I've got some light smoke coming off my engine block, it smells slightly sweet. The smoke is not noticible unless you open the hood, and it is coming from the driver side of the engine. There are always small drops of coolant on the block. The hose is brand new, what else could be causing this?

Today my wife was driving it and out of no where the car would not pick up speed like normal. we cam shift all the gears normal and the rpms go up but the speed takes time to get up there. When we parked the car i opened the hood and notice a smell and some smoke coming from under the engine block going to see a mechanic his week but what it could be.

My husband says that it is caused by oil dripping on the engine block, that this happens to all Honda Accords, and that it is safe. Is it safe? Smoke coming from the hood seems scary. Engine oil is highly flammable, no?

Brought car into the dealership to repair my rear main for a second time. Looks like every 5,000 miles the leak shows up.
The dealership has repaired the rear main seal a second time, and guess what?
Two days later at the dealership the car started leaking oil again.
So now it's been identified that the entire short block needs to be replaced. Should take another week to repair.
This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a new car. Now I have a relatively new car (10,300 miles) that has had 2 rear main seals repaired, a short block replaced, replaced front parking sensors, and a radio that displays the wrong time when first starting the car.
I have a 2010 rx350 and had a big oil leak recently because the car shop didn't install correctly the oil filter seals. It didn't leak right away and my wife drove till the check engine light came on, but it was late... no oil in the dipstick... I think no oil at all but the car didn't display low oil level warning. only a beep when i turned the steering wheel.
I had it towed and luckily my wife stopped the car when the light came on, no harm done the mechanic said. But I think it has less power and the engine noise is a little louder than before..., so maybe the engine has a Little wear. but there is no smoke. Should I continue to use the same thin oil.. 0w20. or use a thick like 5w30??
Want to do WALD rear body kit follow with the quad outlet. Just wondering "Will the engine light pop up if change exhaust"?
2010 rx350
I have 900 miles on my new 2014 GX460 (bought in Sept) and engine light popped on. Told by Lexus that EGR valve needed to be replaced. It was defective. They said that they heard a whole lot was shipped bad and put on trucks. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Should I be concerned about the longevity of my new truck now? Easy replacement? Could there be other issues? Has there really ever been a Lexus Lemon? I had a 2007 GX470 that hummed along wonderfully for years, so now worried.
Second question - at what RPM does your GX460 idle at while in gear? After getting it back, it seems to be idling low, but Lexus tells me it is computer configured and even if they wanted to tweak it they couldn't.
I was driving on the freeway and the trac and engine lights came on.. Noticed that I am no longer getting the Eco light when coasting. Ran the codes and it's P0157 and C1201. I have recently changed tires, not sure what other reason can cause the lights.
View 14 RepliesFilled up my 2012 Lexus Rx450h in NJ. They don't have self-service there, so I don't blame myself, but gas cap not tightened. Check Engine light is on, I tightened gas cap, light still on. Is there just a fuse I can pull to reset the warning light? There seem to be a few fuses labeled ECU. Exactly which one should I pull ? If I don't, how soon before it will it reset on its own?
View 6 RepliesI bought a certified used 2014 GX460 with 16K. I now have 20k. Last week while on vacation, 450 miles away from home, while on a stop light the engine just stopped. I re cranked pulled into Drive and it stopped again. I wanted a couple of mins and it re started. I pulled to a safe area and called my service adviser. He said to keep driving it. Probably just a fluke.
It drove good for the next 45 mins. Later same day we took off again in it. It stopped on me 6 more times. Some were while I was travelling at 60 mph. It just stopped. Had to pull to the side of the road before I lost all steering ability. Kind of scary when a 18 wheeler is on your bumper.
I had it towed to the dealership. They kept if for 5 days. They said they replaced some gaskets around the exhaust valves??? Not areal good explanation.
I drove it 1 1/2 days (45 miles) and it started doing this again. It is at the deal ship now.
My wife's 2010 RX350 with 75K miles on it , the check Engine Light came up with code P0303 (cylinder misfire). Since the warranty is out already so I went to my mechanic and had the spark plugs and the back ignition coils replaced. After a week, the light came back on. So I went to the dealership and they said the engine needs to be taken apart because of low compression and valves could have carbon build up already.
View 11 RepliesI got in my car this morning to drop my sister off to school and when I put the RX in reverse nothing happened for a second or two and then all of a sudden it jerked back. I continued to reverse off the driveway thinking what the heck just happened. When I put the car in drive the reverse camera stayed on as I drove off.
When I noticed this, I pulled over to the side and put the RX back in park and turned it off. I then turned it back on and the area on the dash that shows what gear your in, never turned on. My sister was getting late so I dropped her off and came home.
I turned the car off and waited 30 seconds before turning it back on. This time the reverse camera didn't engage in reverse and the small screen that displays what gear your in, displayed no image. Then a few seconds after that, the check engine light came on and so did the symbol of a car and squiggly lines under it. My RX350 is a 2010, and has just under 85k.
Started up our 2010 RX 350 and there was loud knocking. This smoothed out after several seconds. I stopped engine and started it again. This time the knocking was less severe, but now the Check Engine light is on. Engine seems to be running a little rough as well. I have a feeling I have a bad plug or wire maybe.
View 2 RepliesI have noticed 3 times so far blue smoke coming out the tailpipe upon start up. I have not been able to reproduce the issue on demand but I have seen it myself 3 times and it concerns me a bit. It's a 2012 with 36k on it. I changed the oil at 1k, 5k, 10k, 20k & 30k. Last oil change was done by the dealer but every oil change was done with Lexus Filter and synthetic oil. I have not noticed a loss of oil by the dipstick either. I noticed the poof of smoke last week when I was outside at the carwash and one of the employees moved it. I also noticed it when I used remote start the other 2 times. It's not enough that I would be able to see it from inside the truck. I also have black carbon / soot build up in the bottom of my tailpipe but I think that's with all vehicles. I know if I bring it to Lexus they will say "Unable to duplicate issue" and send me on my way.

