Started up our 2010 RX 350 and there was loud knocking. This smoothed out after several seconds. I stopped engine and started it again. This time the knocking was less severe, but now the Check Engine light is on. Engine seems to be running a little rough as well. I have a feeling I have a bad plug or wire maybe.
View 2 RepliesSo my 2012 plugin was parked for about 3 days, and when I turned it on, heard loud knocking and the check engine light came and stayed on.
When switching the car on or off, I'll hear two taps/ticks that were not there before. Loud knocking is not there now.
What can the issue be? It was very cold and snowing.
I bought a used 2010 GMC Terrain with 28,000 miles on it in April of 2013. Two weeks after I purchased the car I heard a knocking sound and the check engine light came on. Took it to Dealer and they said the car is low on oil. They put in oil. Two weeks later check engine light comes back on. They put it through a test for oil consumption and that they said the car is using an excessive amount of oil. So they had to change out all of the pistons. One month later the check engine light comes back on.
Dealer calls GM and they say to reset computer....... three weeks later check engine light comes back on....... GM now says to dealer it needs a new engine computer. Not an hour after I pick the car up from it lastest stay at the dealer the light comes back on. GM doesn't know what it is. The mechanic at the dealer is awesome he did some research and thinks the problem is the gas. I now need to put in 90 or above so the engine won't knock. Not happy right now I didn't think that I would have to put in a high octane gas when I bought the car. Terrain owners do you have to put in a high octane gas?
I have a 2006 lexus gs300 rwd and my check engine light came on the code P0021 and the check VSC light is on as well and a knocking noise i checked my engine level and seems to be fine but thats just because im always adding oil since its burning a quart every 500 miles which is a lot so whats going on here? Also my idle seems to drop when at a light any one know about recalls on these cars?
View 4 RepliesI have a '99 durango with ~45000 miles. Recently it has been breaking down on me. I feel it lose power until it dies all together. After about 20 minutes it will start again. This has happened 5 times. When it happened today, I was going about 30 mph, when I felt it lose power. The speedometer went to '0" - the 'check engine light came on', the 'fuel pump' light came on (like it does when you run out of gas), then I had this odd message on the odometer that said "NO BUS".
This time I had it towed w/o trying to crank it with the hopes they can get a code. I told them about the "no bus" message but they did not seem to know anything about it. I have found this mentioned on a few bulletins boards but not with much info.
I own a stock 2008 Prius.
My car didn't move for 1-2 months so I needed a boost this morning. I noticed there's the check engine light on and a red triangle.
Also, the car won't go on electric mode.
I have a 2002 Prius that needs work. The red triangle, PS, and check engine light are all on. It has these codes:
P3100 - 175 (HV ECU internal error. Motor Inverter Current Sensor Malfunction)
p3125 - 287 (Motor Inverter Finv. Inverter Internal Short)
c1259 (HV System Regenerative Malfunction)
I suspect the inverter or even worse the MG2 has burnt windings.
BTW the "infamous" inverter pump seems to be working. I can hear it and see the fluid in the reservoir move.
I suspect it is more a symptom than a problem and will disappear when the real problem is fixed.
I was just driving and the engine check light appeared. The screen says Emission workshop. its a 2001 B5 passat V6 Manual. I used a code reader and it read P1120 and P0154. Are these codes serious? Can I still drive around? What should I do?
View 4 RepliesThe "check engine soon" light appeared yesterday on this nice running 1997 van with 167K. An auto parts store code check indicated a problem with the oxygen sensor. Is this something I can replace myself--a lightweight shade tree mechanic? I never seem to have any luck asking questions on the Mopar website.
View 10 RepliesI just bought a 2006 prius. It had 2 bad cells in the battery pack. I replaced the cells and all seems to be well, they all read the same voltage and the car appears to be driving, charging, working.
I still have the red exclamation mark and check engine light. The only code I get says to replace hybrid battery pack.
There are no other specific codes or issues and it runs perfect. Basically I guess what I am asking is how to clear the light or figure out why the light is still on!
My car has 63 000 km and engine is making loud knocking noise all the time. Dealer took a quick look and he asked head office. Now he wants to run some tests to see which valve is bad. He's hesitating between repairing or replacing the engine. I'm really disappointed of Hyundai quality. I really hope that I get new engine instead of poor repair job.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2010 rx350 and had a big oil leak recently because the car shop didn't install correctly the oil filter seals. It didn't leak right away and my wife drove till the check engine light came on, but it was late... no oil in the dipstick... I think no oil at all but the car didn't display low oil level warning. only a beep when i turned the steering wheel.
I had it towed and luckily my wife stopped the car when the light came on, no harm done the mechanic said. But I think it has less power and the engine noise is a little louder than before..., so maybe the engine has a Little wear. but there is no smoke. Should I continue to use the same thin oil.. 0w20. or use a thick like 5w30??
Filled up my 2012 Lexus Rx450h in NJ. They don't have self-service there, so I don't blame myself, but gas cap not tightened. Check Engine light is on, I tightened gas cap, light still on. Is there just a fuse I can pull to reset the warning light? There seem to be a few fuses labeled ECU. Exactly which one should I pull ? If I don't, how soon before it will it reset on its own?
View 6 RepliesMy wife's 2010 RX350 with 75K miles on it , the check Engine Light came up with code P0303 (cylinder misfire). Since the warranty is out already so I went to my mechanic and had the spark plugs and the back ignition coils replaced. After a week, the light came back on. So I went to the dealership and they said the engine needs to be taken apart because of low compression and valves could have carbon build up already.
View 11 RepliesI got in my car this morning to drop my sister off to school and when I put the RX in reverse nothing happened for a second or two and then all of a sudden it jerked back. I continued to reverse off the driveway thinking what the heck just happened. When I put the car in drive the reverse camera stayed on as I drove off.
When I noticed this, I pulled over to the side and put the RX back in park and turned it off. I then turned it back on and the area on the dash that shows what gear your in, never turned on. My sister was getting late so I dropped her off and came home.
I turned the car off and waited 30 seconds before turning it back on. This time the reverse camera didn't engage in reverse and the small screen that displays what gear your in, displayed no image. Then a few seconds after that, the check engine light came on and so did the symbol of a car and squiggly lines under it. My RX350 is a 2010, and has just under 85k.
I just made my first payment last friday and today my check engine light is illuminated. I did have one of those awful cold, knocking starts the other day!

Toyota's Emergency Response Guide says this error is triggering by the ground fault monitor that is connected to the 12v aux battery.
HV battery pack ( HV battery fuse, two 12v relay)
HV battery inverter/converter
My 2010 Toyota Prius III has 37400 miles and I've had it since 2010 April.
My ScangaugeII didn't find any OBD2 diagnostic codes
Went to start the car up this morning - foot on brake and pressed the Power button. The car went through its checks but when it finished the 'Welcome to Prius' graphic it did a continuous beeep and displayed 'Check Hybrid System' and didn't start.
I turned it off and tried again and on the third or fourth attempt the car eventually fired up, the error message was gone and there were no warning lights on the dash. The car did smell like it was running rich though.
I turned it off and called the dealers. They said if no warning lights are now on it should be ok to drive the 6 miles to see them and they'll check it on their computer. As I drove to see them the car was running OK but the fuel economy was shocking. I was getting about 40 mpg UK (30 US mpg) as a trip average.
I was driving home and all of a sudden my rpms are at 3.5 4k rpm wont shift to next gear. I put in in tiptronic mode and shift it to 8 it works fine. Then about 10 minutes later check vsc shows on dash traction control light is on check engine light is on and the light next to the check engine i think it is the abs light. I havent pulled the code yet.
