I have a 2008 Sante Fe with 165K mileage. At times, not regular, when restarting the car we hear a grinding noise. Immediately we turn the car off and re start, noise goes away. Could this be the starter going bad? Dealership wants 400 to fix.
View 27 RepliesI have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe and there is a loud grinding sound when the car is in park and neutral. This noise doesn't happen all the time but i would say 50% of the time. When there is the noise it does go away when i put the car into drive or reverse.
View 16 RepliesWhen I start my vehicle, it makes a grinding noise, sounds like it's coming from the front of the vehicle, when I put into gear it stops. It started gradual and is getting worse. It's a 6 cylinder automatic, with 108 k miles.
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2008 Santa Fe last September, since around 2 weeks after I bought it the engine management light has been coming on intermittently. First it then after a few starts it goes off, only to come on again a few days later. Basically dealership hasn't got a clue what's causing it and thus far they've:
Replaced the DPF
Replaced the temp sensors
Replaced injector sleeves
Cleaned the EGR
DPF was changed after they couldn't force regen.
Now, it mainly comes on when I've got cruise control on, although the way I turn it on is bizarre, I have to hold down the on/off and cancel buttons for 10 seconds before it turns on.
Basically I am now running out of solutions as are the dealers, they can't replicate the problem ( although they haven't tried with the cruise)...
I have a 2010 Santa fe ( since new) 28k miles - I'm getting a grinding noise that seems to come from the front right wheel - noticeable only when doing a right hand turn or going around a roundabout.
So, Is this likely (from my terrible description) to be a wheel bearing problem....

Heard a grinding noise coming from the back of the truck today. First thing I thought to look at was the rotors. They looked warped/wavy and were really hot. I'm worried that the pads are used up and its metal on metal, really looks like rotor damage. I'm confused by this...
1) I get a safety inspection done every time i'm in for service (6km), no service rep has ever warned me about my pads.
2) Aren't squealers supposed to warn the driver of low pads?
3) Pads wear out faster in the front than they do in the back. How could the back pads be used up already? The front looks fine.
So if my back calipers are seized, or the e-brake line froze, then i'm driving with the back brakes engaged full time. This should not have happened to a truck so young. Do I have a warranty case here?
I have a 2007 SF Ltd. About 6 months ago I noticed a tiny grinding noise coming from the front end. I took it to the place that installed the brakes and rotors and had them look at it. The said that they didn't see anything but the cleaned up the rotors and oiled the slide pins. That didn't seem to sold the problem, so I took it to the shop that does all my inspections and such. They mentioned that they didn't see anything and that if if was only first thing in the morning, it might be some very minor rust that is building and being worn off. Lately, the grinding noise has gotten much more consistent and loud. Both places said the pads looked almost new and other than the turning of the rotors, they looked fine. If it isn't the pads or the rotors, what could be causing the grinding noise? A friend of mine had the same issue but his dealer told him that his vehicle "just had noisy brakes". That doesn't see to be an acceptable answer.
View 3 RepliesMy 2007 Santa Fe Limited 3.3L with 102,000 miles started making a grinding/ticking noise yesterday. It's hard to tell but it sounds like its coming from directly under the center console. The noise is directly proportional to the speed and if I put my hand on the shift selector, I can feel the tick vibrations. It drives and shifts fine. What it could be? I'm hoping it's not a transmission issue. I'm thinking something with the AWD connection to the rear wheels.

2008 LS600hl with 28K miles
Have 2008 Santa fe with a driveline hum noise. Originally thought is was a wheel bearing so I replaced what I thought was the suspect ones (1 in front and 1 in the back). Noise still there! Carrier bearing on the drive shaft? Front axle shaft? I'm at a lose.
View 7 RepliesEverything about my '08 2.7l Santa Fe seems/drives fine, but it always has a light clicking noise when idling and maybe even at higher revs. Is a little bit of this clicking normal or does the valve clearance need to be inspected and/or adjusted?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 Santa Fe LTD, and just recently started experiencing a strange noise when I am accelerating, and I cannot pinpoint it. Here is some info on the noise.
-2008 Santa Fe LTD AWD, about 25,000 miles
-Sounds like a little higher pitched hum, not very loud
-Seems to be coming from somewhere near the passenger side backseat area (first found out about it when someone was sitting there and asked what the noise was)
-Cannot tell whether it is coming from the interior or exterior of the car, but I think exterior, but it is definitely somewhere along the passenger side, from the back half of the car.
