I got the car like that. When I take off hard there is a crack somewhere in the front. Then when I stop hard it cracks too. What could it be??? Sometype of bushing??
View 1 RepliesI have a 377 gti 2002 and just the other day i had some hesitation on take off. it sounded like the engine was cutting the fuel, at the time i had an o2 sensor code so i replaced the o2 and got new spark plugs while i was at it. it was still hesitating and cutting out so i figured it might be the maf because ive already replaced it once, i cleaned it and still doing the same things. i called my local vw/audi shop (audub) and he said it might be the pcv valve. i checked to see if there was air sucking in through the oil dip stick and the oil cap. its running just fine at idle and it seems that in first and second gear that its hesitating at 1000-2000 rpm and the higher gears are fine. could a leak cause this or is the pcv system bad?
View 7 RepliesMy 20th has been having a starting issue and I've honestly tried everything I can think of, this issue just randomly started one day the car will not start on first crank it starts second or third every time. After it's started and running it runs perfect its just getting it started.
I've replaced the Crankshaft sensor, Camshaft sensor, Coolant temp sensor, the car has had new injectors (440) installed about two months ago, has the new battery. My father is a mechanic and he has also tried everything he knows to do and we asked our local VW specialist and he said to try the things we have already did. Ran codes when the issue started and it only came up with camshaft sensor and we replaced that and cleared the code still nothing. Once this issue started we parked the car and started troubleshooting and the oil was low? even though I know before the issue started it was good and full. the car has a stage two intronic tune, 440 injectors, secondary air delete and all and a shaved and partially tucked bay, there are no resistors is the open unused sensors.
just found my cranksensor was dead.. on the highway today.. sooo!.. can som1 tell me where is that sensor exactly so i can change it today.
View 1 RepliesThere wasn't even a crank. Held the ignition for a couple of seconds and it starts. The next day I had the battery and the alternator checked, they were both good. Another couple days passed and it did not want to start again. Got it scanned no codes come up. I changed the ignition switch and still I have the same problem with no crank.
View 8 RepliesSo today as I was pulling my handbrake after parking the car, apparently it snapped, so np, taking it tomorrow to the garage for a fix. Anyways had an urgent outing, started the car and went for a 10 mins drive. I didn't give it enough time to warm up. So finished what i had to do, got back in the car, tried to start it, nothing. Took me two tries and 20 seconds of cranking before the car would start. started with EPC light on, drove it nothing wrong in it, except the check EPC light is on. What it might be?
View 3 RepliesSo, yesterday I had my GLI in the shop to put a new timing belt on as well as some ECS Lightweight Pulleys. When I went to pick up the car, they did not install the pulleys. The reason they said was because the stock crank pulley has a dampener which keep vibration and balanced weight on the crank assembly and that the lightweight crank does not have these benefits.
So, now I have a set red anodized pulleys.. [URL].............
So driving on the highway my car died. It would crank but not start. Got it towed. This is what I have done to troubleshoot.
1. Swap ECUs. The car should start for a second and shut off because the car doesnt match with the ECU. Still just crank and no start.
2. Fuel pump still primes when I open the door. I also hear a weird air leaking noise when I reconnect the battery, but I think it comes from the fuel pressure regulator (which I think is normal).
3. Checked for current at the ecu wires, wasn't sure what to look for but it was getting numbers.
4. Battery had 12.1 volts running through it (Haynes said 12.5 but is that really much of a difference?
5. Checked spark plugs for spark. Pretty sure we did it right, but there was still no spark. We tried multiple times.
6. Scan car, get code P01314 twice (ECM error).
7. Try to clear codes, says Comm error.
Why am I not getting spark? and why is the ECU error occurring, because we tested with a new ecu, and there was still no start, not even for a second like there should be.
I get a ticking niose when i crank the wheel all the way to the left or right and reverse .. What it could be (its fine when I drive forward)....
View 2 RepliesSo I've been noticing that my GLi is tough to put into first gear sometimes. I feel almost like I have to jam it in place and hold it there, it doesn't just click in. Could this be the shifter cable ends or the cables themselves? Its weird... its only ever been a problem for 1st gear though.
