Chickenpox :: Headaches, Sweating And Itch

Apr 28, 2010

i'm 26 years old, and i was lucky enough to get chicken pox last friday ( today is wednesday). two days before the spots appeared i felt unwell- thought i'm going down with a cold. temperature, sweating at night and a sore throat, plus i felt pretty cold most of the time. i saw a little spot on my chest - but thought it was a bite. as it came out later - that was the MOTHER SPOT- which usually appears 2 days before the rest of the 'soldiers'. friday morning i woke up feeling pretty perky- as i was going to my best friends wedding (where i was supposed to be the bridesmaid). i have decided to have a long bubbly bath- where i have discovered more of the nasty spots- they were quite small red marks. still not knowing what is happening i just thought that i will look silly in my dress with all those 'bites'. one hour later i have realized what was happening. within 1 hour i was on the phone with the doc ( they didn't want me to see the GP). he prescribed me Aciclovir tablets, and i had to get some white liquid. got to the shop and stocked up on food for at least one week. the night was a nightmare - sweating, itching and i even saw fairies!!! i also had a really bad headache and my ribs hurt like hell!! i was up every 4 hours to get my pills and cover my spots with the liquid. day two- had about 60 of them and was dreading that the army will grow in numbers. but i was wrong! day two- i still felt a bit funny but was occupied with flicking the channels on tv and just feeling sorry for myself. the spots that i have attacked with white liquid were already disappearing, and there were only 7 vulcanic once which gave me the itch. today is day six- and all i can see is 1 big spot- its still the same MOTHER one- but it is getting smaller and smaller by the hour. i guess i had a very mild case- seeing all those nasty pics on the net and reading other people's experiences really freaked me out - but i was lucky!. the most annoying ones were the ones in my hair, and i was also hosting two in my mouth. but they are all gone now!

Lichen Sclerosus :: Itch, Sweating And Exercise

I was feeling better thinking I had calmed my LS down, and I  was hoping the calm period would last until my app't with the specialist next month. I had been so raw from front to back that I stopped using the Clob and started cream for yeast infection.  I thought it could be one of those two things since I kept getting worse.  I continued using the emu oil.  Anyway it felt much better until today.  Maybe it was a dumb thing to do ,but I did some yoga on the floor with my granddaughter.  When I felt pulling I just readjusted myself. Later today, I did garden work.  I hadn't done any physical activity for 6 or 7 weeks so I really over did it I guess. Tonight, I see raw areas that have come back and there is some itching . Could it be getting hot made it worse, along with the activity?  Will I ever be able to exercise without it hurting ? The exercise doesn't bother that much , but I really like working in the garden.  But it gets very hot here, today it was 88...  last week in the 90's. I know sweat makes LS worse.

Chickenpox - How To Reduce Itch And Spread?

I'm currently suffering from chickenpox. I am 19 years old, living in a tropical country. I worked with kids, and I noticed this wound thing a few days ago. I had a bad case of acne growing up, but my face was clearing up so I popped. It would scab and itch for the whole day and all.

THE SITUATION

basically, I was diagnosed with chickenpox. I'm a little of a workaholic, so this was really devastating. That, and my dad is 51 and my mom is 46. As far as I know, both cannot recall if they have chicken pox. We lived in a pretty small house, and it was hard to avoid them. But I did it anyway.

So anyway, I had a bad case of chickenpox. It was easy to resist scratching bc nothing itched. Except for that damned pox on my face. It itches really badly, like my whole face is filled with scab and redness and it was horrifying and painful to look at. Because I didn't have the best hygiene growing up and I'm starting to take better care of my skin.

