Alternative Medicine :: Symptoms Of Magnesium Deficiency

Aug 17, 2014

I've read a lot that mag is even more important than overloads of calcium, which can cause calcium deposits for just one issue....

Enough mag is needed for best calcium absorption. Then there is the Vit D deficiency......lots of deficiencies.

I don't know if any/many here are up on this mineral and how it could be related to fractures and all the hip issues many are challenged with.

I've been taking MORE mag than calcium for some years now, even though docs push calcium and don't even discuss mag....that's conventional medicine for you.

Alternative Medicine :: Aloe Vera Detox And Weight Loss

I have just completed a Detox and weight loss programme and it has had much better results than I thought were possible. The supplements were mainly Aloe Vera based, and what I have noticed is that the programme has not only made me eat healthier, but my blood sugars have gone down. Being a type 2 diabetic this has been great for me. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, and is it normal. Not that I am complaining, but trying to work out if its the products I have been using, or just a lucky time in life ?

Alternative Medicine :: Pain Management With Natural Herbs And Vitamins

This is my first time to post here, so please bare with me. I am 73, have severe back pain due to degenerative disc disease. I also have spondylolisthesis, and sciatica pain. I have seen a chiropractor for many years and have gotten steroid shots every 4 months for the past 2 years for the pain. None of this helps anymore. I have tried lots of herbal and alternative pain medications, none have helped. I got bronchitis last week and had to go to the Dr. She prescribed and antibiotic and Prednisone 10 Mg. for 6 days with a tapering off on the 6th day. I have not felt this good in a very long time. Very little pain. I felt like wonder woman. So I began searching for a natural steroid. I found that Dong Quai is noted for this. So I began it yesterday and am taking 4 pills per day at 250 mg./pill. I am also taking Curcumin2K and Dr. Al Sears Krill, 1 per day. How long do you think it will take before I know that this is working? I just cannot go back to the intense pain that I was in before the Prednisone.

Vitamin A Deficiency With Dry Mouth Symptoms?

I'm just wondering if anyone who has or has had a vitamin A deficiency has also had dry mouth as a symptom?

I know that vitamin A deficiency can cause dry eyes, and I'm reading from a few sources that a deficiency causes 'dryness of the mucosal membranes'. I've had dry mouth for quite a while now and I wanted to find out whether this particular deficiency may have contributed to it (if i have it in the first place).

Menopause :: Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms

Fatigue, weakness and pale skin may be the first signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency. You may notice cracked lips or a ringing in the ears, and you might experience a loss of appetite or an altered sense of taste that causes food to taste funny or odd. Alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation are common, and some people may become dizzy when standing up. Fever or abdominal pain may also be present.

Mental Effects

A vitamin B12 deficiency can cause an altered mental state in severe cases. Advanced stages of a severe vitamin B12 deficiency can cause a state of confusion. Mild to moderate depression is a common symptom, but severe depression can also be the result of a deficiency.

Other Symptoms

According to Harvard Medical Publications, other symptoms may include a tingling sensation in the hands or feet, a stinging or burning sensation on the tongue, a bright red tongue, significant weight loss, yellowing of the skin and a rapid heart rate. It can also cause you to feel off balance or disoriented, which may worsen in darkness. Some people may lose the ability to tell the colors yellow and blue apart. You may be unable to feel vibrations in your feet or legs. Anemia may develop ..

Pernicious Anaemia :: Copper Deficiency - Outstanding Neurological Symptoms

I was diagnosed with copper deficiency a few months ago and sent for further investigations prior to treatment. As all scans, eye tests and liver functions were fine and no signs of copper storage or damage anywhere else as might explain the deficiency in my blood, so they have now decided that I am not deficient after all and I have not been treated.

