I have a 2007 ES350. It started making a vibrating noise and sometimes screech coming from the serpentine belt area. It stops when I turn off the A/C and also stops when I accelerate with the A/C on (only does it when idling).
View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 Chrysler Voyager with 135000 miles and in good shape. My mechanic has replaced the serpentine belt 3 times in the last 24 months each time using a different manufacturer. The last time was <6 months ago. The tensioner pulley was replaced 10 months when the screeching noise returned as it has each time the belt is replaced. The other pulleys all seem to work fine. I use a small fingernail sized dab of NAPA's "Sil-Glyde" lubricant on the underside of the belt every 150-200 miles. I will use it more frequently if it has rained recently.
-AC works fine and is not associated with this screeching
-PS pump works fine and shows no leaks. Rack has been replaced. PS fluid system flushed and filled with new fluid.
-Alternator runs fine
2002 Isuzu Axiom screeches when turned on. If AC on, AC works fine but car screeches almost all the time. Can hear me coming a mile away. If AC is off, car stops screeching once running a moment. My mechanic said more torque on serpentine belt when AC on so he changed serpentine belt a few months ago and currently belt appears to be moving fine. He says compressor operates fine. Started about 6 months ago right after new transmission put in at dealership under Isuzu warranty. Mechanic stumped and waiting for something to break.
View 6 RepliesA noise has been coming from my Serp belt for awhile. My serpentine belt doesn't have any wear. At least It doesn't look like it. Will this noise go away by replacing it? or is it something else? Is it the tensioner? I've noticed when car warms up the noise goes away. I do not know the last time it was replaced.

Car - 2001 Jetta TDI with 230k miles.
There has been a noise coming from the serpentine belt area for some times now, and I thought when I get to work on the belt I will get it fixed.
Last night, I replaced the alternator with a brand new one from idpart with a clutch pulley (the original pulley was plastic). I also replaced the tensioner and serpentine belt with this kit from ECS: [URL] .....
Everything was put back tight and nicely. Turned on the engine: the noise is still there.
For sure there is one pulley on its way out, but with one?

It's a 2.0 AVH Jetta.
Is it time to replace? There is a noise coming from the belt and when I listen with the hood up my best guess is that it's the tensioner. I'm not sure if it is easy to replace or if that is even the problem. The belt looks fine. It allows me to twist it barely less than halfway so to me it does not seem loose. But in the rain last week got the battery light and lost power steering, power brakes, etc, then it went back to normal and hasn't failed again since. The car has 131,000 miles.
Is there a way to check the tensioner? It's pretty tight in there. Or am I wrong as to what the problem is? The sound is a rubbing/slight clicking sound that is in time with the engine and you can hear it if you listen inside the car when the engine is on. The belt also seems to wander around on the tensioner just a little. One day it was about a mm in too much, a few days later, a few mm out, in relation to the pulley.
So, when I was leaving work I started my car up and heard what sounds like a low grinding noise coming from the area where the serpentine belt is. Let the car idle and it remained.
Put the car in gear and drove off and the sound was still there. the sound gets louder as I increase my speed. It went away a couple of times when I was braking, then came back.
I stopped at the gas station and could still hear it. After getting gas, fired the car back up and heard nothing. When I drove off, the sound returned.
I got home and put it in park, leaving the car on, opened the hood and could still hear the noise. Pressed and held the gas a few times and the sound did get louder.
I am pretty sure it is coming from some rotating part, but no clue what part. What this could be?

View 4 RepliesI have a '06 sonata 3.3 v6. Let me first describe what was happening to the car before the noise started. When I first started the car and put the ac, the first time turning the steering wheel in either direction the steering wheel would tighten up and the battery indicator light would come on and the fasten seatbelt light would flash even though I had the belt fastened. It would only happen the first time I would make a turn and after that I could turn with no problem. So in recap, it would only happen on the first turn and only when the ac was on. Now when I start the car up there is a noise coming form the pulley/belt area. I wouldn't classify it as a squeaking noise more like a grinding. I've looked at the belt and it seems to be fine. After I start to drive the car the noise goes away. If I start the car again after a drive within about 2 hours the noise doesn't happen when I start it. What this noise could be? and also could the noise and the steering wheel tightening when the ac is on be connected?

View 2 RepliesGot a nice rattle coming from the serpentine belt area of the camry, before I order some parts, I'm thinking the bearing in the tensioner is done, I just don't want to swap it out only to find out its my water pump barking or alternator bearing/bushing. doesn't seem to be emanating from the alternator.

Leaving on a 200 mile trip in the morning and when checking the fluids, I found the serpentine belt trying to get off the AC pulley. I've put in on twice and it immediately jumps half way off when starting the engine. How long it's been doing this. Nothing is obviously loose or moved. What is likely causing this?
View 8 RepliesLong story short is, I replaced my 2007 Santa Fe's serpentine belt and it still squeals for some time after we start the vehicle (then stops) ... but more importantly I *think* its still slipping if we're driving during rain or on very wet roads.
Long story long is ... the problem appeared as loss of power steering and air conditioning when driving during rain. Took it to the dealer and they suggested to replace the serpentine belt, replace the shroud (plastic) that covers the belt, and replace the timing belt. As we have 36k miles on it, no one I talked to understood the timing belt suggestion. I see though perhaps its just because the car is 4 years old? The shroud the dealer claimed was cracked and may be letting water in on to the belt. However, they completely removed it and did not replace it so I was not able to inspect this myself (wife took the car in for the appointment).
I bought the new belt and put it on. The squeaking was gone but as soon as I hit rain again, the slipping was back as bad as before (and we'd lose power steering / air conditioning same as before). I had a 1.5 hour drive in rain where the belt was slipping almost nonstop; constant back and forth between catching and slipping.
When the replacement shroud came in I thought that might solve the problem - keeping moisture off the belt. However with that in place I'm afraid there is still some slippage as I've noticed some dashboard lights come on during brief heavy rain. Also the initial squeaking is back when we start the car.
I have changed belts on other cars just never a Lexs. how hard is it to do on or trucks?
View 7 RepliesI noticed my serpentine belt started squeaking about 3 days ago. And yesterday as I was driving to work I heard a clicking sound coming from the left side of the hood, then my car started to gradually shut down and white smoke was coming from the engine. When I got to the stoplight it completely turned off, but I was able to turn it back on again to turn into the parking lot before it shut off again. When I checked it there were no visible leaks, my reservoir for my coolant was still full, and my meter never went up indicating that my car was over heating. I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but after it sits for awhile it is able to turn back on again for a while.

I have a 2005 Prius with 86,000 miles. All of these issues started about 2 months ago, the day after an oil change.
The serpentine belt starting squeaking on cold and damp mornings about 18 months ago at about 60K. I replaced it with a Dayco belt, and the noise went away for about 6 months. When the weather turned cold last winter, the noise came back. So I changed the tensioner with both idler pulleys right about when the weather warmed up, and it was fine all summer. Now that it has gotten cold again, the squeak is back yet again and as before it goes away when the car warms up. I know it is the serpentine belt because when I spray it with water the noise immediately stops. I checked all the pulleys with the belt off and when I spin them I hear no noise. Is there something else it could be?
