Our car has been throwing a low boost code. We replaced the dv valve, pcv was just replaced but code still comes up. It's been making this noise that has arised with the code. It will do it down hill from 1500 to 2400. Just a constant rattle.
What do we do from here? Fix rod? New wastegate? New turbo?

Last year my wife and I purchased a 2011 certified pre-owned tiguan from a local VW dealership which will stay anonymous atm. This past weekend we were driving home and noticed a rattle coming from the engine upon acceleration or around 2k-3k. The EPC light and check engine light both flash one time whenever this happens but never stay on. I scanned the car and found a pending p0341.
I know about the timing tensioner so I waited until the car cooled completely and went outside about 1am and started the car, sure enough it made the star-up rattle.
We took it back to the dealer and they diagnosed it with a failed timing chain and camshaft and are going to replace the components. I'm guessing by failed timing chain they mean the tensioner.
I was driving the wifes 12 Tiguan SEL 4mo the other day and noticed that on accel it makes some odd noise, almost a tinny boost leak noise, it seems to accel just fine but at certain rpm's it makes this weird noise, its not a normal turbo boost noise i hear that as well. Maybe this noise is completely normal or maybe it isn't?
View 10 RepliesMy Tig starts to make squeaking rattle noises while driving. It sounds coming from the steering wheel or that somewhere in that area and the noise is like rubbing plastic parts. It happens when the car comes across even small cracks on the road. So it is rattling all the time. It's really annoying. I think it is plastic parts that are lose making the noises.

I have a SEL w/auto and I hear a metal rattle noise under light acceleration when it shifts from 6th to 5th, 5th to 4th and usually between 1500 to 2000 RPM. I took it into vw to check and a couple guys drove it and said everything is in normal operating condition. It only has 1700 miles and it has made the noise since I picked it up. I had a GTI before this so I am familiar with the engine but I had a manual.
View 1 RepliesI currently have the P0299 code for underboosting. I am pretty certain that i need to replace my wastegate actuator because i can hear it rattling on deceleration.
My plans are to replace it at the same time I replace the timing belt since it would be a decent opportunity to remove the turbo to change the WG actuator. However, I still can't figure something out. When I am starting to accelerate from a stop in 1st gear (and only 1st gear), there is a loud screech, lasting only a second, coupled at the same time by a quick and noticeable loss of power; as if boost was released. I typically shift out of 1st within 2500-3700ish rpm, if that makes any difference.
From what I have researched, this sounds like the turbine making contact with the housing. I may be wrong, but that does not add up to me because I am only experiencing this problem in 1st gear. We are talking about a 2003 B5.5, Engine Code AWM. No mods, 100% stock.
Noticed a brief hissing sound when accelerating firmly? Doesn't seem to be coming from the engine compartment, maybe from under the dash, it is very brief, a couple of seconds tops and sounds a bit like pressurizing a container just before the valve closes. Not an issue, not even a nuisance, but I am curious about it.
View 2 RepliesOk, I just bought this car a month ago, and I get this code coming up intermittently. I reset the code, and it will come back after driving a while. 2002 passat 1.8t 5 speed. It seems like it comes back when I roll backwards a little bit (like from a standing start on an incline) right before taking off. Could this be a leaky throttle body to inter cooler hose? Seems like the engine might move more while taking off from a backwards rolling start due to the torque. Also, I hear a lot of noise while on boost coming from the drivers front corner of the car, although it doesn't throw a code while on boost.
View 5 RepliesI have a 02 Jetta TDI with 186k miles. Couple weeks ago it all of a sudden started making boost noise when I was driving to work and then on the way back I was getting almost no power. Like over boost and under boost issue, so I assumed it was the MAP sensor. I got busy next couple weeks and then tried to start the car but now the car is not starting.
Completely charged the battery so its not the battery. Looked online and it seemed like it could be the 109 relay for the fuel pump. I pulled the back seat off and I can't hear the fuel pump prime up. I got a new relay from auto zone and put it in, still same thing. I don't want to have to replace the fuel pump only to find out its not the fuel pump. I ran the code and I'm getting the P1556 code (charge pressure control negative deviation).
I lost boost, went from being chipped at 16psi to 7-8 with a check engine code and a high pitch noise. Now is the secondary air pump connected to the turbo in any way. It just happened and I'm working on getting the code read. Just curious if my pump is just bad, what im figuring.

