I have a 2002 Passat GLS and when I tried to start my car this morning, it would not start. When I turn on the ignition, the car gives off a loud clicking sound. The interior and exterior light works, the panel light works, and the radio works as well. What might be the problem?
View 4 RepliesJust got back from the supermarket. Unloaded groceries and my Passat wouldn't start when I went to park it. Turned the key and it just makes a clicking noise - clock and trip odometer reset themselves also. If I turn the key the car just makes a clicking noise and the lights on the dash all flash on and off.
I am going to see if it starts after being jumped in a few minutes.
Other potentially useful info - I was testing a radar detector for work the other day and it has a battery voltage meter. It was reading in the 11.0 - 11.6 volt range. Is this too low - just wondering if the alternator was not supplying a sufficient charge. Not sure how accurate these are. The battery was changed around a year ago so I'm sure it's not the battery. I am assuming starter or alternator.
I Have a 2002 Trailblazer and when i turn on the rear A/C there is a loud clicking sound coming from the back of the truck. It is on the passenger side up by the interior light in the third row. If i turn off the Rear A/C or turn the knob and have both the overhead and the feet blow out it does not click.
View 3 RepliesI own a 2006 GS300 for 4 years and I have about 90k miles on it. Just suddenly today when I went to go turn the car on, I hear a rapid loud clicking noise and the engine will not start. I've done some googling and one possible solution is to disconnect the battery to let the car reset and then connect it back. What the cause is? I've replaced the spark plugs a few months ago, but I didn't replace the battery.
View 13 RepliesI drive a 2006 Acura MDX with about 30000 miles on it. Today when I put the key in my ignition and attempted to start it I hear a clicking sound and the car wont start. The first time I attempted to turn on my headlights they did turn on. But then when I tried a few seconds later they would not. And I am seeing lights flickering on my dashboard as well. Do I have a dead battery or possibly something worse?
View 4 RepliesSo as per my prior post i was having issues with my directional (blinker) the clicking sound would continue after the blinker turned off. Replaced the hazard warning relay (whole hazard switch) and the problem is still happening. I was playing with the actual blinker control arm today and i got it to make the clicking noise without the flashing light to come on so that seems to be what the problem is. Thinking to have that signal arm replaced? I think that it is not totally disengaging after i turn the wheel. is this something i could do myself? I have the bentley manual to take apart the steering wheel.

