Odd thing happened. All of a sudden the factory emblem on my 2008 tailgate totally lost all of its blue and is now pure chrome. Happened just like that.
Anyway, is it screwed on and do I need to pull the panel on the tailgate to remove it? Here's the tailgate on my truck for reference.
Problem is two fold. First......my grill "Ford" emblem is chipping and fading. Second....there is rust along the inside edge of the tailgate near the weep holes. I have been told the rust must perforate the area in order for it to be covered by warranty. Truck is pretty close to pristine condition and two service reps said rust is coming from the inside of the tailgate. Doesn't make sense to me to wait for the rust to get really nasty before it being covered by warranty. I bet a new tailgate cost more than that!!!! Hey whats the deal with the eroding "Ford" emblem??? Looks like the coating is flaking off and letting the blue paint fade away. I don't think this is normal but that too doesn't seem to be covered by warranty !! Maybe I should think twice about my next vehicle !!!!! Comments ??????
View 14 RepliesI have a 2008 F250 that the tailgate has always been real easy to open and close until the other day I could not get it to latch so i slammed it and it did latch and it worked a few days but now it won't latch at all. I can open and close the latch with the tailgate down but nothing I do will make it latch in place. I've tried spraying with PB blaster it didn't work. Not sure if its out of adjustment or what.

Have a 2008 F-350 crew cab 4x4 lariat with 20" wheels on it. Tire size is very limited/expensive. Can I replace the 20" wheels with 18" or 17"? I was told it depends on the size of the brakes. How do I check that, short of buying "test" wheels? I am old school and would rather have more tire and less rim, than the other way around.

Also, any way to tie the tailgate into the alarm system (similar to the way the hood is). I'm guessing that you could possibly tap into the wiring under the hood and add a switch/contact at the tailgate... Also, how would this interfere with engine immobilizer, etc?

View 7 RepliesLooking to sell my '12 F-250 turbo diesel Lariat. She's in great condition, and only 8000 miles. Her only sore point is some scratches and scuffs on the plastic cap on the top edge of the tailgate (see picture below). I think it's part # BC3Z-9940602-B.
How to remove this cap, preferably without breaking/scratching anything else. It looks like there are no external fasteners, so I'm guessing it's just held on with clips on its underside, or some such. It might be more obvious once I get and examine the replacement part, but just figured I'd ask.
I left town and accidentally left the tailgate on my 2011 F250 SuperDuty unlocked. It was stolen.
Found a replacement, replaced the broken handle, installed new key lock, transferred to camera and plugged it in. My rear-view mirror is not receiving the signal, just a blue screen. Is there something else I need to do to complete the process of connecting the camera.
I just bought a 'new to me' 2005 F250, Crew Cab with a v10. The Carfax showed up clean but after doing some detailing on it, I realized it had been resprayed and there was a little wrinkle in the bumper. I tried using the ignition key to lock the tailgate but it didn't work, so I'm assuming its been replaced. Need to confirm that the ignition key should be the key that works the tailgate lock or is the tailgate a different key that they guy never gave me?

Ive got a headunit that will do it but I dont like how any of the aftermarket one really look and I dont like most of the locations to mount or the angle they mount at. So my question is will a tailgate handle from say a 2010 that has the factory hole for a backup camera fit in the spot of my 2001 tailgate handle? I have to replace the handle anyways since it broke this past weekend, thought Id add the camera while I was at it if I can get it to work like I want.

Have found step and handle available (OEM) but need to know how hard/easy to install it on our current tailgate. I gather from another post the handle part is easy but what about the step itself?

View 14 RepliesI just had the bed and tailgate on my 2004 replaced with a 2015. The body shop took my old lock cylinder out to put in the new tailgate. The old tailgate is only a year old and I wanted to sell it. The issue is that the latch will not open the tailgate. I can manually unlatch it by pulling the rods. Does the lock cylinder not being installed somehow affect this and need to be installed for it to function properly or do the rods simply need to be adjusted?

We didn't realize the installation of the cap would mean we lost the review camera when the tailgate was removed (DUH). We loved the review camera for hooking up our trailer and are wondering if there is any way to reinstall it on the cap. Or, purchase another camera and integrate it into the existing Ford screen......with the guidance lines?
