View 7 RepliesI have a lexus rx 330. Pump started making noise and low on fluid. We replaced all the belts and new pump. After installing new pump it was leaking from fill cup cap when driving also making a lot of noise on cold start. Mechanic said new pump was bad so we put in another one. Car ran fine as soon as we put it in and bleed good. Following morning again a lot of noise on cold start and noise goes away about 10 minutes but again small amount of fluid leaking from cap on fill cup. I replaced the rubber ring on cap to get a tight seal but again nothing.
View 6 RepliesI hit a curb while making too sharp of a right hand turn a week ago and now I notice some vibration in the steering wheel as I drive down the highway. The tire I hit was the rear passenger side. If I get wheel balancing done, do I need to just balance that tire or all of them?
View 3 Repliesi have a 2006 F250 XLT 5.4L 4x4 Crew Cab. after months of dealing with an ongoing power steering issue and replacing pumps left and right, i decided to replace the entire power steering system. Ordered Gearbox, Pump and Cooler from dealership. The install went fairly easy, and finished in 2 days.
The truck used to whine and grind as i would turn wheel any direction, driving or in park and the wheel used to pull , like jerk a bit when i would go like in a u-turn.
Not anymore, all those issues are gone. Steers straight , no whining , wheel doesn't pull anymore and all seems fine, EXCEPT when i take a turn , for example onto a driveway where its a bit of an incline. Then, i hear some grinding noise and a bit of vibration in my wheel. I think it comes from gearbox or pump.
Im scared not to drive it too much as all is new components and don't want to ruin all over again.
Truck seems to run ok, but when I push the brake pedal down a bit, a strange grinding/howling noise comes from the engine bay and same thing with the power steering. When I put the brake pedal down to the floor, it stops?
View 12 RepliesMy 04 GX has about 113k on it and the A/C clutch is shot, making a ton of grinding noise when its engaged (when the A/C is on).
Need to repair or replace there unit because of this? I see online the ability to buy just the clutch pack for the A/C compressor. However Lexus and other sites want to sell me the whole A/C compressor.
Question being, can I get away with buying the clutch pack and installing it onto my OEM a/c compressor? Or do I buy a new compressor?
I have a 2007 RX350 with about 243,000kms on it. I recently purchased this car and everything is great on it except one thing. As of late, I've begun to take notice that when I accelerate from a stand still (for example after stopping at a light/stop sign), a loud rattling/grinding starts and then as I pick up speed and change gears, it fades away. The sound is more rattling than grinding. As if there is a metal bowl with some smalls stones in it and someone is just shaking that. There is also another sub issue that I'm having. There seems to be a clicking noise every time I apply the brakes or even accelerate. The same clicking noise reoccurs every time I put the gear into drive from neutral. However, when I do that, there is only click as opposed to braking/accelerating, where there are many. I'm hoping this is all part of the same issue and not isolated issues.

Not there all the time..heard it last night while driving home....pulled over and waited for a while looked underneath could not see anything. Started off again heard it momentarily then it stopped....but I am thinking that this could be axle/wheel related/ball joint? No engine issue coming from the chassis underneath, possible bearing?
I have a 2003 Gx with 245K on it....but overall runs great!
GX 08 ABS making noise and comes and goes with steady interval during the drive. I did some searching and was not sure whether any other problems were related.
I think ever since we got new break pads installs it feels that ABS started to make noise with intervals non stop during the drive, I don't remember this ever being so obvious until the last couple of months.
The brakes feel fine, however when pressing break pedal when the noise comes up you can feel it in the brakes.
Okay so this is strange. There is a metal grinding/dragging noise coming from the rear passenger side of the car. I have a '05 GX470 with air suspension. On the first look I don't appear to be dragging anything and everything looks good with the brakes. I also noticed the noise persists after stopping sometimes but when I shift to neutral it disappears. So here is my list of suspects:
- Eroded muffler (there was an exhaust leak)
- Air suspension because I don't know anything about it
- Differentials
- Transmission
Anything else I missed?
