I have a 2002 f350 that I have changed relays, control unit, checked fuses with no change. The hazards work normally. I'm ready to drive it off a cliff. I was told that it could be a bad ground. But no one can tell me where the ground may be. I have looked at the wire run from back to front with no problems found.
View 1 RepliesI can't find any info about this "always on" reverse light issue. My searches show that most people with the problem only have it when they put it in to revers. Mine's broken but the light is on all of the time indicating it's not working.
I can go through the sensors, but I think the system only recognizes sensor failures when the car is in reverse. What's my first/next step?
Is it possible to turn off the backup sensors on my X ?
When I am towing these things drive me nuts!
Just started doing this. Sometimes I can get them to turn on in I hit the button enough. Switch going bad?
View 12 RepliesMy Excursion had a mangled rear bumper when I bought it recently. I just bought a salvage one to replace it. I had it installed today. I want to salvage the backup sensors in the old bumper along with the license plate lights. How do these come out? They seem locked in there to me.
View 3 RepliesOk, so it seems I have 3 bad backup sensors on the 2002 Ex. Background information for those considering a repair:
I put the Ex in reverse, key in run and can hear "fast ticking" from only one sensor. Sensor removal is easy (at lease on the two outside sensors). Two tabs on the black housing in the bumper hold the cylindrical sensor in place. Release the two tabs and work the sensor out. I haven't tried to remove the bad inside sensor yet as there is a lot less room to work there.
Once removed, a single tab on the wiring harness connector holds the sensor in place.
Here is the problem I have. I can't get the sensor to LOCK back into the connector. I have backed the connector against the bumper and pushed on the sensor with all my strength and I cannot get it to lock back into the single tab on the connector.
Is there a trick I am missing? I am ready to try vice grips but I fear I will damage the connector.
I'd really like to add these to The Beast, but don't want to drill through chrome. My bumper has some plastic running along the top (see pic). Just looking for info for the same bumper mounted the sensors there with success.
View 9 RepliesMy back up alarm hasn't been working all the time. I checked for the clicking sound when it wasn't working & could hear the clicking. The light is on all the time when its acting up. Is there a control box somewhere?
View 9 RepliesThe backup alarm sounds when I put the truck in reverse when there is nothing behind me. I found posts about people not getting any sound at all but none like mine. I'm guessing I have at least bad sensor that 'thinks' there's something in the way when there isn't.
View 5 RepliesI have the backup sensor system, and occasionally turn it off with the dash switch when backing up a boat trailer. Never had to manually turn it back ON, because it is supposed to default to the ON position during startup.
Twice this week, after starting the vehicle, the OFF light stayed on the next day, and the system did not default to the ON position. (nearly backed the truck through the garage wall cause the damned thing didnt beep when it was supposed to!)
Works fine today, so problem seems intermittent...
Last night I backed my truck up to allow another family member to leave, and the back-up sensor alarm started beeping, like it does when the tail-gate is down and backing up.
The truck had not been driven on Christmas day, but it had rained and snowed lightly (dusting), then the temp dropped to 20 degrees.
Can a light dusting/ice cause the sensor to react the same as a close object. I think it does, just trying to confirm.

View 19 RepliesI would like to add a second backup camera to my 2016 F-350 Super Duty to assist when hooking up to my fifth wheel. It is a Crew Cab with the Factory Tonneau Cover so my view of the hitch is blocked. I would like to add the third brake light high mount camera and be able to toggle between my OEM/Tailgate Camera and the High Mount. I have found a couple that claim they will work but both require tapping into the main connector on the back of the display, but not quite sure how to open it up. Accessing the connector is not a problem, just getting it apart without breaking it is the question. The "Lockpick" system has not been tested/certified for the 2016 model.
View 3 RepliesI own the above described vehicle; I'm at about 196k and I'm the original owner. It's a quad cab, 2002 7.3L with power everything. I believe it's the XLT package (it's not in front of me... I'm at work. CONFIRMED... XLT package).
