2001 F-350 w/powerstroke. Tranny is the automatic w/overdrive. right at 170K miles and it has not been serviced since I've owned it (about 10 years).
Lately it is jerking when shifting, especially noticeable when I'm pulling my 5er (10K lbs). Almost a "clunk". No warning lights or OD flashing. I live at 6000 feet and play at over 9K so mountain driving is routine. Fluid is up to right spot on the dip-stick.
My buddy's 2001 7.3L F350 has had 3 transmissions. Rebuilt and used. Once the new trans is in he goes like 15 miles and then is starts shifting hard and grinding gears. What this could be?
View 8 RepliesBought my first Diesel few weeks ago and I am trying to figure out if something is normal. Its a 2004 F350 and the truck seems to jerk a little bit when I come to a stop and when I hit on the gas. Feels like a tug every time into gear.
I would like to say its first to second but it cant be because its basically only happens when I press on the gas and start rolling, unless I am going into second immediately thats not it. I know less than dick about this truck?
I have a 2010 Matrix with automatic transmission. 5.5 year old with only 44,000 KM ... The transmission jerks annoyingly when up-shifting from gear one to two. I replaced the transmission oil and had Toyota service confirm there is a problem.
I read that the accumulator should be checked and adjusted as well as the throttle which can be done without removing the transmission, but Toyota tells met hat everything is now electronic and there is nothing to adjust. How to proceed?
Transmission Problems in 2001 Volvo XC70 with 123k... A year ago, I had the input and output speed sensors replaced after the service light came on indicating a transmission problem. The transmission has always made a clunking sound and now it is having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd when doing city driving for a while. It jerks significantly when it finally shifts. It is usually fine in the morning on my 3 mile commute but if I am running around town or after coming off of the highway, it has a hard time shifting. The book states only to have the transmission fluid changed every 52,500 if you use the car to tow which I do not. Should I just give it up and get a new car as everyone I know is recommending? I love this car and otherwise it is in beautiful shape.
View 3 RepliesI just recently bought a 95 F150 with a 351. The truck has high mileage, about 190k, and I am not sure how long the transmission has left. It rides smooth down the road, but when I put the truck into reverse it hesitates for a moment then makes a loud clunking sound(as if a door is being slammed) and then jerks into gear. The reverse works great at the moment though. Should I be worried, is there anything I can do to fix this?
View 11 Replies2007 Azera 120k miles. Have noticed first thing in the morning when shifting from 4th to 5th gear, I hear a clunk.. Yesterday I heard two clunks when downshifting from 5th to 4th. Tried shifting the car manually today and was able to replicate the problem. After 15 minutes of driving, the problem is gone.Never seems to happen in the afternoon after car has been driven.Transmission fluid is full. Have always changed at the 60k intervals.Fluid is not burnt. Light pink color.
What could possibly be causing this? Is this likely to get worse? How long might I have before the car might become not drivable ? I ask this because I have been considering trading it in for a new car. Now seems to be a good time to buy a 2016 car, since the 2017"s are almost out.
The first thing is that suddenly there's a clunk type noise from the transmission when shifting in to or out of 2/3/4. Also, when I'm in one of those gears, letting off the throttle and then re-applying lightly causes the clunk noise. However, I haven't noticed any actual performance difference, just the new noise. It's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio at a reasonable volume, and it may or may not be my imagination but I think I can feel it through the floor of the car.
The next thing is that in the mornings, the car seems to have trouble getting in to gear from a stop. So I'll pull up to a light, then stop, and if I take off the brake and get immediately on the throttle, the car will lurch pretty bad, even if it's only a little throttle. I've found that if I let off the brake, and wait specifically to hear/feel the transmission kick in, there's no lurch and everything is fine.
Also, on that same note, sometimes when I let off the brake at these times, the car nearly stalls. It hasn't stalled yet but it's felt close a few times.
As well, from a cold start, there is what feels like an absolute ton of engine braking in second gear, I can feel the car pulling back immediately after I let off the throttle, and this seems strange and new as well.
I bought a friends 95 f350 7.3 powerstroke with an E4OD. The truck quit driving.the OD light is not blinking. I confirmed the OD light does light up.The trans fluid is full , red and does not smell burnt. I have tried to manually shift 1st and second nothing happens. No reverse. Where should I look for the problem? Solenoid pack, loose valve body, bad relay?

