Loud engine grinding noise accelerating from stop when you first start the car? It is right after cold start, lasts 10-15 seconds until I get to 30-40mph. Engine sounds normal otherwise.
2008 LS600hl with 28K miles
I just had new pads(ceramics, not sure of the brand) all around and new front rotors installed from a local shop that I trust. When braking while cold, there is a grinding sound and feel, I took the car back to the shop, they've acknowledged the issue, double checked their work, and are willing to replace the pads if it continues, which it has. Is there a break in period for ceramics, should I specify a different type of pad.

When I went to go, I pushed the gas, and my car revved up, moved forward, then all of a sudden it made a loud grinding noise (Like I was dragging metal sheets), and the gas stopped responding (but the engine was still running). The car still turns on, but whenever the gas is pushed, it doesn't go and makes that awful noise. What could be wrong?
View 2 RepliesWhat is this metal on metal noise...you hear it the best around the 7-12 second mark...it is especially loud on cold start in the morning when you put the car in "drive" but don't move the car forward. It also is prevalent on hot days when you park the car outside and just start the car. The sound gets louder when you turn on the a/c during the hot day.

I have a 2008 LS460. I have a clicking noise coming from the brake pedal area. It happens in the morning when the brakes are cold. I had the same problem when the car was new, and Lexus put in a new actuator. It was ok for about 6 months, and started clicking again. Maybe 3 or 4 soft clicks when I push lightly on the brake pedal. Every time I take it in to Lexus, they say it has the new actuator, and the noise is so soft that they act like they can't hear it. The car is so quiet otherwise, that to me the clicking is very annoying. I have called Lexus corporate, to no avail. Sounds to me that they have a problem they don't want to admit.
View 9 RepliesDriving in snow, braking in this car routinely handles poorly and brakes make a loud grinding sound. It sounds like the front brakes. I just had a brake job from a trusted dealer. I read the thread here on the Honda Accord that reported the same sort of brake problem. The issue is the brakes, NOT tires as that thread suggests. Braking strength is greatly impaired under these conditions. I am very apprehensive about driving in snow, and ready to trade in what is otherwise a fine car.
View 7 RepliesI recently hit 180,000 km on my mileage and all of the sudden theres increased ticking engine noise and vibration. Sounds like a diesel engine. No check engine lights, gas mileage is the same, acceleration is the same and as far as I can tell after checking oil its within normal range for now.
I'm worried its either the VVTi Rubber hose exploded or its the VVTI Camshaft / piston slap issue. My dilemna is I'm 3 hours drive away from a Lexus dealer but there is a Toyota Dealer 10 min away. Should I bring it in to verify theres no oil leak at Toyota and then take it back to a Lexus mechanic to see if it is Camshaft gear ?
I have a 2008 Sante Fe with 165K mileage. At times, not regular, when restarting the car we hear a grinding noise. Immediately we turn the car off and re start, noise goes away. Could this be the starter going bad? Dealership wants 400 to fix.

One issue I'm having is during a cold start, the engine makes a very loud noise that doesn't resemble a higher rpm that usually comes with a warm up stage. It sounds like something is grinding, followed by a vacuum/sucking noise. It lasts about 20sec and then idles normally. It only happens during cold start.

So I have a 2004 F-150 that just passed 80,000 miles and a month ago it started making a very loud noise on startup, but only cold startup, meaning if I haven't used the truck in about three hours. I have a loud tapping noise in my 07 5.4 triton. when its really cold on the first start up I cant here the noise but when it gets warm its tap tap tap again.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe and there is a loud grinding sound when the car is in park and neutral. This noise doesn't happen all the time but i would say 50% of the time. When there is the noise it does go away when i put the car into drive or reverse.

