Touareg :: 2004 - Premature Tire Wear And Faulty Wheel Alignment On V8

Premature tire wear and faulty wheel alignment issues on 2004 Touareg V8 with 10,000 miles. My dealer informed me that my original tires, Continental 4X4 Contact 255/55R18s were about to need replacement and that there were known issues with the tire compound and alignment specifications. I have had the vehicle about 14 months. He said it was over twelve months but he would bring it up with the district representative. I told him that I thought this came under concealed defects and I expected VW to replace the tires and align all four wheels to whatever the current spec. Are there VW bulletins covering this I can obtain copies of?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Front Brake Rotors Premature Wear

I have a 2014 Supercab Ecoboost F150, which has 37k KM on it (23k miles). I work at sea for 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off so the truck sits a fair bit. I had it in the dealer for scheduled servicing and they noticed the inside pads on both front brakes were wearing significantly more than the outside (4mm vs 7mm). The lube guy at the time had suggested sticking calipers and that they'd be warranty.

A few days later I brought the truck back in to have the brakes looked at and an unrelated warranty item done. They looked and said the calipers aren't sticking and the rotors are grooved and rusted, particularly the inside surface. They wanted to put new pads on and turn the rotors for 400 bucks.

I had a hard time believing it wasn't the calipers, and I was having a hard time getting a good explanation from the service writer of what was going on. So I took the truck back and pulled the pass side tire off in the driveway to take a good look.

As far as I can tell, the calipers are free. The slide pins are nicely lubed and are free, and the pads are free to move in the anti-rattle clips. I squeezed the piston back with a set of C clamps and it seemed to be good. Also, the pads are wearing more or less evenly (not tapered or anything), just the inside is worn significantly more than the outside.

So, rotors wearing out in 23k miles? They aren't really warped, just heavily grooved. My theory at this point is that the weeks the truck spends sitting allows too much corrosion to build up on the rotor, which is getting caught up and wearing down the pads and rotor. Maybe the outside of the rotor isn't nearly as bad because it gets hosed down and washed more frequently?

Inside rotor surface

Outside rotor surface

Inside pad surface.

I still have 7 months of bumper to bumper warranty. Ford says the only cover brakes if the damage is caused by a caliper, so I think I'm out of luck on that front.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Front Leveling Kit Causing Premature Wear

Previous owner of my truck installed a front leveling kit (2" aluminum shims under the coil spring seats) and was told by a dealer that it definitely lead to the wear and tear on the front end, specifically the track bar and track bar ball joints. They also stated it causing the truck to still pull to the left even when aligned because the geometry was off. My truck has 56k miles on it.

I was informed of this after months of trying to correct the death wobble. After 4 alignments at NTB, I took it to the dealer for diagnoses. I paid them to do the labor of replacing the track bar, but elected to remove the leveling spacers myself. Came out in about 45 mins, but had to purchase the shorter stock seat bolt from the dealer which was only available as a package with the coil spring seat...

Truck now rides better and seems perfectly aligned, before it pulled hard to the left. Wish I would have known about this earlier...

Golf V R32 :: Excessive Tire Wear On The Front

Having issues with excessive front tire wear? I have had the alignment checked by two VW garages and a third party garage and all of them confirm that the alignment is good.

The VW garage also confirmed that as far as they can see there is no suspension issues, but the excessive wear on the front tires indicates that something is wrong.

I have owned the car since new in 2008 so know it has a clean history no accidents.

Both front tires look like this.....

I noticed the passenger front tire wearing on the inside, I have no camber plates. Presuming alignment is still good could this be from a worn strut mount?

Golf - Volkswagen :: Rear Tire Wear Causing Pulling To The Right?

I just had the tie rods replaced and a front end alignment on my VW Golf. The tires that were on the front were moved to the back because of some wear on the inside edge. The tires currently on the front look brand new, but the car pulls to the right more than it did before I had any of the work done. The place where I got the work done told me I would need to replace the two tires with wear but they are still in mostly good condition. They are telling me now the pulling is because the tires on the rear have wear. Can wear on rear tires really cause my car to pull so significantly to the right? The tires are only two years old. I do not want to replace them yet. The car front wheel drive.

