Whenever I completely engage the clutch after shifting into 5th, there car bogs for a second if I give immediate throttle after shifting. It doesn't happen if I wait a second or when driving in fifth gear.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2001 vw jetta 2.0 and I was accelerating on the interstate the other day and the car just started bogging down and now the car only accelerates slowly at partial throttle any more and it makes a loud intake noise and bogs down also the car idles bad and even at partial throttle the car struggles to get above 3k rpm, I scan for codes and got MAF, O2 sensor before the cat and camshaft position sensor, I replaced the camshaft position sensor and car still runs like crap, what is the problem??
View 4 RepliesI just bought a 2002 Accent L 5sp with 37,000 miles. It ran great for a couple hours, then started hesitating/bogging over half throttle. I also noticed the idle was a bit high at this time. Suspecting a dirty throttle position sensor, I repeatedly pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor for 15 seconds with the engine off.(this will sometimes clean gunk off the contacts inside the tps) I drove the car again, and now the symptoms changed. Now it has a hesitation under half throttle, and accelerates cleanly above that. Car has not and is not misfiring. I am on the right track with the tps sensor here?
View 8 RepliesI have a 1997 Olds Bravada with 170K miles. Engine was running fantastic up until three weeks ago. Suddenly engine is "bogging" down and transmission is shifting between gears at certain speeds (like it can't decide---usually around 40mph). Replaced catalytic converter because mechanic said it was plugging. Now engine seems even worse---it feels like it is working really hard, like the brakes are stuck on or like it is pulling a really heavy load. Gas mileage is worse. Trans is still not shifting right...at 40 and 50 mph it can't "decide" what gear to be in and switches back and forth, and at higher speeds it has slight hesitations, like it's "missing" or not getting fuel for a split second. Mechanic said it needs a tune up.
Background: Replaced transmission one year ago with remanufactured trans (could all-wheel drive be stuck "on"?). Replaced catalytic converter. Also just had A/C recharged and began using it about one week before these troubles began. I have stopped using the A/C in case it was related, but the problems have continued.
Have any other PP 6MT owners experienced strange throttle hesitation while shifting with a APR 1.2 HO tune? I know what turbo lag feels like, but it is almost as if the throttle position is not being read for 1-2 seconds after shifting.
No matter how hard/fast I shift, I can't get the tires to chirp, even shifting at high RPM. When I watch my speedo after shifting, the needle does not move at all until the delay ends, and of course it moves fast when the boost builds. But for 1-1.5 seconds after shifting, with the pedal to the floor, I would expect some acceleration, even not at full boost.
Even when not shifting, and going from no throttle to medium/full throttle, there is a delay with no acceleration and no significant noise/rev build.
I don't remember this being as pronounced before I was tuned. Also, I had GFB DV+ installed about the same time, but I would expect the DV+ to make this better, not worse.
It's only in manual with about 30-50% throttle shifting around 3K RPM and only from 1st-2nd-3rd, after that it's fine.

View 1 RepliesI've just bought a 2002 Passat, v6 5 speed manual with 119,000 km on it. When I shift through the first two gears the rpm are not dropping immediately... about a 1 second lag. I haven't had a clear answer about what it is I have called two dealerships and two independent mechanics except. They say that it could be a variety of things that might be wrong with the throttle body.

When the car shifts into 4th the Rpms seem to drop kind of and the car seems like it is bogging down. Not extreme, but I don't remember this when I first got it. It's like I really have to accelerate when it shifts into 4th or I cannot pick any speed up.
Is it because the motor is now broken in? It has right at 8,000 miles now. It's due for an oil change, but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it !
I have a 337 running the ATP gt2x kit with revo stg3 and external fuel w/550cc injectors. The car has power in the first three gears until 4200 RPM then it acts like it backfires and then looses all power, but it will drive and boost normal in 4th,5th, and 6th gear. I have basic boost settings running on the revo and cant figure out what the problem is.
View 7 RepliesI finally decided to take my car in to the dealership for this random split second hesitation that mostly happens in first gear. I have 8600 miles on the car and it has done it since the day I bought it. I thought it might have been compressor related from running the AC. I have tried driving with no AC and ESP off and it still does it.
So I take it in and they decided to let the new guy work on my car. I take him on a ride (AC and ESP off) and sure enough it does it nice and strong for him to feel it. I was happy so we went back to the dealership and they gave me a 2.slow rental and I was on my way. 24 hours later they call and tell me, "Ron we believe it might be your throttle body so we're waiting on the regional master tech to get his opinion before we put a $750 part on your car".
I'm like "ok, whatever you say, just call me tomorrow with an update because I don't want it back till it's fixed". They call me the next day to inform me that my brake light switch was faulty ($10.25), they replaced my wiper blades, adjusted my wiper arms and the car was ready to be picked up.
Now that I have it back I can say driving it now that it's acting normal is an adjustment. My mind expect that hiccup but it doesn't happen, at least not most of the time. I'm not completely convinced that this hesitation is gone because I think I felt it happen once yesterday. Time will tell... In the mean time it is 95% cured.
So I just got home from a road trip yesterday, no problems on the trip. This morning I drive out of my neighbourhood, turn onto the highway and I think to myself, that's strange, clutch feels a little notchy ... and then I go to shift gears and it won't go into gear. Any gear. I push down and it just won't engage, it pops right back up. Had to walk a mile home carrying my kid in his car seat and trailing my 6 year old little girl. Now I'm getting it towed home so I can check the engine bay to make sure everything is cool. If everything is connected and I can't determine the issue then I gotta flash back to stock and hit up VW and have it towed over there.
View 9 RepliesPosting this because I saw many other owners with the same problem. Basically after warming up DSG every time clunk into 6th gear on light throttle and D mode, speed around 50kmh rpm around 1400.
You can hear it and feel it on pedal a little. Sometimes is not so harsh sometimes its big clunk. Of course it did on manual mode too if you try shift in the same position.

