Prius (2004-09) :: AC Low Pressure Side Real High - Compressor Not Running / Starts And Stops

May 31, 2013

I'm trying to add some 134 to the AC to see if it will work at all. it slowly stopped last year. I got a charge hose and a can of just 134a. When I attached the hose the gauge pegs on the high pressure side. I know I'm on the low pressure side and the compressor isn't running. It starts and stops. Should the pressure be that high with the compressor not running?

Ford A/C :: High Pressure Cut Off Stops The Compressor

I just had the good fortune of buying a 1988 F250 Diesel (IH 7.3 non turbo) from an older couple - few miles, always garaged and always dealer serviced. It hasnt been driven muvch in the last few years and has only 67K miles.

The air conditioner isnt blowing cold. It was converted to 134a by the dealership in 2000 with all the correct fittings, labels etc - a nice conversion. When I attach a guage to the low side the compressor starts up, the pressure quickly rises to approx 45lbs and what I presume is a high pressure cut off stops the compressor, the system pressure then quickly drops and the compressor restarts. the whole cycle only takes about 15 seconds or so...

I assumed that slow leakage over time had occurred so began by adding a small amount of a combination of 2oz of oil and 2 oz of 134a...I saw no difference in the pressure fluctuations nor the cycle times so shut down the system. There are two valves (needle valves) on both sides of the compressor but they don't look closed.

Prius (2004-09) :: Electric Whirring Sound When AC Compressor Starts Running

I have a 2009 Prius with about 56K miles on it that I absolutely love. Now I know from reading in the forums an my own experience that when the A/C compressor starts running you hear an electric whirring sound. My question is... is it a cause for concern when the sound it makes seems different -- the pitch sounds lower to me now. The A/C still works fine, but I didn't know if this changing sound means the compressor was on the way out.

Prius (2004-09) :: A/C Compressor Cycles On For Couple Seconds Then Stops

Just rescued this 2004 from a driveway death. While checking out a no A/C condition I notice that the A/C compressor cycles on for about 10-15 seconds then stops, does this 4 times and then ends. System shows low pressure but doesn't run long enough to build up any. Need to get the OBD-2 tester on it.

Prius (2004-09) :: ICE Starts And Stops Continuously

I stopped at a light yesterday and the day before and the ICE will turn off, then turn on for a second or two, then off, then on for a second or two, etc. it did this for probably 15 seconds until I let my foot off the brake and coasted forward a few feet then stopped again. What the heck is going on. It's done it twice now.

Prius (2004-09) :: AC Stops Working After Running For About 30 Minutes

My wife has recently been complaining that the AC will work for a while, but then it stops working after running for about 30 minutes. She also reports that, at that time, the air flow (blower speed?) seems to drop tremendously. I have observed the former but not the latter, so I can't say for sure that if it really drops in air flow or if it's just a matter of perception. I put my AC gauges on it and it reports the following:

Static reading is 70/100 PSI

Reading system on is 17/145 PSI

Ambient temperature is ~92 degrees humidity is 65%

Vent reading is ~77 degrees

I can see movement in the sight glass while the vehicle is running. I'd like to add a little refrigerant (if that's what it looks like it needs) just to see if we can make it through the summer. Prior to the AC problems popping up.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: AC Running Intermittently / Airflow Stops Then Start / Compressor Kicks In And Out

2012 F250 6.2L - AC will be working well with all fan speeds, then airflow just stops and compressor kicks out. Will run (or actually not run) that way for 4-5 minutes, then all of a sudden the compressor kicks in and airflow restarts, and air is nice and cold for another 10 minutes or so when it'll cycle off on its own again.

I've tried all different combinations of AC/MaxAC/fan speeds/and temp settings with no change in behavior. Only occurs in warm weather when AC is on; when just using heat the blower never changes on it's own and everything is great.

BTW - I've looked through all the HVAC FAQs and probably 200 different threads that come up under different search terms, but haven't seen this particular problem. If it was just lack of cooling but airflow didn't change, then it'd be easy. Or if it was only blower issues in certain speed settings, that's got lots of fixes too. But nothing where cooling and fan quit and restart on their own together that I've found.

