My truck has been shaking/jiggling like crazy after hitting a quick succession of bumps and potholes and won't stop until I bring my truck to a complete stop. Happened 4 or 5 times in my old '87 F250 over a period of months, happened 4 times starting yesterday with my '02. Heard it may be the steering damper shock.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2013 2wd - Steering Wheel Loose / Jerks When Hitting Bumps

Got my new truck last week and the steering is awful. Loose as a goose. Every bump that you hit jerks the steering wheel around. I changed the tires from the factory 80psi down to 60 for the front and 65 for the rear, didn't work much. On some big bumps it acts like I am losing control. It reminds me of the death wobble on my old 05 F250 which was 4wd. I thought that the 2wd independent suspension would be smoother.

It's got a sway bar up front can I add a steering stabilizer? If so who makes one? Everything else about the truck is great. The new 6.7 is quiet as a mouse and powerful. So far fuel economy is the same as my ecoboost. Haven't got to tow with it yet.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Pop Noise When Hitting The Brakes

Got a POP noise when I hit the brakes. I have to apply some pressure for it to make the sound. Does it once when going forward. Doesn't do it again until I drive a few minutes, then it does it again.

If I go back and forth between reverse and drive, it does it every time as I hit the brakes, but only once until reversing direction again.

Takes some moderate pedal pressure to make the noise. If I turn the steering wheel to either side, it doesn't make the noise.

I've gone over the brakes, nothing there is wrong, and besides it wouldn't go away when I turn the wheel. Nothing is loose in terms of tie-rod ends, wheel bearings, nothing.

It's not bad enough yet to be able to see movement in the ball joints when the wheels are off the ground. Is this the ball joints?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Ranch Hand Bumper Hitting Fenders

I noticed today my ranch hand bumped is hitting my fenders, when I originally installed it there was about a 1/2" gap.

All the bolts are tight, however it appears the mount that's attached to the frame is flexing and becoming weak as I can grab the bumper and rock it when it used to be rock solid.

Is there anything I can buy that will reinforce the bumper mounts that are connected to the frame to support this bumper???

Right now it's bolted up with 4 bolts on each side and no additional hardware.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Slight Wobble After Hitting A Bump In The Road

I purchased the truck from a used car lot about 3 months ago and after driving for a few thousand miles I am feeling a slight wobble after hitting a bump in the road. Here is my truck set up:

- 2011 Ford Lariat F250 4X4 FX4 6.7 ltr
- 67400 miles
- Tires stock and great tread
- Rancho steering stabilizer kit
- Rancho Shocks
- Rear air bags

It does appear one of the rancho stabilizer dampers is leaking slightly. Why would the previous owner install a rancho stabilizer kit? Is it because of the rear air bags?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 1987 F350 - Coolant Leaking Regularly?

I'm a total beginner and am slowly nursing an '87 F350 7.5L back to running condition as a plow/farm truck. It regularly loses coolant, even on very short trips around the farm and I figured that radiator needed to be replaced. Today I was hooking a snow plow up and had it running for about 15 minutes when light grey smoke started to come out of the vents in the cab. Looking at the engine, I noticed a lot of coolant leaking out from below the heater housing. The coolant was dripping out of what looks like a protruding bit of pipe a where a hose should be attached. What am I looking at here?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Horrible Whine When Turning Wheels Or Hitting The Brakes

1997 Super Duty 7.5 has a horrible "whine" when turning the wheels or hitting the brakes. Weird thing is, when I have the front end jacked up it goes almost completely away when turning the wheels. It is still there, and just as loud when I hit my brakes, but the brakes never were as loud as it was when I turned the wheels. I am guessing it is something to do with the steering gear or tie rod ends or something that I have absolutely 0 experience with....

More info on the problem: PS pump was always a bit noisy, but after the truck sat for a while (around a year, drove it every couple months for a few miles) it was ridiculous, so i replaced the pump, cycled all the old ATF out, made sure I had good pressure coming all the way back to the pump, several times. Never ran it dry.


The steering wheel (with wheels on the ground) kicks back on me and has a LOT of play in it before the PS pump kicks in and starts screaming. Jack the front end up, steering is nice and tight, no play, noise is there a BIT (with the hood up and cap off the PS pump) I would imagine under normal driving conditions i probably wouldn't even hear it much, if at all.

With my very limited mechanic knowledge I would assume that something is making it very hard for my wheels to turn, which is straining my PS pump, but what!?!?!?!?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Truck Pulling To Right When Hitting Brakes And Occasionally Brake Would Get Hot

My 02 F250 has me baffled. For a while the truck would pull to the right when hitting the brakes and occasionally the brake would get hot. To try and remedy this I put a new caliper and hose on the right front corner a new hose on the left front side. The truck still pulled right and the pedal got spongy even after bleeding the brakes 3 times. I got to checking the rest of the brakes and found a seized slide pin on the left rear. Got that fixed and still pulling right with a soft pedal. I've checked all of the sliders and none are seized. I am lost and I cant stand the soft pedal!

