Ford - Pickup :: Truck Will Not Accelerate Until Sufficiently Warmed Up

Feb 13, 2011

I am trying to understand why my truck will not accelerate until it has warmed up some...

Pickup - Chevrolet :: No Oil In Truck When Driving?

I have a 1996 Chevy pickup with a 5.7 motor. I pulled the plug, oil is draining and I usually lift the hood; but this time I didn't (don't know why). Something came up and we had to leave quickly and we jumped in the truck and got 1/8 mile down the road, I pulled the plug on the oil. Turned around and parked it - the oil filter was still in - so there should of been some oil in there!?!? Do I need to be concerned that I damaged anything?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Truck Was Idling Rough Until Warmed Up

Ok, I replaced the head gaskets on this truck a couple years back and now I am having symptoms similar to the ones I was having then. I am not entirely convinced that this is what is wrong however.

Symptoms:

Truck was idling rough until it warmed up
Truck takes forever to warm up or simply does not warm up
If/when it warms up it operates at higher than normal temp/almost overheats(it hasn't overheated yet)
Heater blows very cold air
White smoke(has been cold outside so not sure if due to temp or coolant)
Overflow bubbled when I shut the truck off, but it has only happened once so far

I am kind of at a loss, but like I said am suspicious of the head gaskets.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Truck Won't Crank Or Start After Warmed Up

I have a 97 f150 with a 4.9..... I drove it less than a half a mile and shut it off. when I got back in it to start it up it wouldn't do anything like the battery was dead but all the electrical worked but it would not turn over. after about 4 hours when I returned, it started just fine. drove it straight home and shut it off and immediately tried to start it again and had the same issue. What the culprit may be ?

Ford - Explorer :: 2008 - Delay When Start After Truck Is Warmed Up / Hot

I'm having a slow start issue with my 2008 Explorer Sport trac. Recently it's received a brand new fuel pump, a new fuel pump driver, new spark plugs and ignition coils! And it still hasn't fixed the problem, what's happening is when I start the truck after its hot, there's somewhat of a delay. As if it's starving for fuel, however, in the mornings on its first start or after a shift at work it starts just fine on the first start which prompted me to now think I'm having vapor lock! Gas cap is brand new too. I had the fuel injectors tested and they all seem fine, I'm at a complete loss.

It's killing me and as one can imagine I have spent a lot in parts and at this point in my life I have had to pay for labor instead of my usual DIY because I recently had major back surgery due to being hit by a big rig in December of last and pushed into the rear of an F350 while I was at a complete stop and the rig was doing about 40 mph. Been suffering ever since with constant doc visits, surgeries and so one to correct the issues. I'm tired of shelling out money with no solution, I had a solution I thought but apparently I was wrong. I'm going to change all relays that I think may affect the area....

Pickup - Chevrolet :: 1998 - Cannot Get Out Of Park After Truck Started

I have a 98 chevy truck and shortly after the mechanic put brakes on my truck, when I start it you cannot get it out of park. In fact sometimes when I can't get it out of park when I shut it off I have trouble removing the key from the ignition. I've found that when I want to start it I turn the key one notch put the truck in neutral and continue starting. At this point all works correct.

Nissan :: 1995 Pickup Truck Idling Really Rough

1995 pickup truck 2.4 liter 4 cal 4WD. I have a new problem- I drove out to a favorite spot in the mountains (up a dusty road) and when I got to the end of the road my truck was suddenly idling REALLY rough. I was able to drive it home and it runs "OK" as long as you stay on the gas (I say OK but it does want to die and especially wants to die after it warms up and then harder to restart until it cools)- as soon as you let off the gas the idle is on the extreme side of rough. It did not act like a fuel filter has historically (hesitate when giving gas), but I had a filter so I replaced the fuel filter anyway.

I also pulled the air duct work and cleaned it all out, put a new air filter in and used CRC MAF sensor cleaner on the MAF sensor. I did pour in a Chevron fuel system cleaner but it would likely take a tank full at least to work and it does not run good enough to run a tank full through. I put in all new plugs (gapped) and checked resistance on the plug wires and cap- all seems to be acceptable. I checked all the vacuum lines and did replace a couple that were dry and crumbly. I am now at a loss,

Ford A/C :: Overheating After Truck Has Been Warmed Up / Loud Whooshing Or Whirling Sound

My wifes 2006 mountaineer V8 overheats. She says itll only do it sometimes after the truck has been warmed up. She will come top a stop and the temp will spike and she will get a warning light then it will go back to normal and be fine. When the temp spikes she hears a loud whooshing or whirling sound coming from the motor which I supposed is the fan? Could it be a bad thermostat or waterpump?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Loud Knocking Noise When Truck Warmed Up In Drive And RPM Up To About 800

Just had my 2010 F150 in for a loud knocking noise when the truck has warmed up in drive and rpm up to about 800. I can't hear the noise when I disconnect the passenger side vtc selonoid. The Tech who worked on it has recommended replacing the motor. His troubleshooting on the ticket says he removed the coil from the number 4 cylinder and the noise he hears goes away. I just can't see that the motor is bad.

