I noticed something clunking around in the plastic piece that is on the trunk lid itself - the piece that covers the brake lights. When the trunk goes up or down, there is a distinct noise that is something rolling around in there.
I pulled off the access panel to get to the lights, but is does the rest of it just snap off if I pull at it or use a pry tool?
My trunk wont open from the button inside the car but I can open the trunk using the remote.
View 5 RepliesSo, I took my 2012 SEL in for a number of issues - one of which was a "clunking" sound in the trunk lid. Dealer had me come pick the car up, letting me know they fixed all the issues and found the source of the noise. Turns out it was a small rubber block that looks to be a sort of spacer/sound deadener, but the dealer has no clue where they go. There were two (2) of these little bastards rolling around in there, and I really want to put them where they belong...but I dont know where they go...
View 10 RepliesThe remote trunk release as well as the trunk release lever inside my 2001.5 GLS V6 do not pop the trunk anymore so I suspect the motor is gone. I took the trunk cover off and got to the motor. I can't tell from looking at the motor if it is bad or not but I suspect it is. How I can test this to see if it is bad?

I have a pip which is about 2 months old and has around 6056 miles on it. I had a 2010 prius hatch before this drove it 186000 miles with out even needing to change the brakes and it didn't have any of the following symptoms.
ever since i drove the pip off the lot i have been noticing allot of creaking in the plastics inside the car and squeaking the cup holder and the dash it all got worse once i installed trd lowering springs i now this is happening due to road vibrations but should i take it to toyota and tell them that it feels like all the plastic pieces are lose inside the car and broken.
My car smells like some plastic part is burning inside. The heat works just fine but for some reason i am getting this horrible smell. How to get to air filter of the fan.
View 5 RepliesSo I cold started our V today and the electric motor turned on. When it switched over to the gas motor when I turned the heat on in the car, there was a violent plastic on plastic clunking or clanging type of noise. Sounded like something sheered itself off the motor. Then after about 5 seconds, it went away. Drove the car for a while, no check engine lights, no other weird noises, no problems. Engine seems like it has been ticking a bit in all this cold weather but I figure it was just lifter noise so I ignored it. Car is a 2012 with approximately 17k miles on it. Going to try to see if the same thing happens when I cold start it tomorrow morning in the frigid air. Car just had its 15k service and the dealer said it was perfect.....I don't get it. This noise was freaking loud. We LOVE this car btw...never thought I would say this about a hybrid because I am a HP nut, but this is the best, most functional car we have ever owned so far.

This started a year or so ago, I asked about it at the dealership, but I never got a call. At the time my life was pretty hectic and the dealership is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I asked about it at least one other time when I was there for service, someone was going to check on it, and again I heard nothing more.

View 11 RepliesAfter battling the general nitwit public earlier. I was on my way home and as I neared my house, a party bus was blocking the road. Well, I got angry, shifted to reverse, revved the engine while letting out the clutch to back up and take a different route. Then this horrible burning electric/plastic smell inundated the inside of my R. I knew I rode that clutch while backing up. My question is did I do noticeable damage my clutch, or is it one of those: it'll be fine just don't do it again thing?
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to figure out a small leak on my mothers' Santa Fe. Recently I smelled coolant after my mother had gone for a long drive. I checked the Radiator and overflow... need maybe 1 qt of coolant.
Now I'm trying to find the cause of the missing coolant ! While it's running, I see no leak. Shut it off and it starts to drip from a small plastic tube on the firewall inside the engine bay area (on the passenger side). It drips down onto a rubber boot covering some steering stuff. Is this from the heater core?
Can't open the trunk and need to get it open for body work. How can I unlatch it from the inside.
View 6 RepliesMy wife claims that it sounds like something rolling around in the trunk. I emptied the trunk and checked the spare tire and jack, it was all good.
I drove the car last night in the rain, I think that I heard something once, not the end of the world noise that she describes. Tonight I plan to crawl under and look at the sway bar bushings etc. She claims that it does it mostly when she hits a "big bump". The real cause/solution is probably not to hit big bumps!
I think the sway bar bushings usually make a popping noise, maybe its the sway bar link.
I am able to open the trunk with remote but not from latch inside or key! Whats the diagnosis and fix?

We cannot seem to get an answer from local Volvo Dealers because they are profit driven and want us to come in so they can sell us service and when we go online to ask a mechanic.

View 16 RepliesI've got a '94 Mazda miata which is in good shape, with among other things a fair number of suspension upgrades. It drives really well, other than the clunk. On the occasional bump it clunks as if something is loose on the driver's side rear. I've checked the shocks, springs, jacked it up and inspected everything I can think of. I'm looking for wisdom from your decades of experience (in your terms wasted time) on what it might be.