View 2 RepliesThis started yesterday. A Loud grinding type noise from the top of the engine. As soon as I touch the throttle the noise goes away. I checked the pulleys and TC and everything checks out. Sounds like it's coming from the HPOP gear area like a gear train noise. Maybe the additional oil pressure has something to do with the HPOP inside getting quiet.
View 7 RepliesI start noticing a weird noise upon cold start up. It sounds like something is grinding. First goes starter sound and then engine noise together with this grinding noise. Grinding noise goes away within sec. or so. It is not really loud, but it definitely not engine or starter sound.
It happens only on cold starts when engine is completely cold. If I start engine, let it run for few minutes, shut it down and restart again, it starts without grinding noise. Don't remember if car was doing it from beginning, never turned car while I was outside. Few weeks ago when temperature dropped below freezing point, I turned ignition through passenger door to warm up the engine.
After that I begun listening every start up. Every start up same noise. Every morning and every time after work I hear this noise. No noise if car been driven recently or engine is still warm.

I have a 2007 ES350 with 85k miles. I've noticed that whenever the AC is turned on, there is an audible grinding/groaning type noise coming from the engine bay. If I turn the AC off, the noise immediately stops and returns as soon as I turn it back on.
I've also noticed that the noise only occurs when the car is in drive or reverse. If I switch to park or neutral, the noise immediately stops.
I had the serpentine belt as well as two idler pulleys replaced in hopes of solving the problem but the noise is still present. Any other troubleshooting I can perform to narrow down the problem?
When I start my vehicle, it makes a grinding noise, sounds like it's coming from the front of the vehicle, when I put into gear it stops. It started gradual and is getting worse. It's a 6 cylinder automatic, with 108 k miles.
View 3 RepliesI am having several issues. I got the lexus dealership to service my transmission recently. I got it back with a weird smell. It smells like body odor. I had to reach out to hendrick corporate for them to address the problem without charging me. Turns out it was the fluid they used. I could smell the smell from inside if i wasn't recirculating the air. They changed the fluid again and it still smells. Is my transmission doing this because it is too hot?
This smell was never an issue until after the first transmission service. And now I'm hearing a metal grinding sound in 2nd gear past 4600 rpm. It still shifts smooth but 2nd gear might be slipping. Something just doesn't seem right. o yea they gave me my car back with my brakes sticking after stopping in traffic. I took it back and was told my brake pads in the rear lost 2mm in less than 650 miles.
By the way this sound can be heard in 1st but is more prevalent in 2nd. It is not heard in any other gears. And when in sport mode the sound instantly stops when i shift up into 3rd.
Last week while my wife was pulling out the cart . I heard a grinding noise coming from the back wheels. i figured it was time for new brakes, I changed the front last year so rears were pending.
I changed rotors and pads, they were like 20 per left. also looked like the e brake was touching the rotors. I adjusted that a little.
So the noise is still there and its worse. I have no clue what could be making the noise. brake dust shield maybe.. shocks .. Its worse when i turn right...

I notice a problem with my ES350 2008 today and would like to have your inputs before sending to the garage.
When the climate control is ON, the passenger vent and the central right side vent is blowing hot air, but the left side of the central dash vent and vent on the driver side is blowing cold air.
I increase the temperature on the driver side to the max and then and only then hot air is coming out, very weak. On the passenger side, the temperature is very precise, no sign of weakness.
The car has 150k miles.
I have a 2007 RX350 with about 243,000kms on it. I recently purchased this car and everything is great on it except one thing. As of late, I've begun to take notice that when I accelerate from a stand still (for example after stopping at a light/stop sign), a loud rattling/grinding starts and then as I pick up speed and change gears, it fades away. The sound is more rattling than grinding. As if there is a metal bowl with some smalls stones in it and someone is just shaking that. There is also another sub issue that I'm having. There seems to be a clicking noise every time I apply the brakes or even accelerate. The same clicking noise reoccurs every time I put the gear into drive from neutral. However, when I do that, there is only click as opposed to braking/accelerating, where there are many. I'm hoping this is all part of the same issue and not isolated issues.
