2009 VW Jetta TDI... Both low beam/running headlights are not working. I tried to check the fuses but, according to my owners manual both left and right fuse slots are empty. I don't think both fuses fell out. Where the headlight fuses are supposed to be?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius 2 that has suddenly developed a problem with the headlights. The lights will function on high but will not work on low. Are they hid? I have checked the fuses and relay. Really at a loss here. Not really wanting to spend a fortune at the dealership.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 Camry. The low beam headlights stopped working last night. All the other lights work. High beam, driving lights, marker/park lights. I checked all the fuses. I changed the headlight relay. Still nothing. Could it be the headlight switch on the steering column? Trying to do more research before I replace it.
View 2 RepliesSearched the forums and found a similar problem for a Solara but not carolla. Have a 2009 Carolla s and the low beam headlights don't work. The high beams work, but when i dim them only the fog lights come on (if i have them enabled, which is how its set for my wife now). If i go to the parking lights mode the low beams will come on. Changed the bulbs and fuses are intact. I am wondering if it's a relay or the column switch. I have access to a multimeter, techstream, and have basic auto skills.
View 3 Replies2003 VW Jetta VR6: Headlights are not coming on...reliably, at least. Both halogen bulbs have been changed twice in the last 5 months. This is what I know of the headlight issue I'm having:
If the bright light indicator on my heads-up display is on when I start the car, I have no headlights. Switching between high and low beam in the car does not do anything when this bright indicator is stuck on...I have only found one fix...see number 2.
I get out of the car and tap on the front right headlight...the lights come on, but the front right is much brighter than the left. The lights are on the low-beam setting at this point. Only tapping the front light gets the lights to come on...high beams do work once I get the lights to turn on.
Once the lights are on, they do not reliably stay on...they might turn off while driving down the road. Pulling over and tapping on the front right light will get them to turn back on. (think this might be a loose wire issue? if so... i can't figure out where, or what needs to be done to fix it...)
Very odd thing... prior to starting the car, the bright light indicator is on...I pull up on emergency brake and it toggles the bright light indicator. I get out of the car and tap the light, lights are on, go back in the car and pull up on the emergency brake...the lights go out. Put the emergency brake down, the lights come back on.
I'm completely perplexed by this headlight issue.
So I have MFD display errors for "main beam not working" on both sides but both of my headlights, lows and highs both work fine. this has been like this for a few months now. I can clear the codes with my VAGCOM and after a day or two they come right back. I do have LED license plate lights but for at least a year i only got the error code on startup for the plate lights but never headlights. A little confused as to what is tripping the headlight codes
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 Buick LaCrosse. The low beam headlights have stopped working. I thought that maybe the bulbs needed changed (since I usually have to change them every 6 months) but after changing one with a brand new bulb, it still doesn't work. The "old" bulb looks ok. The fuses are also good (I checked them with a multimeter.) The only thing that I see in my shop manual is something about the ambient light sensor. If this has gone bad, would that cause the low beams to not work? The high beams work fine. The low beams will not work with the headlight switch in the "auto" or "on" position. I don't see any DRL relay or fuse in this car.
View 17 RepliesLow beams don't work. The fuses are fine (under the dash, and in the engine compartment) and the bulbs look good. The fact that both went out at the same time has me wondering. One post on this forum for something not related mentioned a headlight relay behind the fuse panel?
View 9 RepliesThe low beam headlights on my 2007 Pontiac Torrent have been working intermittently for several months. Sometimes they will automatically turn on like they are supposed to, other times they will not and I will try to manually turn them on- sometimes it works, other times I have to use the high beams. I had the lever replaced, but it did not fix the problem. My boyfriend tried to track down the problem and removed the fuse panel completely from the car, didn't see anything that stood out, so he put the right back. After he put it back, the car would not start.
The radio works, the interior lights work, but when you try to turn it over nothing happens. At all. I towed it to the mechanic a week ago on Monday and they said that it smelled like burnt electrical under the hood, but could not pinpoint the problem. They have now had my car for a week and the latest update they have given me was the car will not communicate with their testing equipment, so they think it is the computer, but they are not sure. They said that they are trying to find a replacement computer.
Does this sound like a computer problem? And if so, should it have taken them an entire week to try to diagnose? I am trying to be patient, but it feels like a week is a long time to have a car in the shop and I am still without a definite diagnosis or any estimation on how much it is going to cost to fix my car. Should I try to take it somewhere else?
Both low beams of my 2004 Odyssey headlights stopped working today. Both high beams are still working. From what I read and observe, the same bulbs serve both high and low beams on 2004 Odyssey. In other words, there are no separate low- and high-beam bulbs. What the problem might be? And is it fairly easy to fix myself?