These were my results which are all pretty low within the normal ranges (in brackets):

Copper 9.3 umol/L (normal is 12.0 - 20.0)

Free Copper <1% (<25%)

Ceruloplasmin 0.20 g/L (0.20 - 0.40)

I also have Pernicious Anaemia (B12 deficiency) and the two conditions often appear together and have similar symptoms. I have very regular B12 injections so I am happy that is under control but as there are still outstanding neurological symptoms, I am wondering if this is due to the low copper levels?

Has anybody else had similar results, please?

Iron Deficiency Anaemia - Symptoms / Causes Of Anaemia

I have recently been diagnosed with fairly mild iron deficiency anaemia, which was picked up incidentally prior to an unrelated issue, and I was told it is a type that usually stems from bleeding. I was advised to speak to my GP about treating this, and on doing so he first asked me if I'd had any worrying symptoms, well I haven't noticed any obvious blood spurting from anywhere, or any blood in my bowel movements/vomit, so I said no. He then seemed to put it down to periods. I don't really have periods, and when I do they are pathetically light, so I don't think its that, but he didn't seem concerned. I am now on a 1 month course of ferrous sulphate and need to have more bloods after that to see if it's sorted it, but I am just worried about what caused it in the first place. I don't think my diet is particularly bad, so where on earth am I bleeding from!! My GP doesn't seem concerned, so I'm guessing I shouldn't be either, but just wondering what other people's experiences are of the causes of their anaemia?

Menopause :: Magnesium Supplements To Help Insomnia / Restlessness?

I've been reading a lot of ladies posts about insomnia and restlessness at bedtime.  I'm murder:  my legs seem to have a mind of their own, they're all over the place!

I think I probably sleep better some nights than I imagine. But I suppose as I can sometimes get up for a wee up to 5 times a night at certain times of the month, I deem 2 trips to the bathroom in the night a good kip!

Well someone suggested Magnesium Citrate to help with insomnia.  I did a little Google research and found it could be good for a myriad of my Peri symptoms, not least the restless legs and bouts of insomnia.

My husband and son are pretty fit and go to the gym 4 times a week. Both have had occasional bouts of cramp and now my ol' man has a problem just above his achilles tendon area (hoping its a torn muscle above).

Well, my point here is that it would appear that Magnesium may help them with their problems too!

I'm taking Menopace Original for B&D Vits.  Notice it has 100mg of Magnesium too.  I read that women's RDA for Magnesium is 350mg, so I'll supplement my Menopace dose with the tablets I got today.

Oh, and before I forget, it also talks about helping digestive transit, which is great seeing as most every month I change my name to Mrs Constipated.  At this rate I'll be swinging from the chandelier in no time!!

I'll report back in a week or so to give it time to work - or not. Be nice to hear from anyone else who's had good results with Magnesium.

Menopause :: Insomnia Due To Magnesium Supplement In Perimenopause

I have been using magnesium and calcium for a while now, they work well together.. However i switched to calcium and Vit D ( Natecal ) chewable ..

no longer having the magnesium ...

then i started effervescant magnesium ... i always take this by dropping in a glass of water, they range from lemon - orange flavour etc..

what I want to share is, as I have been an insomniac all through peri etc, I have  found that the effervescant form of magnesium, that you fizz and drink has totally relaxed me before sleep, i find myself in a lovely relaxed mood, and ready for slumber ...

Since this little difference, i have been researching magnesium and it also helps, tightened muscles, headaches, aches and pains..

worth a try ugh ? Drink it 30 mins before you go to bed ...

Magnesium has many benefits to good health, one of them being its action as an effective natural sleep aid.  James F. Balch, M.D., author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing, writes: “A lack of the nutrients magnesium and calcium will cause you to wake up after a few hours and not be able to return to sleep.”

Chronic insomnia that occurs with frequent night time awakenings is one of the main symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

On the other hand, a high magnesium diet has been found to be associated with deeper, less interrupted sleep. This was proven in a study done by James Penland at the Human Nutrition Research Center in North Dakota.

