I have a 1994 sc400 which dies when decelerating(but not all the time). The IAC valve, fuel tank, pump, filter, battery, wiring, altenator are all new. The computer has been rebuilt and rechecked(solved the problem for 2 weeks), throttle body cleaned?

View 13 RepliesI have a 1994 Dodge Spirit, with 142k miles on it. Twice in recent months it has has unexplained stalling fits. In December, it would stall whenever I came to a stop. I took it into the shop, but they couldn't replicate it and couldn't find anything wrong. Yesterday, it stalled while I was driving, and would then immediately stall when I restarted the car. The shop managed to replicate the stalling once, but after a two hour inspection still couldn't find out what was wrong; they checked the vacuums.
View 7 RepliesSo, my 94 Volvo 940 has about 315k miles on it and everything works great except during the intense heat of the summer. It drives fine for about an hour or two, but anything north of two hours with temps in the high 80s will cause the car to eventually stall - usually the engine just sounds like it's misfiring for a few seconds, then I lay on the gas to find that there's no acceleration and pull over where it will eventually shut down. I let it cool down for about 15 minutes, then it will start fine and drive for a little while before stalling again. It seems that the longer I let it cool down, the more time I get out of it.
I've tried replacing the fuel relay and noise suppression relay. I always just guessed it was the noise suppression relay because it is located right next to the engine, and I just thought the soldering would melt when it gets too hot, then come back together after cooling. But, maybe this is totally off. I also replaced the mass air flow sensor before, but it had slightly different symptoms, and those have not come back. My problem now only happens on longer drives in the summer.
The problem began with intermittent stalling and now the Jeep will not start at all (no spark). I have had the cap, rotor, primary ignition coil, crank sensor, cam position sensor and PCM replaced without any luck. The repair bills have been brutal. The garage has given up.

View 2 RepliesI have a 94 Cobra Mustang with a 5.0. For the past few months it has had an erratic Idle and stalls when trying to idle. I've had a number of suggestions on how to fix it and nothings seems to work. I checked for vacuum leaks, changed PCV, new plugs, new IAC valve, tested ICM and throttle TPS and even adjusted idle. Still no luck.

View 1 RepliesI recently got a 2wd 1994 150 straight 6 4.9L, It's been a great truck so far. It drove from New Mexico to California with no issues. Just this morning it started stalling and dying when pulling up to stop lights and putting it in reverse. The truck has 172,000 miles and has a new serp belt, alternator, radiator, and starter. It seems to run just fine on the highway and once it's warmed up it doesn't stall as easily. There is an exaust leak.

I started to have a slightly rough idle a while back, but not severe. I figured she was just aging a bit.
Changed plugs. Check engine light came on. Changed plug wires. Then I had a couple of episodes where it started to lose power and idle really rough (stalling). Both times it stopped after a few minutes. Had code read- they said it was coils. Replaced ignition coils. Check engine light still on, but it went a few weeks without power loss.
Tonight the loss of power returned and didn't leave, and I had a glowing red catalytic converter after I limped home 20 miles (hope I didn't do any serious damage, I was stranded.)