View 1 RepliesOur 12 elantra with 26,500 miles went up in a big cloud of smoke on monday. Driving along about 45 miles an hour and lost power and huge cloud of smoke. Engine still running but any attempt to accelerate and it falls on it's face. Smoke out the taipipe all the time. After about 12 dealer excuses they say it needs a new short block. The wife drives it all the time so it doesn't get babied and it doesn't get the snot run out of it either.
View 76 RepliesMy RX350 has less than 18K miles and it has signs of bad valve seals. If I start the vehicle after it sits for a while, a large puff of blue smoke emits from the tail pipe. My 02 Dodge with 188K miles doesn't even do this.

After starting the car and let it warm up for a bit I notice a decent amount of white smoke from my exhaust which at first I thought was due to the rainy weather (abt 28celcius in Thailand) but it doesn't feel normal. Shortly after I see it coming from the engine so I opened the hood to check. I also went for a short ride around the village and the white smoke still continues from both engine and exhaust...
Its on the right side in between the engine and the battery...
There is also something like a little boil from that joint...
Our 2012 elantra gls with 112k miles on it decided to freak out yesterday.
Car wont turn over at all. there is also a clicking sound coming from the interior fuse block. I popped the hood and smelled sulfur. I put the volt meter to the battery and it shows 12.8 ish. I checked all the fuses and didn't find any blown. I also pulled the starter relay and tested it and it checked out.
Trying to turn the car over some times the dash light will flicker and the wipers will turn on by themselves. I also had a clicking sound coming from the fuse block under the hood. Interior lights come on but are dim and the parking light flicker a bit and fade. I downloaded the manual but am not sure what to look for at this point.
Should the engine block of an 2005 Acura RL crack if the car's maintenance has been regular and complete according to all dealer specified recommendations? Cooling system never stopped working either. What else could cause the engine block to crack?