View 14 RepliesI just bought a 2004 f-250 checked everything out except for the headlights ... when I tried them the didn't work except on flash to pass ... I searched around and found some possible solutions and tried them .... first I checked the bulbs and all the fuss they are good then I bought a headlight switch ....that fixed the problem for about two days then they quit working again... so I took it back and got a new one ... when I first put it the new one in it didn't work then it started working a day or so later and I hadn't done anything to make it work... then a couple days later it went out again ... I have swapped the switch out several times and have had no luck I replaced the multi function switch and still no low beams ...
All the fuses are still good I have checked the wiring visually as much as I can see and see nothing... buddy of mine checked the pins on the headlight switch connector they are all good .. Read something last night about a guy whos alternator was going bad and caused his not to work checked mine its putting out around 13.4 at idle .. is there a relay somewhere ... my book doesn't show the function of any of the relays so I don't know ...not a mechanic but a pretty decent parts changer. Trying to fix this myself . Next week have to take the truck to pull the camper ..
My car is fully stock, with all options available to me (cold weather package not available here). The low-beam triple-LED headlights are aimed way too low compared to all my previous cars, and where they should be. BUT high-beam is aimed properly. So if I adjust the low-beams up, my high-beams might end up lighting up the trees, not the road.
If adjust the headlights up on a fully stock car (not lowered at the front)? Are the high beams still lighting up the road fine? And if you can be specific as the number of turns on the screwdriver, it'd be good too to have an initial adjustment reference.
I have a 2010 f150 super crew, last night when leaving my baseball game I was shocked to find my running lights and my regular beam lights don't work. My high beams work fine but nothing else. I'm pretty sure the lights are an after market light, but I'm not positive since I purchased it used. I looked in manual to check for a fuse issue but I don't see anything regarding the headlights.
View 1 RepliesI have a 1998 Volkswagen GL. The car runs for 15-18 minutes at a time very smoothly and then it is like someone takes the key out of the ignition. It just dies for about 10-20 minutes then it will start back up again. I have used the diagnostic on my car and gotten rid of all codes, but one. The one code that I cannot get rid of is 1426. I also cannot find out what that code means other then just a general error message. What could be causing the car to be shutting down like that?
View 4 RepliesI'm considering a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T with 135,000 miles that the owner is selling for $1,000.00 because it is "starts and runs but it's difficult get it accelerated and it's just running rough ". I haven't yet looked at the car or pulled the codes, but before I do, is there a common point of failure on these cars that leads to the symptoms described?
If it is something such as a crankshaft position sensor, then I could potentially have a good car for a lot less than the book value. If it's something such as the timing having jumped a tooth, then that's probably not something that I want to mess with.
I have 2000 golf with a gli front end. Recently just did the swap and now I'm having issues with one blinker and one high beam not working. The running lights work on both sides. The headlights work on both sides. I checked the bulbs and they were good. I check for power it was all good. I checked the fuses and they were fine.
View 7 Replies I drive (or more recently used to drive) a 2002 VW Jetta which has been having extreme difficulty running correctly during moist weather. Initially, upon start-up, I will note a severe problem.... it seems as if it's shaky, very shaky, and does not want to move. Upon trying to move it ignoring it's obvious signs, it does not want to take when I push in the gas....seeming to jerk or move incredibly slow. Usually feeling as if I can barely get it to move a 10 yards or so before being too nervous to push it any further. These issues seem to exist far far far more frequently in wet or moist weather (even a day or 2 after it has rained).
The car has always been well taken care of. What are the possible causes, then I might have some better luck requesting services upon calling mechanics around the area.... I am currently in college, away from home, and I absolutely cannot afford to get "nickle-and-dimed" by the dealership over every possible minor detail which could POSSIBLY need some tuning-up. It currently has just over 100,000 miles and has never had any major replacements.
Driving home the other day my right turn signal stopped working. Checked all lights when I got home and the front signal had a constant but low illumination and all the other lights were mostly out as well, very little was working actually.
Pulled the bumper and head lamp tonight. The plastic connector on the low beam was melted and the wires were burnt. The problem was the two brown wires that are sort of routed together. Third wire (grey or another shade of brown depending on headlight manufacturer) was OK.
Headlights are aftermarket, Volx Tuning, < 1 yr old. The rest of the harness inside the assembly looks good- certainly don't see any opportunities for a short.
I replaced the connector and bad section of wire and plugged it back in for a test. All lights were then 100% operational. I removed the assembly to find that the same lamp was smoking again. (I sort of expected this, but had to try.)
Clearly I've got a short somewhere but where do I start? The part of the vehicle's wiring harness that is visible behind the assembly is in good condition. The lamp itself (H7 I believe?) appears OK as well, I don't guess I get so so lucky as to hear those can develop an internal short in the base or something?
I just purchased an 86 turbo diesel jetta. The low beams aren't working. First of all, I must admit, how to turn them on. Second, the problem is probably not the bulbs, since the bulbs seam fine. I would like to try and fix this myself.
View 3 RepliesMy driver side low beam is not working. I checked the bulb and it's fine. I also checked the fuse and it's fine. Took it to the dealer and they said could be a few hours of labour to determine where the problem is in the wiring.