Golf IV R32 :: Upgrade Stock Suspension / Adding Adjustable Rear Control Arms To Eliminate Tire Wear

So my strut mounts are shot and I wanted to add adjustable rear control arms to eliminate tire wear. So thinking of going with Bilstein HD's with the stock springs. Oh and BTW want to keep stock ride height since it is my daily. The only option I would consider for springs would be the euro version of the stock springs.

Camry :: Uneven Tire Wear With 2011 SE

I have a 2011 Camry SE which I leased brand new from a dealership in Ottawa. It has about 35,000 KMs on it. After my last regular maintenance at the dealership (32K oil/filter change with tire rotation etc.), I started noticing a sound coming from the tires. The sound is like low pitch boom boom boom boom. I tool it to the dealdership and they told me there is uneven wear on the tire which is normal for Camry SEs because they have wider tires that easily scallop during hard cornering.

Firstly, I do not buy that explanation because it's not the first car I have driven with a little wider tires. Secondly, I do not drive rough as most of the times I have my kids in the car with me. Lastly, I would think that if you are selling sports tuned cars, you would choose appropriate tires for it so buyers can drive it like a sports car.

I wonder why the situation became noticeable after the tire rotation. According to the rep at the dealership, all 4 tires have uneven wear so should I not have noticed it before the rotation?

Passat (B5) :: Front Passenger Tire Is Getting Some Inner Wear On It

I notice that my front passenger tire is getting some inner wear on it. The tire doesn't even have 5k on it. I know I should get an alignment that's a must but is there something that might be wrong with it anyways since its just the front passenger?? Balljoint, tierod end and etc?? I don't really have a local auto shop that I trust 100% so I don't want them to be like, there is 3 balljoints out and etc. I had the inner tierods (both) and a few balljoints fixed last year and then got an alignment done. Any tips??

Prius (2004-09) :: Some Unusual Wear On The Inner And Outer Tire

I decided to get an alignment (for the first time since I took delivery of the car). I noticed some unusual wear on the inner and outer tire. I will post a before and after pic of the alignment. As you can see they were unable to correct everything.

The shop says that the prius does not have any way to correct camber in the front nor was there any way to correct the toe in the rear.

I cannot think of anything that would have messed up the rear left. The shop was saying these repairs will need either a new control arm or strut.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Unusual Tire Wear

I have a 2005 Prius with 128,000 miles. At the last service the mechanic pointed out that the front tires were wearing significantly on the outside. I had them do an alignment but the before numbers were hardly out of spec. Everything was in spec except the front right camber - it was right at the limit (negative). Everything else was perfect. I would have expected only significant positive camber on both sides would cause both front tires to wear on the outside, when everything else was in spec?

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Tire Wear - Cupping Due To Car Being Out Of Alignment

I have 3 new tires and 1 with wave or cupping wear. It is a new tire not even a year used. I went in to get my alignment fixed because I was told the cupping is due to car being out of alignment. They told me I have to replace the tire with the cupping wear on it before they do the alignment. Is this true? or can i keep the tire and not have to shell out more money for a tire that is not even a year old. that being said, I am now doing more research and realizing that cupping is actually due to problems with the shocks. not alignment.

It's a 2009 toyota matrix xrs....

Camry :: 2005 - Tire Wear And Strong Bearing Noise

Have a 2005 Camry, had tire wear issues in front and strong bearing noise as well as cv issues. I've changed out the rotors, breaks, cvs' on both sides, had new bearings pressed, new struts and new tires, balance and alignment. All was well leaving the tire shop for about 10 miles. After that, the car began to pull to right and has a wobble at all speeds. Had car realigned again and balance checked, same result- alignment was out again. The one thing I haven't changed was the rack and pinion and the tie rods looked good. The rack and pinion passenger side boot is weeping and, this is the side the car keeps wanting to pull to.