View 5 RepliesI have a 2011 F-350 6.2L that has extremely hard shifts from 3 to 4 going up and 2 to 1 going down. Sometimes on downshifts it feels like something has ran into the back of the truck. I had the computer updated when the truck had approximately 40,000 miles on it and he assisted a little bit. The truck now has 140,000 miles and it is back to shifting horribly. I put it in the shop at the dealer on 30 December 2013. The dealer says that the problem is that the shift solenoids need to be replaced but that they are not available. The truck is still sitting at the dealer and I am being told that the parts should be available mid February.
View 10 RepliesSo my trans clicks and jerks every time it downshifts into 2nd but that is the only time it does it. When i down shift using the tip shift it doesn't do anything and it all feels normal. What it could be being that it is just when it downshifts into second.
My car is a 2001 v6 4motion.
Bought truck drove it 240 miles on interstate 80 mph no problems---2001 F350 4x4 auto. Next morning backed out drive and trans fluid trail 6 inches wide. Didn't leak in forward gears (at that time) added fluid and drive to town shifted fine.
Next day gonna drive 150 miles to check out leak. (Son was driving it) said it wouldn't go over 40 mph. Revving high. Hauled truck here on trailer and pulled tranny. Rear housing cracked just before 4x4 adapter. (This trans was rebuilt 10k miles ago) ..
Got used 4R100 from friend who replaced only because he built one for his truck. It was shifting fine etc when pulled 6 months ago. Used cracked trans TC and installed. Test drive no 4th or OD. Pulled trans put TC that came with trans in. Still no OD. Put on scanner while driving. Trans is being commanded to shift to OD but not up shifting. 45mph at 2400rpm.
Pulled plug to solenoid pack inside trans ( this should make trans default to OD / limp mode) still no OD and won't go over 45.
Pulled OD button checked wires inside steering column. All looks great. Not even a heavy rub mark.
Should I replace the coil pack in trans? Where do I go from here? Again this trans was known to be good when pulled 6 months ago.

Transmission shifting hard when under strain. My truck has 417k miles and the transmission is shifting a little hard when it is under strain. For example going up hills when in cruise and such forth, no problems otherwise.
My question is kinda weird: Since the fluid has never been changed or added to for that matter (fluid level is correct) , should I change it now or just ride it out? It is still my primary vehicle and runs perfectly!

I know its a weird question but could putting new fluid in at this time make more problems?
Trans has new solenoids in the trans but is shifting too firm sometimes from 1-2 or 2-3.. It is tolerable going up, but when slowing down it jerks really bad from 2-1. Sounds and feels horrible for the trans and miserable during stop and go traffic. Ive had to switch it to Manual and start off in 2nd gear. Im deleted, with intake, and a custom sct x4 tune. My main question is there any way a new tune could have better shift points?
View 14 RepliesTruck shakes when in 3rd or final gear. When I shift it in second it won't shake at 45. If I press the gas and make the truck shift from 3rd to 4th it will stop shaking then start back up. Is it the torque converter or trans? Or u joints?
View 10 RepliesI have a 94 Ford Crown Victoria with 180,000 miles. I got it from my grandmother in 2008. It's a great car a runs like a dream most of the time. Here's the problem though...for the past three summers, when the temperature outside gets above about 70 degrees, it starts giving me transmission problems. The shifting becomes rough, and it revs and jerks. It does this all summer and then when the weather cools off again it runs beautifully. Do I need a new transmission or is there something less expensive that I can do to fix this? Why does the transmission act up only in warm weather?
View 5 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2001 E350 with a 7.3L and the transmission is not shifting properly. It will go into Reverse no problem, put it in "D" and it starts in high gear and will not shift out. If I manually shift from 1 to 2 to "D" it works fine and will even go into OD. It will not down shift on its own either. What should I do to fix this issue?
View 2 RepliesMy trusty 1994 Ford F150 is starting to show her age, I think. I'm noticing a few issues:
1 - most concerning to me is she jerks pretty hard when shifting through the first few gears during relatively warm weather. The cold snap has abated the issue for now. Had the transmission fluid checked - mechanic said it's fine.
2 - This is a fun electrical issue. I'm driving down the highway when suddenly the cruise control shuts off, as does the speedometer and the digital odometer. The Tach still works, as do the rest of the gauges. Maybe 10 - 15 minutes later, they all come back on. It's done this a couple times.
3# - Really annoying but very minor; when I push down on the foot feed, there's a bit of a squeak in the engine. I'm guessing it's a tensioner pulley on the serpentine belt, but why it would only happen when I give it some gas?
So, the R is my first stick car and I've only been driving stick for 5-6 months now. I know that smoothness comes with time. I feel pretty comfortable with my skills overall (still have some issue with hill starts and smooth starts in general). Wen I don't know what I'm doing wrong when it comes to upshifting from 1st to 2nd. All other shifts are smooth.
When I try to shift normally, the car jerks. So, I tried releasing the clutch slower, this gets rid of the jerk but it bogs the engine. I've tried various things like getting back on the gas a little sooner, or pausing/slowing down the clutch release through the engagement point but I just can't seem to figure out what works and what doesn't. Is this just an issue of a larger gear ratio gap, rev hang, or what?
I have a 2001 F350 4x4. My transmission went out a while back. It would only go in reverse. I had it rebuilt and it is still having issues. When I take off with speed from a dead stop it shifts late...about 3000 RPMs. It shifts fine until it shifts into overdrive. It will go into to 4th then right into overdrive causing the truck to act sluggish.
I'm looking into my truck not starting well at any temp too! I didn't know if it could all be connected some how. My mechanic said that when he first started my truck it had a MAP sensor code. He also said that when he unplugged that sensor it didn't change the way the truck ran..Still like crap. I have changed all glow plugs relays and even did the mod to it.
