Hyundai makes squeaky noise when starting and stopping engine, starting to move and also when traveling at speed (during gear changing, turning, etc). What causes it? See website below for video with noise:
View 3 RepliesI have a 2000 Accent with 90k miles. The last week or two, it takes about 5- 6 seconds of cranking to start when the engine is cold. Having had the car since new, I know that it's not normal.
The engine seems to crank strongly, and once started idles and drives well. This occurs once about every 4 starts when engine cold. Warm engine starts normal.
Changed plugs - no difference. Maintenance current per owners manual schedule.
My daughter has a 2000 accent , SOHC 12V, I think it's the 1.5L.. It will not stay running when the engine is cold...........after it warms up, or if it sits in the hot sun it's fine................it has 166K .
She said she took it to an auto parts store and had the engine code read, p1123 came up.....
Code P1123 : Long term fuel trim, at idle - mixture too rich..
What do you think this is caused by................ the inlet air temp sensor? I was told someone just replaced the air max flow sensor, that don't sound correct to me, but that's what they called it....probably the MAF sensor....
I was on the way to the airport in my 2004 Hyundai Accent last night when a loud thumping/clunking noise starting coming from the rear end. At first it sounded like a flat tire or something stuck in the tire so I stopped to inspect but everything looked good. I continued my trip as the noise continued to get louder but made it home. I worked on the car for several hours today and have not had any luck nailing down the cause. The sound appears to be coming from the drivers side rear tire area and would get much quieter when I turned right. It sounds like a spot on the wheel is hitting something but I don't see any area that shows signs of wear. Things I have checked:
- Jacked up back end and spun both tires, both spin with no noise and have no play.
- Removed both rear drums and inspected but all looks good.
- Inspected all rear end suspension bushings but don't see anything that stands out.
- I did notice the strut on the drivers side has some play where the passenger side is tight but when I rock the car up and down I hear nothing.
My vehicle is a 2005 Hyundai Accent GLS with 38,000 miles.
I recently had work done on my rear brakes after having a pretty horrific, loud metal-on-metal grinding/screeching sound. - the pads are still at 60 percent so they did not put on new pads, but they did a rear brake adjustment, shaved the rear rotors, etc.
That horrible sound is gone, but it has been replaced by a low-frequency groan from the rear brakes under hard stopping, from about 10mph down to 0mph. I honestly could not even hear it myself with the radio on but noticed it when coming to a stop without the radio on. It usually stops happening after a couple hard stops, then happens again the next time I get in the car and go somewhere.
To describe the sound, under those exact braking conditions it almost sounds like what driving a car through snow sounds like. Or a shoveling snow sound, minus the sound of the shovel itself hitting the ground. I am not noticing any corresponding vibration or decrease in stopping power.
Not sure if that makes any sense, but it's the best I can do. Could it simply be rust buildup working its way out? We have had a wet, cold, snowy winter and my car is parked outside every night overnight.
About a year ago, I bled all 4 brakes and put in new fluid on my 01 Accent GS 1.6L auto. Still to this day, they are very spongy, and you have to push them far to get good stopping power. My pads are ok on the front, rear shoes are ok as well. No leak in lines anywhere. What's up with this?
View 3 RepliesSo yesterday during a work lunch my CEL light came on. my car only has 20,700 miles on it. and I bought it brand new. So obviously I was very nervous. I took the car straight to the dealership and dropped it off, seeing as I was only 3 blocks away from the dealership.
They ran the diagnostic and it said there was issue with a cylinder misfire. And after some more tests it led them to replace the engine coil. They drove it 5 miles and believed it corrected the issue. That evening after work when the shuttle came to pick me up, I drove the car home and no issues what so ever. Car actually seemed to be getting up to speed better than before. (car is automatic).
The issue, this morning when starting the car and getting ready for work, I hear a weird noise when starting the car, revving the engine, and getting up to speed. It is not a ticking noise, I would describe it more as a rattle but that doesn't even describe it real well.
They also did an oil change. I bought the car brand new, and have never had any issues and religiously get oil changed by dealership every 3 months.
My 2000 jetta won't start. Lights, beeping, everything else happens when I put the key in, but nothing happens when I try to start it. I don't hear any noise coming from the engine, i.e. clicking, etc. I can push start it and it works fine.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2012 GLS automatic with 78,000 miles on it. Till now I never had any issues but recently I started having issues with starting the car. Its taking few tried to get it started. This happened 3 times and I got it checked at 2 places and they said everything (battery, starter, alternator) looks OK and they may not be able to find the issue until car breaks down as issue looks intermittent.
Later one time, I was driving on local road and car kept moving but I felt a small jerk like engine is stopping or gear shifting...and RPM fell to 0 but car kept moving. I stopped on the shoulder and turned off the ignition. After few trials, car started again and moved fine. This same issue happened today morning on the fwy when I am driving at 70 mph. It started after few trials.
This is about a 2000 gmc sierrra 2500 truck I purchased with 194k a few years ago. It now has 232k. Whenever I go from a complete stop, the noise sounds as if it comes from the rear area. It sort of has a sliding umph noise, as if a slide hammer is going from front to back with a resounding stop as I move forward. I have checked the driveline, the rearend, the bed attaching bolts, and most everything in the rear section for tightness.