Its well known that DSG D mode is set to shift early for better fuel economy but this is not good and really annoying.
I have same problem and its not mechatronic related mine was replaced do to jerkiness on 2 gear and clunking into 6th it is the same.
So I know that fix could be DSG tune/reprogram that many company offer. D mode is optimized and shifting moved to "normal" rpms. A lot of you don't have even problem because your its already flashed with combo etc.
But in my area no body offer DSG tune and i really don't know how to solve this problem... don't want to replace whole gearbox because in all other ways works ok.
I have 2012 MU with i think lastest SW and it didnt change anything on this.
Getting a misfire at part throttle. Whether the car is in gear or sitting. At idle there is no misfire, and at WOT there is no misfire. But if you hold the throttle part way (like when trying to cruise) you immediately see the misfire count go through the roof on vag-com. this can be duplicated in the garage by holding the idle to 1500-2k with no load on the motor.
4 codes, which come back immediately at part throttle as described above.

tried moving plugs and coils with no change, problem stayed on first 3 cylinders
checked t-body readings and appears to be aligned ok
checked maf readings and appear to be ok
found one questionable vacuum line and replaced it, no change.
checked vag-com fuel trims and they showed -4.7% which appears to be with in the acceptable 5% range
watching lamda on both front O2 sensors and they seem to be following the same trend.
When I look at measuring blocks 26/27 it shows me knock sensor signal on all six cylinders, and 1-3 are much lower than 4-6. This is the only discrepancy I have located, and not sure if it is the cause or an effect of the problem. I checked the knock sensor (located below exhaust manifold on passenger side) and the sensor and wiring appear good. I checked resistance best I could and it appears in spec (infinite resistance) but the pins are so small and the spec is so vague I am not 100% on the results.
I have vag-com and a full shop access, but no R32 specific bentley unfortunately. I only have the older (up to 2002 I think) MK4 manual but that only covers the 12v. Looking for the wiring diagrams for the coils or knock sensor harness'...
I had something weird happen to my DSG today. I was accelerating from a stop light in manual mode until third gear at half throttle then shifted to 'Drive' at about 45 MPH. The transmission kept shifting back and forth from drive to manual. The MFD gear display kept switching from S to D every few seconds at light throttle. The mode selector was set to normal on the radio display. I turned into a parking lot, shut the car off, and then restarted. Once restarted, the DSG returned to operating normally. The CEL was not on and did not see any error messages on the displays.
Should I take it to the dealer for inspection? I am a first time DSG owner after 25 years of manuals and overall I like the DSG but it does have some quirks.
I know it will get a little notchy when its cold out, but shifting from 1st to 2nd is really notchy, and the shift box is pretty loud on that shift. I don't think its a trans issue, the noise seems like its only in the shift box. and goes away after 5-10 minutes or so, but it seems a bit excessive, especially for a new car. Car has 3500 miles on it, and has been doing this pretty much the whole time on cold starts.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 jetta 1.8t. Just recently it hasn't been shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. It will when the transmission is cold but once warmed up it will no longer shift into fourth gear. Just looking for some possible solutions. Going to check the fluid this weekend.
View 1 RepliesLast couple morning here in Michigan we've seen temps in the low to mid 30's. The last two mornings when I shift between 1, 2 & 3 I'm hearing a clicking noise coming from the clutch when engaging the gear. After a few minutes, once it warms up, the clicking goes away.
I am @ stage 1+ W/VWR intake, but I'm not expecting clutch troubles from that.
The DSG in my MY08 R32 is a lemon. It thumps/clunks quite loudly when shifting into 6th gear at low speed (50-60km). It seems to make the noise a lot when it's in D mode.
View 7 RepliesWhen I was driving on Friday I noticed that moving into 2nd, 4th, and 6th were "soft." I could hardly feel it engage into those gears at all so I thought maybe I would adjust my linkages. So I adjusted my linkages and while sitting in my drive way everything felt solid. When I took my car for a ride down the street I could feel it engage 1st, 2nd, 3rd no problem but after driving around for a few minutes my 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears felt soft again and then it got worse where I couldn't even shift into those gears anymore.
So my R, 1, 3, 5 all worked fine but didn't have 2, 4, 6. After taking a look at my linkages and I pulled off the selector cable and and shifter cable end. I noticed that on the shifter cable end that it felt wobbly and on the selector cable end it was rock solid. I am just wondering if the shifter cable end being worn out could be my issue? Is the shifter cable end supposed to have a little play in it and be wobbly? Or is there another issue I should be looking for? Here is a video of just how wobbly it is. [URL].....
So I have a 2.0L jetta with 160,000ish (daily driven) miles. And I'm starting to see a bit of a shifting issue mostly into third. Seems like I get locked out of the gear while shifting from second to third. I have to push it in(catches the "lock out") then I pull back and push forward again and it pops in. I rarely miss gears or grind. And I've noticed only a few times it does it in fourth as well. No grinding (unless I try to force it super hard) just won't let me go into gear.
Also while on subject of gear issues...
When I go into reverse, after the car has been sitting over night or for a longer period ( I would say between 8-14 hours) it will act up, almost like I am trying to drive with the parking brake fully engaged. In order to make it stop such bad behavior I have to rev it higher and it makes a *pop* or *crack* noise. Then it reverses just fine.
I've done a little bit of searching, "Look for a binding in the engine bay" and I have looked and haven't found much.
