Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Low Pitched Humming Noise Coming From Passenger Side Of Engine

Jun 23, 2013

I've been noticing a low pitched humming noise coming from what sounds like the passenger side of the engine. it happened only occasionally at first but within a week of first hearing it, it is now almost all the time. here is some specifics...

-the noise always starts about 2 or 3 seconds after starting the engine.
-the pitch or loudness does not change with increased rpms or with truck in gear driving.
-the noise randomly stops for no given reason whether driving or idling then starts back up again.
-there are no performance issues while making noise, no dip in rpms, nothing. still runs the same

I've listened with the hood up and cant identify where the noise is coming from. is this something i need to get fixed asap or no? I've got a 2001 f250 5.4 with a manual tranny ....

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2002 - Humming Noise Coming From Engine

2002 5.4L... I have a humming noise that comes from my engine and wanted to see if any of yall knew anything about it. I sounds like it's on the other side on the driver side firewall near the brake booster. Once the engine runs for a bit it tends to start then. It'll start to hum then ill tap the gas to get the RPMs up a bit then its gone for couple miles then its right back on.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Ticking Noise From Passenger Side Follows Engine Speed

I have a tick in my 2001 V10, 190,000 (mostly easy) miles. I've changed oil/filter regularly at 3,000 mile intervals using Valvoline 5W20.

The tick seems to be on the passenger side of the engine, and is loudest when the engine is cold. It follows engine speed. The tick seems to be loudest as the engine transitions from acceleration to deceleration when I lift the throttle--I've NOT seen that posted before.

So, an exhaust manifold leak seems to be the most obvious? I installed a Banks Power Pack with Torque Tube headers in 2009 (about 90,000 miles ago) using thread lock compound on the supplied bolts and torqued to the instructions--I don't' remember the torque setting, but will look it up. I've listened to each exhaust port with a mechanic's stethoscope, all I hear is a smoothly running rotating assembly! Same result with the stethoscope on either side of the front cover (for timing chain slap.) NO tick through the stethoscope! I plan to check all the header bolts' torque this weekend, but don't really expect to find a problem. I will also scoot under the truck and recheck all the exhaust pipe clamps.

I've also listened to all the injectors--two of them (#3 and #4) were noticeably quieter than the other eight. But, none of them stood out as being particularly noisy. I've seen a couple of threads here that asked what a normal injector should sound like, but never an answer. How they should sound?

I've listened to each coil. I can hear a slight arc on #3. I believe the spring in the boot is not seated on the coil tab correctly (happened before.) I will correct that this weekend also. Nothing sounded like a loose plug, though I don't really know what that would sound like with the stethoscope.

What else could/should I check to avoid removing the valve/cam covers? (For cam follower or rocker trouble). I don't mind doing that, but don't want to go to the trouble and then find it wasn't necessary. I may spin on a Motorcraft filter (I'm just 800 miles into the last oil change now, I usually use Fram) but the tick stays with me until the engine is normal operating temperature, so I don't think it is from bleed back.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2004 F250 - Humming Noise From Engine At Idle

I have a 2004 ford f250 5.4 and ithe makes a Humming noise only at idle. I have checked the fan clutch. it seems to be good and does not spin freely. I was thinking maybe idle air control valve but the truck idles like normal and does not stall. the sound does go away when squeezing the air hose doing today the IAC but comes back as soon as you let off. can it still be the idle air control valve if idles fine and doesn't stall?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2006 F250 5.4L - Water Coming Into Cab On The Passenger Side Only

I had have a problem with water coming into my cab on the passenger side only. 2006 Ford F250 SC 5.4L XLT 4x4

My truck has been parked for a few days and we had lots of rain in our area. I notice the floor carpet on the passenger side was wet. I did not use the heater or A/C at any time for the pass month. The water is coming in from under the dash on the passenger side only. I shook the truck and water starts pouring out of this black unit. If you look inside you can see a fan. I'm guessing a heater unit.

Can a drain be clogged on the outside under the wiper guard? I will try to remove the plastic guards tomorrow and see if anything is wrong.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Smell And Heat Coming Off Of Passenger Side Rear Tire

Noticed something weird the other day I was driving into town and noticed it was getting hard to take off like the truck needed more power or like the ebrake was slightly on I get to my aunts house and notice that I can smell and feel heat coming off of the passenger side rear tire so I get closer and notice that the brake is locked up. what could cause this? and another weird thing about a year and half ago this same thing happened to my mother in law as she was driving the truck and me and my father in law replaced the brake caliper and replaced both rotors and pads on both rear tires and I used a good amount of grease on the slide pins so to keep the pins from seizing up. and now it locked up again what could cause this?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 V10 - Inconsistent Tapping Coming From Passenger Side Valve Cover

I just bought myself a 2003 F250 XLT with the V10 in it. Low miles, not beat, 6 speed, very happy with it. I noticed today that there was an inconsistent tapping coming from the passenger side valve cover. I searched online and was pointed towards the PCV baffle. I pulled the breather hose off and stuck my finger in the hole, and the baffle is indeed detached. Now I know that I need to pull the valve cover now to at least remove the baffle; is there anyway to reattach the baffle, or do I need to buy a new valve cover?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Crunching / Clunking Noise Coming From Passenger Front Suspension

2012 truck, started making a noise today. I cannot tell what it is, but seems to be coming from the passenger front suspension, its a crunching/light clunking sound, happens when going over bumps, when the truck pitches one way or the other turning, and coming to a stop....

