Well, started to get belt squeak during cold starts. The idler pulley was changed many miles ago for same issue, but it seems to be starting up again. There are NO tutorials for serpentine belt replacement on this gen of RX.

Dealership told me why during the cold mornings after I start the car up, it is creaking and squeaking........
They told me it needs to be replaced?......
The serpentine belt starting squeaking on cold and damp mornings about 18 months ago at about 60K. I replaced it with a Dayco belt, and the noise went away for about 6 months. When the weather turned cold last winter, the noise came back. So I changed the tensioner with both idler pulleys right about when the weather warmed up, and it was fine all summer. Now that it has gotten cold again, the squeak is back yet again and as before it goes away when the car warms up. I know it is the serpentine belt because when I spray it with water the noise immediately stops. I checked all the pulleys with the belt off and when I spin them I hear no noise. Is there something else it could be?
View 1 RepliesSo my mk6 developed what initially sounded initially like a bad serpentine belt tensioner. Only under anything more than load, and sounded like a bird chattering under the hood. Got outside today, fired car up, watched tensioner and it sat there steady as a rail. The noise is coming from the opposite side of the engine. Not really mechanical/metallic at all and tracks under load with the RPMs. Why i initially thought what i did. Not I'm sort of baffled.
View 3 RepliesMy serp belt squeaks due to contamination due to timing cover leak. I removed belt and cleaned it with mild degreaser solution and it was quiet for 1 day. If I had 100% water in cooling system, would any more leakage cause a belt squeak? I am putting off fixing timing cover gasket since it is a 5hr job. Coolant is @ 90% water concentration now.

Been trying to isolate my noisy serpentine belt. Had the belt off and spun everything, only thing I found that made any noise was the alternator. It had a nice churp like a bearing was on its way out in it. So I replaced that figuring my squeak was going to go away. No such luck. Listening to it again while it was idling, I crawled underneath. Almost seems like the churping noise is coming from the Crank Pulley. Is there a bearing on this pulley that goes bad?
View 13 RepliesI have a concern with my serpentine belt chirping when it's wet or cold. I have tried soap, and other attempts to quiet it down. Belt tension is good, new water pump and fan. Otherwise no other issues so far.

I also had a 94 camry which had a alternator connected to a belt. and if i wanted to tighten up that belt i would just loosen the alternator and pull it. Is there a way to tighten up serpentine belt in my 05 corolla in the same way?.

View 2 RepliesI have a '06 sonata 3.3 v6. Let me first describe what was happening to the car before the noise started. When I first started the car and put the ac, the first time turning the steering wheel in either direction the steering wheel would tighten up and the battery indicator light would come on and the fasten seatbelt light would flash even though I had the belt fastened. It would only happen the first time I would make a turn and after that I could turn with no problem. So in recap, it would only happen on the first turn and only when the ac was on. Now when I start the car up there is a noise coming form the pulley/belt area. I wouldn't classify it as a squeaking noise more like a grinding. I've looked at the belt and it seems to be fine. After I start to drive the car the noise goes away. If I start the car again after a drive within about 2 hours the noise doesn't happen when I start it. What this noise could be? and also could the noise and the steering wheel tightening when the ac is on be connected?

View 11 Replies2006 6.0l ... I've read all over for tips on routing this belt and everyone plays it off as being some simple '20-minute' task. I'm on my 4th hour on this now.
I can't figure out how to route the belt around the tensioner pulley, circled in the picture (from another thread). Everyone glosses over how to do this and I can't figure it out.
It seems like the only way to get it on is to bend the belt and slide it between the pulley and the block, but that I just can't reach the blasted thing.
So I was trying to track down this squeak noise and I removed the drivers side seat belt but now the belt will not retract? It's stuck like this, is there a manual release? Buying another one is not a option right now. And I have to drive the car tomorrow morning.
View 1 RepliesI notice if I drive on anything other than a smooth road the suspension squeaks a lot. Is this normal when its -30C or -22F? Car has 30000km and is 2.5 years old if that makes a difference.
View 11 RepliesI am very concerned regarding how often my serpentine belt needs to be replaced. First time it was replaced at 104k, second time dealer replaced it at 126k, third time at 153k. Today I went for oil change (173k) and the dealer told me that it has little cracks and recommend replacing it. Is it normal? Could it be something else is affecting it?
View 11 RepliesI have had my Tiguan S for almost 2 years and it seems that I keep having to get it towed. I just had it to today because the serpentine belt came off when I was driving. After I bought it the fuel line was loose and it had to get put back on and after about 12000 miles my tranny went out and had to get replaced.
