I have a 2007 and I've just developed my first problem since I purchased the car new in 2007. While driving, my headlight(s) will turn off by themselves.
Sometimes it's the right one, sometimes it's the left one, and sometimes they will both stop working. Turning the headlight switch off and then on brings them back to life.
What part in the headlight system is causing this?
Recently I've noticed that my Automatic Headlight Leveling System has been acting strange. The headlights are constantly "scanning" up and down when driving and even when parked. other drivers are flashing me thinking I'm flashing them. I get the ALS error light on the dash rarely, but it always comes and goes, but the lights are always jumping up and down. I went to Lexus about a month ago and they said they didn't find any errors with the system. So they let me go with no charge. I finally made it in for a true diagnostic workup as the problem still continued, and after a diagnostic fee I was told that my Front Left Ride Height Sensor was failing.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2007 and lately the driver's side headlight goes out sometimes when I'm driving. If I turn the lights off, and then back on, it will light up again and stay lit. Sometimes it will work for weeks and then all of a sudden it will go out. So I'm thinking of replacing the bulb(s)
Are the headlight bulbs in the 2007 SC regular light bulbs that I can purchase at a local automotive store?
I'm wondering if it's possible to turn on the foglights without the headlights on the 2013+ LS460. I understand it's not possible without modification on 2007 - 2012 models, but I'm wondering if anything's changed.
Ideally, I would want to run the foglights as "daytime running lights", preferably without modifications.
Just had both my low beam D4S headlights replaced at an auto shop. Once I turn the car on or flick the low beam headlights on, they turn on for about 10 seconds and then the driver followed by the passenger low beam headlights turn off. Why this is happening as both bulbs are brand new. Before I had the bulbs replaced only one bulb worked so I elected to get both replaced.
View 2 RepliesSo, driving home from the meet & greet in DC yesterday and when I turned on the headlights, the auto-leveling light came on. It randomly came and went for a bit but was on continuously by the time we got home. Headlights work and are at the correct height. Lights cycle up/down when the key is turned. Other than the warning light, it appears to be working normally.
Of note, this was the first time using the lights after the airbag actuator recall last week. Not sure how it could be connected unless it is a dash connection issue. If not,how to isolate if or which sensor is causing the issue?
So my left headlight will randomly turn off while I am driving. If i turn off the lights and turn them back on its comes back on. Sometimes I have to do this a few times in order for it to work. What are possible issues that I could be having. Right now I am thinking it could be the ballast or the fuses. If the bulb had gone out it shouldn't be turning on at all right?

View 7 RepliesI am having this weird issue that started from what I believe this weekend. I was doing 70mph and it was snowing. Not always but something like maybe 1 out of 5 times when I activated the washer fluid motor my headlights would turn off for like 1-2 seconds. Super scary when you are driving in the pitch dark on a highway.

When it is raining outside with the air conditioning turned on and then I turn the headlights on, the A/C goes off. there are no lights on the console and the fans stop blowing. If I turn the headlights off again the A/C works again.

This has happened three times now, about a month to six weeks apart. Eventually it starts exactly like normal. I can't put my finger on exactly what I did between "not crank" and "crank like normal" but it wasn't anything significant, that's for sure.
Tonight I cleaned the battery terminals, but they actually looked very good. Looking back, I should have checked how tight they were before taking the cable off, but I didn't. Not sure whether a loose cable could explain these symptoms.
I was thinking this was starter or solenoid? Any other diagnosis consistent with the symptoms?
So my sc430 keeps giving me trouble and all the lights come on while i am driving and then it shuts off on me. I could be wrong but i think it has something to do with a iphone connection that i have. I originally thought it was the battery so i replaced that and it was running fine for a day with no issues. Then today shortly after i tried to use the iphone connector the same thing happened.
View 1 RepliesWhen start my car and turn on the lights, its on for a few moments and they flicker, and then the driver side turns off. I toggle the switch off and on, and they fire right back up, but few moments later its off again. After about 10 minutes of doing that, they usually stay on, but once I make a quick stop (at store or bank for example) and turn off the headlights, the issue starts again and I usually cant get them to stay on after that unless I park the car for a few hours, and go through the 10 mins of screwing around with them again. Sometimes it will cause the passenger side to turn off as well, or sometimes even both!
I really need to fix this, along with my front parking lights in the bumper and the rear side bumper lights as well. I also have to take care of my license plate lights, which the harness does not even seem to be there behind the left lens, and the right one is missing.
I want to fix them, but if I take apart the fixtures, I want to polish the inside of the lens. and do any other mods at that time. I want to stick with the HID's, but maybe get some different bulbs for the low beam, that funky yellowish light that runs during the day, and the fog lights. I am not going to mess around with the LED's for a while. I had halogens in my last car that I had to update to HID to get good light, and these SC lights are even better since they are auto leveling, and turn with the car for the most part as well.
Does this sound like the bulbs? I heard of people online changing the bulbs and still having this issue. I thought it could be ballasts, but I am a newbie to the HID lighting so I am not sure. There are youtube vids up with this issue on the SC and ES models also I believe, so this is a known problem that pops up for everyone at one point during ownership.
So everything in my car has no memory issues but my clock always says 1:00 ... when I start the car....
I have tried another control unit (the climate control, nav screen, etc buttons) where the clock is located to see if I had a bad unit and it still did the same thing.
I have a brand new battery from Lexus and everything else in the car seems to be fine....this was an issue before I bought the new battery.
SC430 with 104k miles on it
Went to start her up today. As I began to turn it over--nearly immediately--I heard what can only be described as a thump followed by whirring. (I'd like to believe the thump was related but cannot be certain). Tried to start again, only very briefly, and all I could hear is that "whirring". It will not turn over and I'm hoping that neither attempt damaged anything.
If I had to guess, I'd say the timing belt snapped immediately as the starter was beginning to turn over the engine. Is there a relatively quick way to diagnosis this without potentially damaging the engine any further? An access port/hole or cover I can see through or remove to determine if the belt is snapped? What else could it be? Starter solenoid failure? That would certainly be easier to diagnose.
Just wondering if it's possible to have the driving lights/fogs to turn on with the headlights when the switch is in AUTO? We prefer to just leave the switch in AUTO mode, but it defeats the purpose of even having the front driving lights as they are never used.
View 3 RepliesIts not super cold but in Tampa ever since I installed my headers and its 60 or below i've gotten the VSC and ABS lights on in the dash after driving a little bit. Typically this is a cold morning type thing.
I reset the lights and it went away for a few days (it also got 30 degrees warmer) once it got down to 55 the lights came back on. Parked the car went in to work and when I drove home the lights were off (without re-setting the lights).
I know the codes can mean different things. The car is driving the same as always too- I have PPE headers, Ingen Intake, and a muffler delete.
About every 10 to 20 minutes while driving I hear 5 or six intermittent beeps. No warning lights or anything, just the beeps. What is it? I have a 2002 SC430.
View 7 RepliesI had a issue today and it made me scared to drive the SC ever again. While I was driving this light came on that kept blinking and making a beeping noises, after a while of blinking (approximately 30 seconds) the steering wheel jerked to the left and right really fast, luckily there was no car around me. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder. After a couple minutes I drove home on the service road without incident. Why this happened.
View 6 RepliesI have had my '02 SC since 2007 and frequently when I turn the key to start, I hear an instantaneous "electronic click" sound. I have ignored it and no service person has ever mentioned it, nor have I requested a Lexus diagnosis.