Truck has 6k miles, I did a quick visual inspection this afternoon, didn't notice much, but the sway bar endlink looked a bit odd though, not sure if normal, its gota little bend too it and seems to just contact the vac line mounted behind it, seemed unusual...

Maybe its its just one of the crappy rancho branded shocks is junk?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2006 F250 - Low Pitched Whine Coming From Rear End

I bought my 06 F250 with the V10 just 2 months ago. I have just a hair over 100k miles on it. A few weeks ago I started hearing this low pitched whine coming from the rear end - and my mechanic found metal shavings in the oil for the rear differential. It starts around 15 mph when I accelerate and it kinda sounds like a real low pitched turbo winding down as I come to a stop.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 2WD - Rattling Thumping Noise Under Front End On Passenger Side

I have a 2003 F-250 6.0L 2WD and I recently noticed a rattling thumping noise under the front end on the passenger side. I noticed the rattle shortly after I got new tires, which are a hair bigger than the tires I had on it before. I thought it might be my new tires rubbing since they were bigger but then I noticed the rattle when I had my wheel straight and also when not moving at all. I've been driving it for a couple of weeks now with this rattle and I've been able to determine that it rattles most when I am going downhill and turning to the left putting more of the weight of the truck on the front right suspension components.

After reading several threads my first attempt to find the problem lead me to the discovery of a worn sway bar bushing. I thought this was for sure the problem and replaced both bushings and end links. But the rattle didn't go away. Then I thought maybe it was a bad wheel bearing so I replaced the wheel bearings in both front wheels. Still no change. Lastly, I happened to find a loose ABS line in the front right wheel well that was no longer secured and was banging against plastic. I secured that and still no change. All the bushings seem to be in good shape so I am considering taking it to a mechanic since I don't want to just replace everything hoping that it solves the problem piece by piece.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Ticking Noise Coming From Right Side When Push The Accelerator

2002 Ford F-250 5.4l ... What is the difference in sound between a lifter tick and an exhaust leak? I have a ticking noise, almost sounds more like a puff of air noise, it only makes the noise when I push the accelerator and is coming from the right side. Noise is most noticeable if I put my head under the passenger side front fender. I am guessing I have an exhaust leak somewhere between the heads at cat but just wondering about the difference in sound. I'd think if it were the lifters they would tick at idle, right? The truck sounds great at idle (after doing a tune up) I just want to get rid of this annoying tick when I accelerate.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Medium Pitched Grinding - Gear Noise?

I have a 2016 Superduty. I was sitting still in the drive, engine running and Tx in Park. Following the manual's instructions, I put the Tx in Neutral, turned the 4x4 to 4x4 high and then to 4x4 low. I then pulled the to engage the electric locking rear diff. I put the Tx in Reverse with the foot still on the brake and then as I gradually lifted pressure off the brake pedal (I think) and started creeping, I heard a medium pitched grinding; not so much like spur, helical, or hypoid teeth grinding; more like cog gears. I stopped the truck and disengaged everything. Later in the day while on dirt I put her through her paces proper and all was fine. I guess I'd like to just know, given that this is my first 4x4 with so much electric shifting, what actually happened. If you are pretty sure of what I heard but are puzzled by the sequence, I could have the order of things a bit off as my brain was just about wiped completely free of all memory when I heard that sound so I may have the order of what I actually did, wrong.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Truck Makes A High Pitched Whining Noise

I noticed my truck makes a high pitched whining noise. It does it at idle and while acceleration up to 40 mph or so. The pitch of the wine increases with RPM'S. It is not the cold start whine issue I have researched on YouTube.

It is in the cold or warmth. No difference. It's always there. My 2012 6.2 did not sound like this at all. I have crawled under the truck and it appears like it is coming from the transmission.

Sounds like a pump or a release of air? Is this a normal function or should i have it checked out. I've searched around but found very mixed answers.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2006 - Grinding / Humming Noise - Bad Wheel Bearings?

I have an '06 F-250 that's making a quiet grinding/humming noise from what sounds like the front end. It doesn't seem to be coming from any side in particular, just an omnipresent noise whenever the truck is moving. It's constant with speed, and most noticable between 30-60 KPH.

Truck has about 268,000 KM on it right now, and has been worked pretty hard for whatever that's worth as well.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2011 - Hissing Noise Coming From Engine Compartment Under Acceleration

Looking for some input on a recent "hissing" noise coming from eng compartment. It's only noticeable during initial acceleration, and sometimes at the beginning of gear changes. I am assuming its tubo and/or exhaust related, as I've noticed a strong exhaust odor in the cab as well. I wasn't under load when the problem started but i was under rapid acceleration. Not noticing any fluids or oils leaking. No warning lights have tripped, as of yet.

Every time I apply brakes I hear a weird humming noise, as well as no stopping power. Checked fluids and pads and everything is where it should be. I heard abs can cause this but not sure on that. I know my master cylinder has a very small leak but it hasn't lost any fluids of that sort. I'm lost. I don't know where else to look.