View 15 RepliesSo I did a couple searches and found a couple MK3's with this issue however I did not find anything for the MK4.
The last couple days, we have been over 90 degrees in the afternoon. My black 03 20th 1.8t sits on the side of the road at work in the direct sun from 12:30 (lunch) until 5pm when I get off.
The last 2 days, when I have gone to start it, it cranks and cranks for 5-8 seconds before it starts to catch and finally stumbles to life. Once its running, everything feels fine. If I turn the car off and restart it, it starts fine.
In the mornings in the garage, evenings when its cooler or leaving for lunch before the day has gotten really hot, it starts fine. It only seems to be affected after sitting in the direct afternoon heat for a few hours.
I have read vapor lock, dying crank position sensor, ignition issues, starter etc. I am going to rule out the starter as the car cranks like normal. It simply does not fire.
Sometimes (most of the time), when I shift from first to second, its either hard to do or it "pops" into gear. There's not like a grinding gear but it sounds like it is hitting something as it goes into gear. If I go 1st to 2nd while stopped, it goes in nice and smooth. It sort of feels like how you can't shift into 1st while you are moving slowly, you have to push on it a bit and then it finally pops in.
View 8 RepliesSo tonight at 8:30 I started up my car to get ready to leave work. I turned my light switch to activate the headlights and I only saw the amber light on the wall in front of me. I was worried because I need headlights in order to get home. I tried activating the fogs and turning the switch on and off but only my parking lights were working. I turned the car on and off a few times and all of a sudden the headlights finally turned on. I drove around town afterwards to run errands and the headlights were turning on just fine. What would cause this issue and I really don't want it to get to the point where I can't drive my car at night.
View 8 RepliesMy 20th Ann. Is jerking under acceleration. When I hit the gas pedal slightly hard it starts jerking. Every once in a while the CEL will flash on and off. I changed the spark plugs and coil packs, cleaned the MAF, and now I have no real direction where to go. Maybe it could be a vaccum problem...
View 4 RepliesIt all started after it being cold outside it's hard to shift into second gear when i first start up the car, and then after a couple shifts like that i get a notchy shift. after a while of driving it all disappears.
View 3 RepliesI just recently bought a 337 edition gti and I absolutely love it. But the guy I bought it from says that it was chipped but he doesn't know what brand tune it is. But the problem, like the title suggests, is that in first gear the car pulls incredibly hard but as soon as I shift into second I lose all my momentum and it just feels sluggish.everyone that I've seen on these threads have said that I should be getting the most power I'm second and third gear. Is this tune just not a good one? Could there be something more?
View 7 RepliesI just rolled 100k in the 337. Time to do some refreshing. 2 noticeable issues (non-motor related anyway )
1 - sometimes when turning hard left to right, or vice versa, I hear and feel a "cluck", almost like the something is shifting.
2 - I've got a creak from the front (and I think maybe the back too) when I get out of the car. Sometimes I hear it when I slowly go over a bump as well.
3- I think my rear shocks are on the way out.
In the last 15k I replaced both the inner and outer tie rods. That's all I've done to the suspension.
My gli has some trouble sometimes starting when parked upwards on a hill, I am thinking its the fuel pump..?
View 6 RepliesI have a 20th with 106k on it and I notice mostly my right front rubbing on hard turns. Suspension is totally stock other than a 28mm rear sway. Is it possible that's causing it or is my suspension just getting old? No spacer on the fronts.
View 9 RepliesI have an Imola 20th and recently i have been having some problems with my clutch. The pedal goes from being soft to very hard when its close to disengaging. It also engages very heavily when I go to let it out. This only started happening recently when temperatures started to drop if this has any effect on a clutch. Also, I replaced a shift fork two months ago and was curious if there was possibly anything going on with seals around the slave cylinder.
View 2 RepliesI have a 05 gli I just put a k04 turbo on. It runs on stock ecu but I have been told that's not the problem. When I start the car the rpm's spike to around 3 grand then slowly drop to normal idle rpm's when it gets under 1000 rpms the car starts to shake and idle hard. Idk what it is Cel is on and read misfires in 3 of 4 cylinders but checked plugs and everything they r fine. I'm thinking maybe vacuum leak or something along those lines.