Honda - Accord :: 2004 - Irregular Chomping Tire Wear

My 2004 Honda Accord Coupe has around 80,000 miles on it. Right now i am experiencing "chomping" or irregular wear on my tires. The inside quarter seems to be wearing at a significantly higher rate than the rest of the tire. However the outer edges have a very "wavy" wear to them as well. The right side of the car is much worse than the left side on both the front and rear tires. I do have direcitonal tires so i only rotate them front to back not side to side.

Research says that it is struts but when i asked my Honda technician he said to push down on the front and rear bumpers and if the car levels off within one and a half bounces it’s not the struts. I did that and it leveled off both on the front and rear. They don’t' appear to be leaking or have anything wrong with them.

So that left me thinking it was a balancing issue. I then went and got my tires balanced and the issue hasn't gone away.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Tire Wear - Bobbling / Shuddering Front End

I just bought a used 2007 Santa Fe Limited. It has 78,000 miles on it. I have gone bumper to bumper looking for problems and am pretty happy about the condition. HOWEVER, I have noticed a shuddering/bobbling, fairly faint, when going over slightly rough roads a low speeds. The tires are shot. But they are all exactly the same ... meaning the same wear more so on the outside. I believe they were rotated properly, but something is wearing the outside prematurely. Is the shuddering/bobbling the culprit? What is the most common issue for the Shuddering/bobbling at low speeds on slightly rough roads?

Next, I want a quiet ride. Handling is not a concern. Should I go with a slightly wider tire or slightly taller tire? Lastly, I need new mats. I want them to be the same as what came with the car. Do I have to go to the dealer or are there some vendors with better deals on factory mats.

Camry :: Chattering / Creaking / Clunking / Tire Wear And Vibration

I have a 2003 Toyota Camry XLE that has had the following issues.

1) When going over speed bumps you can hear a very loud creaking in the front and rear and occasionally a clunk in the rear.

2) When driving on rough or bumpy roads you can hear a metallic chattering coming from the driver's side.

3) There is a vibration in the car that I can't pinpoint but I was told the front rotors are slightly warped and that could be causing it, thoughts?

4) I put brand new tires on in January and it has less than 10,000 miles on them but they already look like they need to be replaced. They are Michelin Hydro-edge tires. I have had it balanced/rotated at 6,000 miles as well as an alignment. Nothing was said to me about any problems by the tire place when I had it done a few months back, which I find odd.

5) When turning into parking spots or turning at low-speed in general, especially when turning right, I sometimes hear the tires squealing.

I was going to go ahead and replace all 4 struts, strut mounts, strut boots, rear sway bars, all 4 rotors and brake pads. But I wanted to make sure that this would fix the problem.

Do I need to get the front Driver/Passenger CV Half Shaft Drive Axle assemblies? Are there any other parts that need to be replaced that could fix the issue? (Tie Rods? Ball Joints? etc?) Are there any other parts you'd recommend replacing while working on the car? I tried searching but could not find anything that specifically matched the problems.

Right Front Tire has excessive wear on Right INSIDE and car was pulling to the left. I rotated (or is it revolved?) my tires, and now the pulling has stopped......

OPINION: Bad tire that just wore poorly? Slight alignment issue that caused tire wear that then caused car pull? Wheel bearing issue causing tire wear? Or something else?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Uneven Tire Wear / Over Inflation

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT using the Futura GLS 225/70/R15 tires. The vehicle decal in the driver side door listed the recommended tire pressure to be 30 PSI. I have tried to maintain religiously along with proper balance and alignment. However, I've always had the experience of the tires wearing out more along the middle which seemed to indicate over inflation. The sections on either side of the center line seemed to wear out normally. For this reason I've had to turn in the tire prematurely as they become unsafe. These tires were made by Coopers Tire and distributed by Pep Boys. Have i been using poor quality tires all along? Do I need to lower my tire pressure below the 30 PSI recommended? If I do that wouldn't I be risking overheating and/or affecting my gas mileage?