So I'm new to this, but heard that there a lot of great people on here that have tons of knowledge. So here goes. I have a 03 7.3 f250. I'm have trouble with the first initial 20 minutes of the truck starting. It starts fine but if I throw it drive and start to go it's shakes bad runs horrible and will sometimes stall out. If I let it idle for 15 to 20 minutes first and then drive it it runs perfect. I have replace the fuel filter, and air filter. The truck has roughly 125000 miles on it.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Tapping Noise In Cab While Going Over Bumps

Like a lot of our trucks, mine had the tap-tap-tap cab noise while going over bumps. It always sounded like it was coming from the passenger side doors. I have read many solutions, but have never been able to solve my noise issue. But, I may have found it....or more truthfully, my wife.

The other weekend we were out running errands. As she climbed into the cab and shut the door she commented that the handle above the passenger door was getting real loose. She wiggled it to demonstrate.

Tap-tap-tap.

Same noise....... ....I'll be dipped.

Got home, grabbed a socket wrench and tightened the 2 screws. They were like 3 turns loose.

Noise seems to be gone. Time will tell, but if you have"that noise" check the upper passenger grab handle.

I've had my f350 7.3 for about 5 years now, she's my work truck so I plow and do a lot of towing. Had moog upper and lower ball joints done about 4 years ago seeing I dident know much about trucks then. As I learned more I started doing stuff myself, did sway bar links cause I was getting a bad clunk going over certain bumps and it totally fixed it. Just replaced tie rod ends and shocks but I'm still getting this clunking it seems when the truck rocks side to side, when I leave my driveway apron every morning I can hear it. I did a balljoint check a few times moving the tire up and down to check for play but everything seemed tight, not sure if it could be bushings or what I'm stumped

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2001 F250 - Trans Slipping Accompanied By A Sound Like Hitting A Rev Limiter

I have a 2001 F250 SD 4x4 5.4L . I purchased the truck used with about 120,000 miles on it. It runs great despite averaging about 10.8 mpg. Shortly after I got the truck, I noticed what I thought was an intermittent transmission issue when the trans would shift. I would get a "flare" that lasted briefly as if the trans was slipping, but it was accompanied by a sound that I'm not sure how to describe, but it was somewhat like hitting a rev limiter. It only happened when the transmission shifted. The fluid was clean and did not smell burnt. I assumed it was a misfire issue, even though it did not happen often, and seemed to only happen at shift points. I changed all of the plugs and all of the coil packs. It still does the exact same thing. Sometimes it only does it once every couple of days, and other times it may do it 3 or 4 times a day.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Gravel Coming Off Front Wheel Hitting Bottom Of Running Board?

I put on huge mud flaps front and rear, have the platinum running boards, spray inner fenders on rear .....thought I had it covered....getting rock chip on front of rear fenders can see impact marks on hard plastic protector and upto 8 inches above it.....thought of 3m on Monday morning but is there anything else? I think the gravel is coming off front wheel hitting bottom of running board touching off road and getting me....can't think of any other way.

Alright i got a 2000 f250 with the 7.3 and its stick, when i let off the clutch to start moving, and at low speeds like mainly 1st and 2nd gear. Right below the cab there's a loud kinda growling or rumble, it shakes the truck a bit til i start moving good. Then it goes away. But what it could be? I think pilot bearing.

I was going to put new ball joints in but wimped out and had my mechanic do them. I'm too old to be doing that kind of crap. I just replaced the fuel pump with the correct one. That's enough under truck time for a while. 91,000 miles on the originals, stopped the rumble / rattle when I hit bumps in the front end. Getting the alignment Tuesday. Guess I got my money's worth out of them. Still has original brake pads too. Thinking of doing an upgrade to the brakes, drilled and slotted, I tow an RV and need it to protect the idiots that pull out in front of me. 2001, V10, CC ......

My 2013 f350 long bed diesel pickup has a noise in the front end when going over a bump such as a curb at low speed. It will also occur if turning onto a side street that is at a downhill grade. The vehicle has 4000 miles and is just at one year old. The noise sounds like a shock housing scraping on the shock or a very dry and rusty bushing. It also sounds similar to the anti-lock pulsing. I have had it to the dealer twice and they can not find a problem. The noise is very loud and easy to hear. I have gotten under the truck and looked around to see if I can find any evidence of rust and do not. Sometimes if I have my foot on the brake pedal when the noise happens I feel the anti-lock pulsing.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2001 - Over Bumps Rear End Very Rough?

I've got a 2WD 2001 F-250 P/S Super Duty that is almost bone stock. The only suspension work done is the addition of air bags which are deflated. Whenever I hit ant bumps it feels like the rear axle is gonna come up through the bed of the truck. I've changed the shocks and there's no change.

Cars and other trucks seem to take the same bumps like a Cadillac.

will go towards saving my marriage since I'm building a house 1/4 mile from a R/R crossing.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F550 Lost Power / Shakes And Dies

I have a 'new-to-me' Ford F-550 with the vaunted 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engine. The truck only has 120k miles and ran great when I bought it. Last week it began acting up. While driving on the highway, it lost power, began running rough, and once I pulled over, it died.

After a few minutes, I tried re-starting the truck, it started, but had little to no power....I could get up to 30-35mph and then it would slow down and lost all power. I let the truck sit for about 20 minutes while I refilled the diesel tank, it started right up and drove normally for another 10-15 minutes and then the same thing happened again.

The truck sat for a day and then drove normally for two entire days. This morning, it began acting up. It is the same as before..... what to do with this type of issue?

There is not a check engine light lit (yes, it works). The diesel is from a good source that is not causing problems in anything else. The truck is otherwise strong.