View 28 RepliesWhat is wrong with my Passat: once a week my car fails to start. When clutch is pressed and ignition key is turned I can hear relay under dash is clicking and nothing happening. It does not sound to me as starter (I hope). After a few seconds and few attempts car starts normally. I checked which relay is clicking and it was Relay # 53 (starting interlock relay), which linked to a clutch switch. Replaced this relay and after a week problem repeated.
View 2 RepliesYesterday I went out for a few errands, but noticed the car was a little sluggish when starting. So, when I got home, after I turned off the ignition, I tried to start the car again. Just clicking and then nothing. Did that a few times and then just gave up. This morning I decided to try again. At first, just clicking, but then I started to pump the gas pedal and it started fine. I want to have it checked, but what to expect at the repair shop.
View 5 Replies2002 vw Passat GLX 4motion... Car has been driving fine with no issues. Then out of the blue it just won't start back up. Battery is 6 months old. And wouldn't start with a jump. I think it is a completely different issue. The power windows stopped working but other features do work like stereo power seats interior lights...Main problem is no lights on dash whatsoever. But when key turns from accessories position to starting position nothing happens. No clicking, no resistance between positions it is as if the ignition is just missing..?
View 2 RepliesI drove my '02 Camry last night to a restaurant and when I came out it would not start. I have never had any problems with my Camry. I have a new strong battery.
All the lights, bells, radio, a/c, door locks, dash lights came on and work fine. There was no clicking sound of the starter. It would not turn over at all. NO SOUND AT ALL. I did move the shifter handle several times thinking it may have been the kill switch on the shifter.
Wife's car won't start today. Just get clicking sound when I put the key in, and a random message about airbag defective, or steering lock defective. We tried jump starting, but no luck. Do we have to pay to get it towed to the dealer, or will should they take care of that? I guess the starter went out?
View 4 RepliesI am having an issue with my 2002 GTI 1.8T. I have tried searching for an answer to this, and found a couple things saying maybe it could be the secondary air pump but wanted to get more opinions before I go shell out money to chase this problem.
When I start up the car in the morning after having it sit overnight, the car does the normal thing where it increases rpm's to about 1100 to warm it up. During this a loud "whistling" noise can be heard. Once the car is warmed up a little bit, the rpm's decline to about 900, and the whistling sound goes away. When this happens though it almost sounds as if a valve or something is closing causing the noise to go away.
Also, I am unsure if this is related to this, sometimes when I am driving, I will be accelerating and the car seems to stop accelerating as strong as it was, boost goes down from around 8 or 9 psi to about 4 and I seem to lose power as if I had let off the gas some. When I put my foot further down the car accelerates harder again and boost goes back up.
I have already changed spark plugs, cleaned MAF sensor, and run the 3m 3 part engine cleaning kit through it.
At 100k I took my 2004 CR-V in for belated 90k maintenance. Besides the routine stuff, they had to replace the ball joints. They also rotated and balanced the tires, which are about 15k miles old.
Took the car home, and immediately noticed a loud clicking in the right wheel when I turned it hard at slow speeds, parallel parking, etc. Took it back to the shop and was informed that it was a spindle problem. Mechanics said this was merely a coincidence, not a result of their recent work, but nicely charged me only for parts not labor. They had to replace the ABS sensor in the course of this work.
Next day, had to take a long weekend trip, about 500 miles there and back. Half-way through, noticed two things: groaning/clicking noise in brakes at slow speeds, and a slight but detectable vibration through the gas pedal when traveling 30-50MPH. Also a faint "wobble" sound at this speed as though coming from front right tire.
Took it back to the shop: was told that brake rotors were rusted and this was responsible for groaning/clicking--something to do with warping due to the rust + car getting warm from long drive. They lubed up the rotors real good and there is no more sound, though I've not driven it a long distance yet.
BUT, faint vibration in gas pedal and wobble noise at 30-50 persists. Mechanic said that when they rotated the tires, they noted that they had gone "out of round," but thought balancing might bring them back in round. Is it possible that the sound & vibration are just from the tires trying to find their level? Is this the kind of thing where I'm all of a sudden looking at 4 new tires (seems premature)? Any other front-end possibilities? Should I take it to a tire shop? I have found my mechanics pretty good over the past couple of years, but this recent series of visits has made me slightly leery...
I'm a fairly new owner of a 2002 W8 Passat. A few days ago I was leaving the grocery store to come home. The car usually starts right up. This time is took 2 or 3 tries of cranking the starter til it fired on. On the drive home I noticed the A/C no longer worked and it didn't display the temperature on the A/C screen like usual. I got home just fine. The next morning I tried to start it. The starter and battery sound very strong. I was a little low on fuel so I dumped two gallons in - didn't work. I noticed a sound like a hard drive spinning or searching coming from the middle of the dash. I thought is was the cd player, but I ruled that out by taking out the stereo fuse. Is there a computer that went bad? I can't imagine there being an actual spinning hard drive in the car, but that's what it sounds like to me. I also noticed the clock and trip meter were reset as well. I didn't disconnect the battery to cause this. All fuses look good. I'm hoping it's not the fuel pump. Bad relay?
View 7 Replieshave an issue with my 03 trailblazer. i have the problem of no start when key turned to start position. actually nothing happens when the key is turned to start position. dash comes on when key is turned to on pos tho. took battery off and had it tested and it is at full charge. took starter off and had it tested and it passed. checked ignition relay cavities per this youtube video "Chevy Trailblazer no crank testing and information" and there is no light when touching the ground request cavity and turning the key to start position.

Sometimes this " hissing " sound will come back on when driving and then off again ...

I have a 1989 Acura Integra standard shift. Without any pattern, the car won't start. All the lights come on when I turn the key but there is no sound indicating it trying to turn over. If I leave it alone for a little while, it will often start. By the way, this never happens in the morning even in below freezing temperatures.

Anyway, when i turn the AC on, to max or normal the fan blows with no cold at all. I did notice a clicking relay sound under the truck only when the AC was turned on, it happens every 2-3 seconds. Does my system need recharged, or is it a bad relay? Also, is there a guide on recharging my sig rig?

View 1 RepliesEvery couple of days I'll notice the wipers sort of "twitch" up the windshield about " when I turn the car off. They don't go back down until the car is started and rolling forward. I'm not sure if there's a particular speed that triggers this, but it would have to be less than 5 mph.
The wipers seem to work fine. My local service department suggested that the wipers might be in "service" (a.k.a. "winter") mode. Based on what the owner's manual says about winter mode I'd have to disagree. The wipers move just the smallest amount.