I had the bed loaded heavily once and it seemed to not make the noise. When I tow a boat or tow nothing it makes this noise with a sort of bang or stopping sensation at the end like the slide of something that then stops. Who wants to ride under my truck for a diagnosis? Could it be in the transmission? ha, it could be anything we all know that !
For a while my car has been revving while I am at a stop. After stopping the engine revs up to around 2000 rpm, then drops and feels like it is stalling. I brought it to a mechanic an he cleaned the throttle body, but that did nothing. I have been reading around and it sounds like it may be a vacuum leak. Does this sound right? If so what is the best way to find the leak?
View 7 RepliesMy engine is making a ticking noise. Louder when I start it and not as intense after it warms up but its still there. I first thought it was one of my pulleys making noise but I brought it to a friend who knows a lot more then I do and he says to check the engine valves. Did some searching online and thinking it might be the valve lash adjuster but not sure.
Anyway whats the best way to go about this? What type of oil should I be using and I also read I should be only buying Hyundai oil filters?
When you start the engine on my 04 hyundai accent something under the hood is making a ticking sound. Seems if you run the engine awhile the ticking decreases. What this is?
View 5 RepliesRecently, my 04 accent (97,000 miles on engine and auto trans) has started to develop a rattling or Clanking noise coming from the engine at low RPM's. I flushed the engine and changed the oil and oil filter, thinking it could be due to oil clogging the HLA, But this was a no go. The engine is still making the noise, and I think it is starting to get worse.
The noise only happens when the car is idling at low RPM's. As soon as I rev the engine past 1000-1500 RPM's, the noise stops. The noise is worse when idling in gear, either reverse or drive, however as soon as you accelerate past 1000-1500 RPM, the noise goes away, until you decelerate to low RPM again. I'll try to take a video of it and post a link to it on here tomorrow.
I have just joined, and posted as below, not sure where it went though so here it is again. As I suspect with many others newbies I am posting to try and solve a problem. I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent diesel (with only 54000 on the clock) which worked OK for over a year. I now has an intermittent starting fault. It played up in the winter, fiddled with the fuel filter and was OK for months, also had it serviced beginning of year. It then played up again a few times recently so had the fuel filter changed. Now worse than ever! This model does not have glow plugs, apparently a fuel heater. If starts 1st time works perfectly. Otherwise it can take up to 10 times to start. Seems no particular circumstances. Usually starts from cold but I do a lot of stop start driving. Took back to local garage and they couldn't get it not to start! Started ok 3 times this morning only to stop on the 4th. I fiddle with the fuel filter and connections and it goes, but this could be pure co-incidence?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 1.6 DOHC Accent the engine has been making a lot noise coming form just the back of the head it kinda sounds like a diesel. I pulled the valve cover off and turned the engine over by hand. I noticed that cam chain has a good amount of slack in it. Is there a tensioner to take slack out of the chain? If so can I adjust it? If not how do I replace the chain?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2000 model accent manual trans its just recently clocked 200 000 km I know the car has had problems but they are getting worse. Occasionally I have Problems starting the car in the past but it usually takes no more than 5 turns to get started but this is getting worse the other day it took about 5 min maybe more to get the car started I am guessing my starter motor probably Needs to be changed.
Next problem yesterday after I put a full tank of Premium 98 in the car its starts to rev itself changing the sound and note of the motor running constantly it has done this in the past but not so severely and It only seem to do so after putting petrol Especially when I put fuel From a servo I don't usually go to the car would have stalled more than once but didn't only because I tried to keep the revs up when it sounded like it was gunna die also I am pretty sure my fan was making some weird noises but the car has had no engine Light show and no Overheating.
So I had all of my belts changed including timing belt and tensioner pulley as well as an oil change. After, I noticed a weird pulsating grinding/wining noise coming from the engine bay. It only can be heard once the car is warmed up. (It is much louder in real life.).

My ugly little 2000 Accent that I've taken careful care of for 240,000 miles has developed an intermittent, multi-symptom cold starting problem, how to solve....
Background on the car: I've owned this car since it had only 9,000 miles, so I know everything that's happened to it over the years. I've kept up on all the regularly-scheduled maintenance over the years and miles - oil changes, timing belts, engine coolant, water pump, belts and hoses, pcv valve, plugs & wires, fuel and air filters, transmission fluid, etc.
No check engine light on, no codes to diagnose available
Not leaking oil from the top or the bottom
No vacuum leaks
Runs strong, no loss of power or rough running at idle or under load
No major components related to spark and fuel delivery have been replaced - coil pack, fuel pump, etc
Symptoms:
Starting problem 1 - The car will simply refuse to catch and start up, sometimes for as long as 10-15 seconds of cranking, after which it starts and runs normally. This happens infrequently, but has been becoming more frequent in recent months.
Starting problem 2 - The car will immediately start to fire (one or more of the cylinders will catch), but will hesitate to fully start up for about 2-3 full engine rotations, what I would describe as a rough start.
i recently changed my engine oil and filter from carquest brand to quaker state and about 500 miles later, i started having some issues like, rough idle and loud ticking and bottom engine noise. is that just a coincidence or any problems with this oil? 1.6L D.O.H.C.
View 2 RepliesI have a Hyundai-Accent 1.5 GL, Auto, year 2000 car. I bought this 4 months ago and ever since it has been giving the check engine signal. However, running conditions of the car has been normal and therefore, I didn't worry about the check engine signal. Now, the engine is rough idling for few seconds when I start the car in the morning, and then it comes back to normal.