Mildred Seelig, M.D., the leading medical researcher on magnesium says: “Many people needlessly suffer pain – including fibromyalgia, migraines and muscle cramps – because they don’t get enough magnesium.”

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center web site, inadequate magnesium also appears to reduce serotonin levels in the brain.

One study found that magnesium was just as effective as an antidepressant drug in treating depression.  In addition, researchers at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute reported that for every 100 milligram increase in magnesium intake, the risk of developing type-2 diabetes decreased by 15 per cent.

Other studies have shown that people with migraine headaches have low concentrations of magnesium in their body.

i intend to post more magnesium finding as i find them

this I totally second this info above as I really noticed a difference after taking effervescent magnesium before bed , and my curiosity lead me to find out more ..

Epsom Salts (magnesium) Baths For A Good Night Sleep

I've been having magnesium baths for a while (epsom salts). I do get anxiety and not only do the baths calm me, it really helps with a good night sleep, aching muscles but the next morning helps with going to the loo too!

it is thought to be a natural detox too, help rid of toxins from your body (deodorant chemicals etc)

I buy a 25kg bag as its significantly cheaper but you can get smaller bags just to try.

i have 3 a week and add about 300-400g per bath and submerge as much of my body as i can for at least 20mins.

magnesium is a natural mineral which our body needs. You can make a drink with it apparently which is a VERY effective laxative (I haven't done this)

Depression :: Choline & Inositol, Theanine Tablets, Omega3 Fish Oil, 5-HTP, Magnesium, Taurine,

I'm just wondering could someone provide me with specific information on these products.  I was reading about them online and found that they help with the problems i suffer with by helping re- balance the brain chemistry. But i couldn't find if they are safe to take all together, which i plan on doing maybe not at once but throughout the day. Some people online said they done it and it works. But I'd rather get expert advice or get info from people that know their stuff.

I suffer from really low moods, low confidence, self esteem issues, depression, high levels of stress whereby i feel "wired" which results in my sense's i.e hearing, sight etc.. being really sensitive and acute( not a very nice feeling to experience) , my thought process also goes 90 like my brain wont switch off, when I'm down or stressed, also i have social and a general anxiety disorder.

some days I've no energy to do anything let alone get out of bed. recently for the past month I've only been sleeping 4 hours or less a day.

Even though i feel wrecked throughout the day and i try to take a nap. I cant go back to sleep untill 10 or 11 that night and then wake up at 4.

I plan on fixing this naturally instead of anti-depressants, sleeping tablets, etc... which I've tried before, which i don't like.

Therefore I plan on taking:

Omega 3 Fish Oil

5-HTP -50mg

Magnesium - 250mg, then 100mg later in the day to keep the tiredness, low energy away

Taurine - 500mg

Choline & Inositol - 500mg

Theanine - 200mg

(i.e. measurements are one tablet each)

Just wondering should i cut some out? only take half a tablet for some? what time should i take them? anyone try this combination before?

Psoriatic Arthritis - Alternative To Methotrexate?

My partner has been taking methotrexate for two years but due to the effect of it lowering his immune system he has suffered many infections and problems with wounds healing etc.  As a result he has had to take various antibiotics, almost continually, for the past year.  He has recently had a severe bout of mouth ulceration which, after research seems to have been caused by the excessive amounts of antibiotics creating a build up of the methotrexate.  Does anyone out there know of an effective, natural alternative to methotrexate

Alternative To Mirtazapine Which Helps Sleep?

I have an appointment with the doctor next week to discuss possibly changing to a different AD. I love mirtazapine in every way but for the weight gain. I need to lose a stone and am dieting. I have lost 2 lbs in a week, but if I can't sustain it, I need to change drugs. Last time I tried to come off mirtazapine I suffered terrible nausea and insomnia (I tend to sleep badly in any case but mirtazapine has really helped). Can anyone suggest a different AD that really helps with sleep but does not cause weight gain? I don't get on with SSRIs.
