My car started making a kinda rubbing noise when I'm driving and turning all the way to the left or right, do I damaged the power steering? I know there was a thread about this but I can't find it,
View 4 RepliesI have a 2013 Honda Accord that 3 times over the last 30 days the power steering has quit working while making a left or right turn from a stop. Once I muscle the car out of the intersection, I can turn it off and then restart the engine which seems to reset the steering. All 3 times I have taken it back to the Honda service center of the dealer where I purchased it, and all 3 times they can find absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Honda's policy is that they won't fix/replace anything unless they have a direct problem to fix. This is getting frustrating because I consider it a safety issue. Now I don't know what to do. They refuse to do anything until they can see the car with the issue. If it ever happens at a time when I can leave it running and have them send a tow truck to pick it up, I will. But that could take months, years or never.
The other day I hit a good size bump at speed, slightly bent a wheel which I didn't even notice at first. The car drove straight and had no other symptoms, thought everything was okay. A couple days later I heard a weird grinding noise while making a left hand turn, it was so faint I honestly thought it was the fender liner. After the noises continued and further examination I noticed that the carrier is rubbing the rotor on the lower drivers side corner.

View 10 RepliesI'm getting this weird sound when i turn on my car and turn the steering wheel left and right not even a full lock just left and right really quickly or slow there is this annoying clunking coming form both of the front wheels atleast thats what i think it is and it feels as something is loose but i checked most of the bolts.. Recently i changed my front wheel bearings inner cv and outer cv joints on both front wheels.. i changed my ball joints and tie rods everything was change within a 4-5months..
Also the other day as i was driving and i could only hear this 20mph and up this weird clunking and vibration in the floor.. no vibration in the steering wheel just the floor and clunking sound.. i know for a fact i need an alignment and possibly new tires.. but what would the clunking be coming form when driving or just parked in place while moving the steering wheel...
Just noticed a new sound. When making left turns only, a sound comes from the right. Sort of continuous high pitched. What is wrong?
View 12 RepliesSo 2 months after my accident I'm finally able to drive again and my car is 100% fixed and ready. Only 1 problem, every time I make a left turn my car makes this weird noise but I don't know what it is. I replaced my suspension and I thought it would take a couple days for the tightness to wear down and for the noise to go away, but of course with my luck it's still doing it. What can it be??
View 5 RepliesA while back as I was driving, I heard some sort of clunk, and the steering wheel locked and would not turn left. It then unlocked after a few seconds. Ever since then, it has been very hard to turn to the left (and right, at slow speeds and on sharp turns, but much easier than turning left). This happened a few days after I replaced both front end struts and inner tie rod ends, and got an alignment - they were cheap quick struts (entire assembly), but seem to be of fairly good quality.
Initially after some consultation I thought it was the power steering pump, so I replaced that. It became easier to turn right, but still very hard to turn left. I took the front end off the ground and turned the wheel all the way left and right, no problem or resistance. I am nearly certain it is not the pump.
At this point, I am fairly certain it is either the steering gear or some part of the rack and pinion. I am planning on getting the assembly replaced. The fastest and cheapest way is apparently to just buy the entire steering gear/r&p assembly. Would bad strut mounts ever cause an issue like this? Any other possibilities besides the steering linkage?
Took my car in for 10k mile service and let them know there has been some clicking noise coming from the front suspension when making a left/right turn...
I dropped off my car on September 21st and they have yet to complete my car... I've called them every single day since but, I don't get a good explanation from the dealer...
I've had my R since late mid-summer, and one of the first things I noticed was this clunk sound when reversing into my parking spot and when making an aggressive sharp turn. Usually Left.
After reading multiple threads on this topic, I came to the conclusion that it was my sub-frame and the bolts need replacing. I got in a GB for the tyrol subframe stiffening kit after reading some good reviews/responses.
Today, on my day off, I finally went to a mechanic to get this installed. I just changed my mechanic, and this was my first visit to the guy hes had over 10 years experience at vw and just opened up his own shop. He did a great job, torqued the bolts to spec, made me drive around, do some pulls in 2nd and 3rd gear, reverse forward etc.
So hes about to pull the car back in to retorque and.... CLUNK...
Get in the car, reproduce the sound, get the car back up on the hoist... and at this point I'm expecting the worse. He takes my control arms off, checks the end links...
Brings the car down, and the clunking sound is louder than ever. It was the weathergaurd. When I turned on the wheel it was pulling it out and when I straightened the wheel it was popping it back into place, making a big clunk sound.
This was the exact sound that I was hearing, thinking it was my subframe. The bolts that came out were not stretched or bent out of shape like the ones you see in other reviews. They're actually in great shape. I'm glad I did the Tyrol kit and do not regret it, and I definitely feel a difference when I went into some aggressive turns.
its possible to repair? or only a new one it's the solution? cause my gti 1.8t it's making a sound like tssshhh when i turn the steering wheel. I change the power steering rack.
View 2 RepliesI am having a problem with my 2007 R32 manual,over the last few weeks its developed a whining noise in what seems to sound from the rear left side,more so when driving around a left hand corner (weight is off the noisy side),or when i let my foot off the gas and let the car run,ive jacked it up and when I grab the back left drive shaft and shake it, I found there's a bit of play on the side going into the diff, there's 70000 miles on it and no problems to date, looking for some info on what problem could be?
View 6 RepliesI've been having this moaning noise coming from either my wheel bearings or something else. I'm not quite sure what exactly it is, but it's real bad when I'm making left lane changes and going straight. when I turn right, or lane change right, it's silent.

View 8 RepliesI picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.

View 6 RepliesI just replaced my rotors, and tie rod ends on both sides. Now I have a clunking noise when I turn left. I also have erratic steering, the car swerves when I take a slight left, and I have to turn further to the right to get it to swerve back straight. If I hit a bump, car swerves left. Is this an alignment issue? I haven't taken it to get aligned yet, everywhere around here is closed. Could it be the Axle?

View 7 RepliesLately my 2007 Camry (2.4 L, Auto) has developed a bit strange problem. When I'm driving on highway, even slight left turn results in a grinding noise and sort of resistant steering wheel. It happens only when I turn left. As soon as steering wheel gets back to straight, the noise and steering wheel resistance/hardness goes away. I don't really feel much when I'm driving slow on the city streets. Although some time when I am little bit fast, I feel slight grinding noise and steering hardness. No problem in turning right at all.