So anyway this should be day 3. I really don't know how the chicken pox days work, but today would either be day 3 or 4. Blisters spread everywhere - but it was somewhat slow. And anyway, my back is starting to itch a lot from all the chicken pox. I read online that when itching gets bad, you should use oatmeal bath, and ketamine. I would want to get the lotion, but I can't walk out looking like this. So I would get my mom/my sis. While my sister is generally supportive, and my dad listened to me - he didn't come near me and stuff. My mom on the other hand, was constantly butting heads with me over the best way to treat chickenpox. she told me to endure the itching ( which had kept me up for 2 nights ) and even told me that chicken pox wasn't that big of a deal. one of the nights, what felt like my nymph nodes were swollen and I had a fever. I wear specs and every time I wore specs, that pox under my eye would burn and sear in pain. It was really painful, and to think that I thought I had a minor case.

QUESTIONS

sorry for boring you with my long story and all, i also lastly have some questions.

- To soothe the itchiness on my face, I first decided to wash my face every 30-40 minutes. It stung, but the scabbing got a lot better. When I first took a shower, I decided to spam baby powder all my body, including that open sore. I felt less dirty, and it was easier to sleep. but I took a shower just now and the pox under my eye had grown to this grotesque size (it was smaller than when I did nothing with it and it was all scanning and all) . It doesn't itch, doesn't hurt. But I saw there was a bit of liquid coming out. Is it infected, or am I overreacting? Also, if it is infected, are there any home remedies to get rid of the swelling?

- as I said, I've read that talcum/baby powder has drying effect and helps to reduce itching. While that is true, I still itch. Doesn't matter how much I apply on myself, it itches or stings? It really affects my sleep because even though it is bearable that I don't scratch myself every 5 seconds, it is bad enough that I end up twitching in my sleep and waking up.

- other than that, can chicken pox spread through toys and all? Do I have to disinfect them? I know this is very childish of me, but I have a lot of toys on my bed that I sleep with. I'm not sleeping with my favorite one, but do I have to disinfect everything or does the virus die without a human host?

- lastly, my sister sleeps in the same room as me. She's adamant about not leaving the room, so she sleeps above me. I don't cough, I don't sneeze and we make no physical contact. Can the virus still be spread that way? Similar to my mother and my father as well, I hardly talk to my father anymore and when he is in the room, i talk through a blanket. Can the virus spread that way, or will it die? Similarly with my mom, my mom looks after my meals and all and she washes it. What are her chances of getting chickenpox? My dad is 51, my mother is 46, my sister is 17. They are all coughing and all, but they insist that they don't have any pox. I think my dad is vaccinated in the army but none of them know for sure. I am worried bc I have read about all kinds of complications when chickenpox hits adults, and I just want to make sure I don't end up spreading chicken pox to my parents.

Solar / Cholinergic Urticaria :: Can't Bear Sun For 10 Minutes - Skin Itch And Headaches

I am a 17 year old girl and overall healthy.  I have always had fairly sensitive skin but lately I cannot be in direct sunlight for even 10 minutes without all of my exposed skin turning dark red and getting extremely itchy.  Sometimes I will also get nauseous.  The weird part is that once I go indoors the symptoms will usually disappear within a couple hours.  I was researching online and I think it may be solar urticaria, and when researching it I am fairly certain I also have cholinergic urticaria which I used to get on my legs during/after sports practices. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what may be causing more specifically the sun problem and what to do about it, I have not changed shampoos or anything and don't take any medication.  Also, is there any underlying cause that could cause both that as well as some of or maybe all of the following symptoms, I was thinking possibly hypothyroidism (after reading it often affected the same people as urticaria) because it runs in the family but am not sure:-geographic tongue/benign migratory glossitis-blood on toilet paper (not from period)-constant mild headaches, bad headaches consistently-eyes sensitive to bright lights and light at all-hands hurt, arthritis-like symptoms and worse after writing/hand activity-back and neck aching for months, when I take a deep breath I can hear a squeaky-like sound and my back will often crack when I take a deep breath as well-tired (I have had trouble finishing my homework because I keep falling asleep too early and my grades have begun to drop because of that)-pins and needles ALL the time, I wrote my SAT today and there were probably 5 different times when my whole right leg went numb. Arms as well-I used to get head rushes where I couldn't see after standing up on occasion but they have begun to happen almost every time I stand up and it seems to take longer before I can see again-chest pain-ringing ears, not always, but quite often, at least  once every other day-I have gained weight over the last two years as well but I am not sure if it is a symptom of anything-I think I may have had a slight cold this last week but if not there's also stuffy/runny nose, feel like have to swallow a lot.

