I get a knock noise, actually more of a crack sound, when going over a bump with front nearside wheel. It sounds like it’s coming from behind and on a level with the glove compartment. I have checked suspension and steering components (including strut top nuts) which seems good and emptied junk out of glove compartment but noise persists.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius basic model bought second hand. There are two issues since I have bought the car; first it will roll back or forward when the brake applied, this happens on any uphill or downhill. I brought the car to Toyota service centre, they did a brake test, the test passed. but this doesn't resolve this issue. It just very weird. during driving, all brake works ok, but parking the car, if not in even service, it starts to roll.
Second, recently I hear there's a crack sound when apply the brake during low speed, especially during the stop/start traffic, and I notice mostly happens when the electrical motor in running. So when brake, the crack, like the spark comes from somewhere like battery. While brake to slow down from high speed, seems no sound. So I suspect it was from the battery or electric motor.
I've had my new Camry a week now with Michelins on them and I feel every crack and bump in the road. Cold pressure they read 33psi. Do these tires need to be "broken in"? .What are you all running? The door label says 35 but that seems high to me.

View 4 RepliesYesterday I started feeling a constant bump coming from the middle of the vehicle... i can really feel it with with elbow on the console. The bumping seems to speed it up with transmission but it does continue when i slip it into neutral. I stopped by the dealership and they said "It's prolly some motor that in the middle of the car. It happens on a lot of touaregs"

There is a new sound that has started coming from the front of the car in the engine compartment or even lower. It is a turning turbine like sound that is mostly obvious when driving at 60 mph, but my guess is that it is always there, but not as audible at lower speeds. The air and heater are both off and have no effect on this sound. The only thing that could have had anything to do with it is that a day or two before, the tires were low so I filled them to 40 psi. The other thing is that it clicked over to 80K the last week and the friendly red maintenance required light came on.
When I put my fob in and waiting for ICE to kick in, I here this weird sound under dash. I think it's pretty innocent, it sounds like a weak car horn that is not getting any juice. It's intermittent and it seems right in front of me under dash, or firewall.
The car starts fine and runs fine. It happens usually after car has set for maybe 3 days.
Ok my 2004 F150 has been messing up lately. The 4wd doesn't work. Pretty sure that's the actuators however, now it is riding EXTREMELY rough! Every time I turn the wheel to turn into a parking lot and then proceed to enter the lot something in the front end pops! Loudly! It sounds like popping out a dent like its loud! What it is. I just know 4wd doesn't work, there is a loud popping noise when I hit pot holes or turns. I CANT even go off road now because of the popping noise and also it is extremely extremely rough. Any clues on what's up?
View 3 RepliesI have had my 07' Prius about a month now and have noticed a odd sound coming from the left front of the car when accelerating. When I accelerate I hear an off metallic crackling sound. It almost sounds like marbles swishing around. The sound is coming from the left side of the car in the engine bay. If I had to guess it sound like it's coming from under the invertor area. The sound only happens when I am accelerating at a moderate pace.
View 10 RepliesThis morning when I heard some knocking from the ICE and found NO oil on the dipstick. You wouldn't BELIEVE the drive the car did the day before when I lent it to my sister-in-law). Anyway, I thought the red triangle would illuminate with low oil. I can't seem to get the light to illuminate. Even when I first start the car and "all" indicators light up during the test. I'd say this is one important light. We've had the car less than a month and I could swear that when we first got it I saw the triangle at start up.

View 1 RepliesIn my 2006 Prius, I just started noticing this recently, but whenever I turn my steering wheel, it makes a weird noise and I can feel something going on through the steering wheel. It doesn't impede my steering, the car steers just fine... It's just an add sound, I don't want to say a cracking sound... but it kind of is? I don't know. I'll have to put a video of it up. & it doesn't matter which way I turn it, it still makes the weird sound and the intermittent vibration... I know it has E-steering and occasionally you can here the motor whirring when you turn it but this is different, it's a loud... popping noise is the word for it! Popping, and I can feel it when it pops through the steering wheel. Again, it doesn't impede the steering ability at all, but something isn't right I'm sure... Or maybe it's normal.

View 5 RepliesI bought a 2006 Sebring convertible in Florida last winter. The driver's car door made a loud crack sound every time I opened it, so I had it fixed in May and returned up north. I have returned to Florida and after a couple of times opening the door with no problems, the loud crack sound started again. Is there another, connecting part, they should have looked at, or replaced, or does it need yet another replacement part?
View 3 RepliesOn my 2012 F150 Supercrew 4x4, when I'm entering parking lots, or other places where I'm turning and going over bumps at the same time, the front suspension make a fairly loud sound. It seems to be much worse when turning left, and the sound comes from the Passenger front side, I think.
The sound is a fairly sharp "snap" or "crack" or maybe even a "bong" kind of thing. So all you keyboard mechanics. As a bonus question, once we have guessed what it is, can I fix it myself with hand tools and very little mechanical aptitude?
2001 Prius with 190K Km (119K mi) on it.
Some background on the car: An inverter replacement when it was less than one year old, the Big-Hand issue, the engine ECU (I think) replaced just after warranty expired, resealing of traction battery terminals... And last month the front brake pads (original) had to be replaced because the driver side inner pad fell off while braking on the highway. lol. The problem was probably due to the inner pads being jammed and received excessive wears. Also, on at least two occasions, the engine ran with extremely low level of oil, or none at all (to the point where the engine sounded different and occasionally shuddered). I don't know what caused the oil level to drop, but ever since then, the engine seems to be going through the entire reservoir of synthetic oil advertised to last 25000 Km in just 5000 Km (~3200 mi). Not sure if the engine is eating up the oil or the car is leaking oil (there is no oil stain where the car is normally parked).
Problem: When the car was brought in for tire replacements last week, the tech noted that "Head gasket leak. Also leaking from tranny cover. Could be crack seal" with an estimate cost to fix the issue at several thousand dollars, which has been vetted by a family member who is a heavy mechanic. I have attached the report for reference.
The Prius that I bought brand new last October has developed a crack just above the driver's side windshield wiper. I noticed it today while washing the car. At that time it was about eight or nine inches long, and relatively hard to see due to being so low on the windshield. I inspected the crack very carefully and could not see ANY type of impact damage. After driving it around for the day, the crack has now splintered off and is going in a few different directions now. In a couple of places along the crack a few small chips have also broken off.
View 10 RepliesHad an enormous crack in the windshield of our 2010 Prius and recently had it fixed. It leaked. Tech came out to fix the problem and check for water damage-we didn't see any at the time, but the fix didn't take and it's leaking again. This time, much worse. Here's what the discussion title refers to.
I'm concerned that the water damage will contribute to a problem down the road- corrosion in the electronics in the roof, damage to the carpeting(?) on the ceiling, mold etc. I would like to take the car into the dealer and have them give it a once-over, but want the glass repair shop to foot the bill. My philosophy is: I wouldn't have to get things checked out if you hadn't botched the install-twice. Their philosophy is: unless you can show us evidence of malfunction, we're not paying for someone else to look at it. I feel like they should go the extra step to put my mind at ease and make sure that any developing problem can be addressed now instead of having to wait until something goes bad.
Have a 2008 RX350. It is our first Lexus product. The dashboard has begun to crack. Now has 4 cracks of various sizes. Contacted Lexus they said too bad. This should not happen to a Luxury vehicle. Sure makes the interior look like crap.
