I own a 2001.5 Passat and a while ago I noticed that the plastic headlight protectors have this strange rough grime on them that doesn't come off when you wash the car. It is kind of yellow colored. What this stuff is and how I can get it off?

View 19 RepliesBoth of the headlights on my 2007 Accent 3-door have blistering of the chrome plastic inside the headlight. This started a year or so ago, I asked about it at the dealership, but I never got a call. At the time my life was pretty hectic and the dealership is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I asked about it at least one other time when I was there for service, someone was going to check on it, and again I heard nothing more.

View 5 RepliesOk, got in a fender bender a few weeks ago. The plastic strips (with the Torx screws) holding the headlight steady, broke from the impact. The headlight itself is fine, no glass was broken, headlight still works, but without those plastic things, it will not, of course, stay still. My question is...would I need to buy a whole new headlight just because the plastic tabs are broken?
View 5 RepliesI got a CEL this morning and the car was driving rough, tach bouncing at idle so I popped the hood and the plastic funnel that the oil cap screws into was completely broken off from the top of the engine. I was picking little slivers of plastic from it out of the hole in the pic. Fortunately the oil cap actually screwed into the spot where the plastic cylinder had broken out of. Not sure if that's by design but it worked and the car drove ok after.

I noticed something clunking around in the plastic piece that is on the trunk lid itself - the piece that covers the brake lights. When the trunk goes up or down, there is a distinct noise that is something rolling around in there.
I pulled off the access panel to get to the lights, but is does the rest of it just snap off if I pull at it or use a pry tool?
The plastic housing on the headlights for my 2001 Passat wagon is really fogging up and yellowing pretty badly. Is there a way to fix the yellowing/fogging? If not, what are good replacement headlights that won't cost me an arm and a leg? I'll need the entire assembly, not just the bulb.

View 2 RepliesI had a little run in with a curb a few months back, nothing major, just came up and bit me, and the passenger side plastic grill covering the foglight popped out. Since then it's come compltely out, onto the street, twice, when my car bottoms out. Both times it's happened I've been going no more that 5-10mph and I don't even realize it's missing 'till I'm back in the driveway.
The car in the picture isn't mine, just something to show what I'm talking about. My 2001 passat wagon (v6 4motion) bottoms way too much. It's not even lowered.
The plastic shield under the engine has fell down and dragged while driving. I have put it back up with zip ties and i seem to be getting worse gas mileage now since air is catching?? Is it ok just to remove this guard?
View 5 RepliesHow to remove the plastic dash trim on the Passenger side? Is there a way to do this without removing the glovebox? I know there is one screw that needs to be removed. Mine creaks pretty badly. Ive already removed the center console trim and added felt to all those pieces. No more ticks/ creaks.
I guess I could have the dealer remove it but I dont want them taking my glovebox out to do it = more rattles. Why does VW make it so difficult to remove something that should be so simple!!
So I recently bought a 2010 Chevy Silverado LTZ with 31,000 miles (5.3l engine). After having the truck a few days, I have noticed a couple of problems ...
1) I have noticed there is a rough idle in the passenger seat while the truck is in drive. Once the truck is started and driven about 5 minutes, once you come to a complete stop in drive (ex. stop light) a rough idle over takes the truck. You can feel this idle a lot more in the passenger seat than in the driver seat. The RPM gauge also fluctuates during the rattle.
2) At night my the headlights flicker randomly, on and off very quickly.
3) In the morning when I start the truck and drive it a bit, I hear a rattle which sounds like it is coming from the front right of the truck. Bumps do not trigger this rattle, which usually only lasts a couple seconds. I usually hear the rattle between 1,000 and 1,200 rpms.
I have taken the truck into the shop 2 times to get these items fixed, and they said they cannot feel a rough idle.
So I noticed a yellowish color inside one of my rear LED turn signal housings. When I looked closer, the plastic around LEDs on the bottom half of the outside LED circle was yellow and appeared to be melted (all LEDs worked fine though).