Menopause :: Migraine Headaches And Pressure Headaches

I've been having migraine headaches, pressure headaches, dizziness and nausea. I kept chalking it all up to menopause. Because as most of you know, so many of these symptoms are menopause.

Last Friday, Jan 2nd at around 7:30PM my boyfriend and I were leaving a restaurant, suddenly I started getting shocks in my right leg like my leg was falling asleep, while I was walking to the car. This shocking feeling quickly radiated up my arm and into my head, all on the right side. My boyfriend quickly started toward the hospital. On the way I lost the ability to formulate sentences and words. I would say one sentence and a totally different sentence would come out. I would try to say one word and a totally different word came out. Being a former medic the only word I wanted to relay was "stroke". It felt like someone had tasted my right side. It was the most frightening thing I'd ever experienced and I was awake for the entire ride. After getting to the hospital I was in the ER for about 3 hours. Then sent to Neurology/Stroke ward. For the next few days I had a battery of MRI's, EEG, EKG's, CT Scans, Blood Work, Ultrasounds and a Spinal (Lumbar Punch). Within 6 or so hours I was able to formulate sentences and say words again. I forced myself the entire time. My right side started getting feeling back within a few days. I still have some numbness in my right hand and am experiencing peripheral neuropathy symptoms in my right leg and foot.

The neurologist found a mass in my brain. Thanks be to God that it is benign. I just found out yesterday that I am cancer free. However, they still don't know what the mass is. It could be a tumor or a jelly bean I stuffed in my nose as a child. (joking) But we won't know for a while. Also it might be inoperable too. I will be seeing the Dr on the 13th for an MRI Rx. In a month we'll do the MRI and see what has happened with this mass. Is the edema gone, has it shrunk or grown? Things like that.

Hypothyroidism :: Hot Flashes And Sweating

I was diagnosed as hypothyroid 3 years ago. I currently take 100mcg of levothyroxine daily. My problem is frequent hot flashes and sweating. This has been happening since I've been taking levothyroxine. I initially thought it was menopause but hormone tests show I'm through this now and to be honest, the hot flashes feel different to menopause flushes. At least every hour I become extremely hot and start sweating badly. This can last for 10 mins to half hour. It continues through the night and wakes me frequently. It is ruining my life!

Duloxetine :: Sweating And Yawning Fits

Constant yawning fits. And feeling hyper. Anyway since being on duloxetine. My sex drive has gone. I have also been having light bleeding for 3 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this. Drs said its a coincidence. But iv never ever had bleeding for more than 5 days. I have stopped taking it for 2 days now. I'm feeling very tired. My back pain is coming back.

Stress / Anxiety :: Sweating / Choking

I have been struggling with anxiety for about eight months. I work a very stressful job (collections for a financial institution) and have tried to alleviate the stress by smoking/drinking more than I should. I know this just probably makes things worse, and I'm working on eliminating those habits.

At least three times a week I have had to change my clothes before going to work, because my anxiety is so high that I sweat completely through my clothes. I also go through bouts of coughing/choking just about every morning. I do not have much of an appetite. I often feel as though I am "out of my head."

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? Has anything helped? I'm not a fan of anti-depressants, but I would be interested in hearing what other people have done to fix these problems, as they are unbearable and have made functioning very difficult.