-Noise occurs when accelerating from a stopped position, only when accelerating, never when braking or idle.
-Noise occurs only when car is in gear (hitting the gas pedal in park does not cause the noise to happen)
-Noise doesn't occur at high speeds or when accelerating at high speeds
-Noise only really occurs for a 2-3 seconds while accelerating, then seems to go away as I continue to drive.
-Noise doesn't seem to always happen, but very frequently.
I've got a 2008 santa fe limited 3.3 awd with about 170000 km on it. Lately when I brake I've been hearing a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the driver side front wheel area.
Had it in to my mechanic who checked the brakes and said that pads/calipers/rotors were all fine. They replaced the passenger side front bearing on the lower control arm a few weeks ago and said there is no play or noise coming from any other suspension components.
Where to look next? My mechanic isn't sure what it is so I was going to take it to the dealer and see if they can fix it. Also had new tires installed about a month ago
I put the trans in gear it won't move and has a grinding sound and rolls unless I use the emergency brake. I bought this used from a friend at 80k miles, now it has 130k miles and has been factory serviced regularly.
View 1 RepliesI was driving out of a parking lot and as I accelerated onto the main road my vehicle stopped. I heard a grinding sound and could not go forward or reverse. While the car is in drive, park or reverse my car will roll any which way. It pushed it across the street. I tried to locate my tranny dipstick via visual inspection and manual. I could not find it. Could the stick have never been put back at some point in service and caused this issue. That seems unlikely but the thought occurred. Could it be the velocity joint? Whatever it is it certainly sounds like a transmission issue.
View 1 RepliesWhat could it be? Replace front brakes. Then they said it was front axels, replaced them. Making same noise... grinding and feels like you are hitting brakes when you are not. Sounds like metal on metal. What else can it be? 01 sante fe 180,000 miles v6 awd. It was doing it in reverse but after all of this now just in drive at slow speeds.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2.7 L v6 Santa Fe, 2004 with almost 50k miles on it.
When I accelerate and hit approximately 1.9k RPM I can hear a light grinding noise underneath the car. This happens both in 2nd and 3rd gear. So as it's accelerating up I can hear it, and when the car shifts up and the RPMs drop it will make the noise again as it passes through the same RPM range.
The noise is always there at 1.9k to approx 2.1k RPMs.
Also of note is that the sound is either gone or significantly reduced after driving around for a while. I don't notice it after freeway driving, for example.
Codes currently on ecm: P0134, P2125, P1174, P0735 My 2003 Santa Fe 2wd 3.5l with 160,000 miles was driving fine, then all the sudden whenever I reach about 3500 rpms there's a grinding noise that sounds like its coming from near or in the automatic transmission. As for the codes: P0134- I just replaced the o2 sensor with an oem part from autozone, so not sure why that's popping up. The connections look fine. P2125 and P1174- I'm trying to figure out whether the accelerator position sensor or throttle position sensor needs to be replaced. I have a multimeter but don't know if that will be able to tell me which one is out. The P0735 gear 5 incorrect ratio and grinding noise at 3500 rpms is what I am mostly worried about though. Could a transmission flush work with that?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe v6. I've had problems with the air conditioning in that it blows hot. Paid around 900 bucks to have a new compressor installed because the mechanic said that would fix it but it didn't. That was about 8 months ago. Still blowing strong but no cold air. About two weeks ago I took the car to a different mechanic who told me it needs a new compressor which would be 900 bucks. I declined that but had the guy do a little work on the breaks. He put new rotors and pads on the front brakes two weeks ago. Now within the past couple days when I start the car up it makes an extremely loud nasty grinding type of sound for a couple seconds then stops. Oil is fine and new. It happened this morning long enough for me to look under the hood and see the fans looked like they were fine, and the loud grinding noise seems to be coming from behind the glove box. It hasn't broke down on me yet, it's just really obnoxious and embarrassing with all the noise every morning.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 Santa Fe 2.7L engine. Right now it seems to be making a funny grinding noise in the passenger side. It's driving and shifting fine. Wheels seem to be ok. Once it cooled down the noise seemed to go away.
