Bells Palsy :: Started With Ear Infection

Aug 12, 2015

A week today I was diagnosed with an ear infection. Friday morning I had to go back to the G.P, as I have bells palsy. I'm into my 6th day with it and I'm taking steroids as well as tablets to stop me feeling dizzy. I am going on holiday in 3 weeks and I am starting to worry. Has anyone been on holiday with it before.

Bells' Palsy - Non Cerebral :: Day By Day Experience

Day 1

I woke up after having a cold/bad throat for about a week and noticed it was a little difficult to speak. I had a look in the mirror and thought it was because of the cold. By lunch time I could not grip a straw with my lips and one side of my mouth and my cheek would not move properly. I tried to wink or blink and could only do it with one eye and when I tried to screw my face up it only did it on one side. I did think that had a stroke and booked an appointment at the Doctors. She gave me a course of steroids and gave me a leaflet that explains about BP.

Day 2

My eye is a little worse today, I had a little control over my blinking yesterday and today it is almost impossible. It just continually streams that is quite a nuisance. I went and bought some surgical tape to tape it closed with tonight. It is far harder to get food in my mouth today as well as it does not seem to open as well as it did yesterday. On the plus side I do think I still have my taste on the left side. I get pins and needles and twitching around the area of my jaw and my forehead ATM.

Bell's Palsy :: Started With Numbness On The Right Side Of My Lips

Mine started about a week ago, with a numbness on the right side of my lips. It spread to my right cheek and eye the next day. My right ear is super sensitive to sound, my eye doesn't close, chewing food is difficult, I can't spit (brushing teeth) and my speech is slurred. Terribly stressful and embarrassing.
I'm using straws to drink, eye drops constantly (with a patch when at home) and now carry earplugs. Perhaps there's useful tips you can share on how you deal or dealt with it.

Bell's Palsy :: Musician's Palsy - Play The French Horn

I play the French horn and got the Bell's palsy after an exceptionally day playing 3 weeks ago. It seems to be fading already. I was sent to the stroke unit and found to be A1 in all other respects. My treatment was 7 days x 60mg steroids. If I return to playing, will it happen again?

Neurological Disorders :: Pseudobular Palsy? (Or A Bulabar Palsy?)

A person i know has suffered a stroke 8 years ago. He says he woke up at night wanting to go to the bathroom, but found unable to get up. He had his mouth drawn to the right side. His wife has taken him to the hospital. He was diagnosed to have suffered a stroke and had hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

The patient suffers dysarthria without improvement ever-since. Has drooling, fasciculations in the tongue. A small dent in the tongue which (i'm not sure) may be attributed to wasting. Jaw jerk is normal (I think so). No weakness in arms and legs.

What is this condition. IS it Pseudobulbar palsy? (Or a bulbar palsy?)

P.S: There is not pseudobulbar affect in this patient. Can a patient have pseudobulbar palsy without having emotional instability?

Started Producing Precum At The Age Of 30

I am 34 years old and about 4 years ago I started getting precum every time I got sexually excited. The more excited I get the more that is produced. It is a clear sticky substance that has no smell and is slippery when rubbed. At first I thought I might have caught an STD but after three trips to the GU clinic and every test returning negative I have ruled that out.

My question is is this normal to just start producing precum at the age of 30 and is there anything I can do to stop or reduce the amount being produced. Every time I get the slightest but sexually aroused (and I get aroused really easily) I produce it and it is embarrassing to the point that I am avoiding physical contact with my girlfriend to stop it from occurring.

Any help with this would be most appreciated as it has been driving me mad for the last 4 years.

Bell's Palsy Or A Stroke?

My mother was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on Sept 2nd, 1 week ago. She has left sided facial paralysis, but she also has COMPLETE left sided weakness. The left sided weakness started about 2 days after her face. The doctors have done CTs and MRIs with contrast and ruled out a stroke, but they do not know why she has left sided weakness. Has anyone else had complete left/right weakness with Bell's Palsy? Also since the diagnosis of Bell's Palsy my mother has been confused at times, her memory is horrible (can't remember her SSN now), has trouble saying what she is thinking at times, and is just NOT the same. Anyone with similar symptoms please help! The doctors are saying possible early onset of dementia??? My mother is 49. I have just never heard of all these symptoms with Bell's Palsy

Benign Fasciculation Syndrome With Palsy?

I visited my neurologist a few days ago with widespread fasciculations and generalized fatigue as my main symptoms and he diagnosed me with BFS - which, after looking up, I believe is an accurate diagnosis.

However, one symptom I may have downplayed with him is a droop on the left side of my face. It started two months ago with my left eye watering more than normal, air coming out of my left eye whenever I blew my nose (this had never happened to me before), and occasionally when I talk I get this weird sensation of not being able to hear properly out of my left ear that goes away on its own. Now, I have a minor but still noticeable lip droop that has given me a crooked smile and has resulted in me occasionally slurring words.

The neurologist suggested it is a minor form of Bell's Palsy, but when I looked up Bell's Palsy most people seemed to suggest it had a sudden onset, whereas mine came on over months.

So I guess what I'm wondering is, could this be something more serious than BFS? He didn't give me an EMG although I did pass the strength test fine, I do work out, and I am 19 years old, but should I consider revisiting him or a different neurologist and greater stress the severity of my facial droop? What do all of you think it could be?

Bell's Palsy :: Back After 14 Months

I had Bell's Palsy last year and with in 14 months i got it back. First time i think it took around 6 weeks to recover 90%. I still have some signs of it. During First time - i had pain behind my ear for 3 days and on 4th day - I started noticing something wrong and by the end of the day - i had total facial paralysis on my left side.

Now for second time - it is so weird that i had pain for almost 5 days and on 6th day i started noticing changes and by end of the day i am still normal and by end of 7 day it got worse.

I went to Doctor and he kind of confirmed Bells Palsy ( not sure whether he is 100% sure) and gave me Steroids and Antivirals.

Weird part is why is it so slow this time - after 2 complete days of initial symptoms - i am still able to close my eyes ( forcefully and not like the other one) and i am still able to smile little bit ( very slightly). Is it something normal to Bell's Palsy or i have something else.

Cerebral Palsy :: Baclofen Pump? Do You Have One?

My 12 (almost 13) year old daughter is about to get a baclofen pump. She is a foot user as her arms are severely spastic and have a mind of their own. The doctors all say that it will help with her hip pain (she has a dysplastic hip, it is on the leg that she uses) as well as the spasticity and tightness and pain that she has. they also say that it may help with her speech (she speaks very slowly and sometime cannot speak so well as her tightness makes her mouth all wonky).

She has botox about a year ago and it worked wonderfully... for about a week. so the doc does not want to do it anymore. I am totally ok with the pump and she really wants it, but i wanted to speak with others who have CP and have experience with the pump to know what your experience is.