Skin :: Excessive Sweating And Lot Of Bad Smell

I suffer from an extreme sweat issue which means I sweat a lot! Like if I take a shower right now I'll be sweating in the next 5 mins! Not just sweat but also produce a very bad smell! I had a roommate before and I never saw this in her or anyone else and even when they sweat occasionally, their bodies don't make a bad smell! I tried everything from natural to cosmetic and nothing worked! Please tell me what should I do? Should I visit a dermatologist? If I do, will the treatment last a while and the results will be permanent or is it gonna be temporary and I'm gonna have to buy the treatment constantly?

Alcoholism :: Sweating All Day Long And Can't Tolerate Heat

I am a 42 yr. old female who started drinking at about 31 yrs. old. I started drinking the 5 litre boxes of wine and by 2 yrs. in I was drinking at least 2 of those boxes of wine a week. Present day I am drinking about 2 bottles of vodka a week for about 2 years now. I do not drink during the day. For awhile now I have had really bad night sweats and now I am sweating all day long and I can't tolerate heat. Would not drinking during the day cause this? Maybe menopause? I have had the basic blood work done recently and for my liver, all came back normal. Is my body trying to get rid of toxins?

Shingles :: Twice A Year With Sweating, Buring Calf And Rash

i suffer with bouts of shingles about twice a year. i have the usual, sweating, tiredness, swollen calves, familiar burning in my left calf, and then the rash, which gets infected by the 3rd day then slowly goes down within a week. they dry off and leaves a permanent reminder.

I'v always gone to my gp who have looked at it in the stages when its infected and told yes it is shingles, and was also told that i can get it when my immune system is low or if i'm very stressed!

Going to my gp today, i saw a locum who looked at it and said that it were'nt shingles, as shingles does'nt come up on your leg and is localised to your midriff!! So i asked what it could be, and he said he did'nt know!

He gave me the usual anti viral cream but refused to give me the anti viral tablets i've had before, just incase it harmed me!!!

I do not fall in the catergory of over 60, i dont have hiv/aids, im being checked for diabeties, im not on any treatment for cancer or anything, im waiting to get my hypaparathyroid out, could this be causing my shingles? I just dont know.

How can so many doctors tell me its shingles and 1 locum tell me its not because its in the wrong place, i've looked up shingles and it states shingle can be anywhere on your body. So what do i do??

Has anyone else had the same or similar?

Chickenpox :: Age 37

Ive just caught it off my two young daughters (who both still have it). I paid to have a private jab £125 to vaccinate me against chicken pox as soon as my girls developed it. Anyway, a week later i felt very tired, spent all of wednesday in bed, temperature of 37.9c, went work on thursday, hot and sweaty (thinking it was the jab), friday, got up feeling rough, covered in spots (jab was too late).

Id say i had about 1-2 thousand spots, my head was one red carpet. My body, back, arms, and tops of my legs are all covered, tho not as dense. My doctor gave me a sick note for two weeks (but thats only after i told him i didnt want to self cert). But thats all he gave me. No pills, lotion, nothing.

Anyway, most days have been spent in bed with brief periods with the screaming girls. My wife has been wonderful, coping with it all, just giving me space and making sure i drink!

Oddly, the big spots have got bigger and the small ones seem to be retreating, but it just looks like really bad acne. I have also found that the areas i didnt put calmine lotion on are much more comfortable and a lot less inflamed... I left my chest alone altogether and ive hardly noticed it.

Wish id never put any on my face and head.

Im taking lemsip twice a day and any old painkillers i can find before i go bed.

I cannot see that i will be in any shape to go work in 10 days, not unless they start scabbing over soon.

I spent the first few days really worrying about the scars i may get on my face, now i couldnt care less, i just want it over asap, i want to be able to eat without pain, sit, lie down, blink without feeling the huge blisters on my eylids touching, pick things up without the blisters on my fingers screaming.

Other than that im starting to feel ok, im going to go round the house later and remove all the mirrors.

My advice, only put calomine lotion on if you need to, keep cool - avoid sweating if poss. And avoid reading stuff on the internet, this site is the exception, i want to hear from someone on day 14...
