Got flagged by a fellow driver, and told both tail lights were out; I had no dashboard warning light. Headlights were on, blinkers worked, brake lights worked. This is a small deal, but I was surprised; is there really no warning for this (2006 mid-package), or is something else the matter?
View 15 RepliesI finally found the Prius I wanted. It's used. 2006. Gen II 220k miles. Bought at auction almost completely dead and no gas. After adding gas and driving so the main battery charges. It starts up great however the dash looks a little scary with nearly every warning light on.
View 19 RepliesDriving home from work around 10pm. Leo started explaining that i had no taillights on but the brakes worked. He was right. I came home and found out my parking light fuse under the steering column was blown. I replaced the mini 10-amp fuse with a spare and they started working again. Then later, they stopped working again. Only thing i have installed electronic upgrade wise is after market LED fog lights(which went out with the parking lights but both came back on with the new fuse) and Navi bypass. What could it be?????
View 12 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:

We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
Recently while I was stupidly upgrading one of my dome lights while it was on (door open and yes stupid) I shorted it and blew the fuse. Of course jump in the drivers seat and go buy another fuse. To my amazement the car was dead. No power up starting, no door locks no fob operation or anything. The flashers and brake lights and horn worked fine and that was it.
What a great single point immobilizer!
Problem is you will lose clock, settings like reverse beep off, mpg, etc. I was dead in the water until I remembered in the engine fuse box there is a spare 15a fuse (and the fuse puller). The dome light fuse is there as well. Replaced the dome light fuse and all is well. Drove off like I had saved the world. Very strange. Looking at the wiring the junction block that the dome light fuse feeds also feeds LOTS of other areas of the car including the ECU.
Want to keep your kids from driving the car. Forget taking the keys. Pull the dome light fuse.
My passenger side tail light (the upper part above the reverse lights) don't light up when you press on the break. Or rather, they light up, but just not as bright as the driver side. I took the car to the dealership and they told me they'd need to replace the entire tail light and I just wanted to see if that was indeed the case.
View 3 RepliesMaybe I should just give up and be happy with the standard bulbs, but I had to try putting in led bulbs. While doing this the bulb I had was just a little to long. It popped of the reflector that sits on the red plastic piece and is now resting in the bottom of the housing. Is there a way of putting it back on with out destroying it or getting a new assembly.

Next day 10a fuse blew again and then 2 more times in same day. My tail lights go out and license plate light go out together when this happens. What can I do?
I have a fuse blowing in my 98 Citation that is in the panel light/exterior running lights (front and back). Could the short be in the dimmer switch in the dashboard or is that unlikely?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Generation II Touring Edition Prius. Someone informed me that my passenger side tail light was not working. I ordered some red LEDs to replace the suspected burned out bulb. When I opened up the trap door from the inside of the rear and when I checked on the bulb, it lit up. (Thought that it had loosened itself?)
When my LEDs arrived, I unplugged the bulbs (right and left) and attempted to replace the old bulbs. The LEDs would not light up. And now the bulbs will not work either.
I went to the auto parts store and bought replacement 2825 bulbs. No go. Is there a fuse that may have blown? Or ??? I don't have a tool to check for voltage - what is my next step?
I have a hairline crack (with some starring) on my left rear tail light of my 2006 Prius touring. Any good glue or compound to patch it up and prevent water/moisture/dirt from getting in there and still stay clear for light to shine through?
View 2 RepliesThis morning I tried to drive my 2008 Prius and the "check engine" light quickly blinked and the dashboard didn't light up. The monitor did turn on and I could hear the engine running. The monitor showed that the hybrid battery was almost full. While trying to go in reverse, the camera did not work. We just had an oil change done. The 12V battery was replaced almost 2 years ago. The car has almost 150K on it. I also tried tightening the gas cap. It's obviously winter and it snowed last night (in case that might be a factor).
View 19 RepliesPurchased used 2006 and the left tail light does not work at times until I rotate the socket as if removing it. This happens frequently and then after about 3 weeks the bulb blows. I've confirmed the there is no socket terminal issue and no intermittent opens in the wiring to the socket. The buld internal glass blackens as if it is running too hot but the voltage measures slightly over 12V when I've measured it. The bulbs are rated at 13V. At this point the only thing I can think of is there must be an occasional high voltage spike that hits the left tail light but not the right tail light.
View 5 Replies3 days ago I bought a used 2009 Prius, the car was totally fine until today. Went down to the food mart in a gas station ..went back, and the car wont start. Lights start to flash and then it got dimmer, dashboard light went off but the check engine light.
I thought it was the 12v battery, I jump started it and the car started but with the red triangle light and the check engine light. drove it home switched it off (the warning lights were on all the time back home). tried it to switch on again but nothing happened everything is dead even the door locks.
The air bag light on the dashboard has come on. I took the car into my dealership. The upshot is they said they'd have to rip the interior apart to track the problem or "Break in the floor wiring harness."

The right rear tail light keeps burning out and we keep taking it back to the local Toyota dealer for replacement, but they have been very good about it. Though an annoyance, if that was the only problem we had I would not be here right now typing this.
Today my wife was driving and came to an intersection at a red light to make a right-hand turn. She braked coming into the turn and as she made the turn. What happened next scared her and is very concerning to us -

View 19 RepliesInstalled last week, LED no fog. Everything worked great but I had the bulb out error. Yesterday, I had the coding done and I now have an issue. Worked fine when I left the dealer and this morning I have a "Check Right Rear Light" warning. The right rear is no longer lit. Back up light works, tail light does not. I think the dealer changed byte 18 to 21 but also changed the setting from NA to something else... maybe ROW.
View 9 RepliesThe past few weeks the dashboard warning light for my alternator/battery will occasionally light up while driving down the road. Whenever it does, my plug in voltage meter shows a healthy 14.x reading. It usually goes out after a few seconds, but will stay lit up for as much as thirty seconds. So other than voltage being too high or too low, what else will cause the dash trouble light to illuminate?

This first happened when I bought the car in November 2014, then went off after about two days, but is becoming more frequent two or three times a month.
I travel about a mile and a half to work each day, and have a longer run usually once a month, I have been told to select 3rd gear and when warm to drive for perhaps 10 miles to clear any build up of emissions.
