out. I even took it to another shop that was highly recommended and they say to take it to a Ford dealership. I have read that some say it could be the vacuum operated hubs? Need to figure out what it was and had it fixed?

124K miles. Vehicle has been operated in AZ and TX only until coming to Minot, ND 6 weeks ago.
3 days ago I got an "Engine Failsafe Mode" on startup. I shut the vehicle off immediately. Started it up again and the "Engine Failsafe Mode" message disappeared, but the engine light came on and has stayed on for the last 3 days. It seems to be running ok, maybe a little rough.
I ran the reset info on the dash screen and all systems read out OK. I have not run the truck over 40 mph since, and not on the highway, but it seems to accelerate without a lot of hesitation.
I've seen in other forums that this might be a dirty or faulty throttle body and/or the dealer may be able to re-flash with updates but this is old 2004 info from newer owners back then.
What am I looking at from a time/price angle when going to the Dealer for service? I don't want to replace a throttle body if it just needs to be cleaned and re-flashed because I'm ignorant.
Anything I should watch out for? I'm not a competent mechanic!

Luckily I was a block away from home. So i assumed all those sensors shorted with water ( I thought they were all water proof...hmm) so i let them dry.
So the codes went away and the truck seamed fine for 2 weeks until i felt the tranny kicking again into gears yesterday. So today i went on a test drive and it was fine at first until it went into safe mode again with only 2 codes:

So, that means the other sensors dried out and i destroyed the TRS? and if so would it malfunctioning cause the tranny to go into safe mode or could there be some other issue?
I have a 2008 F150 with a 4.6 litre in it. Last year I dropped a couple of plugs and had a factory new, second generation 4.6 installed. The motor only has about 25,000 on it while the rest of the truck has about 160,000. I was driving back roads in western Mass and went over a small, about four inches deep, pothole. I was driving about 35 miles per hour.
I didn't get any associated master warning lights. The RPM started rolling back from about 1700 to 0, and when they got to 0, the engine shut off. There was no previous sign of a fuel pump going bad, or of a bad fuel filter, which is also less than a year old. The truck has plenty of electrical power and turns over strong but won't start.
I checked the #9 fuse as identified in the manual but couldn't find an actual relay for the fuel pump, so I'm assuming it just has the 20 amp fuse which was good by the way. I'm thinking that the fuel pump would have given a few warning signs, but maybe not.
I did check the emergency fuel shutoff switch to make sure that it had not activated when I hit the pot hole and unless I'm resetting it incorrectly, it doesn't seem to have been set off.
My 2005 STX 4.6 fuel pump crashed a couple of months ago. A couple of days after having it replaced I started having hard/rough starting problems accompanied by a 0300 and 0301 code. I reset the codes several times and they only come back during the 3rd or 4th hard start, never while driving. The hard starts occur after the engine is shut off for more than a few minutes after driving. I have replaced the plugs, #1 COP, remaining COP boots, Cam Pos Sensor, Fuel pump drive module and had and FI. Also had the fuel pump replaced again on warranty thinking maybe a bad check valve. Again...it worked perfectly for a day and now I'm back to square one. Haven't gotten any codes YET but its only been a day. Bad injector? EGR?
View 1 RepliesMy auto tranny goes into "safe" mode every so often. It thinks there is something wrong and stays in third gear. The d4 indicator stays on even if another gear is selected (it's indicator light is on too). I changed the fluid (clear, red - in fine condition).
View 14 RepliesWhere I live people on the highway accelerate quickly. I try to stay in the EV range up to 15 mph but, when I do someone is up my rear end.
However, when I accelerate manually in EV mode I can accelerate up to 25 mph with the flow of traffic.
My concern with repeatedly accelerating up 25 mph in EV mode will be harder ( lessen the life ) on the battery or the transmission or the electric motors.
I'm guessing it's safe for the electric motors and the transmission because the plug in prius can accelerate up to 62 mph and it's fine.

a couple days ago.. I put water into the car cause the light came on. The next day the check engine light appeared. I drove the car and parked it for a few hours..
When I went back into the car the check engine light still appeared.. And not only that it went into SAFE MODE with all lights highlighted... PRND432..
My friend had his 2008 F150 Limited washed and they apparently decided to pressure wash the engine.
Now the check engine light is on, and it runs like crap. At least yesterday, today it won't even start.
What is broken? The codes said something about the throttle body?