So, I'm probably dealing with a misfire, and I'm sure I torched my cat after tonight. So any other easy diagnose/fixes for a misfire? I'm a shade tree mechanic- so I know just enough to get myself in trouble. If I can't get a resolution soon it will be off to the mechanic (which, maybe I should have done 1st...)
I'm getting a vibration through the floorboards when I take my foot off the gas at high speeds. It has a low-pitched (like a subwoofer) hum to it. It's amplified when I go over dips and the suspension compresses, but doesn't exist when the car is in neutral.
(2009 LS, AWD, 120k miles, stock tires/wheels)
Has any ls600 owner noticed a small vibration/shudder when they decelerate (without braking) on the highway ? It may be only a hybrid issue even during normal operation as the electric engine are recharging the battery.
View 14 RepliesI have a 94 buick lesabre custom that is stalling intermittently and runs rough intermittently. We have had it for diagnostics and it could not read the codes. We changed the computer and it still can't read the codes. The diagnostic tool says it cannot connect when it is plugged in or it displays white flecks like snow flakes on the tool screen. It is an OBDII. The pin structure of the data connector port is two pins top row and bottom row two pins some blanks and one pin. We don't know how to fix it with no diagnostic codes and we don't know what to do to get the codes because we have changed the computer.
View 8 RepliesHow to diagnose the engine issue I am having. The gx currently has 96k miles and I am planning on doing a timing belt and water pump replacement as I plan on keeping it as long as possible.
One new issue that crept up is that when going down the hill the car engine sounds like it's actually accelerating and the RPM drops to as if it was idling.
Normally when going down the hill it usually stays around 1 or 2 on the rpm, it's noticeably different and just started happening recently. What might be the cause of this?
I have just purchased a brand new LX570.
I can only explain that the vehicle vibrates. Whether driving, accelerating or decelerating there is a constant vibration just like driving on a poor road surface. We have superbly flat and new Roads in Dubai, and I drive them every day in my 2 other (far less expensive) 4WD's and I do not feel shaken, stirred or positively nauseous. The only time u feel at ease in my new Lexus is when I am stationary. Transmission also occasionally lags and I can feel the gear changes, sometimes a judder and a bit of a jump as it searches for the gear. Take off is sluggish (i know it's a big car!) but I feel it's not good enough for the car that it is supposed to be.
This is my first Lexus. I opted for the full top of the range with s few extra options and a big spend. This is certainly not the car I was expecting and it is definitely not the Lexus experience that I thought that I would get. What is the problem with vibration? The whole body shakes ( not the steering wheel) albeit mildly, it vibrates almost constantly. it is simply not a smooth drive.
The Lexus service centre has changed all the tyres at 100 km claiming flat spots due to transit and storage. The car now has 300 km on the clock. It's not the tyres or the alignment. They claim to have run full diagnostics but found nothing. I can't believe that his issue is on my car only. I have taken 2 other drivers out and they agree with my concerns, something is definitely wrong.
Ever since installing my Joe Z axle back exhaust.I get a popping sound when coming to a stop, especially if decelerating harder. I know this type of thing happens to bikes when you don't get them tuned after but I haven't read anything about Tuning the Lex. Is this normal? Are other guys with the aftermarket exhaust and intake having this same sound at times?

View 8 RepliesIn an earlier thread, I talked about my roof stalling at the end of an opening or a closing operation. I just returned from a 260 mile round trip to the Lexus dealer to address this problem and get some other maintenance done..
To recap the problem, the roof appears to complete the opening or closing operation but won't finish it by turning off the red light on the switch. The switch then won't respond to either open or close. The roof stalls. It does this about 1 in every 10 or 12 open/close cycles.
Of course, if you drive the car with the red light still lit, you're treated to a chime when you go over about 5 MPH. Also, your trunk is locked.
I repeatedly re-try the switch of course, but without success. I eventually restart the car. Either the switch recovers or restarting does the trick, because so far I've been able to get the switch to work again. I would assume the stall will eventually stop being intermittent.
So, I talked with the Lexus service tech and he said he is very familiar with the SC roof. After hearing the symptoms, he quickly diagnosed a failing proximity switch. He was confident they could diagnose the problem.
So, I was due for the timing belt replacement and decided I'd have Lexus address both issues.
As I suspected, they need to catch the roof stalling to diagnose it. And guess what: They could not get the roof to stall. When the tech called to say my car was ready, I was disappointed my roof could not be fixed. The tech really did not know much about the proximity switches, like how many are in the roof. When I asked, he said replacing them all would be expensive and they did not believe one switch could be identified as the culprit from the description of symptoms.
So, here I am back 130 miles from the dealer with a tricky roof. I am thinking I will find out whether any local mechanic (Toyota or an independent) can find and fix the bad switch when it does fail.
Fortunately for the rest of you, the tech says this is not a common problem. I am aware of the manual operations to raise the roof, but really hope I don't have to go there!
My boyfriend ( a mechanic) has a 94 Lexus car for me to use how ever it has problems. It has rear brakes locking( they were changed) and the car freezes won't move in anyway. Every time when it's driven 3-4 miles it freezes steering locks in place won't move. What can be done?
