Took my truck in Friday for my first oil change at the dealer and they put Pennzoil in instead of Motorcraft. One would expect Ford would require their products in their sponsored dealerships. i didn't realize until I was home and placed a phone call to the service manager and have not got a return call.

Also, how often is everyone getting regular oil changes with the 5.0?
I have a 2013 5.0 and every time I change the oil filter the oil runs out the front and back of the cross member. That welded on oil catch plate doesn't work. The suspension is stock and I'm wondering if I lift the rear of the truck with a floor jack will it get the oil from the filter all run out the front of that catch plate?
View 9 RepliesMy wife purchased a new F150 4x4 in late 09. We have driven it about 5000 miles. It is garaged year around. Her brother offered to do the first oil change but can't get the filter off. He has tried every type of wrench and has the metal body of the filter nearly completely torn off up to the rim of the filter near the seat and it still won't screw off. we are thinking that is might have gotten cross threaded at the factory and over tightened.

So here's a different question:
3 owners, Art, Bob, and Charlie each believe in 5000 miles between changes.
Art drives 10,000 miles a year and changes it twice a year. No problem. Right?
Bob drives 5000 miles a year and changes it once a year.
Charlie is gone from home most of the time and only drives his vehicle to the airport, then back a couple weeks later. He does this once a month and it's 100 miles each way. Otherwise the vehicle sits.
So he drives 5000 miles in 2 years. Any problems there?
I am on top of my oil changes, but this is the first time I have seen the center display flash "change oil soon" and stay on until you hit the OK button. I went through the manual and I cannot find where there is a provision to clear the message. The oil was just changed, has maybe 600 miles on it.

View 7 RepliesI have the normally aspirated 3.7 V6. The ownersd manual talks about the trucks computer telling you when the oil changes are needed.....But, at 6500 miles, bnothing has come through. I have not changed the oil yet on it. I feel this is a huge sin, but am not sure.....I was raised you changed the oil every 2-3 grand. But the owners manual on this truck says the computer will tell you when to. Should I just go ahead and change it?

I just dropped the transmission oil pan and changed the filter. Put a new filter in. 5qt of oil came out, I put 5qt of oil back in. Oil level is right between the A and B hash marks.
I start up the truck and put it in gear and nothing happens. Its like the oil filter dropped and it isnt getting oil. I dont think this is possible because i watched it go in, the oil pan holds it, the seal came out with the old filter and the seal went in with the new one.
Am I missing something here? this oil change went just as well as any other tranny oil change i have done but the thing wont move.
I have a 2012 F150 XL. I don't have a message center, just a 2 line LED readout, and there is nothing in the owner's manual about resetting the "oil change required" message.

I recently got my oil changed at the dealership and yesterday when I did my periodic oil check, I noticed that the oil level is slightly higher than the "high" mark on the dipstick. Its about 4mm above the high line, maybe 5mm at most. I do not smell gas in the oil, and given that its been about a month since the change, I simply think that slightly too much oil was added.
My question is will a slight overfill like that affect this engine? I'm particularly worried about "frothing" of the oil by the crankshaft. I don't think that oil level is nowhere near to be "pushed" by pistons and affect my seals. Correct me if I'm wrong here. I drive on very flat terrain. So the question to those that have knowledge on how much clearance there is between the crankshaft and oil level in that engine is, do I leave as is or go back to the dealer to adjust. (Reason I ask is because I'm particularly busy with a project at work, and if I don't have to burn time to correct this I would rather not given my busy schedule.)
I wanted to change oil at 1000 miles on my new 2010 FX4. The dealer said that I should wait till 2500 miles or so because it still has the break in oil in it.
Does he know what he is talking about or should I change it? He did say he would change it and take my money if I really wanted to.
Maybe my thinking is still old school about changing the oil right away with a new engine.
Changing the front diff fluid on truck. I was looking at mine today and it looks like the top bolts will be difficult to reach.
I also tried to suck the fluid out of the fill hole but couldn't really fit a tube into the differential.
My truck just hit 110k on the clock, and i've never had the transmission fluid changed. Is this something that I am past due on changing or early? I don't know when it is supposed to be changed. If so is it something that you can do yourself?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2013 F150 FX2 5.0 motor that hit 16,000 miles. I took it yesterday to dealer for oil change. After 1 hour they advised me it was ready and that it was sitting outside. When I start the truck with my door open I notice a slight metal on metal sound coming from the driver side wheel well. Its not a constant taping sound. It more like its morse code. I called the service adviser. They take the truck, They came back 30 mins later and said. They hear the sound. Sounds like it coming from the bottom of the motor by the oil pain. They confirm its coming from the motor. I had 2 options.. Leave truck and let them dig into it or come back on Monday and drop the truck off. I left with the truck but will be returning on Monday. I spoke to a buddy mechanic and he said something is wrong and he believes they ran my truck without oil. He said maybe the tech started the truck and then realized he forgot the oil..

So I was wondering if I could get everyone's input on this. I recently got a 2013 FX2 5.0 with the 3.55 axle. I traded in a 2007 5.4 FX2. It seems everyday I learn something new. I would like to discuss the difference between both trucks. I will list a few DIFFRENCES and if you all could list a few more that would be great....I am sure there are some I don't know.
5.0 motor, 6 speed transmission, Electronic locking rear end, Electronic fans versus clutch fan system, Bigger rotors/ brakes, electronic power steering, no fuel cap, Power fold mirrors and I ASSUME I can remove these spark plugs without breaking them.
I noticed today my heater did not kick in when I started my truck and about 10 minutes into my drive I finally began feeling hot air. Soon after the air was no longer blowing hot. What this may be and how to verify the issue? I'm interested in taking care of this myself if it is easy/moderate level of difficulty to isolate issue and fix.

In the last several thousand miles (I have approximately 45,000 miles on it), the AM radio, which I listen to a lot, has the volume go up and down on its own. Very annoying. i took it to the dealer to have it analyzed and fixed and after 3 days, came back and said Ford said to start w replacing antennas (all) @ a tune of approximately $450, WITH NO GUARANTEES! Unbelievable! Then it that didn't work, replace the radio.
Well in reading some forums, it appears this has been going on a long time and it appears that Ford doesn't seem to care. This is the first Ford I've owned and I as a business owner, have owned many, many Chev PU's over the years with no problems. My 2010 Suburban doesn't have this problem w twice the miles.
Any issues with a rattle in the door? Sounds like from within?
Are these easy to take apart or would I be better off dropping off at the dealer to fix?
Just bought my 2013 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4 on Saturday. I noticed a vibration at 35 to 45 mph. Its a slight vibration, the whole truck kind of shakes. Really annoying for a truck with less than 200 miles.
View 14 RepliesI've noticed that my 2013 STX F150 4x4 5.0L shifts quite hard from 1st to 2nd. This clears up when I pull the battery cable for 30 minutes but comes back in about 2 weeks.
Is this a pretty normal thing?