View 5 RepliesSo I recently swapped my 2.8l 12v vr6 for the same engine because mine blew up, everything went good and the car runs great but there is a faint kind of rattling sound coming from the top of my motor, when its idling it will be a constant faint rattle. It gets worse as i accelerate between 3 to 4.5 rpms but then stops making the noise when i really start cooking so Idk if I just can't hear it or what. I've tried looking it up but i can't seem to find a video that has the same problems as my car. My father told me it could be my rockers or valves and others have told me it could be my timing chain or guides. I would love to just take it to vw to get it diagnosed but I don't have the money. I will try and upload a video of the sound ....
View 7 RepliesSo I recently lower my car and my 3" exhaust started a constant rattle when I'm in the car. When I get out it stops. Been lowered for a week or so now and today was the first time that happened. I've read up and seen its pretty common when we go lower. Also some ways to possibly fix it.
View 16 RepliesI have a 2006 f150 with the 5.4 with 150k miles and I thought it was originally an exhaust leak so had that checked then thought maybe the cats went back and had that checked and after that read up on all the IWE threads and decided to replace them. Replaced them and the actuator and the problem seems worse. Now the noise is constant will accelerating. It use to be intermittent but now it's all the time unless in 4wd or coasting. What the problem could be? I know the truck is 10 years old but in great condition, everyone is surprised it's as old as it is.

View 2 RepliesI recently installed a boost gauge on my 2010 Tiguan (Auto, 4 Motion) and was rather surprised by the readings when driving on the freeway.
At around 65-70 MPH on a flat surface, the manifold pressure is just about 0 (range of 1in Hg - 1psi) all the time. I am used to my 1.8t thats runs 10 in hg vacuum at highway speeds. I just find it a little odd that the turbo is working hard enough to relieve the intake of all vacuum, and sometimes even boost while driving with hardly any engine load.
My gauge reads 20 vacuum at idle and 15-18lbs max boost with apr software. What readings does every else here see? Any difference between auto and manual?
Wife has a 2013 V and I bought a 2007 with 200000k on the clock. Got a good deal on the car and knew I would have some issues so here is what I am battling. CEL came on and throwing code P1116. We all know the generic code saying engine coolant temp sensor, cooling sensor clogged, etc. this is the only code on the reader. I checked the coolant level and everything is within standards. No leaks appear from the lines. I believe the carfax shows a fender bender so maybe the CHS tank sensor didn't get replaced? So, I guess what I am asking is:
Should I buy a MINi VCI to locate the problem (I plan on getting one eventually just wanted to save money isolating the problem now)? ECU problem? I have read previous post with bad ECUs throwing P1116 but these post were 2+ years. Sometimes it sounds like there might be gurgling from the dash...I say sometimes lightly because it is very faint but have also read older post stating air could throw the p1116 code so maybe a coolant flush?
Also, big question: is the engine coolant temp sensor identical to the CHS tank sensor? The local parts store couldn't find a CHS tank sensor part number just the engine so didn't know if they were the same.
I have an 04 GLI and keeps throwing a code for the 02 sensor, and after putting the car on the lift, and disconnecting the 02 sensor harness, a fine oil leaks out at the end of the connector and smells and looks like power steering fluid.
View 9 RepliesI am stage 1 tuned and just have simple bolt ons. About a year and a half ago i had my CEL come on and it was P2400. I was still under warranty and took it into the dealer. They ran through the whole eval system along with replace my evap pump and the CEL was still on. Well then they replaced the ECU and all was fixed. that following fall i took it to APR to get ref lashed and all was well. Until 2 weeks ago. The CEL is back on throwing the same code. I believe its the ECU again and I'm waiting to get into APR to have them fix whatever it is. They believe its evap but I'm not convinced.
View 2 RepliesWent to see a movie, Vehicle was running fine. Then, on the drive home I noticed there was no turbo boost at all. Was a struggle trying to pass someone going 10km faster than me. Got home, Reverse the Vehicle into my parking spot then the engine died. Car wont start now. Sounds and feels like the fuel pump went, turns over, a mere whisper of the engine trying to get going, but never does. Plugged it in, getting misfire codes. Checked the Diverter valve and seems to be fine, checking the front PVC Valve tomorrow. Its just really strange how the turbo wasn't functioning at all, but the vehicle ran all the way home, Then died when i backed it in my spot. and now wont start. Its throwing me off, All i can think of is Coil Packs, spark plugs, Diverter Valve, PVC valve. 2010 Tiguan 2.0t.....
View 6 RepliesNothing is more annoying to me than constant rattles and noises in a vehicle. My 2012 Limited Elantra makes a couple of noises that are really annoying. The first is a constant light rattle the seems to come from the dome light area or the sunroof. I haven't been able to pinpoint it, but it drives me nuts. The other noise comes from the back doors area, or maybe the pillars. It happens on both sides, but mostly on the drivers side, and it only happens when the car goes over certain bumps, or when I take a curve a certain way. It almost sounds like a cracking noise. I've heard of glove compartment rattles, but that doesn't seem to happen with my car.