GMC :: Occasional Ticking Noise From Engine Area In 1999 Pickup Truck

My husbands GMC truck has an occasional ticking noise coming from the engine area. The noise happens when you crank up although it doesn't always happen. It will sometimes go several weeks without ticking/clicking. When it does start, the sound usually goes away after the truck "warms up" for a minute. The ticking/clicking does not change pattern when you accelerate. The mechanic said it just needed an oil change, but my husband has made sure to check the oil.

Toyota - Pickup :: 1985 - Stalling When Put The Truck In Neutral Or Don't Shift Quickly Enough

My 1985 Toyota Pickup (manual shift) is stalling out when I put the truck in neutral or don't shift quickly enough. The battery light comes on after stalling followed by the oil light. After stalling, it does start back up and repeats the same problem. If I keep my foot on the gas and the truck in gear, it runs. I'm new to DIY repairs, and bought this truck for the purpose of learning more. I know the basics, am mechanically inclined, have a repair manual, and am a quick learner.

Toyota - Pickup :: 1994 Truck Idling At 2000 When First Start The Engine

My 94 truck (Toyota 6 cylinder 3VZ engine) is currently idling at ~2000 when I first start the engine. After warming up or driving for a substantial amount of time, this eventually drops to ~1000-1100. I had the throttle body removed and cleaned (twice). This stopped some up-and-down revving which was happening, but not the high idling. This is a relatively recent development, and I've gone to 3 mechanics AND the dealer, all of whom say, 'it's fine'. They say it should run 'a little higher when it's cold'.

I think some of these assessments were based on the simple lack of engine error messages (no codes from the computer = no problem). I admit that I'm no expert, but I've had the truck for a decade; I know what's 'fine' and what's not. The usual idle was ~800 (in agreement with specs) and I've driven this truck in temps down to -30F. It has never idled this high before. Since it gets close to normal RPMs after warming up, I don't want to turn the idle adjustment down. I moved from a very cold, very dry climate at 6000 ft to a very wet, moderately cold climate at sea level - is there some other adjustment I need to make? Or is it normal for this engine to run so differently in these two climates? I'm at the end of my rope since no one thinks it's a problem except me.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Vibration / Noise When Stopped After Truck Warmed Up And Been Driven A While

2003 with 2005 motor, auto trans. After truck is warmed up and been driven a while I get a vibration/nice when stopped. Sometimes the Vibration changes with the brake peddle application. Is there a ps hose that can go bad internally on these? Anything else to look for. It's easy to hear/feel in the cab but can't hear it under the hood. Changed the ps fluid with no change.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Suspension Sounds Like Old Pickup Truck When Drive On Uneven Surface Under 30 Mph

I have a 2010 Santa Fe with only 8k on it and the suspension sounds like a 10 year old pickup truck when I drive on any uneven surface under 30mph. I took it to the dealer who said that sounded normal. After going on a test drive with me he said that he did hear something on the passenger front clunking. He replaced the end link on that side and said that they normally wear out at around 15k. He checked the torque on all the other suspension bolts and said that was all he could do. It seems a little bit better, but it still sounds horrible at low speeds. I don't hear the knocking at highway speeds when I hit any bumps. What it can be? It feels like the struts are hoping or crashing over the bumps instead of absorbing them. My 10 year old Ford Explorer drove nicer than this. When I told the tech that my cheapo 2010 Nissan Versa doesn't make this noise when driven on the same roads he said that the Nissan was a much better car than the Hyundai. Did we make a horrible choice buying this thing?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 Truck Bucked And Cut Out When Accelerate

Well I have had a completely dependable truck until today. I was driving my truck on the way home, its an FX4 with only 33K miles on it that i have had since new. I went to accelerate to pass some cyclists (not a hard acceleration) and the vehicle cut off seemed like it kind of bucked a little as if it was shifting gears hard. I got a service light but what was weird was the gauges worked and the RPM still showed 1000. I did have power still though as the radio was on. The only thing that is currently wrong with the vehicle is the odometer gauge is out and needs to be replaced.

Anyway I shifted to neutral and restarted on the fly and than shifted back into drive and it drove the rest of the way home fine. After i got it to my neighborhood i ran it hard and it did not cut off again. I do not want this vehicle to cut out of me in town in the middle of traffic or while i am driving my 18 month old around and i get disabled with her in the truck. Slug of water maybe? I filled up on monday and still have around 3/4 of a tank of gas. Maybe short because of the gauge issue getting worse? I have the crazy door locks and beeps but nothing else has occurred. 05 F150 FX4 5.4 ....

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 Truck Shudders When Accelerate From A Stop

I own a 2000 f150, 7700 with 199,000 miles, 5.4 eng. In drive with foot on brake, it idles at 600 rps, fairly smooth. When I accelerate from a stop the engine shudders. Ten months ago I had the plugs replaced, last week I bought 8 new coils and I installed them, no change. I removed the down stream o2 sensor from the exhaust, it was as clean as blued gun metal. Can these 2 sensors be cleaned or tested? The service engine lite is not on. List of things to check?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Squeaking That Comes From Back Of Truck When Accelerate From A Dead Stop

When I accelerate from a dead stop I have this squeaking that comes from the back of the truck that goes away after a few seconds. Then when I get up to about 50mph I have this really annoying vibration. Its not a real heavy vibration but it is there. I am thinking it could be the universal joints, am I way off here or what?