Currently, it's the workhorse and back-up for the family, not my primary driver - luckily. I've had failure if the automatic door lock on the rear pass. door, and a sticky lock on the rear driver's side lock - they've both been in this state for at least the last four years, no problems beyond the hassle of manual manipulation of the door lock from the inside - otherwise no electrical issues really to speak of.
Three weeks ago, we went to the snow. I rarely use the 4x4, but found that I had to use it that day to get out of some mud - it worked fine, no issues. In addition, I also used the cruise control... something I do rarely, but have not had any issue with it either.
In exiting the area some hours later at the end of our day, I noted two things... the "door ajar" dash light was illuminated and did not shut off through the drive home, and the dome light remained on until the battery saver shutdown shut it down... quite some time (where normally a key in the column turned past the insertion would shut it off).
When I drove home I used the cruise control, as mentioned, and it worked fine.
In exiting the vehicle while at home, as soon as the door was opened the horn started blaring panic alarm style - honk, honk, honk, honk... - and when the batteries are attached, there is nothing that stops the honking, except the battery saver timeout. BTW... no key in the ignition.
I don't use the FOBs... the batteries were dead anyhow (and I moved the FOBs out of range of the vehicle).
Attempted fixes:
- Lubing the lock/WD-40, then shutting/opening the doors (no luck/no change).
- Pulling door panels, removing locking mechanism, removing door ajar switches (I don't know what they're called), manually manipulating the piston AND checking each with a multimeter. (NOTE: One "seemed" not to work properly, so I purchased one from dealer and placed it back... still, no luck resolving the issues overall).
-Checked the wiring looms supplying all four doors - no broken wires noted.
- Replaced the two vehicle batteries.
I'm at a loss and I'm hitting up this forum before I move forward...
I've read that there are issues with the VSM for this year's model, but I'm hesitant to purchase the module without further feedback from a tech. I've read some general posts about alarm systems (doesn't apply to me) and horn issues (but those were horn constantly blaring... not the intermittent horn blasts of a "panic alarm sounding."
I've heard that the GEM and clockspring could be an issue, but I have to look more closely at the associated problems (like recheck to see if the cruise works... door windows go up/down like some threads have mentioned...). I have also read that the door ajar sensor switches attached to the automatic locks could be culprit, as they may "work" when pulled out, but not work when they're installed in the vehicle.
Ultimately, what the cause to the panic horn beeping, dome light and door ajar instrument indicator being on.
Parking assist & sensors for back is working and show alert in screen but no sound alarm. I need to get more information about the car i just buy it....
View 2 RepliesI have a leak somewhere in my car. There are no spots left from my parking stall, or any visible wet spots under the hood, but my car continuously looses fluid somewhere. It disappears fast enough that in a 10 minute drive it can go from full to the coolant light and alarm going off on the dash.
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 2002 F350 and so far, the only issue I've had with it is I can't find out why the ABS light is on. I've looked around and found that it's probably caused by the speed sensors. But this is where I run into issues. From what I've seen, a bad sensor will generally give a reading of 0 ohms, but none of mine do. The rear diff sensor gives me ~1800 ohms, which I believe is OK.
The front driver side reads about 700 which is I know is a little lower than it should be, and then my passenger side reads ~42 mega ohms. Both the front sensors kind of threw me off since what I've read says they should all read about 1200-2500 ohms. Any other things I should check or should I just go ahead and replace both front sensors? I've just looked around and have barely been able to find anything about the front sensors.
Just completed the rebuild on the front end of my 02 f350 and of course I had to take the abs sensors out, everything is good but now my abs light is on. Is there a method I can use or do i have to hook it up to scanner and erase the code.

View 1 RepliesMy 2002 f350 diesel recently started acting up, the first sign was when my park brake light came on and the chime came on. I mucked around with a few things but still wont go away, while I was doing this a buddy noticed i had no brake lights at all and under further inspection no signals either, not even the clicking noise you usually hear also the cruise control has stopped working as well as the little screen mounted to the roof near the rear view mirror. I am fairly clueless with electrics (I don't even own a multi meter) but i do want to figure this out, i have noticed that fuse 20 was burnt and after replacing it it pops pretty much right when i push my foot on the breaks or signal.