Prius (2004-09) :: Tire Pressure Warning Light Keeps Come On Then Starts Blinking

I've had my prius since April and the tire pressure light keeps coming on. It's been in to the dealer 5 times now and they have yet to find out what's causing it. It doesn't come on when I'm driving in town but only when I'm going out of town on a trip. I make almost monthly trips that are approximately 180 miles one way. I don't go over any mountain chains or have any large increase/decrease in temperature. I've been documenting when it comes on and it seems to be about 1 1/2 hrs into our trip but it has come on earlier also. Basically, the light will come on, start blinking for several seconds and then stay on until the car is stopped. Then it'll turn off. However, I've also had it only stay on for a few minutes before it turned off. It's never on when I take it in to be looked at.

Saab - 9-3 :: Idling / Driving Real Rough And Dying At Stops

Car was idling and driving real rough and dying at stops. Turns out that the transmission mount was torn so I replaced it and verified that the other two motor mounts were good. Car was still running rough but on a drive with some jerky shifts (automatic) after about 20 miles all is well and I'm running as smooth as a baby's bottom with great turbo action. Cars just don't fix themselves. What could have been wrong? By the way there were no codes from the Tech ll. Using a pc of tubing I can't hear any vacuum leaks nor when spraying brake cleaner on the hose ends does the engine race.

Chrysler - Mitsubishi - Lebaron :: 1994 - Oil Pressure Gauge Starts Very High

I have a 1994 Chrysler Lebaron. The issue I've been having is for the last two weeks, my oil pressure gauge starts very high(out of normal range), and stays there for a very long time. Whilst it's at the highest possible level, the engine starts to heat up, until the gauge goes into range. This all happens without the car moving. If I leave the car on for 30 minutes(without moving it) the gauge goes into normal range, and for the most part operates normally. I have disconnected the Compressor's belt, in order to be able to turn on the engine fan from inside the car. As long as I keep the fan on, the engine stays cool for the most part.

I have considered that it was sludge, as it would soften as the engine heats up, but I have done an engine flush(machine), and the issue continues.

So far every mechanic I take it too, acts like it's impossible for the oil pump to have any issues, and claims it's normal behavior, which it's not.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Cooling Starts And Stops With Frequent Intervals

When using the AC on my 2004 Prius, in any mode, any temperature, on fresh or recirculate, the cooling starts and stops every 5-10 mins. When the cooling is on, it is nice an cold, but then no matter how hot outside, the cooling stops and I am just getting vent air. After a while, the temp in the car gets way above the set point, and it kicks back on and cools again. This occurs over and over again.

Being as the cooling works well some of the time, I was wondering if it is a controller, not the cooling system itself.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Passenger Side High Beam And Driver Side Regular Headlight Went Out

My 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.

On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.

I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:

1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - A/C Blower Speed Slows Down When Set To High After Running For A While?

I have a 2006 Prius and lately, the fan will stop blowing hard on long drives on hot days when the fan is set to High. This happened on a 3 hour trip on the interstate and again when I was driving some back road for about 2 hours. The first time, I noticed the cabin temp was getting hotter so I went to switch the fan speed higher and noticed it was already on high. It was not set to Auto.

When I got home, I let the car cool down for about 30 minutes and when I turned on the car, the AC was blowing full speed and was getting cold like normal. When the fan speed slowed down on its own on the interstate, it was probably blowing at a speed similar to what the fan would normally blow if set to the middle position or maybe even below that. Why the fan would slow down on its own when set on high.

I also just checked the temperature coming from the vent after running the AC on LO temp for about 10 minutes. It was reading 50 degrees with a digital meat thermometer and 46 degrees with an infrared thermometer. So, when the car is cool, the AC seems to be working fine. Just wondering about the fan speed and the fact that the car gets really warm when it slows down on its own.

I wonder if it shows high pressure on my 2010 gen III Prius v with ATP. I know that the tires are special on this v version but still I like to keep a slightly higher pressure in the front ones because the lane keep assist feature works better with higher tire pressure. Summer is coming up so that gets me worried what to do with tire pressures.