New to my 2008 GX470. 100k miles. Love it so far. However I think I am hearing a intermittent rumbling as I drive down the road. It is like the rumble from a radio base sound. It could be normal road noise but I bet it is not.
I have replaced the left front axle (grease boot broken), replaced the rotors and pads, replaced all differential and transfer case fluids (not transmission yet) and inspected all the suspension parts.
Ok here goes. I recently replaced the front wheel hub and upper and lower ball joints on the the driver side of my 2004 f250 CC SB 6.0 fx4. Now when I put into 4 wheel drive I get a grinding noise that sounds like a worn out break pad from that side only. It didn't do it before and it only happens in 4x4. I have replaced the wheel hubs before and it was fine. Also The needle bearing race on the axle is good.
View 2 RepliesI replaced the front hubs and bearings on my brothers 2002 Camry today. He drove less than a block and developed awful grinding noise and it won't move in reverse or drive. It rolls when I put it in park. I had to pull it back into my shop. Is it possible the inner CV came loose and i didn't realize it? It all seemed to go back together fine. The new CV axle nuts were quite tight and slow to put on with my impact gun.
What else could possible go kaput when I re & re hub/bearings? And what a long ugly job to replace those bearings. Don't even think about doing this without a good hydraulic press. Up to the point of getting knuckle off, it was easy job.
My buddy's 94 Grand Cherokee with 5.1 L has developed a loud grinding noise. I thought it sounded like a wheel bearing but the shop said, "front differential, transfer case, and possibly drive shaft."
Does it sound feasible to remove the drive shafts to and from the transfer case, to see if the noise disappears (indicating transfer case and/or shafts)?
If it is the front differential, how big of a job is it to change the whole unit out? Could it be a bearing in the differential; inner axle bearing, or carrier bearing or something?
It is a work vehicle, and he doesn't want to sink big repair into it.
2004 Santa Fe, after starting car the brakes make a grinding noise, the nthe ABS, ESC and 4 wheel drive light come on. After the initial grinding the noise stops and the brakes work fine. Just the lights stay on.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 F350 with a7.3 power stroke, 6 speed manual with manual t case and hubs. I have a bad grinding noise when in 2 wheel drive. Similar sound as if you are trying to shift t case into 4 wheel drive too slowly. The grinding is constant in 2 wheel drive, but if I shift it into 4 wheel drive, the noise completely goes away. I have been driving around in 4 wheel drive (T case only, manual hubs not locked) for the past 2 days. If I shift back into 2 wheel drive, a constant terrible grinding noise returns. What could be wrong, and why it goes away in 4 wheel drive?????
View 3 Replies2001 F250 7.3L 280k miles. Truck is new to me in the last 6 weeks. Was driving out to Glenwood Springs last night and I got a weird rear end vibration between 79 and 81 mph - couldn't say if it's a new vibration as haven't had the truck long enough. It's sort of still there over 81 but less obvious than bang on 80. Whilst the vibration was there I caught a slight dip in the road that caused a grinding noise to accompany the vibration - I'm guessing because something's was getting extra loading on the upside of the dip.
I'm away from home until Monday so my options are a bit limited, however while crawling around in the dark last night pushing and shoving stuff to see if anything was loose I noticed a couple of things:
Minor leak from pinion seal - but it has flung some spots of oil. Drive shaft 'center bearing'(? U shaped attachment on drive shaft to chassis with rubber bearing?) has play I can push the drive shaft at least a 1/4" with my hand and it seems a little sloppy but I'm no mechanic.
I'm going to check transmission fluid level today and top up if required and check the magnets, such that I can limp home as necessary avoiding 80 and get the diff checked and pinion seal replaced. Does the drive shaft bearing need changing or should it have that much play? I'm assuming it's LSD on the rear?
When move steering wheel left to right just a tiny bit back and forth while the car is shut off or on, does it make any sort of noise in the column?
